I was wondering who was going to say this. This is what skyen wants for urgot, is for someone in riot to take the meme, play it straight, and make it damn good while doing so.
Same thing happened in Heroes of the Storm: people were making "Azmodunk" jokes so much, Blizzard gave Azmodan a basketball skin.

This skin was basically given life by the community. As much as I love God-King, there's no competing with a legendary skin made for the fans BY the fans. If only Baker Pantheon was given this much love and production value

I'm a Pantheon main, and Baker was my first skin. I also play Leona sometimes, so I have the barbecue skin for her. I think Baker is great, but I wouldn't say no to a skin with a new voiceover and such. In all fairness, Pantheon doesn't need any new skins and there are plenty of other champs that deserve new ones first.
And having a funny piece of scenery for a weapon helps (glares angrily at the heavy metal skins that don't have musical instrument weapons)
It's completely stupid too because they already use their weapons as if they were instruments in their base dance animations. Mordekaiser even turns his mace into a guitar.

@@draconous9029yes to both; Yorick is a very direct reference to Slash and as such is a bass player and does wield an electric bass/shovel thing whilst Karthus’ staff turns into a stand mic that gives feedback when he screams into it.
Fun fact:
Darius is tall and strong enough to play forward in the NBA.
He's in the ballpark of 6'5-6'6 265, and that axe is over 100 pounds and he has UPS with it.
For reference: NBA's greatest dunker of all time, forward Vince Carter, was 6'6 220 during his playing days (1998-2020) (he's a future Hall of Famer too)

The only thing I like more about God king Darius is how his basic attacks, animations and so on just feel smoother. Like the auto attack is a bit delayed, which makes it less likely to cancel basic attacks. It just feels smoother to play.

@NaGa5h I know the feeling. Dark Star Orianna is like that compared to most of her other skins and it can really make a difference (though so can taking the attack speed shard 😅)
This is when a meme is so good it just adds to the character. Plus don’t forget the theme they made for the login screen. I still have it on my workout playlist because it’s just that good

But seriously, this goes without saying but this is a masterclass for making a legendary. The idea that Darius is always dribbling the ball is one thing, but to see Riot actually go all in on the concept of “Darius Dunking on Opponents” and turning that into a skin is just brilliance. Wouldn’t be shocked at all if 5-10 years from now we find ourselves looking back and seeing this not only as one of his best skins still, but one of the standouts of all time.

I love when i look at a skin so perfectly made that i can't remember what the original character ever was. Like i look at this and i can't see darius the league of legends character i can only see darius the dude that dunks
I never listened to an actual Darius voiceline, only the ones from this skin, and i cannot imagine him saying anything else

It's not only the design itself that does it for me, it's also the voicelines and their amazing delivery. For people who don't know, I highly recommend reading through, or even, better listening to all his first encounter taunts on his wiki page. And yes, I mean first encounter taunts and not voicelines, because he's got unique roasts for 31 different champs, which actually was exactly a quarter of the whole league roster when the skin got released

THANK YOU!!! Ever since purchasing, I use this skin pretty much exclusively. It just feels so goddamn cool and right in lime with Darius' character. I am still playing in search for that elusive "Penta-Dunk!" Voiceline but hey, I'll look stylish along the way. Also just LOVE the splash art, dance, and taunts.
Of all the skinlines I wish continued, it's this one (Ivern is not enough!) I'd love a bunch of epic skins that have new voicelines along the lines of Primetime Draven.. so many champs work for it

I love that this skin has multiple animations for dunks with items even being referenced it feels like a lot more care went into this skin than some modern legendary skins. I also play Venom by Eminem while wearing this skin cause of the venom dunking on Spider-Man meme
It’s also crazy because they went for a very specific archetype of basketball player and it wouldn’t work any other way. Like he comes off as a very aggressive and angry power forward. The type of player that’s willing to hurt opponents if it means getting the play. And that’s Darius

God King has a puppy so I like it more, but Dunkmaster is just chefs kiss. They went way harder than they had any need to, and it is glorious.

What i like the most is that his passive at 5 stack turns into a hoop, which darius can then dunk using his ultimate.
I still think the best thing about this skin is that someone at riot really loves the idea of "what if darius dunks on ppl with his ult instead?" And thus the skin was born

Much like Pool Party Fiora, it feels like how would Darius be if he wasn't his base concept, and it works really, really nice.
Darius' voiceover in this skin is PEAK. He is just how I imagine not only Darius himself, but every Darius player is (including myself): strong, cocky about it, a bully in lane, a terror in teamfights that thrives on dunking on people, while being a jerk about it.
It's insane how much it fits his personality.

i think what makes it interesting to me, is that darius isnt a super cocky dude. He isnt mocking but it doesnt take much tweaking to his character to make him into a bragging star
I also love that the emorage mark become a basket thats screams "dunk me", the dunk being the ult.
Dunkmaster Darius also had a animation done by Zureal, the pizza tower guy, doing a psa. It was groundbreaking at the time.

Honestly, as much as I prefer unique, original skins over big skin lines, I wish we had more dunkmaster skins. Volibear could get one (considering his ult)!
As a few of the sports skins are on your 'best skins' list (they are on mine as well btw), isn't it super weird that Malphite hasn't gotten a American football skin yet? I mean he throws something (Q), he has the outline perfect for football gear and his ult is to freaking ram the other team. It is perfect!

I mean yeah, I enjoy his god-king skin more. But I do really appreciate this skin as a close second for how awesome and cool it is, even if it isn’t meant to be a serious skin.

Dude, im not into lol or any tower defense games but i just got to appreciate skins per character, they somehow pulled this joke skin as an epic piece, probably my space jam side is being bias.
unfortunately for us we will probably not see community inspired skins like this in a while. nothing like this will probably ever be made again, one offs with so much polish it carries the skin all on its own. there is a reason why dunkmaster ivern just didnt hit.

It's by far my favorite Darius skin. In addition to all you mentioned the sound effects are great too. I love when you get 5 stacks, a buzzer goes off and Darius says "It's game time." Really hypes you up to dunk some fools.

i really want dunkmaster illaoi and pyke i have no clue why they made an ivern one. isnt the whole point of the skinline that some champions have animations that make them look like their dunking a ball, i feel like they would be perfect fits

Imo this skin with Janna Forecast and Veigar Final Boss started the basis of what is a really good legendary skin. All the way back in 2014
It's one of those skinlines where you can never expand on for other champions. They tried it with Ivern and it stank so bad.

A bit about that personality
He's not ALL that nowadays. Yes he still thinks Noxus is the best but at the same time he's gonna be like, "if you wish to be strong, join me." so he's probably a very confident (and still somewhat cocky) basketball star in this skin but he's also probably gonna tell you to join his team.
It took me about 5 years waiting for this one to drop from free chests and rerolls.
