fancy cleavage dresses were in fact a sign of nobility in the past, particularly in france. turns out your modern sensibilities don't apply to everyone throughout the entirety of history.
@@powerbeard5653 Funnily enough the Victorians were more accepting of showing some cleavage than ankles. I can't think of many periods in "modern" history (A.C) where advanced societies wore as few clothes as we do today, which is why it's funny we associate "modern sensibilities" with prudishness when we wear less (and more revealing) clothes today than many of our ancestors did during their time. During the 11th and 12th century of Medieval age there was what was considered a "Warm Period" followed by a "Little Ice Age" that lasted from 16th to the 19th century, which influenced what people wore. Beyond that, fashion was mostly dictated by class, culture and time period. All I can say that is that for the greater part of the last millennium, women were always seen wearing long dresses (a trend I wish would come back).
@@ivoryowl You say period like there was not many different cultures existing during the same time span. Most did have a standard of a lot of clothes. In old days clothes were not cheap to make so for most people would be wear what you can get. and for a lot of nobles it would be wear what is trendy.
@@phantom-ri2tg Both the present and the past have their pros and cons. Back in those times clothes were more expensive but they were also made to last and those who could afford it (usually middle and upper closes) could pay a tailor to customize their outfit to their needs. Nowadays clothes are more affordable but the downside is that they are made with lower quality materials that don't last because we live in a consumerist society where "planned obsolescence" exists to make you buy more. We rarely fix anything anymore, we just throw it away and replace it. This goes for anything "cheap". Western society has been ditching the idea of self-reliance and creating a culture that is entirely dependent on others. My mother and grandmother are from a time when women were expected to know how to sew and men were supposed to be handy. We're losing all of that.
@@ivoryowl A bunch of that did not even serve a point to what was being talked about. Yes clothes back then were more durable.
