- Not all nostalgia is good nostalgia.
In this video, we take a journey back into one of the classiest times in history- the early 2000s. This is a long roast of the pop culture, fashion, hair and makeup of my least favorite time period in recent history + a makeover taking me back to my formative middle school years. And yes, my fingers are still orange.

As awful as the trends were, one good thing about the early 2000's was that young girls were allowed to look like young girls. They weren't growing up so fast or feeling pressured into looking like sexy 20 year old "Insta baddies" with perfect tans, skin, and winged liner like girls are nowadays.
CreepyCapricorn isn’t that the truth. Although I feel like some of the “thong” trend happened in kids wear with how low the pants were. Little girls could still be little girls.
So true!!
CreepyCapricorn butthurt
CreepyCapricorn definitely not me 😂😂
I gave a like for the username and pfp. You rock it, m8
I think fashion back then was SO less pressured to look good. It was just dumb and fun and you could use 10 random items out of your closet and throw them ontop of each other. I miss it. Also let's bring back butterfly clips and hair crumps.
Oml but was the fashion suuuuucked!!!!!
It was super duper fun to dress up in late 90's early 00's
Unfortunately my idea of fashionable is and always has been sneakers, high-waisted shorts, and some t-shirt I bought at a baseball game 13 years ago. Color and wildness is just not my thing
:)
Oh wow. I always gave Austin, TX credit for the slacker lifestyle, but these comments make me realize the whole country was shopping at Goodwill. I guess we were the output of 70s vintage nostalgia + 90s grunge + Captain Planet anti-consumerism. We rode our bikes and recycled and avoiding buying new... We were good kids!
The good thing about the 2000s trends is that us poor girls could pull them off just fine because it wasn’t so glam as now 😂😂 everything was so cheap
Right lol
Girl stop hitting me w facts
Welll... low rise jeans and crop top? That was impossible to pull off
Right? I think I spent like $25 per year on makeup. Nobody used makeup brushes or sponges, highlight and contour and brow products really weren't a thing.
@@katelynhanson lmao truee! Just some dream matte mouse (applied with your fingers, of course), a cheap ass frosty blue eyeshadow and a pencil eyeliner. That was the whole make up we owned.
When your from 2020 and butterfly clips and scrunchies are in now
Butterfly clips are back!?
Clark's TurtleSoup they were "in" 2019, not anymore
@@anemmaone idc we gotta make them come backkkln
Scrunchies were a thing in the latter half of 2019, I'm not sure now though
Maddy hannah no they’re in 2020
Those red carpet looks be looking like randomised Sims 3 characters
How about just Sims in general XD
YES
r/rareinsults
That's it
BHAHAHAHAH SO TRUE 😂🤣🤣
I got married in 1999 and I honestly looked JUST like this AT MY WEDDING!! Butterfly clips and fireworks hair and all.
Tanya McClinton aww💕
awww so cute 💗
Tanya McClinton 😦😂😂😂
goals tbh
You are a hero.
2000s fashion: what the actual fudge
2000s rock music: legendary
The early 2000's, when a bunch of pop rock bands were passing as punk, and Pink, the pop star, was actually the punkest of them all
They should meet Becky bondage
That's why I like 2000
Pink has made all right. She is still a star
Other end of the spectrum was platform boots, fishnets, skirts, TWO belts, lingerie for shirts, Movie themed sweatshirt (my poison was The Crow) half zipped for some modesty and as many chains, spikes or pyramids you could wear on your clothes, jewelry, and shoes.
HELL YES
Yep!
Yas that speaks to me on an emotional level and the paler the better like 3 shades too light of foundation and of course not blended down the neck
This was always what I wanted to be when I was cool lol. I was just the graphic tee and jeans sort of kid though.
And Amy Brown fairies and happy Bunny stickers EVERYWHERE
I remember wearing bronzer all over my whole face, when I'm actually as white as a piece of paper... with foundation on my lips as my lipstick... and blue eyeshadow. A LOOK.
The foundation lips! When even nude was not nude enough.
I see pics of me from that time and i'm like OHHH HONEY NOOOOO. hahahah
“Rock music in early 2000s was amazing” *cries in Evanescence*
Deftones, baby!
-cries in my chemical romance-
"Don't cry to me,
if you loved me
You would be here with me
You want me,
come find me
Make up your mind"
Cries in mcr
Cries in FOB
It seems like Ashley Tisdale always walked onto red carpets looking like she had 20 seconds to construct an outfit at Limited Too
😂😂😂 Oh, Limited Too! I almost forgot about that iconic shop.
@@rosebud4467 Her outfits reminded me! 😂
I genuinely forgot how much we all look like meth heads back then lol
Wow.. I never realized that is exactly how every methhead looks. It the eyebrows.
Yet there are instagram influencers who looked like this and have many fallowers who arnt meth heads at all
OmG 😂😂😂
For real.
@Amun
That was not the point airhead
No one represented the 2000’s more than Ashley Tisdale though 😂
Kaitlin Kal Lee no, but Hillary Duff came close. 😂
ryismazin agreed 😆😆😆👏🏼
Kaitlin Kal Lee lol
Paris Hilton!?
das gefürchtetetetetetetetetetetete paris hilton and nicole richie😂
The fact that Paris Hilton’s sneakers were actually heels shakes my spirit
Now I see how she's wearing them at least
i saw the butterfly clips and immediately remembered stepping on them, and then being sad cause they would brake.
You forgot the frosted lipgloss. The stickier, the better.
I could feel my hair get caught in this post
But Ashley Tisdale was playing us all because all of those layers were like Dior and Dolce and Gabana and cost thousands of dollars 😂
After the makeover, she reminds me of a Charlie’s Angels Cameron Diaz....
She looks a lot like her when she smiles!
Mykie: I want a flip phone that is a smart phone!
Samsung: We got you boo.
The mention of stepping on butterfly clips has triggered me beyond belief. My feet literally hurt.
Alice the Mad Rabbit SAME
I hate them more than legos
I still have them-
The worst pain ever 😭😭😭
Alice the Mad Rabbit I wouldn't know😭😭😭😭my hair was too thick for them and I'm still salty about it lol
I was growing up during all of this and I never realized how weird everything was until now. Wow.
You should do the male version of the early 2000s on Anthony now 😂😂😂 loved this video haha
anthony was the male version of that until like 4 years ago. LMAO
Frost. those. tips.
yeesssss!
watching this in 2023 with half of these trends coming back is so funny😭
I think you are missing one thing: body glitter. You need about half a bottle of spray glitter.
GCAT01 Living or the roll on kind!
Liana Speer OH MY GOD THE ROLL ON GLITTER
totallynotanalias I remember getting the roll on glitters in my play makeup sets. I still have a tube of the stuff somewhere, they were great.
GCAT01 Living I still have a bottle of glitter body spray from Justice from maybe 2008-2009, if only because it smells like blueberry.
not gonna lie i’m still into the body glitter lmao 🦄🧚🏻♀️🧜🏻♀️
She went from beautiful woman to Jersey Shore season 1
AHAHHAAHAHAH true
I LOVE THIS COMMENT SO MUCH
Accurate 🤣
Kevin Murphy LOLOL
Ahahahahahahaha yeeeesss
i kinda like early 2000's because everyone looked like trash. i'd much rather be following trends that make you look stupid than trying so hard to be perfect.
I personally just stay as an alt kid so idm people of any look, but for some reason, wasn't looking "trashy" and "cheap" the actual trend in the 00's? it's kinda a paradox since we "don't need to follow trends" when that IS the trend
I'm so glad I was punk/goth during that time, so I did literally none of this.
I did the complete opposite of you & I'm highly embarassed. 😂
same, this my emo phase lol
I hear you. Remember Emily Strange?
Early 2000's goth was the shit. Needle brows, color accents, romantic style, thousands of girls calling themselves "alternative models" when all they did was take pictures of themselves and post them on crappy blogs. lol
I'm so glad i was a literal baby that time
The crimped hair remimds me of unboiled ramon noodles
It's like the early 2000's wanted to be the 80's, but failed
The 80 won.
If you think 80's fashion was "it" then you're not old enough to have lived through them...
Miserably.
You wish 2000s rock was back, eh?
Well, you wish has come true.
*cue My Chemical Romance's reunion tweet*
*cue emo screaming*
Yea
m e
Mcr is not early 2000s
Estefania Boujon MCR started in 2001 and they have a lot of Albums/EPs that we’re released anywhere from 2002-2005. Their biggest album was released 2006, so like, barely into the later 2000s.
*hits the G note on the piano*
When I was little and stupid I used a butterfly clip to pull out my tooth. I have no idea why.
This comment is gold. Underrated!
I don't know what you mean, I LIVE for the early 2000's. It reeks of chaotic "idgaf" energy.
SAME OMG
I will still wear a velour juicy tracksuit and not apologize
I have 2 of them 😂
I'm a 2007 baby and I instantly remembered the clips, silly bands, my MOM'S hair crimper, and tank tops galore in my tiny closet
lmao
We have a styling project in school, we're supposed style people from 1920 to 2020. I'm going to style 00s, I'm here for inspiration..
My mom used to put rainbow feathers and striped hair extensions in my hair. I have multiple school photos of me looking like a punk rock singer from the 70’s
Julii i That was me in 5th grade....and that was in like 2011 lmao I am ashamed
Omg M E T O O
my mom was a hippie and still is so i cant relate
Same though
Julii i i would wear those to
School and tell everyone it was my real hair
here's the thing tho, i have such love for the early 2000s because of how messy it was. there was so much experimentation, there were all sorts of bizarre trends, and literally everyone was doing it! nowadays, there's this scary obsession with perfection and polish, so whenever someone is caught looking less than both of those things they get dragged to hell and back.
i don't know mykie! i can see why you hate it lmao but maybe we need a little early millennium back in our lives... just to keep us humble, y'know?
This comment is a mood
most of there expirementing was floppy but I don't blame them
Yesssss!!! I was a preteen in the early 2000's and it was a magical time lmao 🤩😍 we was too cool!
I think it's cool how they expiremented.... but the way they did was no
Renegade Queen. That is the truth the early 2000s sounded like a good time. Kids were able to walk the streets alone without getting kidnapped or killed.
They look like a fully randomised sims
I actually really really love the early 2000's and the whole y2k aesthetic. It was messy and kinda ugly and that was okay. it was literally just girls enjoying themselves and I miss it so much >:((
I agree. Let women enjoy things
butterfly clips were more painful than legos in my opinion noPE
Omg yea when they broke in your hair you were done for 😅😂
Nah what really hurt was getting smacked in the head with the bobble hair elastics
Lyssa Atkinson do you mean the ones with the stupid plastic balls on? Because I could never figure out how to put those in without hitting myself in the knuckles.
Kristina and Gemma exactly what I mean. Those things are evil
i've stepped on butterfly clips more than once in my life... pain's definitely worse than a lego
Nailed it, you look like every girl and myself during high school. Painful. Accurate.
Me looking back on this video this was 7 years ago and I LOVEEEEE how the early 2000’s looked AHH I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT SOOOO MUCH 💖💖💖
😂😂 I’m so glad I was the awkward kid in school going through my emo phase when this was considered “fashion”
You forgot the whole trend of concealing the lips and then putting gloss on top 😂
Oh wow...I'd completely forgotten about that!
The early 2000’s was like a generation having a midlife crisis. It’s just confusing chaos
Just an innocent Pomegranate well it sorta was 😂 Everyone thought the world would end in 2000 so everyone was like screw it
I, i just saw your comment on the buzzfeed unsolved video, are you everwhere what the cu k
That’s so true
This comment wins the internet for the day for me lol
It's still happening.
Now add roll on body glitter, slap bracelets, five different kinds of choker necklaces at once, a high frost lip gloss that is probably flavored. I vote for a part two! Who's with me?!
I was -4 years old in year 2000 but i would still never call 2000s the same as 90s. They are SO different
I was born 2001, but I remember having roll on body glitter ... was that a thing?
Anna Rose YES
I had my barbie roll on glitter and everything 😂I think I still have it somewhere
Yesssss!!!!!!!!!!!!! I remember that!!!!
Omg the roll on glitter!!! Yesss!!
I was born in 2003 and I remember all of this and some of the 90s.... I had three older sisters who wanted me to have good memories
I'm 29 and i remember all of this lol. Remember different colors of camo everything? Haha.
You should do an avril lavigne or pop punk makeover from that time too! Lol
GOD YES do a 2008-2014 emo scene tutorial
Omg yes !!!. I am pretty sure some of my friends did the whole camo thing then a pair of cat boots or Timberland boots. Also those weird like parachute pants. They were like cargo pants but had like bits of ribbons/fabric coming off them 😂😂😂. I can't be the only one that remembers these. But yeah totally second a emo/scene look. But would that not be too much like the MySpace scene look that's been done 🤔.
blameitonablackstar get ready because parachute colorful camo pants are making a huge comeback
stephmenzies10 I remember all of that!
Lici Garcia Haha I'm ready lol
Women still wear lingerie as shirts to this very day. If anything, they're more revealing than before lmaooo.
Lol. I was thinking the same thing. Lacy bralettes as outerwear. Apparently the lessons from the 2000s didn’t sink in.
Here’s some education for y’all: complete denim outfits are called Canadian tuxedos.
You’re welcome.
As a Canadian, no. It’s a plaid thermal jacket and blue denim jeans.
SYNNER LOVISA yeah. It’s so comfortable.
@@GreenAndGoth google it, its just a name they gave to double denim, it doesnt mean all canadians wear it...
I remember that being called a Texas tuxedo.
at least in the early 2000s disney and nickelodeon were still good
only thing missing was the clear lip gloss that looked like you bit into an extremely greasy hamburger.
ok but thats a thing now so
gemlikestardust but that’s really trendy again (look op the make up brand ‘glossier’) I think it can look nice, most of the time even better than matte lipstick because it can look really crusty in my opinion.
And Smuckers!
You mean lip smackers? Smuckers is a jam.
ColbertSmith Yep because I'm an idiot who didn't check auto correct. Thank you for the correction
Scene kid fashion trends in the early 2000's were wild
Coming back in 2023 and watching this where half the trends are back like skirts over jeans and thin brows is amazing. Also the fact that iPhone and Samsung have brought out flip phones 🤣
My mouth literally feel open in shock while watching you break down those pictures 😂😂😂😂😂
Pink goes to the hairdresser
Hairdresser: so what style do you want?
Pink: do you know those women who want to talk to the manager but they were impregnated by an alien?
Hairdresser: say no more
Early 2000s kid ! 🤍🕊
The one thing I remember the most is going to the blockbuster box right by the grocery store and buy her favorite movies and we would go home and watch them lol and , all star is life. And, bumping into a bunch of kids and almost getting a concussion sliding down the blown up slides that went straight down. But that’s not all.... stepping on butterfly clips I did a lot when I was probably 4 because yes, obviously they look cute on toddlers too. And let’s be real we all cried at least once because we didn’t move the line at Christmas time because you were distracted and then some kid yells at you and then a bunch of other people join in and you ended up balling your eyes out. And, that one time someone tried to steal your best friend..? Y’all remember that... but you can never take back that hello kitty obsession.... or the fact that you blew on your nails too hard and all the nail polish on one finger literally blew off. Oh.... we won’t even go into the lady Gaga, Cary Rae Jepson, or Katy Perry obsession. Call me crazy but. I miss that. 🥺
I remember when I used to hang jacket around my waist for no reason while wearing 3/4 jeans and raccoon eyeliner back in the days lol
Let's be honest the early 2000s didn't end until 2013
Agreed
I have been thinking this the whole time!
What??????? More like around 2008.
DeMarion 1999 I’d say 2006/2007
@@y2kcell 2004 at the latest.
Things I remember (I was in elementary school)
desperately wanting to play with Bratz dolls
Avatar The Last Airbender.
TH-cam being 10000% different.
The Sims games.
The suit life of Zack and Cody
Cheeta girls
Degrassi
Disney, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network game websites.
Kim possible.
Oddly, I don't remember fashion trends.
Match Ashes don’t forget all the glitter lipgloss and chapstick and the hoop earrings too lol
Honestly same
degrassi was the shit
I was Kim possible for Halloween last year, Call me beep me if you wanna reach me
Same I never really paid attention to fashion trends
I am rewatching this in 2019 and Razor brought back the flip phone but with a full screen like an iPhone so mykie predicted the future
Mykie does this “orange” tan everyday now 😭😭😭😭
Her eyebrows look BOMB in this vid!!
Before she erased them
i honestly never realized how weird the early 2000's were because thats when i grew up and i never really dressed like that, it was just the "older people" that did and i also wasnt very in touch with that kind of fashion cause no one close to me was part of that generation but when i see this i do immeadiately think "wow thats my childhood"
Same I was born in 2003 and I just kinda remember the end of this era
“My hair looks like wavy fries!”. Ahahaha! Too funny! I left that crimped hair look in the 1980’s. I should of kept my hair crimpers, because for souvenir sake, plus my family gave me one of the crimpers as an 8th grade graduation present 32 years ago. 😪. Plus in case there are ‘80’s themed parties & events I’m invited to. I had my cousin do that hairstyle of yours on me, sans the crimping of my hair. I had another cousin do half corn rows on me on a camping trip. Great times! 👍
Well here we are 2023 and aaaaall of this back like crazyyy
As a baby from 1995, who only got a TASTE of the 90's and had to settle for the 2000's... this is too accurate and I'm having terrible fashion flashbacks 😂
ShamSharpShark I was 15 in 95'.... sorry you only got a TASTE of the 90s... The 2000s were the beginning of the end!!!
Same....
95' baby as well! At least we had HSM 😂
95 here as well!!!
I was 97', and for some reason, my entire childhood was very 90's
that denim crop top was actually pretty cute tbh
Im just for the middle of the video and i already think that i love you!!! you are SO MUCH FUN
My favourite was the mid-2000s alternative fashion
Ashley Tisdale has had the biggest fashion glow up compared to what she started with
THE HAIR IS SO ACCURATE OOOOMGGGGG
As an MUAH and student of Kevin Arcoins from the 90's I promise these looks started out beautifully but got lost in translation at the hands of amateurs at home because we didn't have TH-cam tutorials at that time! I'd love to see someone post a "we recreated the look from the original makeup artist " lol
Just like Walmart cheapens and mass markets a wearable version from the runway so is cosmetic application 😆💋
I can't stop looking at your eye makeup (the good one). Flawless. This was fun.
So Ashley Tisdale has a TH-cam channel now...and it’d be kinda everything if y’all did a collab together😂😍😜
sEnD hELp YES
Why have Mykie and Safiya never collabed 🤔❤️
Mykie:How were Vajj’s not just hanging out everywhere?
Me: *I mean they were*
I totally remember having a million of those lil butterfly clips
Imagine if youtube was like it is now in the early 2000 and all youtube makeup tutorials were like this. James Charles would not need to worry about flash back Mary
LB_O.taku HEY SISTERS!
And Jeffree could bring back his thin pink eyebrows
LOLOLOL - I love it! this is my favorite comment here!
In ten years : EVERYONE makes fun of the Instagram Baddie look.
(I do now so.)
Loved the twisty and butterfly clips!
I love how you still look amazing with this!!!
The layers though. Whyyy did we have to wear so many damn layers?
Amanda right ? I wore SO many layers ! To the point where I still have issues only wearing one shirt
It's winter here in Australia and i'm wearing them 90s layers. Sue me. haha :)
Amanda to give the illusion of modesty...while the flossy underwear was rising above the low rise jeans. 😂
The layer trend was great for the Danish weather 😄 it changes constantly
Amanda onions have layerss
I was born in 1996, so my mother dressed me up quite a lot in the late 90s and early 2000s. There are a few pictures of me of which I'm like: "Mom, how could you dress me up like that?!"
I was born in 1996 too and honestly same
I feel old 😟 I was old enough to actively attempt some of these trends lol. That's all I'll say.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
I'm going thru a really hard personal time right now but watching this made me smile, It reminded me of how care free and wild I used to be in the the mid 2000's. Thanks for this much needed reminder!
You look like you could be in a 2000s Disney movie
this is the perfect representation of my tacky ass early 2000s childhood. it’s hideous, i love it.
tess marie same!
SAME the 2000s were undefeated!
Yes omg😂. Thank goodness I was too young for makeup for most of it. I did have a bit of a mullet at certain points of my childhood because crazy Celtic curls on an eight year old is super difficult.
Bringing back so many memories!! Yes!! 90s baby here! Love this Mykie
I love your personality! You're hilarious and entertaining!
Why does she kinda look like Cameron Diaz tho...
Ashley Menendez she does!!!!
That was my first though as well lol
i was trying to think of who she looked like thank you
I’m getting Leslie Knope vibes
Kaylee Haase
Hahaha I can see that
My fashion icon in those days was Avril Lavine lol
I'd wear multiple shades of green shirts that is layer with other green shirts, I'd wear a red or purple flannel looking tie, and I wore like really baggy coloured jeans... hell yeah lol.
FaithKomTrikru love Avril 😍
*Oof.*
FaithKomTrikru same!!!
OMG from start to finish I was just rolling 😂😂😂😂 thanks hun for the memories 😃😃😃😃 is go back to the early 2000's for sure! Love the look hun 😚😚😍😍
If you know either of these things:
a) butterfly clips
b) Limited 2
... I know you were a young girl in the early 2000s
I was a young girl in the early 00's but I personally don't know what limited too was until i looked it up, I think people weren't into that where I live
@@worstusernameintheworld9871 Totally could've been regional. I read they had 600 nationwide stores in their prime in the early 00s. I was in the PNW and I remember it being super common, at least in my area.
My grad hair was corn rows with butterfly clips to ringlet curls. IM THIRTY ONE I CANT STOP COMMENTING IM HAVING FLASHBACKS
Also with 500 bracelets up each arm
_Glitter spray? Haven't heard that name in years._
never go into a halloween store? it has its own section right next to the spray dye lol
I use it sometimes
This is 100% accurate!!
I love it!!
Absolutely love you...fantastic video
