  • Tired of dealing with the replaceable cartridge-style filter on the Cayman? I know I am. So I bought this adapter from LN Engineering that lets me use regular spin-on oil filters like all my other cars.

    *Quick tip*
Once the adaptor is installed and torqued, use a paint pen to make a joining mark between the crank case and the body of the adaptor. This makes it simple to visually detect unwanted rotation in the adaptor over time.

thanks for the great tutorial!!! The tip to wear safety glasses was really useful. I removed the oil filter with a plastic bag, helps to keep the oil spill to a minimum. When I removed the filter it was super lose. After putting on the new filter I added a hose clamp to prevent the new filter from coming lose.

First mode I did on my Cayman S and still have the scars from all the subframe pieces.

Thank you Cliff. Been wondering about the screw on filter and if not having the bypass was any risk. Guess the LN adapter uses a large filter that should be g2g.

Thanks for the informative video. I bought one for my 981C and plan to install during my annual oil change in a few months (and LN got me for the 26mm socket … 🤦 😊).

If I were a cynical person, I might think that perhaps LNE made it 26mm in order to sell 26mm sockets. Good thing I'm not :)

Hey Cliff - where’d you get the wing? Love it and looking to add to my 2017 Cayman S. Thanks

the eco-friendly type filters are on all of my business vans and I just got used to it. I can imagine it saves a little bit of recycled metal to do it that way. from an engineering POV, it's definitely preferable to replacing the whole filter. but in a customized car especially when used for track The rules are not the same as those for mass produced commuters.

I put a spin on adapter on my cayman about a year ago. I didn’t like the idea of dirty oil bypassing the factory filter. Haven’t had any issues with it. I change my oil every 3k to 4k miles

I just ordered one of these for my tracked 987.1 due to this video! Perfect timing to start getting ready for the new season.
Sorry if you've mentioned it in the past, but what wing do you have on the car?

It's a Getty design RS wing I got used with taller-than-standard uprights from some company called SSI.

@@CliffsGarage thanks so much! Do you recommend? Do you feel like it had a noticeable improvement on your car’s handling?

I didn't know it was good practice to replace the oil filter housing every 4-5 changes. Thanks for that tip. Also, I did an oil change for my 987.2 last month and forgot to pre-fill the filter and canister. I didn't notice any problems in the initial start-up or after the quick drive before topping off and re-measuring the oil levels. Interesting to hear LN recommends to skip that step. Maybe the amount of added pre-fill is what causes the oil pressure issues?

My working theory is that the oil in the filter can act as a "blockage" and keep the oil pump from priming since it can't compress the air in the lines enough to move that slug of oil forward. I have nothing to back that up, but it's all I can think of.

Does this system work on the 718 (2017 Cayman S)?

Dose this adaptor only work on Porsche cars?

Question since you didn’t mention this. Are the adapters 2 O-rings supposed to be changed out at some point? Or stay there permanently and only replace the oil filter during oil changes? Seems extraneous but I had a lingering thought throughout the video.

    • @CliffsGarage
      @CliffsGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

The adapter is a permanent installation, only the spin-on filter is ever changed. However, in the event that the adapter is removed or accidentally comes off, LNE recommends replacing both o-rings.

@@CliffsGaragethanks. Another question, are you using this adapter for track use? LN recommends against the basic filter adapter kit for track use. Obviously this is better than the stock filter housing and a lot of people still use this for track usage. Any thoughts? I’m sure LN would surely say to use the billet filter housing.
