    Thanks for the nostalgic trip to Newgale Beach, took me right back to my childhood in Trecwn, we visited Newgale often over the 3 years we were there, though not at the pub!

    Hi Ade - just found your videos...I've recently bought a second-hand Warco WM180 so I'm going to be an avid watcher. Been through Newgale many times, I love that part of the world.

      About 10 minutes drive away . Every time I drive over the crest of the hill and it comes into view , the world seems a better place . It is glorious in Summer but in Winter , with nobody there , it is even better, As long as a good warm coat is worn . Cheers Ade.

    How to lube chucks is always a controversial topic. Larger scroll chucks, often starting with 6” (150mm), are usually greased, not oiled. I haven’t yet found a chuck manufacturer that doesn’t say to grease them, generally with a moly based grease. Some even make their own grease. If a chuck is properly designed, and made, and if you use it properly, you will never get chips in the scroll. Only if you rack the jaws too far out to get the part that’s too large for the chuck, so that you can see the scroll when using it, will you get chips in there.

    Hello Ade, as well as a retired engineer, I'm a paraglider pilot and I believe Newgale beach has a flying site, so I wonder if you ever see people flying there. If ever I get the chance to come there flying I will see if I can search you out mate, I live near Merthyr Titful so it's not too far to travel!!

    Thanks a lot for the tailstock lesson. Taking it apart for lubrication will be the first action today. My tailstock locks when the handle is pulled backwards and releases when it has fallen all the way down forwards but I'll figure it out now. Where did You find that oiler can? My one spreads most of the oil around the oiler. The mini lathe has a chuck cover that must be down to run the lathe. I just hang a rag over that cover and let the chuck spin at a good speed for some time after oiling the chuck, and when starting a session the oncoming days.
    And the best, beer is only water with some additives…. I'll use that description when my lady friend dislikes my beers. Thanks for Your warm and friendly humour Ade!

      It worked out well. Now the tailstock lock handle operates like it should.

    Newgale, certainly was this summer when I rode down that road 0n a motorcycle hol' this summer. Beach was closed, raining sideways. Bloody Wales!!! (Twas just like home in Yorkshire).😎

      It can very very exposed on a bad day, anywhere near Otley?

      @2WHEELSor2WINGS 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ade63dug . I am a Huddersfield lad so not a million miles away, you from Otley?
      Thinking of trading in my mini lathe. Are you happy with the 180 of yours, is it beefy enough for most home workshops, is it a noticeable improvement on the mini lathe?
      Your in put would be appreciated.
      Graham.😎

    A small pickup magnet is useful for getting metal chips out of a scroll.

    • @nlo114
      @nlo114 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer to keep magnets away from my machines, only using one to retrieve lost parts. For effective cleaning, I use my shop-vac. A foot long off-cut of plastic water-pipe wrapped with insulating tape and stuffed in the end of the std nozzle does the job.

      I have the same lathe made in china, it is exactly the same. I am fond of but my prefesion is another, I am a doctor and I'm starting in this business as a hobby. Your videos are very clear and very well explained.
      Beautiful place where you live, my city is a mountainous area, Catamarca-Argentina.

    A quick question, what oil do you use for lubing your lathe ? When I bought mine, the oil that it came with seems to "thin" or light

  • @gillian9178

    Have you tried adding just a tube spacer instead of the gear spacer on the 52 tooth gear. Would that give you enough clearance that way.

    • @ade63dug
      @ade63dug  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am sure it would work , the issue is that warco do not supply a spacer that would make it work , or there certainly was not one supplied with mine , cheers Ade.

    Hi Ade
    Great vids as always.
    Have you any experience on the the gear train on the Warco290v.
    I am finding it very difficult to interpret the manual for this machine.
    The principles you have outlined on your video have been very helpful but there is this difference between your m/c and the 290v and i am stuck.
    Help

    • @ade63dug
      @ade63dug  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Peter Spain email me with photos of gear train and chart and I will see if I can help. In the meantime I will look at the info on the warco site . Hopefully I can help Cheers Ade

    Ade, you'll want to get that 1.5 L of water in you well before bed time, otherwise you'll be getting the "Old man" wanders in the middle of the night or need a plastic sheet on the bed.
    Cheers Eric
