Hürrem blames Suleiman embittering the fight between Selim and Bayezid. As Bayezid chases up the ones who has set a trap for him, Selim gets worried that he'll get disclosed. Suleiman confiscates Mahidevran's wealth because she has supported the revolt. Hürrem brings Selim to account after she learns that he has set the trap for Bayezid. Meanwhile, Fatma plays Nurbanu and Huricihan off against each other and turns the harem upside down. Suleiman orders that Kara Ahmed will be executed since he has taken up the revolt. Someone witnesses Gazanfer's love for Nurbanu that causes to be shed blood. Hürrem takes a vow to not to choose between his sons and chooses her nominee for throne.
At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

That scene with Nurbanu and Murad reminded me of Mahidevran and little Mustafa. However the difference between the two is that Nurbanu is smart enough to not involve her son, whereas dumb Mahidevran isn't, and gets her son in trouble. But imagine if she did, would be funny seeing a young Murad complain to either Suleiman or Selim, or even go at his grandmother 😂
Nurbanu was brilliant and cunning and knew how to swallow her pride unlike Mahidervan
Hurrem and Nurbanu both knew that a mere title cannot protect you alone. Not even being "nice" will protect you (There's no room for nice people in this cruel world). You have to be smart and use critical thinking to survive. I'm amazed by these two historical figures!
Mustafa loved his mother more than any other prince also he knew how to treat women respectfully.
Um the only reason Hurrem got far was because of the Sultan! Mahidevran was smart and a great mother! Her only downfall was the sultan! Period!
I like the older Hurrem. She is refined, doesn't get hysterical like the younger Hurrem but uses her experience in getting her way and has that Queen look about her.
I think the young Hurrem wasn’t powerful back than and wanted more and more power that’s why she was like that but the older Hurrem has all the power and behaves like a true queen. Her journey from a slave to a sultana/ Queen is very remarkable.
They have to be a little different. Age does that.

Poor Hurrem. She must be utterly exhausted. This was a woman who bore 5 (historically 6) children to the Ottoman Empire (5 of whom were boys), in a time when one prince to one concubine was the norm. Mahidevran's jealousy from the very beginning would have been even worse once Mehmed was born, and with each birth of another prince, her anxiety and fear for the lives of her children would have been grown and grown. She didn't have the oldest prince, and while her children were young, Mustafa would have been considered the strongest candidate for the thrown if something happened to Suleiman. Her best hope to ensure the survival of all her children would have been to raise them to be close to each other, and get Mehmed on the throne. I think she felt he would abandon the fratricide practices and care for his brothers. Then Mehmed died, and her first priority had to be standing against Mustafa. So to finally have Mustafa out of the way and then lose her youngest, the despair she must have felt to think her last surviving sons were willing to kill each other for the throne is just heartbreaking. The energy she put forth over decades to keep herself in Suleiman's favor and protect her children. The scrutiny she endured and the enemies she made when she likely wanted peace and security. The deaths laid at her feet when she possibly had nothing to do with it. I can't imagine how exhausted she must have felt mentally and emotionally in the later years of her life. Existing in a state of constant survival mode takes a toll on all aspects of the body, and that's why Hurrem has my respect. For better or worse, I understand the impossible positions she was in.
That is why she died young from cancer
She also dies early from a disease (likely caused by lead poisoning) from the makeup she wore during her youth. This is what I heard and it makes a lot sense considering the disease might not have been genetic. But a cause from something that actually killed a lot of women back in those times. Even Queen Victoria had died from the same thing and many normal women who weren’t even queens or nobles had died from previous makeup that was commonly used (I think a white foundation that made their skin look paler).

But unfortunately their freedom was taken away and they were forced to become slaves in the Ottoman Empire. It was funny when every royal blood insulted them as slaves, as if they forgot who was the cause of all the sultanah being slaves.

The Mihrimah we see at the end is the Mihrimah that should've been. One that is loyal to both her parents, but has common sense and knows when her mother is wrong about something. Sorta like Humaşah Sultan from the Kösem series

In all honesty , the audacity and horrible words Fatima said to hurrem , she was composed enough to not react immediately and slap her face . What a horrible horrible thing to say to a mother . There is no point of this stupid rivalry with hurrem now . Valide , sah , hatice , Ibrahim , mahidevran and every hurrem enemy stood against her because of one source and power that was mustafa . He was the reason they all stood up to hurrem . After mustafa , all these fights are so pointless and hopeless . There is so much they could've shown instead . Maybe some sweet scenes between Suleiman and hurrem maybe which were not much at all .

100% agree. It's sad because the writing of Magnificent Century had its flaws but it was always, at its core, pretty good through S1 to S3, but then S4 rolls around and we still have amazing scenes like Mustafa's death, than Chiangir's but overall the show becomes so dull. The show went on for too long.
Whorrem was a hypocrite. One who killed many innocents. She was no mother but a baby producing machine to secure her place. No mercy is shown to such women
Miramah is right - the war already started. Hurrem was în denial. However, i never understood the rivality between Selim and Bayezid. Mustafa and Mehmet also competed for the throne, and they actually lived în harmony as brothers and they weren't even fully blood related brothers... I could never understand why Sleim and Bayezid constantly went against eachother, the rest fo the siblings had harmony even when they were from rival families.
From what I understand is that it was clash of personality and ego. Sometimes siblings dislike one another for the pettiest reason. In case with Selim and Bayezid it could they didn't find anything to bond with. They simply didn't like one another because they had traits that they didn't like. Could be that one brother thought he was more capable than the other.

Fatma brought Hurricihan, her own niece to the palace, somehow using her to mess with Hurrem. In the end she sided with Nurbanu instead of her niece just because she wanted the brothers against each other further.
She lives with knowing that Suleiman will kill Bayzeid but still does not try to kill him. If it were anyone else, they'd have tried to kill him before he could kill their son. Hurrem lives with her knowledge yet trusts in his decisions as she always had. You can see the strain in their relationship though but at the end she sees that he loves her and leaves knowing she did all she could to save her son's.

@Leo She didn't really have a choice, since she had to fight for the life of her husband and son. Remember, she nearly ended up as Bayezid's concubine instead.
@Leo That's not feasible. Nurbanu wanted her son AND husband to survive, if she allowed Bayezid to win then by Ottoman Law her son and Selim will be executed. She already drew her own destiny and it led to her living a full life and dying as a formal legitimate Valide Sultana during Murad's rule. Staying on Hürrem's side wouldn't have helped her and likely just have delayed the inevitable.

most deserving of throne was Mehmed- the kind, smartest, bravest Shehzade and Suleiman’s favorite.

I would like to ask a question. And I clearify that I am asking it as friendly and respectfully as possible.
What exactly Hurrem is trying to accomplish here; I mean, things were simple when she had to get rid of Mustafa in order to secure the throne for one of her sons. Now the only contenders for the throne are Selim and Bayazid. Two of Hurrem's sons. And while Hurrem prefers Bayazid, she doesn't move to punish Selim for his actions. Instead she prefers to blame others for them.
So, what exactly does Hurrem try to accomplish; Does she thinks that she can pick one of her sons to succeed their father and the other will simply sit by and accept that decision; Or does she think that she can have them rule together as coemperors or something;
I once again clearify that I am asking out of real curiosity. By no means to criticize or berate Hurrem sultan.
