Good luck, Mark! We replaced ours shortly after we moved here & it's a lot more of a drama than it seems - I think the lessons I learned (not being local!) is that a new kitchen in Australia is a gut-job; 2, do as you have done (if you can!) clear the space & try to really imagine working it, draw the units on the floor & don't try to over stuff the space & don't skimp on space; 3, think about the kitchen in relation to the entire house - getting the walls & floors up is a huge, filthy job, but fitting it out is relatively easy (after all it's probably not you going to be doing it!) - I really wish now that I'd not been so 'cheap' thinking I had to kind of stick with how it was, you've done the right thing with demoing all the walls & opening up the space & then rebuilding it as you want. - Now we want to sort the bathroom, but really it probably means rejigging the kitchen entry... Hmmm... You're right you can't have enough power points except around water. Just wonder if your Butler's is going to be big enough for all you want it to do, once you get the sink & appliances in? Drawers in the kitchen are SO much easier than bending-over-to-reach cupboards! So worth the extra for those wethinks! Smooth sailing, glad you've found a builder & joiner - the demo is probably the worst part, so you should soon be cooking with gas!
Nice, I recently did my kitchen and walk-in pantry. I put in two ovens, huge gas cooktop and heaps of power points. My only regret was I should have put in a larger kitchen sink with draining trays on both sides of the tub. 20 years I had been thinking about what I wanted, it all takes time.
I will watch the transformation with envy and excitement for your family. We are planning a modest remodel this year. I'll be watching for ideas. The butlers pantry is a dream of mine but won't happen here. But I shall live vicariously through you. 😂
Just an idea Mark, what about putting the center Island on the left in the middle of the room on wheels so it can be moved for convenience, I put mine on wheels, best thing I did. Seeya Rob.....................and if it doesn't work out, take them off, simple.
Congrats on getting the new kitchen and pantry! I enjoy your videos a lot, and you have taught me quite a bit about gardening along the way! Thank you for the interesting and informative videos, and I cannot wait to see that new renovation when it is finished!
Dear Mark, I'm watching your live thing, and you expressed reservations about using aspirin. The reason for this is because of its relationship with willow. Willow is full of root-productive hormones. So . . . that's why often putting an asprin in the water of cut flowers is recommended. Cheers, Kerry.
Great video Mark! Just a thought if you want to get a feel for how it will "feel and look once done BEFORE it goes in you can always stack up a load of removal boxes in the areas you plan to have units (floor level at least up to waist height to you can feel if it'll be the right size or too cramped too much space etc etc just an idea before they go in, as you can move em around just to see if you want to make any adjustments or changes before it's in PROPERLY!!) Just thought of it as you got a big space there so possibly hard to imagine with the units all in etc.. Great video! 👍🏴
Congratulations! It’s so wonderful to see happy things happening for people, and you sir are a joy to watch. :). Also, seeing the build process on this channel would be awesome, if you’re inclined to share more- it’s so fun following how things change as parts are added in. As an American I also learned a few words! Instead of “power points” we say “wall outlets”, also we call “benches” = countertops...at least I think I’m understanding what you meant lol
I love renovation/construction videos Mark. Looking forward to following your journey on finally getting your dream kitchen 😊 Nina must be super stoked! Just wondering if you'd install an exhaust fan in the pantry to keep the air fresh? Well I reckon you can always open the windows there regardless. Best wishes from Canada.
That's a good suggestion (exhaust fan) for the pantry - I'll be chatting with the builder about that. We will have ducted air conditioning in there but I'll see what they say. Thanks! :)
We just remodeled our master bathroom and replaced the flooring on our second floor. What a mess and headache but worth it at the end. Good luck with your remodel! Enjoy both of your channels!
I started bing watching your original channel. Glad to see that you've expanded. I really want to redo my kitchen. It not very functional as it is. Excited to see what this empty space becomes.
congrats mark. another youtuber i watch, camping with steve, is in the same process right now. as someone who works in construction its rather fun to watch.
I love that you are getting a new space! I hope you have planned it all out on graph paper! My sweetie and I have re done a few kitchens in our travels and I know it's easy to fill a largish space. For example, all my cans would fill your entire back wall, three deep. Remodelling is a great, creative adventure, (and a test of your marital relationship!) Enjoy creating your dream.
Looks awesome Mark & well deserved! Looks like your kitchen is upstairs, are you installing a dumbwaiter? Handy having the deck out there, can see a nice alfresco area. Look forward to the updates. Greetings from VIC 👍🇦🇺
You're lucky to get a builder, I have friends in lower rural NSW who are still living in caravans after the fires went through, builders are in very short supply. Everything on their property (200 acres) got burnt to the ground.
Yeah, it's bloody terrible out there with floods, fires, covid, inflation, supply shortages! Australians will hang on and fight through as usual but it's going to be hard for many people and small businesses. Cheers :)
Hi Mark! :) Awesome work put into this it seems :D - I love the new concept! Maybe make sure you have some way to properly ventiate the new pantry... from the video it seems that there are no windows/vents to circulate the air... Can't wait to see the finished version!!
Pretty cool man, recently been renovating our old home with my dad so we could start renting it out. moved the backdoor and added a bedroom onto the house, redone all the rooms and flooring down to the floor joists. It's hard work and I'm really thankful we're a tradesman family cause otherwise it would've cost an arm and a leg if we weren't doing 90% of it ourselves. Hope it all goes well for you Mark
Mark: we're planning on a new kitchen remodel this year too. We hope to start this summer- June/July in Canada. Are you adding insulation to the wall cavities? In the north we will have a minimum 6 inches of wall insulation and 12 inches in the ceiling. Code requirements call for a plastic vapour barrier. Keeps humidity from freezing inside the walls and then growing mold. Looking forward to seeing your progress and comparing Aus & Can building process.
G'day Allan, that silver lining is about it for us here but some people do insulate the walls to keep their home cooler and warmer. It's not necessary though as our walls don't freeze here and unless you get water running in the wall cavity somewhere (which would mean big problems anyway) there's no need to pack the walls to stop mould. Our house is about 30 years old and the inside of the walls are still as new (thankfully). Cheers :)
Congratulations on such a clever plan. I live in a house now that has a similar layout and it is so good. The best kitchen I have ever had. I am downsizing now but I will still have a mini version of my kitchen.
good luck on your renovation! We considered trying to redo our kitchen b/c it's really rough/old, esp. before we have our new baby in august, but I'm not sure financing is possible for it. But I know what you mean about needing a LOT of storage when you are growing/preserving a lot of your own foods. I also have had to struggle to tuck things everywhere! LOL
Love the sound of the butlers pantry! Can't wait to see how it turns out! Is the (our) left side (the open empty space) going to be your living room (again?) I live the open concept, our kitchen use to be enclosed and it made such a huge difference when we opened it up to the other living spaces!
Yes, that space to the left will be more of a sitting room but kept free-flowing (more about that in later videos) and the living space (with a tv lounge) will be where the camera was in the second half of the video :)
Some nice 4ft by 4ft tiles on the floor? Also check out ditra for the tile on the floor if that's the way you are going its a crack prevention system. Im a tile guy work with it every day
I’ve always dreamed of having a second dishwasher that was dedicated to larger pots and pans so I wouldn’t have to wash them by hand. Looks great, I’m excited to watch the progress and results.
I love seeing kitchen renos.. already on a good track putting the dishwasher on the right-handed side of the sink. Something to think about.. I'm in my 60s and every year the floor seems to get further away.. the bottom shelf of lower cabinets is almost unreachable these days. Having either a slide out shelves or drawer bases instead of cabinets is terribly helpful. I love the color of your framing lumber.. nice sea green on my screen.
“A million power points” absolute music to my ears! So excited for you, it’ll be great!
Butlers pantry you might want to put in a ventfan my mistake when I remodeled the smell from the veggies drying it helps alot 😉
just remember the words "yes dear, your right" during any renovation. Happy for you all, always nice getting that one kitchen!
LOL... So true!
😆

Whoo-hoo. Love this content! I am looking forward to watching this build. I will only see it on here, as I do not do any "social" media anymore.
Amazing and totally makes sense for you with your lifestyle!

Hello Mommasan....nice to see you in a video....house reno looking great....love the pantry....
Very exciting!!!
Weeeeeeee my constant refreshing finally worked hehehe 🤭

do a time lapse off the whole thing Mark.
I wish I could but it's difficult to set up for the whole time. I might do some sections of the build though. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Always felt you needed a different kitchen as you always had so much happening in there.
Could you pulverize the tile, and use it somehow in your garden?
you will be able to make your own sauerkraut
👍
Is there going to be a permanent spot for the dehydrator? I was lucky and got an Excalibur for my birthday last year, only issue is where to store it!
