Please keep the videos coming MR ideal man , have watched all the videos you have sent Allen and every time I come away with a clear understanding of what your trying to get across .. Cannot express highly enough how great I think your videos are . Thank you so much and keep up the great work Allen
P.S This is the type of stuff that should be being taught on the courses ! Ideal, vaillant , baxi take note, not saying you're bad, but this is the real fault finding stuff that lads need to know .. 🙌🏼
Allen, "WTF" pet hair compromising a new boiler. I have had loads of the old dust problems with gas fire oxypilots but never thought a cat could stop a boiler. Please keep this great gas engineer onboard.
Great video, thank you for taking the time out of your life to help others. For those who don’t appreciate your efforts then they should just look elsewhere.
Don't ever stop sharing the information you have Kev. Excellent tutorials and never boring, great diagram btw 😉. Thank you Allen for bringing a great Team together and sharing their wealth of knowledge 👍.
Not boring at all. It's what we are here for. Should be common knowledge really. Back in the day, for example, we all knew what a thermocouple output voltage was expected to be. Thank you.
Great video. I really enjoyed this. One question I have is. The fan ,burner, gas valve/ venture, flue, and case are all sealed. How can the cat hair get into the fan in the first place . The only way I can see this happening is if the cat slept outside next to the flue and the boiler sucked it into the air intake ?
Mr Ideal your'e on the right track Engineering is all about the detail, listen carefully and absorb the information, because one day it might just be needed to get out of a fix and if not it still helps to build the bigger picture of what is actually happening inside the appliance, thanks.
Real world fault finding, top man Mr I, thanks for sharing and hope you take some satisfaction from knowing the help you give to many. Stay safe fella and again thank you.
Just wondering that if you haven’t got a micro amp scale on your multi meter can you set to milli amps and convert the reading or will you not get a correct reading …..thanks 👍
Used in conjuction with your vid and a gas rate check you'll find this issue for sure, it could completely throw your gas analyser into an absolute emergency situation too as combustion process will be completely incomplete I'm sure..thank you for your time and enlightening vids..invaluable!!
Yeah it would. I’m a British Gas engineer. Every service on a pre mix burner had to be gas rated. If it was 10% below or 5% above the kw rating of the appliance then we’d have to investigate why. ANY kind of restriction of the gas - undersized gas pipe, blocked injector, burner would cause this.
I had this exact fault a few months back, pulling my hair out with it, rang technical loads of times, went through everything you said, before I gave up and put it down to main heat exchanger being blocked and unable to clear, so in went a new unit. Wish I had seen this before
That is a brilliant fitting to push onto the gas nipple, where did you get it? This is such an AMAZING vid, he takes his time to explain things, he doesn't rush. More of his vids on your channel would be such a great addition.
quick question, if the burner baffle was blocked, wouldn't gas rating show this as well? i'm thinking the fan will struggle to suck up the gas from gas valve and push the gas air mixer through the burner baffle?
I’ve got an f2 fault on a independent 35. Tried this and my reading are way higher than these rather than lower. What could that be? Really stuck with this, boiler has been stripped and double checked. Any help appreciated
Yet again a great video mr ideal as I'm having a problem with a ES 35 gas consumption incorrect on central heating its correct 24 kw 2.55 m3h but on max I'm only getting 2.2 m3h yet 19mbar inlet pressure checked benchmark and installer when new had the same readings boiler was just serviced only 6 years old any ideas new gas valve or should I do the test and check the micro amps . Cheers
If your doing it on service mode max in heating again getting 24kw, that is fine as it stays in max, if your suggesting that on hot water you can’t achieve the rating you require it may be because the heat ex has reached temperature and the thermistor is modulating it down, and if the boiler and all the outlets are functioning correctly I would not concern yourself too much, unless it is causing a problem.
I would probably say ‘ I doubt it, but I have not tried tbh, although being in my position o wouldn’t try because I would just get a new one off the van rather than waste time. But if you do happen to try let me know. 😂
@@kevincranfield5235 i will try next time i come across it and let you know if it works.. or not. Thans for your time and effort making these videos, as a former manufacturers eng doing the same job as you, ive learned something from then and can tell you would make a good trainer
Fabulous video priceless information believe me especially last job on a Friday evening. Is it a must to change the main heat exchanger gasket when burner has been removed?
Not if it’s in good condition, if it’s really flat and turning white then I would, I usually give them 3-4 years maximum before I replace. But it’s your call really
Amazing video , if it’s a blocked burner then there would have been poor performance on the heating side aswell , am I right ? I miss this guys video’s, he’s the best😊
Don't ever under value your knowledge buddy. I have been doing this for over 45 years and every days is a school day. Appreciate the background to the problem and the solution.
Ideal logic + heat 12 incomplete combustion on service low fire but fine on high. I striped serviced the boiler but same issue, it is also making a loud whistling and rumbling noise on low fire service mode. I flushed the heat exchanger, cleaned out the condense, cleaned the Venturi and injector but no luck. I changed the gas valve and also tried a new injector but still no luck. The next option is the the burner top unless anyone else has any ideas?
3yr Old Ideal Logic Rumble at low Burn... Injector fully cleaned. Venturi tube cleaned. New Burner fitted. New Gas Valve fitted. Main Heat Exchanger Flushed through/Cleaned from above with Burner removed. ....and its still rumbling at low burn! After years of dealing with this issue on the Ideal Logic Range I've found it's basically Pot luck as to which of the above remedies the rumble at low burn but nothing has cured this one. I've found If you partially restrict the air flow through the venturi the rumble stops everytime
I’ve got a few like this currently got one rumbling badly. Changed the same parts as you and a new flue. Then day two working pressure is low. Sgn are doing a new supply and governor. Will see what happens next week
This is great video ! ive got customer with very similar problem and after 2 visits and even consulting Ideal technical i could not find the problem. will try this. I just wonder if its possible to wash burner and clean or do i need a new one?
Mr Ideal, Ignore the tw#ts ! i'm long in the trade ( 40 yrs soon) and like Allen, ALWAYS learn something from your comprehensive videos, so thank-you for taking the time. A question for you, have you ever gas rated a blocked logic burner and if so what was the outcome?? (in comparison to the micro amps) Cheers. :-)
I’m sorry pal I can’t really help you with that one, I only really ever gas rate the appliance when I’ve finished either servicing it or repairing it, I don’t think I’ve ever done one whilst in the middle of a job.
@@kevincranfield5235 No worries, thanks for the reply. I sometimes gas rate during fault finding and find it useful for pointing me in the right direction.
Makes a lot of sense. The MI's seldom give the correct solution. Most faults I attend have been dirty boilers due to lack of proper servicing by the big players. 10 minutes and £25 to the engineers is not a service.
Good things always take time to get across, a good teacher always thinks of all the students. Many thanks for that really useful indeed. Rwgards THE GAS WIZARDZ
That wouldn’t work, the differences may be negligible on a gas rate. Also it may tell you that there is an issue with volume consumption but it would not tell you whether it was the burrner, injector, gas valve or even supply pipe. So a gas rate would not help sorry.
Not boring at all. You've provided a new insight into fault finding one of those faults sent to drive you mad. Thank you Mr Ideal, and Allen.

Would a blocked burner cause the gas rate to be low on maximum output and cause a droning noise on ignition?
Yeah it would. I’m a British Gas engineer. Every service on a pre mix burner had to be gas rated. If it was 10% below or 5% above the kw rating of the appliance then we’d have to investigate why. ANY kind of restriction of the gas - undersized gas pipe, blocked injector, burner would cause this.

How does a cat's hair get in there? This is a room sealed appliance
i said it in the vidoe. the cat had clawed the rubber bung off the flue where you test the O2.
