    High rolling is fun. Had a game where I rolled into double open hex settle on the second orbit. Sometimes the game is 100% luck based.

      @@Jezerezeh high rolling = rolling well, a hex is a 3 tile spot so one of the spots you settle on during selection, on open boards where the desert tile is near the coast there will be some open, orbit is one round where everyone gets a turn. So essentially after selection i had a road pointing in which there were two open hexes where i only had to build one more to each of them. I had coordinated roads so lets say a 4 brick and a 4 wood. I rolled them 4 times in two orbits and also rolled two wheat and two sheep. This meant I had 4 wood 4 brick 2 sheep and 2 wheat and could place a road and settle on both of the open hexes in one turn. So while everyone had 2 hexes I had 4. Essentially winning the game on the spot.

    I think in the second game you need to baby feed to the table that 4 devs = army and either 1 or 2 more points via vps or a mono or yop for city. Explain that they’re already on 5 pts, with mono, yop, or 7 with vps. Low elo players only understand points. Best case they’re on 5 with 4 knights but they are never blocked with that utility but that’s harder to explain to bad players.

    • @JohnSmithEx
      @JohnSmithEx 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Yea, but Dylan was too focused on proposing greedy trades, and not giving 2:1 to anyone for the card that he wanted. If I am not mistaken he secured just one trade the whole game, while Black was trading freely. Black was willing to trade even 4:1 for the card that they needed (26:51). If you want to make alliances with the lesser opponents, you can't be greedy on each and every trade.

    games like the second one make me want to quit playing online catan. black was ahead literally every single turn of the entire game and the other two players didnt even realize in the end. incredibly frustrating. massive props for keeping relatively cool, dylan! as a long time watcher, i feel like you've matured and it made you an even stronger player! glad you are starting to enjoy the game again, and best of luck!

    • @JohnSmithEx
      @JohnSmithEx 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      How about the first game? Doesn't it make you want to quit Catan? Imagine being one of the other three players, being steamrolled by Dylan's exceptional luck. Not much fun, isn't it? At least in the second game Dylan, having a deceptively dominant position, had a chance to change the other player's perception about who is the real leader. Apparently he didn't make a good job at doing so.
      Playing against lower rated opponents is generally beneficial, because it increases your chances of winning as a better player. So I don't buy the crocodilian tears of players who complain that their opponents are not good enough at the game. Would you really prefer to play against players who have a perfect understanding of the game, track precisely your cards, and are masters in psychology and statistics? Good luck getting a win against such players!

    • @ddddddbingbong
      @ddddddbingbong 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      it’s understandable that they thought Dylan was ahead, he did have a city and settle before black settled. Unlucky that it happened and that he couldn’t get better trades, but also he could have tried to pace slower or feed devs to blue. In a funny way, the 11 rolling a bunch early helped him get the city but really hurt with the pacing

      He asked his opponent if they are stupid. Which is a strange question for three reasons:
      1. Stupid people typically are not aware that they are stupid.
      2. Neither a Yes nor a No answer is valuable, because you can't trust the answer of a potentially stupid person.
      3. The opponent can't hear him, because they are not in the same room.
      So what's the point of asking questions to persons who don't know the answer, you can't trust their answer, and they can't even hear your question?

    Interesting question about placements.
    Difference between 3611 vs 3611 in how that affects placements about 11 wheat. And play toward the 2:1 wood port.
    While your placement defends an opportunity to have longest road. Between your first two settlements.
    Wonder if risk of leaving 31011 as target 2 for development is ultimately better for orange placement.
    Problem orange has is not getting to 269. To feed the wheat port.

    At 26:30 I think not porting the brick for a wheat/sheep was an inaccuracy, since you have 6 cards and the 5 wheat is blocked and there Are 6 devs in your opponent hand (play around a potential brick Momo). What do you think?

  • @JohnSmithEx

    0:15 "This is a pretty heavy ore board."
    The average board has 9.66 pips of ore, and this board has 9, so numerically the ore is slightly below average. But since the big ore tiles are centralized, it might be right to say that the ore is pretty heavy, because all players will start with a settlement on ore.

    • @Funglutton
      @Funglutton 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I actually would have loaded straight to the 4/11 Ore/Sheep, since it means:
      1. You are 1 less road away from the Brick port
      2. You secure an extra settle
      3. You avoid hitting 5 roads, but still have a road play
      The main downsides are delaying extra Ore and the 3:1 port. But securing the Brick port instead with an extra settle spot seems pretty huge.
      [Edit] Made this comment before seeing how it panned out. But seems like wrapping around the 11 Ore was worth it for the opportunity of snagging the Brick port.

    • @Funglutton
      @Funglutton 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@alexandernater6284interesting you say this. There's a point that Black gives 4 cards for a Wheat. I noticed that 2 of these were Brick. I think Black was trying to deny the Brick port from Dylan with this trade, while also getting themselves a settle.

    • @momoaa

      @@pdy86 i meant 3 10 11, he intentionally placed to block that placement. Black with 3 10 11 gets access to every resource with the best OWS in the game, and then because theres infinite space in the middle can go to 11 9 4 and 6 9 for free anyways and autowin

    • @Uberude
      @Uberude 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It was a bad move because it opened the door for black to get on the 96, making him crush the game even harder. In fact, black won by such a margin that it doesn't matter if one of orange or dylighted had more points than the other, neither was remotely close to winning.

    • @alexandernater6284
      @alexandernater6284 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Who cares on how many point you end the game? Fortunately, the tank doesn't matter for ELO. Orange never had a chance to win against black and leaving that 9-6 open is just so bad.

    • @Boscosuniform
      @Boscosuniform 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In Catan, only who wins really matter tbh

    • @JohnSmithEx
      @JohnSmithEx 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@alexandernater6284 if Orange never had a chance to win, then they could do nothing that qualifies as a mistake. A player makes a mistake when they harm their own chances of winning, not when they harm Dylan's chances of winning. Assuming that a player can't win, then they can do nothing to harm their own chances of winning (because it's already 0%), so they can't make a mistake.
      Orange's plan was probably to capitalize on the wheat port. After building on the port they could go back and build on the 6 wheat tile, and be on three huge wheat tiles with the 2:1 port. For their plan to succeed they needed lots of 8s and 5s, and unfortunately for them the 8 and 5 rolled only five times the whole game each (stats at 30:41). Orange's plan was not bad, and they definitely had decent chances of winning the game, if the dice was more favorable to them.

    • @JohnSmithEx
      @JohnSmithEx 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Boscosuniform well, it depends. There are tournaments where points are important, and players who can't win still do their best to grab as many points as possible.
