I woke up at 4:10 this morning and really needed to see/hear your utube this morning! My plan was to work on a new table runner for Thanksgiving today, but I’ve been hesitant and apprehensive about starting it because it’s been a while since quilting anything. My comfort has been cross stitching…but you have given me the impetus to just get going and DO IT! We have rain all day here in North Carolina from traveling IDA, so it will be a good day to tackle a project! You are so real and relatable! Needless to say, I’ll be thinking about you as I slowly and carefully do my cutting!

Hi Anna, I love your ramblings. This afternoon I have been sewing half square triangles from all the bits you cut off when sewing flying geese, you kept me company.
I made 74 HST's. Now all I have to do is press the seams open and sew the bits back together. My daughter wants me to make 4 mug rugs so the HST's will come in handy. Weather today cloudy and dreary and not very warm.
    Hope you enjoy the retreat.
    Regards Anne

Anna, I have done so many things, cutting, measuring and sewing on quilts that were mistakes. I have also learned a lot and have had many successes. You are so not alone; I'm sure there are many of us out there. Loved your story about the European trip, if life were only that easy again. Take care.

Cutting out the pieces for a quilt do take concentration. I talk to myself out loud when I cut the fabric. This is what helps my brain function well. LOL. It works. It's great hearing the stories and travels of your life. Thanks for sharing.

Oh my gosh - I just did that! Pulled out a kit to make Christmas placemats, cut two placemat backs incorrectly so have to try to piece together “scraps” to get them back to the correct size. You always help make me feel better - I’m not alone in the mistakes I make!

I would’ve done that at my retreat this year but there is always a class of some kind so I bring my machine. You’ll have no problem with your table runner. Such an appropriate video to watch just after this happened. I saw a quilt that gave me an idea so I was drafting my own pattern. Was going fine until I cut the squares for the half square triangles. Fortunately I decided to piece a bit of it before continuing to cut as I had miscalculated. Sadly I was using scrap and had just enough for one block so that fabric had to be abandoned when I had undercut the squares. The gears in my brain seized so decided to take a break and watch you. LOL. After your video finished realised my 1/2 sq triangles are cut correctly. I was just trying to trim then down to the wrong size!!!! Thanks for your help. Hope you also have success in sorting out your project. Can’t wait to see how it turns out.

I participated in a BOM from my LQS two years ago. I was ready to make a cut when my husband walked through talking followed by the dog barking. As soon as I cut the piece I knew it was wrong. Of course there isn’t any extra for errors. I took the piece to the shop to see if I could buy a fat quarter. I had to tell her my sad tale. Luckily they keep scraps in the back leftover from cutting the kits, so she gave me a replacement piece. I learned ,unless on and now stop all cutting until the coast is clear…lol. Your table runner will be lovely and maybe uniquely your own!

So much fun getting ready for retreat! I understand the list making. I'm a serial list maker. I'm crunching getting down to the wire for my guild's big 3-day quilt show September 10 - 12 and my lists are getting longer instead of shorter 😱. I seem to work better under pressure so hopefully this weekend everything will fall into place LOL. Fingers crossed!! Also here's to hoping you can make your table runner work out. Hugs from NE Ohio.

:( I was stressing with you when you were cutting the kit :(. Sending you good thoughts and hugs! This is completely why kits stress me out also! I am hoping that you can figure out how to 'make it work', even if it is not exactly as the kit was intended... I also hope that you are able to attend your quilt retreat - I could tell how much you have looked forward to it!
Thank you again for praying for Hurricane Ida victims as it will be a long recovery. We are finally seeing hope - after 10 days, we finally have power, phone, internet, most stores open but with limited hours and supplies, very limited postal service and my bank is still not open. But we know how to prepare and we will make it through this just as other communities such as Oregon find ways to recover from the devastating wild fires. Last week we had Mass in a church with no electricity and our priest reminded us to look for the miracles and not focus on the devastation - and there are so many miracle stories! I finally drove into town yesterday on my normal route....so many houses where huge trees fell inches away from a home...Truly have to believe God was protecting that family!
Thank you for the visit...truly like a visit with a friend in these troubled times :)

New stuff all the time. It is so hard not to start new stuff!!! I enjoy sitting with you when I can. Even if it takes me three or four sits to see one in entirety. OMG that haunted camper kit is so cute!!! Sadly we just sold our fifth wheel. Husband mot wanting to take it out any longer. I'm not making too much of a fuss. But I will say our intent in the get go was something smaller and he got hooked on the 37' fifth wheel. It was my shangrila. The new couple who bought it are thrilled so the dream continues

I did hear your brain go waw waw waw. 😂 I check things off as I cut them too. I’m so bad sometimes I read the directions, see what I need to cut, line my ruler up, ready to cut, triple check the directions! 🤣 I once cut a border wrong TWICE! Luckily it was readily available fabric so I just bought some more. When I do that I know it’s time to walk out of the studio & shut the door. Hope your calendar allows you to still go to your retreat. It would be a shame to miss it.

Hi Anna - There is nothing out there that can’t be fixed. It may need a tweak to the original. You can do it. Take the pattern and 2 different color of hiliter pens. Make one color for the table runner and the other color for the pot holder. Read it line per line and determine which it’s for and then use the correct hiliter to color code and when you get it all read you will have the instructions for each pattern separately. Hope this makes sense. You are color coding the instructions to only read what you need. You can make this and it will be beautiful. I’ve got faith in you. Hugs!

You know - I rewrite the instructions when they include more or not enough information that I like - sometimes i do it in the margins- or I cross off their numbers and write mine.
And - because I’m a “newbie”, if I have time, I’ll do it in a practice fabric. (Why yes, I do have quite a few orphan blocks/ hahahahaha).

Probably because I seldom do what they say! 7/8"??? Nope. Round up, trim down. I use the tools I love to achieve the units. I go math nerd on a project. Lol.
