Thank you for making these videos! Sometimes shopping for motherboards can be confusing for me and so going through the differences in I/Os really helps
Considering that the RL refresh are supposed to represent the end of the 1700 socket I'm surprised that Gigabyte felt there was a need to launch these, over what they had already.
These Line-up series of motherboard could have not come at better time!! Appreciate the effort put into these videos. Would love to see line-ups of GPU's as well If possible
I love your videos... I unfortunately did the mistake of underestimating the importance of a high quality motherboard - I went with the Z790 UD and an i9 14900K - the slightest overclock is leading to freezes and BSOD.... I might upgrade in the future to the Master X I believe (I don't see a reason to go next gen z890 yet)
built-in properly supported 10Gbe nic can be worth 100€ extra, so Master X is definitely the only "futureproof" board from the lineup, ASUS will have to push down prices of Z790 ProArt/Creator boards to remain competitive, I wonder what happened with Gigabyte's AERO D and AERO G lineups?
Thank you for posting this excellent review of Gigabyte's Z790 motherboards. I agree with your conclusions. Pricing does seem unreasonably inflated. On the Asus motherboard side, I built a system with the "ProArt Z790 Creator Wifi" earlier this year and it is a very solid performer. I used a 13th generation processor and I do not feel a need to update to the 14th generation. This is a very high quality review. Thanks again for all your work to provide this.
😭I was REALLY hoping someone would look into the included DAC and Audio aspects of the EXTREME version but the only reviewer who even mentioned its inclusion said they know nothing about audio and didn't bother including it in the review. Even Gigabytes own vieo fails to directly menion it, only including dac twice in the list when talking about the i/o Very disappointing.
DDR5 is very significant for gaming especially since NIVIDA just started changing their drivers to utilize RAM for overflow basically meaning your maxed graphics loads will be locked to RAM speed in effect. So 8000 oc DDR5 will actually be noticeable and 15th gen sockets completely do away with DDR4 altogether. So it is a refresh, but it's actually a significant one and more than RAM as well, such as PCI5 etc. but that's too much to write here.
Hive Mind Question: I just got an unopened Z790 Aorus Master for a build I'm going to put together. I also have a Intel 14th Gen CPU I was going to put in it. 14th gen is supported via a bios update. However this new Master X version supports 14th gen natively and so I'm wondering how much importance that has vs a bios update for the Master. Short version: Is it worth returning the Master and getting the Master X?
As far as I know then Z790 master is limited to 13th gen. Im speaking under correction. The X series was specifically brought out for the 14th Gen. Go for the X gen... Its newer and has better features.
Yet when you go to the gigabyte website to see the specs, these boards only support up to ddr5 4800. Not even the current ddr5 5600. Sure they take higher frequencies but only via OC. Me really don't understand...
Pretty sure most their spec pages mention 7000/8000+ MHz, like most brands, technically everything over Intel spec is "OC". I haven't had any issues with most 6000-7200 MHz kits via XMP.
@@TechTesters Maybe I just don't know. I just go by specs. If the current intel CPU supports up to DDR5 5600, I go and purchase that, since overclocking is really not worth it. But then all manufacturers, except for Gigabyte, will tell you they support all the way to DDR5 5600, matching the CPU and chipset; and the rest is OC. So still weird to see Gigabyte setting their non OC limit to DDR5 4800. And because of that I wonder if the ram performance would be different. Gigabyte would do the same as other manufacturers when advertising DDR4 specs, so again is very strange the way they are doing things now.
I am not sure which motherboard to get: Z790 Aorus Master X or Asus Z790 Dark Hero. Also, I am not sure which is better: DisplayPort 1.2 (Master X) or HDMI 2.1 (Dark Hero).
I mention some of the differences in the video. Both are good boards but both have some features the other doesn't. DP/HDMI doesn't matter assuming you're using a GPU.
@@TechTesters i watch a lot of contents from famous tech youtubers (GN, LTT, Hardware Unboxed, etc) and your motherboard reviews are definitely one of the bests
Regarding the master X...if you add a Gen 5 in its slot, I am lead to believe the Video GPU slot drops form 16pin to * pin reducing the Video cards performance, can anybody clarify that ? Stupid having hig end CPU and Board Gen 5 and high end GPU to find the drops in performance as you added a Gen 5 NVm
The GPU will run in x8 instead of x16 mode when an SSD is installed there, but that isn't a limitation of the Master X / Gigabyte, but one of Intel: This applies to all these motherboards. It also makes maybe a 1-2% difference in some scenarios, so if you really need that M.2 Bandwidth, you're probably OK with paying that price.
Makes one wonder what the maximum performance increase would be compared to a midrange Z590 board from 2021. I think an overclocked midrange from 2021 would compare to a Z790 stockspeeds. Yet i can not deny the bottlenecks which cause the GPU RTX 40 series to throttle/break at highspeeds (75%). At stockspeed on a I5 11600k, this goes up to 25%. Which is a major drawback since one would not get the maximum out of their GPU performance. On top of that, the RTX4070TI is already its own bottleneck with a memory bandwidth of 192-bit instead of 384-bit. So all in all, with a i7 1470k, new DDR5 XMP2 or better with high frequency/lowest possible latency, PCIe 5 and the fastest M2 SSD you can get, performance increase should be quite noticeable across the board. Assuming water-cooling comes at hand so we can test it as its own max clock speeds within stable limits.
I bought the Gigabyte Aorus Pro X for a 14700k. I wish I had went Asus Rog Strix E gaming. The bios is better and the on board sound is WAY better on Asus.
That's because most people that have the money to build one of these usually have their own sound card or more often such as you case, use a DAW to handle all of their audio. If you buy studio monitors (speakers) you would never plug those into any onboard graphics, you would use a card or DAW, so they probably just save that money and invest it elsewhere on the board because they know their enthusiast market will probably be using a good monitor and audio device if they are investing in one of these boards.
Edit: I meant such as my case I use a DAW and I meant on-board audio, not graphics. If you are currently using onload audio, from either company, stop. Definitely get a sound card or even better a DAW. My DAW, a MOTU-6 sits right next to me and it makes everything sound amazing, inculding my headphones because not only is the sound processed at a higher level than any on-board could ever hope to be, the headphones also have an Amp on the output which makes an unbelievable difference, plus all the audio controls are right next to me and everything is ran through two wires instead of 20. Definitely never use on-board audio sway your decsion, just get like a Scarlett 2 or MOTU 2, which are cheap and good enough and forget about on-board audio altogether.
From my point of view, Gigabyte makes a big mistake with the common single piece of M.2 heatsink. That's why I have to lean to Asus motherboards. Also no producer was able to provide a Z790 chipset based motherboard to support simultaneous Gen5 M.2 SSD and PCIEX16 slot running at x16 like X670E AMD chipset based motherboards supports.
I bought my MSI 790-A motherboard for $230. (230 dollars for a motherboard!!!) All the fluff is over hyped. Please stop paying these ridiculous prices for these boards. The price will come down. $240, sorry had to take another look.
Hi Nada. My wife and I had a super Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings. I enjoyed her Pineapple stuffing made inside the oven, not the bird. The only thing missing at our dining room table was YOU. Oh well, there's always Christmas!
I love how there is a comperison after each motherboard explanation, thanks
Love these product tier breakdowns. You can get dizzy, comparing multiple spec sheets 😵💫. Thanks for doing the legwork 👍.
The original Z790 Aorus Master should be below $400 now and the only thing it is "lacking" from the new one is the easy M.2 heatsink removal.

The features like in a motherboard are. External power and CMOS reset buttons.
Thanks. BIOS updated Z690s but it's nice to know what they have out now.

Nice video. However given you need a new socket for 15th Gen intel CPU. I really don't see who those motherboards will appeal to
I had to buy a new, refurbished motherboard. My Z790 Aorus Master completely failed to work with my i9-13900K, and I'm not sure why.
I have the extreme x, yes I know it’s overkill but I like it, works amazingly with 14900k/4090 matrix (yea I know it’s completely overpriced)
If you are happy with it no point to think it is overpriced. Money is worthless anyway so...just enjoy.
@@TheBebe666 You can still be happy and think it's overpriced.
If it makes you happy and you can afford it, why not. Enjoy it!
@@TechTestersyeah it’s not really worth it but it is a beautiful board
I would only want that board due to the connectors coming out from the side/hidden, but the master is good enough for me
Why is there no Line In socket on any of these boards?
Couldn't agree more about the elite ax. If you need another feature... get a card for one of the 3 pcie slots. And save urself 900 $
perfect tier review. I always wanted something like this. love the content. subscribed. keep them coming! Thank you!
Great now I want a 1300 euro motherboard...

i just like to see Cmos bathery under load with RGB @80* degree is very eficient.......very good health

if you are using a gen 4 m.2 in the first slot, does it still steal lines from the gpu?
I already got 1700 socket my computer can 14th generation Intel it's on the motherboard website that my z790 xtreme can support 14th generation Intel
That extreme x looks clean!

is 14900k worth upgrade from 5950x?
Are you unhappy with your 5950X? If not, I'd probably keep it a bit longer.
I used rtx4070ti with i7 4790k for 6 months now in my 10 year old pc 😂 finally upgrading to 14900k.. there is much worse😂
hm, I think i'll still go for a z790 aorus ax (non elite)
the wifi7 one is 50% pricier here, dont think its worth it and my budget is tight
The “old” ax is still completely fine, especially if its much cheaper!
Where is the thermal comparision?
all of the VRM's above 12 stages are going to be very cool and the cpu is 13/14, so it will always be very hot
realtek audio 4080 isnt better than 1200 they are the same. 4080 is just a different internal connection(usb) and often causes problems

My computer can use 14th generation I don't need z790 xtreme x I can just put a 14th generation in my z790 xtreme I updated my bios
