One of the best pieces of advice ever given to me was, "You don't need to know all the answers. You just need to know where to go to find them." Boat looks good. 💯
I'm tipping there is a fair few people who would be kicking themselves about now, not getting involved in the Kickstarter for this build. This is huge!!!
I'm glad you went the route to have pros do this job Plukky. As a welder I knew it would be a extremely bad idea to try to do this yourself. Not beating you up. I'm excited for you. I like these update videos.
@@teeanahera8949 You can be a very accomplished welder and tack without a shield. I've done it for almost thirty years. The trick is not to look silly. As far as PPE, that is up to the individual or employer. They DO have safety equipment, just choose not to use them. Maybe just settle down a little bit with the insulting part huh? Be responsible for yourself. Trying to mother everybody doesn't really work, and it is not your job.
@@teeanahera8949Standards are a few years behind some of us. Plenty of places in the states not much better. Job quality over worker safety, O right same here regardless of safety progress.
@@teeanahera8949 Most welders all over the world shut their eyes when tacking up. Don't make comments unless you know what you are talking about.
It's an "open shop". Not a "union shop" or "corporate shop".
Safety regulations don't exist. Nor should they. An accomplished, skilled craftsmen should be his own man. I'm an old dog and have been fortunate to have built machines all over the world. I've always been a "hobo" welder. If the inspector is satisfied with my work I can make a decent living anywhere. Personally I wear proper safety gear but I respect those who choose not to or can't afford it. Enjoy the show brother.
Plucky, if you get an eye burn put a slice of potato on your eyes overnight. It works. I have no idea why. Love watching your incredible
life. God bless.
@stevemorgan4702 I just use a very cool wet facecloth or bandanna folded up to about a 2 inch strip wide and place that over your eyes as you are lying down in bed, you might have a damp pillow for most of the night, but you'll feel much better in the morning. You'll be awake awhile before you doze off, just remember to keep it very damp if the moisture drains away too quick.
So exciting! Looks like they have room in there to start one for me.... LoL
These guys are getting it done. Impressive.
I love all the new pressed uniforms 😂
I want a longsleve t-shirt. The Odisea logo, on the back, with the Odisea 48 completed boat under it. On the front is the Odisea 48 skeleton, with a smaller Logo on the pocket... and Sailing into Freedom on the sleeves. It should be in the color of the workers uniform, (off white), and if you have a pullover windbreaker, I want one of those, too.
Dude Idea
you should sell or auction the off cuts from a butt weld from Freedom Too.
Or can I buy one maybe, a piece of that with the plucky/freedom metal stamp on it
That's a great idea
Peter, I am starting to think you'll be on the water much much sooner than originally planned! This is great seeing it from the very start!
The hull is the quickest part of the build normally, just depends on how sophisticated the fit out is.
@@alfredneuman6488 It's all about efficiency when it comes to this boat. It's mainly about how fast it goes with the least amount of energy. There will be no wasted time trying to decide what color the drapes will be, or how many pictures to hang on the walls. Just top efficency PeePo.
@@Day_Tripper39 Since when did you get in Plukky's brain? Or have you been employed by him as his mouth piece? Are you a boat builder? Have you seen the plans and privy to the engineering behind them?
Ready by Christmas
Hurry Puckky , Lisa and pineapples await you !!
Peter, we call them " run on/run off" plates nearly always used for FSBW ( full strength butt weld ). Obviously, other people and places will call them something else, sometimes they are longer and the run on and off are longer as well , depending on how thick the parent metal thickness is and to help absorb heat , so that the weld at edges that isnt ground away will have the same contour throughout the needed length of the weld. As the multiple passes get laid down, those little run on/off plates can become very very hot , much more than the parent metal as the heat has nowhere else to expand too, because of the limitations of the end of the plate. Sometimes a too shorter of a run on/off plate can get too hot too quick and therefore the weld contour can not always have same vertical profile at the ends of the needed weld as the centre of the weld, therefore requiring uneven extra build up at both ends resulting in an ugly appearance and possible weld defects, or a grind out ordered by the inspector.
Exactly what i said pfffff. Thanks my friend. Please keep commenting. We all need to know this and good people like yourself take the time to educate. Well done. I look forward to your next comment my friend
Just saying Plucky, you’ve pulled me back to the channel. Cheers mate.
Around the world we go! Bet she'll fly
So, we will see a splash video in a week or two then! ;) ... moving fast!
Nothing but quality people!
Can't believe they already have the bulkheads done. I think they work a lot faster when you're there watching them.
I think they work just as fast when he's not there. But they do seem excited to be a major part of the "Sailing Into Freedom" channel, going forward! I think Plukky should think of them just like part of his crew on his old boat...get to know them, even their off-time... rocking ton's of great Plukky content.
Water boils quicker when watched in Vietnam
I love how one of the welder's attempts to close his eyes for each tack weld. I've watched all the videos but I don't recall hearing the predicted completion date for this build?
Welding by braille is always a good choice! Nothing but quality ppl!!
if you tried to do this on a property or in the boonies with a few helpers, you'd still be clearing, levelling and getting the strong back, lofting table (no cnc cut-outs for you) shelter up and figuring power and material delivery and storage out, at 3 months you'd still be cutting and reinforcing those bulkheads and 6 months maybe a few have gone up and you've put several fist sized dints in the welders case as warping is slowing you down to a crawl and you start crowdfunding for 5 welders. You're applying all your resources with uber efficiency, and its just brilliant to watch skilled people do quality work quickly with confidence. it really is nothin but quality
Enjoying watching the build, AWESOME workshop with gantry crane and ALL. SOOOOOO cool, just make sure all and I mean ALL your electrical systems are electrically isolated from the Hull and Mast, get a few big buckets of tefgel
More great progress Peter, very professional team on the build.
Cap'n your exactly right about learning! I was told many years ago, I you don't learn something every day, then that day was a waste. It's true. 🙏❤🇺🇸🇸🇭⛵👣🤗🍍🍍🍍🍍🍍
Wow. pretty incredible. And I only had to pay $25 to see all this. Cool !
Actually Patreon/paypaller/kickstarter ONLY video will be released this week. I WILL TRY TO DO 2 EXCLUSIVE VIDEOS A MONTH BUT I MAY DO 4 IF I GET ENOUGH PEOPLE IN BOARD
That weld quality is outstanding, had an aluminium fuel tank repaired this year understanding the material properties and welding skill needed for quality work.
Awesome work by the team there. Very happy for you Peter
This that and mote awsome😊 stuff people!!!
The tabs are great!
Great ! They work fast, exciting..
She's coming along swimmingly. Fantabulous!! 🤗💞
Good to see the early part of the build. Nice one Plukky 🙂
Taking shape nicely. Looking good.
Great progress and I love the work ethic of these builders. You can tell they love what they do! Awesome to see the quality that is going into this build. And yes, Peter please protect your eyes.
Man, these guys are racing ahead. Good stuff!
Plukky, I can't believe they let you wander around on the construction floor. Very interesting to see the behind the scenes on a different kind of construction. Thx
Great video its all coming along
Nothing but quality from these guys. You must have n middle name Odisea, Plukky.
I think they work just as fast when he's not there. But they do seem excited to be a major part of the "Sailing Into Freedom" channel, going forward! I think Plukky should think of them just like part of his crew on his old boat...get to know them, even their off-time... rocking ton's of great Plukky content. Serious!
Keep it up bro 💪🏽
This team of boat builders are awesome
Awesome…The captain and the crew is getting it done. Bravo
I think it’s critical for a man of your on the fly repair skills to watch it being made so you can fix it if your in a pinch.👍🇺🇸🇦🇺
So happy for you Plukky and the Odisea team. :o)
Certainly going heaps quicker than in that one family business where the Mumby Jupiter 2 was built. Amazing
Interesting point about the aluminium hammer. Never thought of that.
Plucky, those little plates are called Run Off Plates. To avoid worm hole cracks in the start and finish of the weld seam.
Yep, they also help with distortion and any loss of material on that edge. That's a pro trick.
Looks great, enjoying the details, nothing but quality
I like the inclusion of detail such as the welding spec. Fun to watch this build get going.
That weld at 10;48 Was so green.
Awesome. It looked like some of the workers were looking to have you ask them some silly questions and hear some humor with some praise when they were going on lunch break. Vietnamese are great folks...lots of fun.
They’re getting it done!
The extra pieces to make the wield strong to the end is interesting.
There seems to be a hive of activity and the guys know what they are doing . Great to see the progress
Have to love the Safety Squints!
Amazing. Plukky if you wear glasses you can’t get what we call a « flash « in your eyes. A flash is painfull , it is like having sand in your eyes. Project looking good.
Wow, the acceleration of the performance catamaran build is truly impressive! It's clear that these guys are getting it done and seeing the progress is absolutely amazing. Plukky, it's great to see the updates on the construction process. Keep up the great work, team! The hull will be built in no time! 😮
Absolutely lightning speed. I think this one will be the fastest of the three new boats, one I believe in China, two including yours in Vietnam. And also more detail re construction of an aluminum boat than ever. Regarding this round the world thing, would you be using the Capes ? Have you seen much of the GGR ? And one final question, tell me about the welding glasses they are using ?
Will find out my friend
Don't know the route yet. Will depend on people joining up
...capessss...mmmm...@@SAILINGintoFREEDOM
Two bucket of Freedom
There ya go Pluck thats got a nice ring to it.
Your welcome
Love it, Love it, love it!!! Looks like attention to detail is standard for these guys. Awesome!
Yeah right on , we’re all happy for you brother would just like to know how you pulled it off?
How much did it cost?😊
Great work from the team! Hull will be built in no time 😮
Very solid approach to building an aluminium boat.
Gonna be sailing the 7 seas in no time
She will be the strongest Cat ever. Omg so awesome very impressive 🎉
nothing but quality people!!
looks like a great crew working on the boat high quality craftmanship.
that 'crew' is definitely Top Stuff peopo!
Keep the updates flowing
Cheers again from Canada, Plukky...
As a journeyman carpenter, I 've always been a fan of having some knowledge of all the various trades.
Watching the aluminum welding progress, and process, is fascinating to me. Very impressed with the method of over- welding by 25 mm onto tabs! It seems your new vessel is built to extremely high parameters. Very good on ya, Plukky.
Cheers, and looking forward to more videos😊
Yep, same principle we do in fine woodworking when having sacrificial wood behind the down cut on saws and routers ... raser sharp and solid edges.
It's happening!
Continuing the weld beyond the termination of the joint. Interesting. Learning is indeed not by facts and figures, but by trial and error..
Cannot wait to see this finished, Peter
As a qualified metal fabricator with experience in steel truck bodies, oil rigs, aluminium radiators and boats etc. I'd be happy to sail in their aluminium catamaran.
Keeping up standards and cleanliness. Might just need to buy a few weldibg screens to stop "some" of the welding flash spreading. Still walking around your going to get stung.
Worst is when your concentrating on a job and its getting you with reflection or in the corner of your eye. Thats how ive ended up with tomatoe slices resting on my eye lids with eye drops in lol
Potato slices
@@teeanahera8949 It happens when I was an apprentice at a run of the mill fabrication shop it was the norm. You'll find they will put sunscreen on before starting work particularly on the back of their eye lids. As they get the brunt of the ray burn when you close your eyes. Amplified by the fact you normally don't have your eyes closed when your in the sun.
Great project and epic progress! The guys welding should wear and use sunglasses if not a welders mask! If your having flashes what is the welder seeing?

The more we learn about any subject , the more we realise we do not know that subject . That does not mean our learning has been wasted , far from it , but it does mean we now appreciate how much more we could learn , if we wanted or needed to , about that subject , skill , whatever . Peter is right , having specialised in a subject a person can realise a route to another subject . I doubt that anyone can master all the subjects , but some can master a few and the very wise can master subjects that actually benefit themselves and their society .
Well done on that subject
Very different from all the videos of epoxy and glass. I like it.
Shure is a bare bones start up. Love your work ethic!!
It's really coming together.
It would also be great to have a brief look at the facility where the parts are cut.
Thank you for letting us participate in the construction in a timely manner, Plukky!
Shall do Albert. Its about 2 hours away ans 3 hours by public transport but will try to get there for you
Love this technical boat building stuff. Especially interested in aluminum.
@ 8:50 Hey Plukky, in the trade we call those run off plates. So you get a nice full weld.
great to see it coming along peter, more pwer to your elbow mate
LOVE seeing the work. These guys seem to do very good work too.
Man, that's looking great, Peter! Makes me wanna build sruff!
Awesome plucky. Tuned out for a bit as thought it was never gonna happen. Awesome decision to go there. Congratulations
That weld detail at 9 mins is exactly how it should be done. And can you believe it, it actually has to do with the heat transfer.. Who could have known?
Im a woodworkman but i have to atmit this looks satisfying!
Wow, these guys seem to be moving right along. Your insight into university is correct. But in today's day and time in the USA, at least. Professors feel the need to not teach how to think but what to think. I hope this turns around before my grandkids go to college. I hope they don't go to college but to a trade school instead just to avoid that crap.
And another watch through. Just can't help myself. :o)
Looking good 👍
nice work Puki. ..well, the welders are also doing an ok work.:)
Amazing work. Watching that tacking if your eyes feel like you have sand in them scratching... It takes a few hours to happen.. Be safe bud ~
Hey Plukky, I hope your sponsors come through on time for you to sail her away when she's ready.
Keep em coming this is fantastic to watch !!!! awesome job.. So Odesea have taken your inspiration and are making their first foray into building a whole boat am I right? Im loving this Man so cool love from Perth!!
Real quality stuff here in this video keep up the good work Jeff the Navy vet
Wow,things are going fast
Thanks for the update coming along nicely.
So cool..Thank you Plukky. 😊
Loving this series awesome stuff 🎉
Framing goes pretty quickly, even getting the skin on doesn't take very long when you have a crew working together. But getting the shell completed is still only 25 to 30% of the completed boat. Hang in there, you're on your way and we are sailing with you.
You can't say things like that.
You will upset the non boat builders who think the boat will be completed in a few months the rate it seems to be going now.
Hahahaha! @@alfredneuman6488
Pete this is sensational content well done your narration is really on point great job
You are benefiting from quality control instilled in ship building
