@39.08 you have exact lethal. Scamp, sac for Red, ping them to 16. Scamp, sac for Red, ping them 15. Prospector. Sac board for RRR. Cast Reanimate, floating R. You have 5 guys in play. Sac a Prospector for R, use Battle Cry. Attack. Battle Cry triggers. You hit for 10 over 5 guys. They're at 5. Post combat, sac token and a Scamp for RR. Scamp trigger, Shock them, they're at 3. Activate Battle Cry again. 2nd Scamp now 3 power. Sac for R to Prospector, deal last 3. Would have been a hell of a turn and hard to puzzle out in the moment, but it felt like you had enough tools to get there from the start of the turn Edit: you can actually deal 1 more than this, 18 total, by doing all the above until the damage (they take 10, are at 5), and with both Scamp triggers on the stack, sac Prospector and token to add RR and activate Battle Cry again. Both scamps sac for 3, so they go to -1. Quite the puzzle! Love the content btw :)
I agree with Jim w.r.t. MH sets: they're a great concept. Dedicated support for a format frequented by long-time Magic lovers. Most Standard sets hardly have an impact on a cardpool as big as Modern, so cards that are designed to be impactful is a great idea. The only problem is that the cards are over-tuned; the set goes from impactful to necessary which is a steep fall off a cliff. (And also the increased price tag)
I don't really buy the argument that Wizards is nefariously pumping up the power level of new cards, straight-to-Modern or not, because "powerful cards = more money spent on sealed product." Powerful cards generate hype and interest which not only sells more but also makes people interested in Magic in the long-term. Look at MKM: other than the Surveil lands, that was an unpopular set because it was relatively weak and not super fun in most formats. It seems like an arbitrary distinction to separate power->money and power->playerinterest->money, but I think that difference is really important.
I think fundamentally there's just an unsolvable issue with cards specifically targeted at big open formats. By necessity they have to be pretty strong to have a chance at making a splash, and the card pools are so huge that they can really only test functionality and the obvious format ideas. It's so easy for them to miss things, and hitting a "good but not too good" power level is basically down to pure luck. Introducing a large number of these attempts at once is almost inevitably going to warp things. And yeah that might be the intention, to "rotate" these non-rotating formats, but then we wind up in the position like you said where the said goes from impactful to necessary very very quickly (having a almost entirely parasitic mechanic like energy doesn't help either).
I’d be kinda interested in your thoughts on the modern horizons sets honestly, like what they did well and why they ended up terrible. I don’t like them but struggled to articulate why I hate modern with them and such
WOTC killed modern with three swift blows…MH1, 2 and 3. Can’t even really enjoy historic anymore because the energy deck is an absolute abomination. Even with the cards nerfed they are so much stronger than even the other MH cards that are legal. Standards been fun though 🤷🏻♂️
Hey Jim, great to see some gobbo actions around here again! Regarding the cast of prospector with the snoop, I believe you can't do It beacuse when you announce prospector on the stack, it leaves the top of your library. So snoop would already reveal the next card and loses Prospector mana abbility.
Dear Jim, this has nothing to do with this video but I would love to see kind of a sideboarding tips video on the current standard meta ! Sideboarding is so important and I always feel like I do it wrong !
I've been playing this deck for a week or two and have been having a lot of fun with it. I did a lot of losing at the start, but have been having a lot more success with it after some practice. It isn't as straight forward as a lot of other decks and skirk prospector and rundvelt hordemaster make for some weird lines
There's no reason to expect another Pioneer legal remaster set to come out. It was like pulling teeth for them to decide to do Shadows Over Innistrad Remastered and they only did the full Khans set to justify implementing Delve (not even bothering with a full Remaster of the block). I expect that we're going to start seeing sets moving into Modern legality rather than continuing to work on Pioneer. A $30 Anthology can come out if some new Pioneer card that's not on Arena starts making the tournament rounds and that'll make more money than any of the sets that are left in Pioneer to implement (outside of RtR block - that would probably sell quite well)
@@dillonfurlotte7912ultimately came to the same conclusion of ”great in situations you’re already winning”. There’s a dream scenario where Prospector powers out the Call/Return that seemed enticing but that’s as likely as just getting the Return out period if this run is any indicator.
Maybe modern should just get absorbed by legacy. And the primary distinction of pioneer is the absence of real fetchlands. My draw to the format is that it's the only format that treasure cruise is still legal in.
I doubt Modern players would like to have to buy 20k in lands or Legacy players to lose their format. Modern and Legacy play very differently in practice.
It's true. I have a modern deck. I like modern. But there have been a lot of grievances over MH3. They're just going to have to ban the cards out from under the format it was created for. Like Jeweled Lotus and Mana Crypt for commander. And then Legacy gets the leftovers. Yum.

Always a winner with Cassian! Such a great little guy!

I hope you had a good Thanksgiving Jim.
I saw Saffron Olive playing this deck and I was hoping to see you give it a try too.

MOGG MONDAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!

The last Modern video I saw was not terrible but, yeah, it's a race to casting ToR before the opponent. Same in Historic and Timeless.

I played in a pioneer rcq and everyone was playing 5 color combo deck mania. What a place for main decking sun spine lynx.

No knowledge of the books, but The Wheel of Time TV show is just God awful. So don't go there.
