more people in vr the better, more studios/devs making content for all vr platforms. so hope it does well

A win for any platform is a win for VR in general btw , fresnel lenses and LCD screen should equal better battery life 😊

While odds are low that I’ll personally buy one, I’m certainly happy to see this option inbound.
I’m also tickled that it has fresnels, since many trolls of PSVR2 angrily enjoyed demanding it’s lenses were “obsolete”.
They’re a trade-off, to be sure - but that’s true of literally EVERY current VR system.

I used to have quest 2 but got rid cos I didn't have pc anymore and wasn't a fan of the whole Facebook tie-in. I would be tempted more for the media options rather than the gaming side. Happy with psvr2 for that....maybe but by no means something I will be running out to buy

I think the Quest 3s is a smart move by Meta. The Quest 3 was too expensive for the sort of mainstream adoption the Quest 2 had, so creating a cheaper option without fragmenting the development environment makes a ton of sense. It'll be interesting to see if it'll be able to reach Quest 2 sales levels. I have some doubts.
Honestly I think what could (or should) be more impactful is Meta's recent option where you can get a Quest 3 for $0 down when you sign up for their Quest+ service on a contract. IMO that's the model VR should move toward, as it drops the initial financial barrier to zero. Cell phones have proven that this is an effective model for getting near ubiquitous adoption of expensive tech. I wish Sony would do that with PSVR 2.
As for whether this is good for VR, I have mixed feelings. Yes, having a cheaper option to bring more people into VR is a good thing, but Meta already has such a commanding market presence that I struggle to feel that them increasing their market share will be good for VR in the long run. VR desperately needs competition, and Meta has such a dominant lead that they might as well be the only game in town.

You probably knew I'd comment on this. So, I'm purely PSVR2, but want to get into PCVR. I've thought about saving for a PC and using my PSVR2 headset, but obviously, it's the cost... especially seeing as I'd want something powerful. I've eyed the Meta Quest 3, but what with having the PSVR2, I don't want to spend another £400 plus on another headset. So, my question is, Quest 3S or save for a PC. It would only be used to get into PCVR...Cheers man! 😊

No interest as I already have a fairly new Quest 3 that has been collecting dust since the PSVR2 adapter came out. I think it’s great for new VR players though. The more the merrier! 🎉

I feel like not having pancake lense is the biggest mistake. These lense make the headset easier to use for first time user.

That's true, but they also increase the cost substantially. And realistically, price is the biggest thing keeping people out of VR.

I'd rather see a good Quest 3 sale this holiday season maybe even some type of bundle for me to finally buy a Quest. I started with the Oculus Rift.I have the Index, and the Psvr2 now. But I really want to see what Valve does next. But regardless I want more Vr games who's standard is on the level of Half Life Alyx and the next Batman game. The 3s may sell well this holiday but i think more for casuals. The question is how soon will we hear the rumored specs of the Quest 4 and how big of a leap will it make❓️I think Nintendo would bring a bigger library of quality games to Vr if they ever made a headset. Imagine Mario Kart Vr, Mario World Vr and a deep rpg Zelda/Link Vr game 🤔🧐‼️ That's who I'd love to see jump into Vr. I have zero doubts that they could make a Quest 3s level headset with a catalog of Amazing games and experiences. An official Mario Kart in Vr vs all these clones.

I have a Quest 3 but a fresnel lens doesn't bother me as much as LCD does. That really ruins the experience for me.

I have psve2 and think it's top-notch, with the quest 3s I think I would like it as a stand-alone like this for the games you said about and AR content plus media and browser content. For the cost, it's a win-win in my book because I like all VR.

The problem we have is every time we invest in a new VR system a new one comes out. Yes modern technology evolves but when funds are limited backwards compatibility is getting more n more limited n so your old system shelf life becomes shorter so if we want mass market VR take up we need people to stay on board without stressing their software becomes obsolete. This is more apt for PSVR2 owners who don’t have backwards compatibility with older PSVR games.

    • @GreyMatterShades
      @GreyMatterShades 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Yeah the lack of backward compatibility on PSVR 2 was a kick in the teeth for me. I went from wanting to preorder PSVR 2 to waiting until about a month ago when it went on its first deep sale in my country. It wasn't the only factor, but it played a big part.
That said, the Sony headsets don't seem to be following that rapid release cadence you mentioned. PSVR 1 had great support for 4 years and was still getting games into its 7th year (though much fewer by then). While it's too early to judge PSVR 2's lifespan, I very much doubt Sony would release another headset for PS5 (unless it's a minor revision, or less likely, a PSVR 2 Pro with some upgrades). So PSVR 2 will likely be around for at least the duration of the PS5's lifespan.
It's also possible that if there is a PSVR 3, it could be backward compatible with PSVR 2, as some elements of VR hardware seem to have been standardized by now (controller layouts, inside-out tracking, etc.).

@@GreyMatterShades good points agreed. I like affordable VR for the masses n that includes the Q3 but you’re worried t jump in not knowing what Sony will do w PSVR2 support. PC support for the PSVR2 may hopefully increase sales n then more PSVR developers

What I would personal like is for Sony to release a hand held console that ran fast enough to run PSVR2 games, so then you'd have a portable PSVR2. If it had more the one USB-C port you could also use a battery pack to charge at the same time and put the pack in pocket, so battery power wouldnt be an issue.
