    Brilliant work, excellent video and excellent work. Some great tips, thanks for posting. I'll be giving this a whirl tomorrow on my Warco Mini Lathe.

    Never used a lathe but now have the option to get a used WM180 and this has been a good starting video. I could use a video about the various lathe tools such as the different cutting materials (steel, carbide) and their use, and how they mount on the WM180.

    Hi Ades, I like this modification , on my Warco 290V the cross slide dial is 4mm one turn off dia that's ok what I don't like is each division .04mm & the rest of markings not easy to work with, so I made a aluminium sleeve to fit over the original locktited on, it's now .1mm each div off dia & clear marks for 1 2 3 & 4mm with a knurl for grip, I have made many more mods, I'm now going to do the handles, thanks Grahame from Coventry.

      mine is 2mm per rev but the DRO takes away the issue , the handles totally change the feel , Cheers Ade.

      Yeah the 50 divisions, being 0.04mm each in radius really are a PITA.
      So you changed yours to read a diameter change instead, and made 40 divisions about the dial, each quarter turn being a 1mm diameter change?

      I am a complete novice with a lathe.I have the same cross slide dial on my WM250. Its causing me no end of confusion. It really puts me off this lathe. I'm not experienced enough to know what to do about it yet

    Hi Ade. Excellent channel and videos. I notice that you have a carriage stop fitted to your WM180. I have the same lathe and have found that the Draper Carriage Stop 06912 will fit on the WM180 with just a small amount of packing between the 2 parts of the clamp. Thought this might be useful if anyone with a WM180 wanted a carriage stop that they could purchase.

    Perfect👍👏
    Will be adding those to my BH600G and a perfect compliment to the other mods I made, especially the clutch shown in my video.

    I have the Optimum version of this lathe (or maybe its big brother - TU2004) and for the size/money I think it is really useful. This is a great idea as the knobs annoy me too. Thanks for the idea! Stefan Gotteswinter over on his channel did an upgrade to the bearings in the cross slide and I was wondering if that would be worth doing too? Finally I wonder if putting tiny skateboard bearings in the handles would make them feel better too. Thanks again! Really enjoying your videos.

    Hello Ade. I have the very same lath as you and would be very grateful if you could make a video instructing us how to change gear train for threading?
    Any help is much appreciated.

    Hi, I’m a complete beginner and i only used a lathe long time ago when i was still in trades school. i’m interested to purchase a lathe and possibly start one of my hobbies ( model steam engines ) I’m very interested in a Warco lathe or maybe a proxxon. So Please pardon my stupid question buy @18:13 the work seem to wobble a bit while its turning , is it normal with mini lathes or maybe is the camera?

    • @andywithers592
      @andywithers592 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The wobble is just a small amount of runout in the work piece. Only the last 5mm is being gripped in the chuck so likely the part is not quite straight. In general Warco chucks / spindles have very minimal runout.

    Could you add a couple ball bearings top and bottom of the handle? I know over kill but for learning purposes 🤔

    Hi mate, thank you for the upload and info! Im thinking of upgrading my Chinese mini lathe to the Warco WM180 but was wondering if you have tried it with stainless steel yet? I mainly work with brass, wood and resin but do occasionally need to machine stainless steel too and as you can imagine the Chinese mini lathe tends to struggle with it :(

    • @ade63dug
      @ade63dug  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problems with stainless i treat it just like steel . I do not go nuts with large cuts and feedrate though . as long as the workpeice is well supported it is fine .

    Ade - what speed do you recommend for Knurling? And when Knurling can you go over the area again?

    It would appear these hobbyist lathes themselves ARE the hobby! Can anyone show an extensive project that has been completed on one of these machines?

    How does the accuracy of the handle dials compared to the DRO?

    • @ade63dug

      very good mostly , The blessing is that no need to account for backlash or have to think to much . Cheers Ade
