- Toutatis is the new-for-2023 Intamin launch coaster at Parc Asterix. This ride features an exciting swing launch sequence, three inversions, and nearly 2 dozen moments of airtime. And there's some great theming too! All of this makes it the best coaster in all of France.

I think you were lucky with the reliability. When I was there , it went down pretty much every hour or so, and not for small issues.
Was it running 3 trains for you? Wondering if that could be an agitator for downtime.
@@CanobieCoasterI've heard too that the third train is the agitator.
Pantheon had this same issue on the year opening
Considering Gotham City Escape also has issues, I can see why Cedar Fair still doesn't work with Intamin. They've improved, yes, but you'll never see a B&M have these issues
@moekitsune7651 nope b&m just ha e chains that snap and supports.that crack
Nice review. Some things I'd add:
(1) 03:49 Single-rider line: I've found this line moving annoyingly slowly, and you spend all the time in a very dark part of the station. When there are more than ~8 people in single-rider, I tend to prefer the regular line which moves along at a consistent speed and provides nice scenery.
(2) 09:55 When going up the spike, you get some nice positive Gs (my app measured 4.5 G).
(3) 13:30 The big wave turn towards the end gives great floater airtime on left side seats, but very little on the right side. This is another reason to prefer the regular line, where single riders often get sent first into a particular row (which translates into a left seat), whereas the single-rider line fills up a partially filled row (translating into a right seat).
That's fair when to use single rider. I think I rode on both the left and right side, but I was usually on the left.
I'm so glad to had toutatis in my home country, this became my favorite coaster, over Kondaa, FLY or Taron
I prefer Kondaa, but it's excellent.
@@CanobieCoaster I can perfectly understand that
The site lines for Toutatis and the new area are so great; Gotta love all the off ride footage that has come out of this new investment.
Love the area!
I went to Parc Asterix yesterday. We were very glad we bought the unlimited filomatix. We did Toutatis 10 times without having to wait. Back row, front row, sunset and nighttime. We did it all. Defenitly my favourite coaster after Ride to Happiness in Belgium.
Nice! Filotomatix saves a ton of time here.
The drop off the top hat felt pretty mild indeed, the first drop on the custom Eurofighter at my home park feels more powerful 🤣 but I think the rest of the coaster easily makes up for this flaw 😁
I agree the rest of the ride can make up for the top hat drop being a letdown.
I can definitely see the rides connection to Taron! The ride was definitely influenced by Taron’s station and rock work and I can’t complain because that’s what made me love Taron so much
I definitely see the influence in the first half.
Note that with the first launch you’re getting that airtime out of the station while the train is already being launched. My first ride was in the back row and it caught me by surprise.
It was a cool start.
These newer Intamin coasters have such cool layouts to watch. That first stall looks so interesting. I'm excited to get on Pantheon sometime. This one does seem to pack a lot more elements in though.
Both rides are excellent.
Thanks for the heads up on the glasses thing, ill make sure to bring contacts
You're welcome.
This looks like an epic coaster! This is everything that Pantheon at Busch Gardens Williamsburg should’ve been, from the theming to the longer layout! Great video and hopefully I can ride this one someday!
Thanks! It is a step up from Pantheon.
Watching this ride get built over the years + during the winter and how colorful it looks now is great! Surely it paid off giving your enthusiasm haha
It was worth the wait.
Toutatis is a really great ride, I rode it 2 Weeks ago and now it's in my Top 5. On my visit it was running with all 3 Trains the whole day long without any downtime and the Crew pushed roughly every 60 seconds a Train out off the Station. It was a really busy day at the Park and Toutatis had a 60-80min waiting Time but on the single rider line it was about 5-25min. But please be careful, they open and close the Single Rider line all the time. I think they don't want the Single rider line to be overcrowded.
That makes sense why they'd close single rider off. A lot of parks do that.
This coaster has the theming I wish pantheon had ( level wise) . This coaster looks amazing
They definitely spent a good amount of budget on theming.
Really good review as always. Didn't have the same experience with the single rider queue when I went, although they were running 3 trains not 2 so was probably a busier day.
I can see how it could take longer if more people used it.
When I was there it had a couple down times, less than 1hr each, and was running 3 trains all day. The line never got over 1hr and we waited a maximum of 30mins for it since we waited for the park to empty towards the end of the day (this was during summer time with Park closing at 10pm).
I hope you got to experience it late in the day or even better, at night, because it gets even more beautiful and it noticeably warms up a bunch at the end of a nice summer day.
I spent the last 1.5 hours marathoning it at night. It gave excellent night rides! Interesting you had downtime when it ran 3 trains. That seems to be the theme from comments. Maybe that's why they went with two.
Got to ride this beast 4 times, that spike in the back row is insane
The added height is great.
It's on par with all the new coasters
It's excellent.
Rode Toutatis last month during a 10 Europe park trip. It was my second favorite coaster of the trip behind only Ride to Happiness and right ahead of untamed. I think Toutatis is a better version of pantheon. I felt the air time was better, the layout was a little better overall and it has a better setting.
Glad you liked it!
I actually prefer the lower seating on Pantheon. My only nitpick with Velocicoaster is the slight rattle, which I think only comes from the elevated seating. Pantheon has not had that rattle at all in my experience.
I have been intrigued by Toutatis since it was announced in 2018 as well, so it was great to hear thoughts on it. I was happy that we got Pantheon in the U.S, given the clear similarities, but as much as I love it, I think I would like Toutatis more.
That is fair that the high seats may contribute to a rattle, but Batman is glass smooth right now.
I am french and i 've done a lot of time toutatis and i can say that we don't feel the 23 airtimes that was announced by the park, but yes i agree this is the best ride in france
It has a lot of out-of-seat moments. There are 10 before the top hat.
Canobie Coaster would say:
This is because Toutatis has an egregious trim brake on the descent. This is my biggest con with this coaster. Intamin marketed this as an anticipation stall. I believe it's meant to serve as a pseudo-holding brake, but it really hurts the drop in my opinion. Usually the drop off a top hat is one of my favorite elements on any launch coaster. They typically offer intense negative Gs. I want to point out two other top hats that got a lot of flack, but are way better than the one on Toutatis:
First, there's Pantheon. That top hat doesn't have any trims, but the train goes over it rather slowly. However, the drop is unhibited, so the train is yanked down it and provides powerful ejector airtime for those in back.
Second, there's Batman Gotham City Escape at Parque Warner Madrid. This top hat is notable for also having an anticipation stall. While you travel over the top hat even slower than that of Toutatis, the plunge...
Please see the subtitles from the video.
You got very lucky with the downtime. I was there for 2 days, on the fist day they said that it would be down for the whole day but it was eventually opened only to go down 30 minutes later. And on the second day it also had a lot of downtime throughout the day.
Was it on 3 trains? It ran perfect with 2 for me.
@@CanobieCoaster no it was on 1 train the first day and on 2 trains the second day.
I went there a few days after the coaster first opened, so they probably just had some issues at the start but have now fixed them.
‘ TATIIIIIIIIiiiiiiiIIIIIIIIIIIISSSSsssss!!!! 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Enjoy!
I don’t understand trims on drops. I’m sure there’s some engineering reasons, but I feel like they completely ruin the airtime and the drop
That’s like making a cake and then saying “oh wait hang on, let me add some dirt to this”. I’m so disappointed if there’s a trim on a drop. Because I think about the drop that could’ve been
I think it was to get the effect of a holding brake, but it kills the drop with a long train. It worked on Batman with a short train.
See in RCDB those top hats on:
Sky Rocket at Kennywood
Batman Gotham City Escape at Parque Warner Madrid
Toutatis at Parc Asterix
I put those because they have a trim brake, but how would you compare between the three? What do you think?
The one on Toutatis is more disruptive because of the long train, but it still gas a good jolt of airtime.
Are you updating the Oziris review? Or are your thoughts still the same now?
The experience I described is still accurate if you ride it in the cooler months with the faster wheels. Summer is still excellent, but it's a tad less powerful.
Lets gooo
Enjoy!
The ride can run the 3 trains but I’m pretty sure one of them might have an issue, or maybe running the 3 trains increases the chance of an error occuring. I’ve seen it run 3 when I was there, but one was removed in the early afternoon, while I was waiting actually
Maybe that's why it ran perfect for me since they only had 2 going.
Wildcats revenge has the same downtime issues with 3 trains, maybe with some of these coasters, three trains may be too much
I cant wait to ride it... i love taron at my Hp and this looks like it with a bit less theming but with a better layout, on monday i also got to ride taron with non of the Wintertraum lights so it was basicly pitch black and i cant wait to see what toutatis in the night will be like
Edit1: Also PHL having like 0 loose item policy on taron is just fucking ridicoulas
Phantasialand is very strict on loose articles.
@@CanobieCoaster Not as far as i experience for most besides like fly, ok the normal stuff yes, but my friend is allowed to wear his glasses on taron, black mamba and even talocan, also i accidently once hit my teacher with loose change from my pocket on taron... yeah
Sucks to hear about the no glasses policy as someone with a pretty strong prescription. Out of curiosity does Velocicoaster have the same issue?
Velocicoaster allows glasses.
TOUTATIS💙
Love the ride!
I honestly don’t get why people complain about that trim so much. I didn’t notice it at all on my rides on this coaster and was absolutely yeeted out of my seat on it. Also I find this coaster hard to marathon, because the strength and quantity of the airtime combined with how thin the lap bar is causes quite a lot of focused stress on my upper legs. My dad found it so bad he only rode it once.
The trim was very noticeable. Fortunately, the drop still did something in the back car and every other element was great.
I've now done this and Gotham City Escape and weirdly I also do prefer Gotham, but both are very good.
Batman is my number 2 and toutatis is number 4
I prefer Batman as well. I don't think that is crazy.
I’m not the biggest fan of intamin rides, but boy does this thing look amazing!
Why do you not like Intamin?
@@First-Drop-Studiosthe coasters I’ve been on from them have just been shakier than I was expecting, I’m very sensitive to steel coaster roughness so that combined with the insane ride experience of intamin coasters isn’t a great combo for me. But I do get why most like their rides
@@First-Drop-StudiosBecause they make buggy, unaccommodating, unreliable rides that get rough quick and are a pain to fix.
@@redwolfcorprevamped8266 Intamin hasn’t made an unreliable ride it 10+ years, so that’s a completely invalid complaint. Not many Intamins are rough. And even if some are, they have the best layouts in the coaster industry. They’re the company that basically made insane ejector airtime machines and they continue to make the best. Their newer models are also extremely accommodating.
It's an excellent ride. Smooth, fast, and wild.
Goudurix review one day closer 👀
Yes
Yeah I bet the trims on the top hat kill it; you'd think designers would've learned from Sky Rocket @ Kennywood. It does not thrill ppl like a true hold on a Dive coaster's first drop.
I don't mind a trimmed top hat. I worked on Batman and Sky Rocket. But it holds the train too long on Toutatis.
Tonnere 2 Zeus and Goudrix review?
Next 2 days.
Ok
How many Intamin coasters do you know with their overhead lap bar restraints? I think there are many in Europe which opened between 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. Examples:
Toutatis, Taiga, Taron, Kondaa, BGCE,Red Force
@@Sauci55on mahuka coming to Walibi Rhône Alps, Shred the Sewers at Dream Island, Hyperion Energylandia and DrageKongen Djurs Sommerland also feature them
(in europe anways)
Any of the launch coasters I mentioned in this video have the new restraints.
This is the international version of Pantheon.
Yes
Toutatis or BGCE? Which one you prefer?
Batman
It actually did run 3 trains most of the summer, but still the line was long because of downtime (and also the population of Parc Astérix is bad educated so shey do sh*t in the line and the station...). And even as a french waiting for it since 5 years, I sadly have to admit that Batman was better!
Pas ouf l’histoire de la « population » du parc… je vois où tu veux en venir mais tu abuses je trouve
Did it have more downtime with 3 trains? Maybe that's why they had 2 when I was there.
Do you prefer toutatis or taiga?
Taiga
Toutatis or Kondaa?
Definintely Goudrix!!
Kondaa
Better Than Pantheon
Yes
Ayy
Enjoy!
06:15 no glasses allowed, not even with a strap ... 🤬
Sadly
First comment
Nice!
@@CanobieCoasterthanks
I really don't dig parks that don't allow strapped glasses. I've worn glasses since I was 3, from getting up to falling asleep, and I'm nearsighted. They're basically a part of me and I don't feel myself when they're not on. I feel like I'm being punished for something I didn't do when I'm required to remove them. I wish idiots with phones and kids throwing gum and change didn't ruin loose articles for everyone.
I don't like the decision. Especially when they weirdly allow wrist Go Pros instead.
@@CanobieCoaster because that's advertising they're getting for free when some of those videos go up online.
Everybody knows Toutatis is better than Toutatis!
Ah yes, the floor here is made out of floor
Did I say that at some point in the review by mistake?
Canobie Coastsr would say:
So what would I rate Toutatis? I would give this coaster a 9.5 out of 10. This is an excellent coaster.
But why did you not give it a perfect score, a 10?
The trim on the top hat is the main reason.
egregious, what does that mean?
Glaring
