When I saw an episode on "Living Single" about this person, it was done in humor. Erika Alexander aka Maxine Shaw protrayed her to create the scene back in that time era. On the show, Kyle was daydreaming about performing at the Cotton Club and he was being mistreated by Max's character. I never knew this lady really exist until you did this bio. Living Single did a simple, more funnier version of her, but I am glad that you opened my eyes of the true Madam St. Claire. She was a bad mama JAMA!!!! 💯🤑💯

Great Story. I really love these old obscure tales. My maternal born 1899 in Bermuda and they lived in Atlantic City NJ. I loved that HBO show Boardwalk Empire. . I can see my grandmother who was a NAACP secretary, YWCA executive a entrepreneur and civil rights activist involved in everything back then. She sent her 2 children to college (HU) in the 1940s and would let well known people like Paul Robeson stay at her home during visits to the resort area.

As a very gifted, intelligent, and sophisticated Black woman, she could've been a mathematician or scientist, but the system was so determined to keep her held back that she felt she had no other choice but to resort to this lifestyle.
