I was in a Rolex AD on Thursday in Knightsbridge, London, I was the only one in there, I had two salesmen to ask questions too. I didn’t even bother to ask about a watch I ordered 19 months ago. I went to the Grey Market and purchased. A Rolex watch should last you all your life, I purchased my first Rolex 40 years ago at 25% off list.
You should. People despise the grey market, not willing to pay a premium, so they rather wait three years to buy the watch from an AD for more money, as there were three price increases in the meantime. 😂
You not playing the game correctly. You need to dress up, wear nice stuff, go in keep asking for the watch and they will get it for you. You also will feel special because they jumped others for you
This is the mindset everyone should have after sticking with the hobby for a little while. I just got rid of all my watches and put the funds towards an explorer 40. I overpaid a little bit but I’m not going to take this thing off my wrist till I’m an old fart if so lucky.
Yep I bought a bi metal blue sub, 1998 for £2600, wore it 24/7 till 2010 and sold for £3600. Got a Mileguass GV black, 2013 £4000 sold this year for £7500. Held on to my 2000 drilled lug hole Sea Dweller which was a £4000 purchase.
Interesting viewing. Local ADs are racking and stacking the full gold jackets so they definitely ain’t moving. We could be heading back to the days that all but the hype and super primes are going to be available from the AD within 24 months.
Just picked up a SD43 after a very short wait at the AD. I don't care about the resale as I'll likey never sell. But, interesting seeing where the market is at.
I appreciate the transparency from your channel. It has to be tough right now with the market dropping. I know a lot of people get joy from seeing grey market dealers hurting, but its a job like all of us have. You sell something (material, labor, time) at a price that the market dictates plus a %. That's the profit that keeps people employed rather than working for free. If I buy a Rolex and can't find it from an AD (likely can't since i want a Ghost on Oysterflex) ill give you a shout first at minimum. Not sure how VAT works since I'm in the US so that would be my only hangup.
We don’t feel the same way about the grey market in the U.K. they are the flippers who have grossly inflated the market with greed Thankfully the recession will see them off

The grey market will soon be the friend of the common collector again soon when more and more Rolex models dip below RRP. The grey market is not going away. Regardless of whether watches sell below, at or above RRP - they buy the product, stick their margin on top and then sell it. In fact, I'm sure dealers like Charlie will actually have a better more flourishing business once prices come down further.
@@matports_live that is kind of my feeling. I think the last 3 yrs have really hurt the grey market and AD relationship with the buyers. It's all a margins game. If the demand is higher and flippers get in, cost goes up. If demand goes down the flippers run out of people to sell to and cost goes down. The grey market just buys the cost with the margin (I'm guessing 15-20%). I think the ADs who held stock to sell ONLY to the grey market inflating prices is where the greed hurt everyone's reputation in both the grey market and ADs. Not saying that isn't unwarranted as these backdoor deals are coming back to bite everyone.

I don’t think that inflation should really affect in house watch brands. Their labor costs are the same that they have been for years, and precious metals haven’t changed much either, especially not stainless prices to justify $1000-$2000 price increases on stainless models. There’s typically a reason for price increases, and a justifiable one is cost of materials, but I don’t see how cost of materials in a stainless steel watch could increase upwards of $2000 when a stainless watch only has a couple of dollars at best in stainless steel scrap value.
Thanks a lot for your videos! Would be really nice if you could talk about the Airking in your next video. I own the new reference and it's my favourite watch of all my collection. Thanks for covering the ladies watches. I bought the jubilee, blue dial with diamonds for my wife from the AD. glad to know it’s sought after and was a “good buy”
Which Rolex’s have parts made in China, is it just the submariner, Datejust, GMT and Daytona or do they use them in all their watches now. What year did they start using Chinese parts in their watches, 2018 or was it before the 3235 movements? I want to buy a newer Xlax watch but I don’t want to pay Swiss watch prices for a Chinese watch. You know what I mean
New to this watch culture and can someone explain to me what the interest is in the Submariner and what about it makes it costs $11k? I don’t find it a good looking watch, the other ones that you said you would pass on IMO are much better looking so what made this so popular because I know that high 90% of people buying them aren’t divers so why are people wanting this model? As for cost is it just the name, performance wise how does this watch compare to other brand “copies”?
I was waiting for you to talk about the GMT SPRITE LEFTY😢Been currently offered it at 16k on a jubilee bracelet brand new 2023 but still am very hesitant because of the current market do you think good buy or shall I wait a little bit more ? Any advice would be much appreciated 🙏
Hello Sir, I have been trying for 6 months to buy a Submariner (no date) , can’t even get on a list. Do you think I will ever get one? Kind regards. Ged.
Hello, I have a serious doubt because it is not whether to take the 36mm DJ or the 41mm DJ. I am afraid of making a mistake due to the size issue regarding my choice in case the 41mm DJ is very heavy. Any recommendations?
On the 36exploret I’ve lost money unfortunately… older version wears much better . I’ve bought the new slightly above retail and sold bellow retail . Imo the new air king 126900 has all the potential to be a future grail especially if they discontinue it . What is your opinion on that ? Also should o get the 116610LN for around 10000$ or should I go for the 126610LV for 10% above retail? Thank you mate you are always great !
Hi Charlie How are you? I hope you and your family and team are all keeping well and healthy, and you are all having a positive, happy weekend ? Another great genuine honest video the next time I am ready to purchase my next Rolex submarine I am hoping you are going to give me a good deal as a valued customer I wish you a positive productive week ahead kind regards 😊
I am based in Australia. Back in August - I would have bet my entire collection that the ADs received a big drop of Explorer IIs, and these were all backdoored straight to the flippers and the grey market. I never saw so many of one particular model watch hit the Facebook groups at the same time. I am sure ADs did this because they are still trying to create an illusion of "scarcity". I know several people who have been waiting since the ExpII was updated at W&W 2021 to get this piece. Believe me... they saw this happen and they are p***ed !!! The grey marketeers and flippers are delusional in terms of the prices being asked as well (between AU$3-5k above list).
I don't have specific groups, but rather there were many 2023 Explorer IIs which hit Facebook Marketplace in general back in August. I also have plenty of screenshots shared between myself and several other collecting friends in WhatsApp as well. On Sydney ADs and Boutiques, I am so over them that I now refuse to walk in. J Farren Price won't even discount Grand Seiko ! My intention now is to travel to either Singapore, Japan or Dubai at least one time per year to do 'try on hauls' (where they actually welcome you in without giving you an attitude that you're just a time waster who isn't going to buy any of their other soft stock) and then just focus on getting the pieces I eventually want to acquire via the grey market.
How much is a 2022 submariner worth with blue ceramic and blue dial in stainless steel and yellow gold? Also, the 2023 submariner with black dial and black ceramic in stainless steel and yellow gold?
Love your weekly updates mate. Is he Rolex blacklist for flipping within 3 years real or just a myth? I've always been told if an AD sells you one and you flip within 3 years then you are blacklisted...
Did you maintain your relationship with the AD in the last 4 years? I heard there isn’t really a waiting list as the ADs sell to preferred clients. I haven’t bothered visiting my AD to join the “waiting list” for that reason. I don’t want to buy other watches or flip the Rolex (if I could even buy it). Pity because I would actually wear it and enjoy it.

was offered a datejust 28 mother of pearl fluted jubilee. would you take it?
Which Rolex’s have parts made in China, is it just the submariner, Datejust, GMT and Daytona or do they use them in all their watches now. What year did they start using Chinese parts in their watches, 2018 or was it before the 3235 movements? I want to buy a newer Xlax watch but I don’t want to pay Swiss watch prices for a Chinese watch. You know what I mean
What do you think of the 126621? I’ve been offered one at below list good buy? At the same price point I can consider batgirl and Starbucks
Probably best to pass on this one if you are looking to flip 👍
That’s an accurate assessment ! Thanks for sharing your day to day data coming from a Watch Legend !
Thank you mate I really appreciate that, glad you liked this video 🙌
Is the datejust 41 jubilee fluted with a grey dial still worth picking up? Thanks.
Stunning model and a great combination 👌🏻
Hard to say where the bottom will be but will be a good one to hold for the future 👍
Hello Sir, I have been trying for 6 months to buy a Submariner (no date) , can’t even get on a list. Do you think I will ever get one? Kind regards. Ged.
Hi Ged it can be very tricky, just got to keep persevering you will get there one day 🙏
Hello, I have a serious doubt because it is not whether to take the 36mm DJ or the 41mm DJ. I am afraid of making a mistake due to the size issue regarding my choice in case the 41mm DJ is very heavy. Any recommendations?
The best thing would be to try both on and get a feeling for them on your wrist before you decide 👌🏻
@@thehonestwatchdealer I have tried them and one feels very small and the other a little big and I have a 6.8" wrist.
Great insights on the current market. Crazy the pepsi demands a higher cost than the 2023 RNR reference!
Thank you for watching mate, definitely a highly sought after watch 👌
On the 36exploret I’ve lost money unfortunately… older version wears much better . I’ve bought the new slightly above retail and sold bellow retail . Imo the new air king 126900 has all the potential to be a future grail especially if they discontinue it . What is your opinion on that ? Also should o get the 116610LN for around 10000$ or should I go for the 126610LV for 10% above retail? Thank you mate you are always great !
Yes the Air King is a stunning model and should be a good one to hold!
Tough choice but the Starbucks is stunning, should be a good one to go for 👌🏻
@@thehonestwatchdealer once again thanks for your reply ! My final question so is Starbucks or Kermit for future ???
@@dinamiena6186 Very difficult! Kermit is a very collectable watch 👌
Sorry I didn’t get it clear. Is DJ 36 Silver Fluted Jubilee profitable and worth a buy? My local AD offers near 2 years wait 😢
Probably around list but who’s to say where it will be in 2 years time.
Hopefully you don’t have to wait too long!
Is the DJ 36 black dial, smooth with oyster bracelet worth picking up? 126200. Will it hold value? Thanks!
Would be underlist this one which is a shame as it’s stunning!
Thanks! I will keep this one.
Hey charlie, can you comment on the pricing and availability of the BLRO in white gold?
I will see what I can do for you mate 🙏
Buy None, Pass All.
Hello, got the call for a 126300 (DJ 41) jubilee bracelet/smooth bezel/green motif dial, i'll definitely buy it but is it a good choice ? Ty 😘
Very nice watch! Should be a great long term hold 👍

What are your thoughts on an Air King. Buying to wear rather than flip but don't want to lose money........Thanks
It’s a solid choice, great watch and should hold its value 👌🏻

Rolex GMT Master 2 GRNR Bicolor is simply amazing! Thx for the video
You are very welcome mate, incredible colours isn't it 👌
Anyone paying over list for a Datejust needs their head examining
Second this. Seeing this trend from few dealers in Sydney too.
which facebook groups are you referring to ? I don't remember seeing many hit the local forums
Same. The flippers in Oz are still trying to hold on to the market and keep prices up
I don't have specific groups, but rather there were many 2023 Explorer IIs which hit Facebook Marketplace in general back in August.
50 next yr, up Port Maq way..do I bother an AD for my sea dweller or go the grey?
Thanks very much Charlie! Another great one!
Thank you mate glad you liked this one 🙏
Thanks a lot for this ! Since the Batman/Batgirl are sold out, I take it is a clear BUY?
Definitely a good one to go for yes 👌
Great video. Thank you so much 👍 What do you think of the Celebration dial OP at the grey market price?
Thank you for watching mate I appreciate it! Hyped prices have come down now and it is starting to settle 👌🏻
Any info on the oyster perpetual? I never hear anything about them on the channel.
I'll see if I can cover them on the next one 👌
Love this guys honesty 🙏 only watch dealer I trust online.
Thank you mate I really appreciate that 🙏
I just got the DJ oyster bezel and bracelet blue motif dial. Is that a buy or pass in your view?
I got it for wearing not flipping, but my money is safe in this peace mate?
•piece
Should hold its value well over the long term, stunning watch congratulations! 🙏
Green OP 41? Buy from ad or pass?
Thanks.
Yes a good one to go for 👌
Guys, I like your style. Very honest review. Thank you
Thank you for watching mate I really appreciate it 👌
How much is a 2022 submariner worth with blue ceramic and blue dial in stainless steel and yellow gold?
Also, the 2023 submariner with black dial and black ceramic in stainless steel and yellow gold?
If you get in touch via the website we can take a look at these models for you 👍

Love your weekly updates mate. Is he Rolex blacklist for flipping within 3 years real or just a myth? I've always been told if an AD sells you one and you flip within 3 years then you are blacklisted...
Thanks mate appreciate it! It can be true yes, just got to make sure you sell to somewhere reputable who won’t let you get caught out 👍
Picking up a submariner black date on Saturday hopefully. Ordered it 4 years ago and i forgot i was on the list for that particular watch !
Congratulations on getting the call! 🥳
So, 2023 Daytona models are not included??
They will be included in the next one 👌
Great Channel! I have to find a way to become a client (I’m in New York area) I was offered the yellow gold Daytona 126508 with a golden dial
Is that a buy or pass? Thanks
Thanks mate I appreciate that!
The full gold bracelet models are struggling a bit at the moment. Should make a good long term hold though 👍
