      +hisenbred rakiman Standing is a sign of respect in most cultures. I was taught to stand whenever a guest entered the room or joined the table and certainly when shaking hands. Unfortunately it's not done enough today. This chef is a true gentleman. 👍

    Uyghur cuisine the really deserve your attention. If you hear about it for the first time, you need to try it asap. I grew up near to Moscow, and things like Lagman or Samsa, or just spices from central-Asian region so familiar, and usual enough just like orthodox Russian food. Just for analogy, Lagman it's a Ramen on steroids, with deep taste from flavor of original spices, yammy!

      I agree. The last time I've tried Uyghur food was two years ago when I was visiting Beijing in the summer. However, at that time, all I ate was some lamb kebabs, vegetables, 丁丁炒面、and some kind of meat that I had no idea what it was. I absolutely must try Uyghur food someday. I'm talking about 大盘鸡 (Although it's originally a Hui dish)、洋肉串、 抓饭、丁丁炒面、拉面、烤包子、and more.

      Bro, my Indian friend told me about how certain parts of their region have added Muslim cooking.
      It sounded super cool, because it’s like Fusion food, except hundreds if not a thousand years before the concept of “fusion” food was coined.
      Today I’ve just learned about Uyghur culture, and it definitely reminded me of the talk I’ve had with my friend.
      I wish we’d learn more about these kind of stories, this is super cool and inspiring how different cultures could do-exist together… definitely something we all could learn from!

    It's actually kinda sad that despite having a population of 30 million strong, it's almost negligible in the face of a country of 1.3 billion people, and given that they're mostly located in one state, they're literally sidelined by the rest of the Chinese population on the far east. They have a distinct & fascinating culture and I wish they could've a chance to express it more.

      well in the end, It's everyone's own responsibility to express themeslves, and they are actually given ALOT of chances too, all minority culture are heavily represented in Chinese state media, plus it's literally easier for them to get into good univerisity in China just based on their background,, alot of celebrities (Tong liya, Dilraba Dilmurat) are also of minor ethnic descent.

      @njuvanrui2951 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Just say Uyghur or Uighur, then it is ok, it serves the purpose of being used as an adjective too; one's adding '-ian' and surfacing 'Uyghurian' provokes the unnecessary risk of redundancy and sounding eerie if not incorrect at all...therefore it is highly recommended that one could actually consider dropping it.

      It's because many regions of Chinese food are not recognized by Americans and therefore don't have any business opportunity. You won't find Hui halal food either, along with any Northeastern cuisine (essentially the "soul food" of China). Lu cuisine, the dominant cuisine in China, doesn't make much of an appearance either. Usually you hear about Sichuan, Cantonese, Shanghainese food, which are big cuisines but they are all in the south and thus rice-based. The lack of northern food is so serious that ramen-style dishes are very rarely thought of as Chinese, despite the dish having its origin and etymology from lamian. You wouldn't even know that "lanzhou lamian" is super ubiquitous across China. Hell, basic staples like mantou, baozi, bing and many kinds of noodles simply are absent in the US - so absent that I literally can't translate "bing" without it seeming really wrong (pancake, though it is similar to a highly layered wheat flour tortilla).
      The equivalent is as if Americans thought Italian food had only noodles - no pizza or rice. It's really bizarre.

    My mom tells me all the time that she misses eating dapanji back in Xinjiang. There aren’t any Uyghur restaurants where we live in America so I still haven’t tried it yet.

      Mindplague you should search “xin Jiang” or “Lanzhou” or “north west Chinese food” instead, things like big dishes chicken and lamb kabab are common dishes. Just not that much middle eastern dish.

    Uyghur people are like a mix of Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan...I mean their appearances, culture, clothes, food... It's so fascinating! 🤩
    But of course, you can see their Chinese physical traits as well as the food influence...
