The little mess and algee are precisely what this couple saw as possible micro food for their babies and motivated them to breed in this beautiful home that you provided for them!! Just the most beautiful home for rams I’ve ever seen in you tube so far!!👍👍✌️🤓
Thanks Oliver. Those are in fact the best ones I got so far. However the planted tank helps a lot because I just moved a couple to the other tank and since I have sand, they lost a bit the color... Maybe they will get back to this coloration again as soon the tank matures and they decide to breed once again.
What gorgeous German Blue Rams you have! That's why they are my favorite fish. Tank is beautiful as well. I wish you the best with that huge batch of fry! The parents are certainly doing their job well!
And I have more Rams too... Plus some Nannostomus. This couple is definitely take this so serious, even when I had discus for 9 years I haven't seen such behavior.
We've been lucky enough to have had our Bolivian Rams do the same in our planted 75g. We used a turkey baster to transport the tiny baby fries into their own 29g planted with their parents to lessen the stress level. The separate tank allowed then to grow in safe environment with their loving parents! Get yourself some decapsulated brine shrimp and Hikari first bites, they make awesome food for the fries, if you don't want the extra work of hatching brine shrimp! Congratulations and best of luck!
I'm giving them some liquid artemia. The biggest issue is that after a few days they start to be difficult to handle by the parents. I already moved one of the couples to the kitchen tank, now at least one couple can breed without having predators around. Let's see what happens.
Filipe Oliveira, one thing to watch out for...one of our breeding pairs, the young mother actually ate the week old fry overnight. If you find that the father is being slightly aggressive to the female, that is a red flag, so remove her immediately!
That didn't happen, both couples were taking good care of the fries. Both because each pair had fries in 4 days in between. Now I can't see them anymore, no idea if they went to the stem plants... Just found yesterday while I was doing a slight trimming some fries of Nannostomus too (those a bit big and of the size of Rasboras Brigittae), maybe I will have luck in get some rams too...
They are absolutely lovely.. and any fish that is lucky enough to live in you're beautiful aquascapes... They have to be the happiest fish ever. And that is very evident because what a beautiful batch of fry! What an amazing Father's Day gift these beautiful fish gave you! I hope you have a very nice weekend and a very Happy Father's Day!! I look forward to updates! 👍🐟😍✌️
Let's see what happens... They are less and less each day. The morning is always tough when they wake up. Parents spend a tough time in keep them in place. The other couple breed too and those are more protected.
That aquarium looks spectacular. The livestock look healthy. You have always done great videos. Even from your South American days. I enjoyed watching! Thank you for sharing!
Congratulations Filipe, you are lucky to witness these beautiful Rams to breed in your splendid aquarium. When your fishes are breeding, it shows how wonderfully you maintain the upkeep of your tanks, hope and pray that some of the fries survives and reach their adulthood. Stay safe take care...
Thanks a lot! I just moved one of the couples to the kitchen tank, I just hope they continue breeding there. The other couple has now more space and maybe they can keep the fries for a while. Since it's their first time breeding and behaving so great, I believe that will be a question of time to have some success!!!
Congrats on your new brood! Hopefully some of them survive. There's a good chance since the tank is so dense with lots of places to hide. Maybe put up some barrier to keep the other fish out of the kid's area? Maybe netting?
Very difficult to add something to protect... If they can't handle it for the first time, more will come. No rush. The eggs of the other couple will hatch soon too and those I guess will have more chance to survive because they laid their eggs just in the middle of the stem plants.

I don't have red German rams... That doesn't exist. Those are German Blue with very intense red on the head and fins. The tank, decoration and choice of plants do a huge difference in their colors.
The water is still filtered in the same way. I just add that metallic piece that doesn't allow to suck the fish and I'm feeding them with liquid artemia.
At this moment I can't find them anymore... No ideia if they went to the stem plants bush and they are hide... The other couple had fries in 4 days in between and happened too. Yesterday when I did a slight trimming on stem plants I found fry of Nannostomus beckfordi already grown-up and almost the size of my Rasboras Brigittae... Hopefully some will survive.
I love the way you care for the baby fish. Kudos to you..👍🏼 Plants can always be taken care of later. Given your expertise, algae will go away very soon.
It is so rewarding when something like this happens. So precious. I think in Aquascaping we focus to much on design and plant health. I am seriously considering to start keeping dwarf cichlids in my aquascapes now but I know I will gradually lose or never see any shrimp.
Shrimps and dwarf cichlids is not a good idea... When they don't fit at once in the mouth, they will share the dinner. So far everything is perfect, but I will end up to be really upset if for some reason they decide to eat them... That is a possibility. Parents are doing an amazing job, but from one moment to another they can eat them all. So fingers crossed. Now I have another problem in hands, the other couple laid eggs and other fish don't know where to hide. Well... Too stressful for me 😅
If things go wrong... While the other couple take care of the fry, I will move these one to the new tank. Hopefully they will end up to succeed. But first I need to finish the other scape by tomorrow.
I use tap water on my scapes, so they aren't that sensitive... Of course if your water has some chlorine and chloramines can be an issue. I usually do a partial water change of 50% on my tanks, but in the breeding tank I was doing 50% every next day.

You might add 2 temporary saucer or shallow cups, orp flat rocks so the parents have little places to place them. No flat rocks, no saucers....that's what they tend to use for little bounded spaces for babies. Sera Micron food tends to be the first for my fry, then vinegar eels or microworms, then baby brine shrimp. Also if you are feeding bacter ae to shrimp in tank, it will also feed the micro crustaceans the fry can eat. Good luck and thank you for sharing these beautiful images. It's funny how you think "I don't care if I get fry or not , thats not my goal" and then it's pressure when they are suddenly there....
We need to be realistic... It's their first time and this tank was not prepared for this. Also there are a lot of fish inside that are establishing territory and being aggressive... It's true that they have plenty of space to hide, but I don't expect success just at first attempt. Maybe the other couple has more success because they laid their eggs just in the middle of stem plants. Fry will be more protected 😉
The first ones disappeared... And the second batch too... No idea if they went into the bushes of plants. Since I saw some grown-up fry of Nannostomus beckfordi, it's possible some of them will survive even without feeding them with something extra.
How can you even keep blue rams with plants ? in my area this fish are so sensitive to nitrates that cant have in a planted tank without checking every day for nitrates and making water changes twice a week
My rams had babies today! But I need your help. It's night, I need to turn the lights off but when I do the babies scatter all over the tank and the other ram in the tank eats the fry. I will leave the light on tonight so the parents can can keep track of where their babies are and protect them from the other ram but I need a better solution. But if they got till the fry are swimming, next time vaccum them in put in some Nano tank with some sponge to protect the filter. They will be OK. Then feeding with Nova Tom from JBL.

If I can keep them... Will be tough for now. It's their first breeding and more will come 😉
