Really proud of you for posting this. We’ve all seen your haters and we all know their nasty attitudes. Honestly though it’s true, everyone does make mistakes. Especially when keeping 100+ Tarantulas, you may hurt one on accident someday. This is a great video, it is clearly an accident. Accidents are not 'vile'. I'm preparing for this hobby and now I know to be mindful of my grip while using gloves/tongs which hadn't crossed my mind yet. You're making a difference thanks!
Idk if this is because my tarantulas don't bolt or kick hair easily but I would have just grabbed the wood with my hands. But kudos to you for still posting this and acknowledging that mistakes can happen at any time.
I have been there with you girl! What had happened for me was that I hadn’t seen my jumping spider sling in a few days. I went to look around her enclosure to see if she was alright. I lifted up a crystal to check if she was underneath, and she was! She was healthy and alive. Somehow my grip on the crystal slipped and she narrowly missed it by jumping. It was horrifying!! I cried from the panic lol. I no longer use anything heavy in my enclosures! It’s okay Kat, a lot of us have been there!! Im so glad both of our girlies are okay and that we have learned that it happens sometimes. Thank you for sharing so we can all learn with you! You are not alone in the guilt & anxiety when these things take place haha! It’s super scary. So much love to u and ur babies from one spider momma to another! 🌱🕷❤️
They should make us some new tongs with grip - it happened to me too and at the moment the earth stopped spinning and I went cold luckily it was a 3d printed hide but the tarantula also moved before it dropped - scary stuff no pumpkins needed.
oh gosh my heart dropped when that cork dropped, that enclosure looks really nice though! I also love the hat! I don't have any rehouses coming up soon so I'll make sure to keep in mind to be careful with cork! EDIT: Also Valentina molted the other day! has the start of her heart butt mark!
Have you tried surgical forceps? They have various ends, usually with textured teeth for gripping and you can hold on to things gently or very tightly with the scissors-style handles or even lock them onto things.. They might be safer than tongs for maneuvers like this. Thank you for sharing this, we all make mistakes. Glad your girl is okay! 🕷️❤️
Hi Kat! Yeah that was scary. I was a little worried when I saw the giant gloves 🧤 on your little hands - 😳 Anyway , glad all is well and that you are honest with your followers.
Thanks from learning from your mistakes!! I think i will use tongs for this in the future but from now i will not go over my Tarantula again so it should be save!! It is very difficult to grab such large pieces with only one tong so maybe its a good idea to take a second one or something like a spoon to help liften it up so u must not grab the hole piece only wiht the tongs! Thank u very much for your videos!!!
Oh sweetie!! Don’t feel guilty about an accident!!! It was an accident and you know this kind of thing just happens! We all know how much you love your Ts and the most important thing is that the tarantula is ok! So, forget about it and just go ahead! You made a wonderful enclosure for her, maybe one of most beautiful seen so far! Much much love to you and your stunning tarantulas ❤️🕷 You are THE BEST ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤍
I want to recommend you a method to rehouse such a hair kicking tarantula. Instead of having to move it use the water sprayer and use it over the T, I used it once in my Auratum and they dont flick hairs in that way, because they detect that water as rain and they will just move to the other side, its pretty effective
@whatacuteTae yes, an autatum can be pretty skitish during the rehouse. Moving them can cause them to kick hairs and get nervous, so what I do is gently splaying water behind it. Tarantulas have an instinct to avoid water and rain, so instead of flicking hairs they just move to find cover somewhere else
I've seen this happen on soo many channels you can never be too careful. Invest in a pair of "longlockers" it's adjustable vicegrips and they will save your Ts as well as make your life easier.
I appreciate your transparency and sharing that with us. I will say i was right there with you going OH SHITTT! I think a lot of people here were but it's ok! Just wondering - If you wanted to use tongs do you think that kitchen ones would be a better grip? (then just dedicate them to tarantula land) I thought the new enclosure looks bomb! and the colouring of Brewha (? spelling) just perfect. Love the foxy ears!
I just found an aphonopelma hentzi juvenile death curl at my house. I gave it some water & it had a bit more life to it. So I gave it a inclosure & a water dish. So I hope it will survive! 🕷💜
I've had 2 mishaps with my Hapalopus sp columbia (large) pumpkin patch sling. First one was when I was attempting to feed it in it's 50 dram vial. I looked down to talk to my cat (yes, I talk to her) and accidentally smacked the enclosure with my tongs. The enclosure flew off the shelf 4 feet down to the floor. I expected to see a sling with an exploded abdomen. But I had to dump the substrate out before I found it, and it was walking around like nothing happened. The 2nd time was when I was holding up it's current enclosure, a small temporary betta tank. I was holding it by the handle on the top when the lid popped off. Again I freaked out, but after a few minutes I saw the tarantula walking around on the floor. I then put it in a temporary container while rearranged it's enclosure.
I've had this happen so much that I actually don't pickup anything with decent weight in the enclosure with tongs. U did everything 1000% right but mistakes happen. Remember when Petko did a rehouse and squashed his little T on accident? I felt so bad for him. That's exactly what I thought when I seen this thumbnail. Thank goodness everyone is OK. No worries, just learned a little lesson is all lol. Still smarter than what I do with my T's. I use my hands for everything (except picking them up and feeding them). That's how things REALLY go wrong. No bites for the past 10yrs so guess I'll keep shooting 🎲 with the devil 😆😆😆
I respect you for leaving the clip in. People make mistakes and accidents happen, and this is a good teaching moment for tarantula owners, old and new. Keeping pets isn't just all good times and I like seeing people address the bad and sad as its all part & parcel of being an owner.
Oh my gosh, my heart stopped, I'm glad she's OK. It's awful when you accidentally hurt your babies, the amount of times I've kicked or tripped over my kitties because they sneak behind and through my legs as I am walking, proper scissor effect as they're trapped between each ankle, I feel awful after. Like I say, so glad she's OK though. You didn't look out of focus either 💜
accidents happen! you would never hurt your animals on purpose, thanks for being transparent on such a big platform, not many ppl would do that. try not to beat urself up!
I use 2 tongs at a time to move stuff from inside the enclosure because my tarantulas have wild feeding responses haha. Brachypelmas are the worst for hair kicking. Idk what is worse honestly, that genus or Nhandus.
@@kennybolt4337 it’s more that they lace their entire enclosure in hairs to deter predators.. that combined with popular belief (well earned) that they are the the worst. You will never forget the day you get haired 😁
I use a heat pad but I keep it a good distance away,I only use it in winter for my T lives in the basement and it gets cold like 40° and has been lower but the enclosure stays around 70-75,also thanks for all the great info on Ts and care form them
I have to be honest, when tarantula's kick hairs it scares me a ton so I probably would of got scared and accidentally did that too T.T. I'm glad shes ok!
Well done for not editing it out. Luckily she's fine and cork bark isn't that heavy. I had a close shave with my T vagans. I'd recently rehoused her and buried a coconut hide for her to find and dig under. But she got so into digging she dug all the support out and sometime during the night the coconut hide (which I'd hot glued to the sides, then buried) came loose and fell on her. Didn't harm her but she was under that coconut all night. The only reason I found out was because I'm forever checking on her, looking at the progress and saw what had happened. If I'd not checked all week she might have suffocated. Anyway, I dug her up, brushed her off, and she was good as gold, never kicked any hair at all. Now she's back to digging. This time I put the coconut on it's side and made a roof from moss. Moral of the story? Hot glue does not stick well on glass🤣🤣🤣 and stuff like that happens. Still makes you feel guilty though. So kudos for uploading❤️
Before I started filming my Ts, I used to use tongs for the cork bark and had a very similar situation happen. My T was also fine luckily, but it was scary. I felt this in my soul lol.
Hey Kat! Did you see the new arrival tarantula enclosures for aboreal T’s at tarantula cribs? The “clear edition” how much more transparent do you think it is compared to the regular treehouse enclosures?

oh gosh my heart dropped when that cork dropped, that enclosure looks really nice though! I also love the hat! I don't have any rehouses coming up soon so I'll make sure to keep in mind to be careful with cork!
EDIT: Also Valentina molted the other day! has the start of her heart butt mark!
I've only been keeping tarantulas for a year. I also accidentally dropped a piece of corkbark onto my tarantula. He's okay, thank goodness!
I somehow missed this video, good to see Bruja again. Glad shes doing well, beautiful spider.
Hi Kat! Yeah that was scary. I was a little worried when I saw the giant gloves 🧤 on your little hands - 😳
Anyway , glad all is well and that you are honest with your followers.
The way you drop the cork bark🤧🤧🤧 poor spide
Accidents do happen and it's great that you took responsibility and address your mistakes.
So glad she is okay 🥺
Oh sweetie!! Don’t feel guilty about an accident!!! It was an accident and you know this kind of thing just happens! We all know how much you love your Ts and the most important thing is that the tarantula is ok! So, forget about it and just go ahead! You made a wonderful enclosure for her, maybe one of most beautiful seen so far! Much much love to you and your stunning tarantulas ❤️🕷
You are THE BEST ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤍
happy to hear from you always!
@@tarantulakat ❤️❤️❤️
Omg that made my jaw drop. I’m SO glad she turned out okay! I’ll probably stop using tongs to grab cork bark too now that I’ve seen this lol
Yes, I do the same with my hamorii! Works like a charm. She’s a big hairkicker.
@@eightleggedpets2528 its always a good idea to use their instincts as a tool
I've seen this happen on soo many channels you can never be too careful. Invest in a pair of "longlockers" it's adjustable vicegrips and they will save your Ts as well as make your life easier.
It almost seemed like she saw it coming, and dodged at the right time. Glad she’s ok! Definitely a scary scenario.
Hi Kate thanks to your videos I'm less scared. I even saw some at Petco. Kind curious if a fire knee verity is to advance for for a beginner.
I just found an aphonopelma hentzi juvenile death curl at my house. I gave it some water & it had a bit more life to it. So I gave it a inclosure & a water dish. So I hope it will survive! 🕷💜
Was almost like u spanked her butt for being bad lmao glad she's okay tho
My heart 🙄 im so glad she was ok
I said O shit at the same time you did!! Exotics Lair unboxed a tarantula and it's butt looked shaved!!! LoL 😂😆
Oi've decided to name me band The Urticating Hairs.
holy crap tryna give me a heart attack 10 seconds into the intro lmao
accidents happen! you would never hurt your animals on purpose, thanks for being transparent on such a big platform, not many ppl would do that. try not to beat urself up!
I use 2 tongs at a time to move stuff from inside the enclosure because my tarantulas have wild feeding responses haha. Brachypelmas are the worst for hair kicking. Idk what is worse honestly, that genus or Nhandus.
Try a Theraposa sp. 😬😂
@@spotsandstripes2 My strimi is a sweetheart! She never kicked at me yet in the year I had her
@@kennybolt4337 it’s more that they lace their entire enclosure in hairs to deter predators.. that combined with popular belief (well earned) that they are the the worst. You will never forget the day you get haired 😁
tips: don't panic immediately and don't get so much afraid of them urticating hairs... always avoid panicking.
I can’t image what Broha thought. So scared! Hope she is okay. She might like some moss to keep moisture in without wetness. I suggest you watch Dave’s Little Beasties. That guy is a guru.
Good Morning!! From Australia.
good morning Claudia!
I use kitchen tongs. Can’t get a good grip with the tongs even for crickets.
Some wisdom I have heard is that when you feel the safest when doing something is when there is the most risk.
Lol! Christmas in October?
