  • Nurbanu's Obstacle to the Concubine! | Magnificent Century
"I’M IN CHARGE HERE!" Magnificent Century Episode 129: • Magnificent Century Ep...
Hürrem blames Suleiman embittering the fight between Selim and Bayezid. As Bayezid chases up the ones who has set a trap for him, Selim gets worried that he'll get disclosed. Suleiman confiscates Mahidevran's wealth because she has supported the revolt. Hürrem brings Selim to account after she learns that he has set the trap for Bayezid. Meanwhile, Fatma plays Nurbanu and Huricihan off against each other and turns the harem upside down. Suleiman orders that Kara Ahmed will be executed since he has taken up the revolt. Someone witnesses Gazanfer's love for Nurbanu that causes to be shed blood. Hürrem takes a vow to not to choose between his sons and chooses her nominee for throne.
At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

And some people are still surprised that all the Haseki/Valide Sultanas: Hurrem, Nurbanu, Safiye, Kosem, Turhan etc. had anger and cruelty issues.

I have never blamed any one of them . I am not a hurrem fan but a mustafa supporter but to expect these women to just be nice obedient ladies while having their kids killed is an option no mother would ever take . I have my reservations with them serious ones but circumstances , grief and love for their children made them tough as a rock and heartless . Either you perished with your children or the other perished . Medieval era was like that . Only in the past 100 years or so have we understood to an extent to what human rights are.

    • @medixstar9184
      @medixstar9184 2 ปีที่แล้ว +68

Hurrem Sultana was the first concubine who broke traditions in harem. She was freed and got legaly married and was the first concubine to earn title "Sultana" because they were called "Hatun" (Lady). She also became royal advisor to Sultan Suleiman. And as for Kosem Sultana well she was the first woman to rule the empire as Regent Queen, something never seen in Ottoman Empire. Since ottoman werent much pro feminin.

    • @lol4lol993
      @lol4lol993 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

If you're asking the question based on this drama, my take is that the actors definitely made a huge difference. "Nurbanu" doesn't look as regal and as dominant as Hurrem or Kosem because she simply fails to deliver the acting. Well, yeah she acts nice - her fearful eyes, anxious steps, temper tantrums etc are well choreographed, but when it comes to displaying a powerful aura, none can beat the actors playing Hurrem and Kosem - the older two ( also, to add extra - Safiye and Halime). I don't know how Nurbanu was in real life, but yep, based on this show, that's how Hurrem and Kosem topples others down. However, if you're wanting to know the fact (your question) based on history, the other poster above me has the answer. 🙂

What I hate about nurbanu is that she always has her head high in the sky, claiming to be hurrem’s successor but she does not deserve that title. Hurrem did everything on her own, going against very powerful opponent to survive, Mahidevran, Valide, Ibrahim, the demon sisters, even Suleiman himself. As she said, she sat on a table with lions. Who is nurbanu to be so entitled and arrogant. Hurrem gained every bit of power she got. Nurbanu on the other hand, received support and strength from the very powerful Hurrem Sultan. The reason she came to power was not through her own effort but through hurrem’s help, if she was put Ian hurrem’shoes and went against Valide she would have been chewed in the first round.

You obviously have no education on this part of history.
1 you're talking about the drama show not real history
2 nurbanu always had her head in the sky because unlike hurrem who was a farmer's daughter, nurbanu was a noble girl and the daughter of one of the most powerful and richest Venetian families.
3 "hurrem did everything on her own and gained every power on her own" 😂
HISTORICALLY speaking hurrem never struggled in her life and lived comfortably in the palace, she was also very loved by seuliman's mother hafsa sultan and his sisters especially hatice, they treated her like family, the only historical person she didn't have good relations with is fatma sultan.
Even the rivalry with mahidevran is exaggerated, they were friends for most of their lives.
And hurrem's rivalry with other characters in the show were all mostly fictional
Ibrahim wasn't defeated by hurrem either, she just manipulated seuliman into executing him (the same way she did with innocent prince Mustafa)
Also historically speaking, hurrem have no achievements and no actual authority.
All historians agree that nurbanu is the first powerful women in ottoman history that ruled the state with the sultan

      - one of the most loved sultanas
      - one of the most charitable sultanas
      - first sultana to do military work
      - first sultana to influence the janissaries
      - first haseki sultan to co-rule the state officially
      - first and ONLY sultana to hold both titles valide sultan & haseki sultan AT THE SAME TIME.
Also Nurbanu (unlike her predecessor hurrem who was called the russian witch and was hated by all ottomans who wanted to execute her many times) was extremely loved and respected in ottoman society, she was called "the honored and strong valide sultan". Nurbanu was the FIRST powerful women in Ottoman history (claimed by majority of historians).
      - first institutionalized valide sultan with legalized authority
      - first co-ruler
      - first co-regent (to 2 sultans)
      - first sultana to oversee imperial concessions
      - first sultan to oversee imperial processions
      - First female head of the imperial treasury
      - first sultana to build a library in Istanbul
      - first sultana to live in the topkapi palace
      - first female ambassador
      - first Sultana to oversee the capital in the absence of the sultan
      - first sultana to triumph over the pashas
      - first Sultana to have supremacy over the council (a grand vizier once said to nurbanu that a woman opinion doesn't matter in the council and the next day he lost his position😂)
      - shes responsible for the transfer of the harem to the topkapi palace
      - first Sultana to influence politics on a grand scale (not just "advising" the Sultan)
      - first sultana to be considered equal to a sultan
      - nurbanu was said to have ruled the empire through her son who ascended young so he always took her advice
      - most loved sultana by her son
      - first sultana to write imperial decrees on behalf of her son
      - first sultana to receive title valide sultan because sultanas before her were called valide hatun, nurbanu is the FIRST registered valide sultan.
      - one of the most loved sultanas
      - one of the most charitable sultanas
      - first sultana to do military work
      - first sultana to influence the janissaries

Nurbanu was also said to be poisoned by the Genoa government because they saw her as threat that's how powerful she was.

love the show, but jesus christ! how is nurbanu a sultan after giving birth to 1 prince but Rana stayed a hatun when she had more than 1 prince. but now defne, gives birth to 1 prince and is automatically a sultana. in season 2 when hurrem had 3 sons everyone still called her hatun. Bad writing!

Valide sultan rules the harem, all the harems, nurbanu has no power and she wasn't like that in real life, sad.

Well, in the harems of Hürrem's sons there wouldn't have been an official Valide as she didn't follow them to any of their sanjaks (couldn't really, for at least two reasons) but there would have been a woman such as Fahriye fulfilling the duties in her place. Admittedly too Nurbanu's doing the exact same thing that Hürrem herself used to do, so I can't judge her overly much (or, at least, it's nothing new).
