Great topic! I'm a middle-aged Haitian American man from Flatbush, Brooklyn, and I've always had a fascination with organized crime, as a result, I'm a Mob historian of over forty years in counting.
I'm also a serious collector of fine music and therefore a historian of jazz music as well.
The Mob and jazz music and culture have always been in bed together. They went together like hand in glove. What I don't hear about is how these fly Black jazz musicians influenced the Italian, Jewish, and Irish gangsters in terms of style and swagger! The same way that hip-hop does today.
I don't have a problem with segregation during this time because history has proven that Black communities were much more prosperous during these times. And I certainly wouldn't want to be around evil and hateful people!
The biggest problem that I had during this time is how these brilliant Black American musicians were taken advantage of in terms of their monies and publishing! The record industry today owes these families reparations.
I highly recommend an outstanding book on jazz music and the Mob called Dangerous Rhythms by T.J. English. It's both highly informative and entertaining. A classic in the field.

We should've kept our talent and music to ourselves. Even if we were performing it in a juke joint in the woods somewhere, like in "The Color Purple". If they wanna hear us, let them come to where we are and pay us. That's how we would've built wealth to have our own hotels and music companies. We need to stop going to them. They don't treat us right or pay us right. Even to this day. They get ALL the money while we do all the work.

Very, very well researched video. You touched on a lot of stuff that most people still don’t know about……even all these decades onward. Everything you said was 100% on point. There was literally not one black artist from the 40’s up until the mid 80’s who was not under the control of the mob. Even Barry Gordy was in deep with the mob…..they fronted the money for him to start Motown, got his artists on the radio and booked his acts in the best venues. In those days, you could not be in the music business without the mob having their say so. Ironically, the business got worse after the mob was pushed out. Once the corporate Illuminati took over the industry, it became what it is now……talentless, boring and demonic.

Elvis Presley idolized Jackie Wilson ( from what I've read)

Elvis loved Jackie , they had a close friendship . But it was mutual. Jackie told a reporter , I took as much from Elvis as he did from me. Even Sam Cooke knew about their friendship as he and Jackie toured together. Elvis paid Jackie’s medical bills in 1975. Etta James who had met Elvis as an upstart at 19 and really liked him. She was so happy Elvis paid those bills. Jackie on the other hand was asked by a DJ what records he’d play if he was a DJ . Jackie replied, “ Elvis records , all day long “ !

I’m born and raised in Las Vegas. But yes, back in those days if you were black, you had to stay off Jackson Street in a bungalow hotel,,well motel cove hotel on DST. or you would have to stay on Bonanza Street which is where we have the Moulin Rouge.

Lauren Bacall who was Humphrey Bogart´s wife at the time was the one credited with the name Rat Pack. The story goes that Lauren had a guest over to the house and she asked where was Humphrey to which she replied somewhere with his Rat Pack of friends. So they never called themselves that but it was the name that Frank and his crew became known by because they carried on in the same manner, Drinking, Gambling, Smoking Cigars etc.
