So awesome, so metal. Biblical imagery is so much better than what the classics lumbered us with.
I attended BIOLA university with the members of Phinehas. I would go to their shows they would put on behind the dorms, and rock out all night long. They would put on more shows at local churches with their peers, and I would be there. I even interviewed the band, and wrote up an article for the BIOLA's newspaper. I was friends with their former drummer, Lee, and he even let me interview him when I had my own radio show for the university. Such cool dudes!
I didn't get to know them that way but I saw them for the first time at Creation Fest Northeast back in 2015, I got to chat with them and get a pic with the band. Then, a week later, my family and I went to see them again and they all recognized me despite only really hanging out for a few minutes at Creation. At every show since then, Sean and Lee both recognized me any time I was there. It honestly meant a lot that they made some random fan feel like we had been friends for years, they're very cool dudes!
What I wouldn't give to be at one of those shows again! That original line up put on such a fun show. I remember the bassist would be ruing around and jumping off everything he could, and Glenn and Scotty were just such cool guitarists! Haha I grew up in the area and played a bunch of shows with them. Man, I miss those days! Happy to see them at this level!

Phinehas has been my most played heavy metal band after For Today disbanded.
For Today is a good band, I saw their farewell show. However, Mattie is kind of a garbage human being.

I feel like HGTA is moreso meant to shock people who are expecting to hear an old timey hymn. I'd recommend something like Into Oblivion, Ex Nihilo, or End of the Age.

Hey pastor rob you should react to Brian Head Welch he is the guitarist of Korn. The song is called WASHED BY BLOOD. He seeked out Christianity to recover from drug addiction the song is very heavy and lyrically deep

Phinehas is my absolute favorite metalcore band of all time! Extremely deep, theologically-centered lyrics with creative, artistic and melodic songwriting. You can't go wrong with them haha
As for me, I have a slightly opposite opinion from Gage, I find Thegodmachine to be their best (with Dark Flag, their most recent one, a close second) because it has a very artistic and progressive flow to it. Grace Disguised By Darkness all the way through to the final track, That I May Love You, feels like they wrote it all as one song and split it into several different tracks, akin to what a lot of progressive rock and metal bands do. Meanwhile, Till the End -- while still an awesome album -- is my least favorite of theirs. But hey, that's opinions for ya!

I opened for these guys back in 2018 with my old local band in Virginia. They’re just as good live as they are on record. You guys should check out their song, “Dyson Sphere.” That one features Garrett from Silent Planet.

I saw them live once over here in Europe and it was an experience. Was amazing to have their positivity and spiritfilled message on stage next to other secular bands \m/

Really enjoyed your reaction to this one. Been a huge fan of Phinehas since 2017 when I first heard Dark Flag, which is definitely worth checking out. "Hell Below" and "Dark Flag" are two great songs from that album. God bless!

Hey guys, another great video! I love the theological breakdown of lyrics that you do, I even use some of the information you provide in my college assignments. I’m going to Regent university so there’s a lot of Christian theology to go through and these videos have actually helped lol. It’s funny you said you hate to call this Sunday “Easter” due to the pagan background it has and called it resurrection day because I said the exact same thing this morning to friends/family.

A fun old band that has disbanded (I think?) is Becoming the Archetype. Their last album (I Am) has a couple great songs -> the first 3 on the album. Mountain of Souls is great, as is Evil Unseen, Dichotomy, Artificial Immortality, and Ransom. Also maybe look at the celestial completion album for the songs elemental wrath and xenosynthesis (play these 2 back to back). Take a look, hopefully y'all like it.
EDIT: I also just remembered Oh Sleeper. They have some great songs: Hush Yael, Endseekers, The Color Theft, The whole Titan EP. They are stellar.

You guys should do "God Went North" by Nothing More. It's about the lead singers mom who died of cancer. It's a song that means a lot to me, because my grandma died from brain tumours in 2014. I can't listen to the song anymore without breaking down and crying. I would absolutely love if you guys did that song, because it's an incredible song, and you can truly feel the emotion in it.
I listen to more metal with these gents than anywhere else.

You should check out Mortification, distarnish priest, primative rhythm machine, Mephibosheth, scrolls of the Megiloth the list goes on. Really great Biblical references with a nineties death metal sound.
