I was going to say like mother - like daughter... Your mum is a superstar - and you Anna - you have a talent for making chess so much fun and so approachable. You really do have a great Family! Thanks for your great efforts popularising. Analysis paralysis is a thing - before we called it the Hamlet Syndrome. The longer you sweat the position the harder it becomes sometimes to see the move. And of course - once you have moved - you see what you should have played immediately...
Regardless of the results, how alive you must feel when your prime was 40 years ago, you get invited to face the very best in a very very small tournament and you give ALL OF THEM a really hard time. So inspiring and moving.
The fact that Pia can play at a grandmaster level many years after she first earned the title is awesome. She doesn't necessarily focus her entire life playing like younger players as Pia has a life outside of chess. She has a home with a loving family, she's married (to a fellow GM, the only GM/GM married couple BTW), and of course, her lovely daughter Anna. Such a full life that also includes chess - what a blessing! Losses are certainly a disappointment, but she handles every win or loss with quiet grace. It's fun to watch how Annas parents play against each other - Pia is calm, quiet, and stealthy - Juan has a fiery personality, going head on into battle. Anna has a video of them playing against each other - just watch how they push the clock button!
Congratulations, Anna! Your commentary on your mother's games is fantastic. It's wonderful to see such a talented and passionate family sharing their love for chess with the world. Keep up the great work!

That was brutal at the end. GM Pia is playing so well against the players with higher ELO but the results are masked by (in my opinion) Armageddon All those draws she had only to lose because of another draw (with white pieces) in Armageddon
She played so well, it's so sad how it ended but she has gone toe to toe with the best players in the world and lost nothing, head up Pia you are an inspiration 💜💜
Always good to remember that this doesn't mean she played bad, she actually played incredibly. It just means that our female world champion is even stronger and she really attacked like a beast in this game.
It is heartwarming to see how Anna is beautifully defending her mama an showing great empathy and understanding. This is way more important than the rank in a chess tournament. Congratulations to both of you for having each other!
Ahh this made me cry a tear. I find it impressive how invested you can be in chess. The psychological aspect of this game was crazy. Very impressive, thank you for this video specifically! Very interesting. Warm greetings!
I didn’t like how disrespectful some people were when Anna's mom was in her last minutes. The chat section was flooded with comments like “MOVE!”, “Just take a piece and put it elsewhere”, “This is already over”, “gg”, and so… Some people are both completely lacking in empathy and trapped in a bubble of delusion. They can’t seem to grasp the tension of an OTB game and think if it was them in that situation they would fare better. Why don't you first beat Korchnoi and then tell Pia Cramling what to do?
To be honest it's not disrespectful. Anna was doing literally the same. Since 13:46 till end And well, they were right. Mistake of bad time management. Pia is a great player, but she can make these kinds of mistakes especially because of age. I don't see it as disrespectful.
It because they are not champion Pia Cramling has a champion Spirit, so competitive... She want to be the clear winner not flagg her opponent she wanted to find the winner move.
Pia reminds me of my favorite player Ivanchuk. He is inclined to get involved in a position. It is simply his love of the game. He finds a deep sequence but there is problem that needs solving. He will find the solution but his clock is in another universe and his elegant solution can only be explained later. But when the clock is also agreeable Chucky is a force majeure.
I soooo hope your mom can grab a win before the end of the tournament. Good luck Pia! She is such an amazing player, but like you said, just lost track of time at the end. Let's go!
It's interesting how Anna gets to wonder where Pia's time went. It's like watching herself without realising it. Now we know where Anna gets her time issues from, and judging from Pia's performance as a former GM with years of experience, they are unlikely to go away.
Pia, and Anna have the need to play the "best" move in every position in classical, because they feel the longer game demands it. Unfortunately, whenever they have lower confidence in a position, even when there is only one or two possible moves, they get stuck analysing, hoping a "best" move will appear. And it's hard to break out of that since not the "best" move feels almost like loosing, and you are negotiating with yourself that "there is still time, if i can just discover the move". Its only when there really isnt any time left that you can get over that awful feeling. But in every case you dont find the "best" move, yet spend all that time, the opponent has analyzed and knows what to play and quickly its your turn again, and you are still in the same state of confidence as the last move, and you get stuck again :( Playing more blitz will help with moving pieces quickly, and getting better at blitz. However, we know from Pia's commentary that she has a very quick, sharp mind, and finds complex lines with ease; so playing more blitz likely wont make a difference, because it's a psychological thing in longer games. The best thing to do is work on strategies or make up some hard rules of what to do in these situations. Take the decision to act away from the decision making part of the brain, and move it to the instinctual, routine driving part of the brain. It takes training and time, but its the only way to get out of your own head :)
White lost a tempo with move 15. Qf2, taking two moves to move the queen from e1 to f2. At that point, it was as though black had moved first, and black had the better position.
The fatal mistake is never where you're looking! She didn't make a single mistake on the board, but the danger wasn't on the board, at all. The bright side is she won't do that again.
I'm new to chess and this is so cool to watch. I which your mom the best and I'm currently bench watching your video. So much fun, thank you for the awesome content.

I don't really understand this time collapse, because she looked at the clock several times in this final phase. Regrattable. One could see Wenjun breathing a sigh of relief after the handshake...
I didn't find Nc5, I was thinking about Pawn G5 to block the white pawn. The thing I didn't like about Nc5, it's because it's a 'if' move. You play it as a trap, but if the opponent don't move what you want, you are still in bad position for the king... Like Lord Verstappen once said : ''if, if, if... if my mother had balls, I called her dad''
Just have fun with the remaining games. You've played an amazing tournament so far and some brilliant moves. Removing the added pressure of wanting a win, might be what you need to get one! 💜

And for that reason alone, without the obvious considerations for why else that might be the case, that should still be considered true. And without the benefit of that she's still doing pretty goddamn good.
