    I got this motherboard and I absolutely love it. Much rather spend the money on something I like then something I don't and when you realize how much money we waste on little things that's not needed when you add it up $100 isn't a lot

    Mine would not power on, just did it's diagnostics then rebooted and got stuck in that loop. Updated BIOS but made no difference. Tried different CPU/RAM and PSU from a working machine but did not resolve it. Returned for a refund.

    The first 1:30sec made me an instant, lifetime subscriber of Laurent's channel. Love it! I went ahead and picked this board up, because it wasn't rated as a "bad" board by ANY stretch. It just wasn't listed as a justified expense over the Elite. So, when it went on sale significantly cheaper than the Elite, I jumped on it, and it matches my Lian Li 011 Dynamic, which while very cool looking, and very well made case, is an excruciatingly painful experience (to say the very least) to actually have to use it for a practical build. Lian Li wins "the most nauseating experience with a case" award (at least with that model) But, I digress... As far as I know (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) There's not a board on the market that doesn't share PCIE lanes with a graphics card, using PCIE 5.0 M.2 ssd's. *GREAT video. These companies are making it barbarically confusing to figure out what boards can do what, clearly. When you go to their page is poorly defined over-hyped crap, and you have no way of gauging what you're getting without personal experience with the boards/builds, which is obviously very time-consuming, and expensive. So, these videos are priceless.* I'm hoping at some point an MB will come out that doesn't share the M.2 slots (at least the primary one) with the graphics card. I'm not building this for gaming, so I may mess around with installing the GC in another slot just to see what will break 🤣. If it means sacrificing graphics, but opening up the speed of the M.2, I may do that till a better solution comes along. Would be interesting to hear feedback on that from the guru's.

    Gigabyte making white themed products always hits me weird for some reason, I guess I'm too used to the stealthy black style they've been having for so long.
    As for the price difference, not so suprising, just like for graphics card the white paint is very expensive apparently! x)

    It is sad that Gigabyte tries to hide all the features on their new boards and charge more for their white boards and give you less. It is the same with AMD x670e/B650 boards as they sell you the same name boards and add Ice and X and lower the PCB layers to 6. Gigabyte hides their features like ALC897 Codec audio and just call it High Def. and force you to find it somewhere in all their Docs. Gigabyte has no problem showing the ALC 1220 Codec in the main description. The Pro X would have been the perfect board if done the right way Like M.2 gen 5 and PCIe Gen 5 but they didn't and they still charge way to much just to get white.

    the vrm design on this is baffling. 9+9, really? This is the pro - did they make the pro too good for z690 and kill master sales for that gen? Anyway, there is not Ultra outside of the i version, and the X refresh was the perfect time to bring it back - use this, or really the black version, and give it a true 18 (or 16) and add the master's dac, and boom, you have Z90 Ultra X.

    TL;DR: get this board if you're doing a white or panda build.
    The ASUS "ROG MAXIMUS Z790 Dark HERO" has basically everything this board has except it's missing the quick release heatsinks and only has 2.5GbE LAN instead of the 5GbE port on the Pro X. The Pro X also has a white PCB which isn't standard in the industry as they're costly to produce, and it's likely where the bump in price comes from. The PCIe 5.0 lanes are shared on ALL Z790 motherboards from every manufacturer, and as you point out yourself that's an Intel problem because for some reason they limit the lanes on their "consumer level" CPUs, and have scrapped HEDT chips. Also, running GPUs at x8 has no noticeable real world impact on any card - you will not miss 3-4 FPS. But here's the real kicker: the Dark is £700 ($856.89), not the £419.99 ($514.12) that the Pro X costs. Every one of these "new" boards is overpriced; however, the top refreshed SKUs from ASUS are double the price of comparable boards from other manufacturers.
    I'd say ignore this review and get this board if you're building a white or panda PC because the only other Z790 board that competes with the Pro X is the Apex which is £720 and was on sale at RRP for approximately three seconds anyway, and came with the potential to fry your CPU thanks to an awful BIOS.
    At this point it should be a manufacturer critique rather than of individual boards as the brands are desperately trying to make tiny revisions seem huge, and are charging us ridiculous prices.

      @ArthurSalt 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Laurentschoice Okay fella 👌. I just thought your review seemed disproportionately negative. It's important to contrast this board with other comparable boards for sale that are significantly overpriced. The industry is in a bit of a mess that's for sure. Nevertheless, as always, it was a well-made video 😉👍

    • @Laurentschoice
      @Laurentschoice  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I get what you mean. Totally do. I'm reviewing the Dark Hero today. So I get you.
