I just bought a Tutto (and the salesman case) for retreats as well. OMG...GAME CHANGER. I don't have 10 bags of stuff. Now everything fits in one bag! It is expensive....but it depends on how much you travel with your machine. I attend 5-7 retreats a year. Love this bag!!!
Five years later, thank you for this video! I'm a miniaturist, not a quilter, but I like sewing machine roller bags as my 'travelling' craft bag for workshops, and I'm looking at this brand for my next upgrade. Despite not being a quilter, I found a lot of really helpful tips in this video for my own pastime. Thanks again!
Laura - I immediately printed the supply list, took it back to the bedroom where I keep all sewing travel supplies and started packing - even though I have no immediate plans for a retreat! You are an inspiration. I have quilted for a long time so was able to make my rolling travel case ready to pick up at a moment's notice and whisk myself out the door! I especially like the idea of laminating the sheet. Again, thank you.
I travel to sew a lot and have even done presentations similar to this one. I would only add one thing to this excellent video: Make sure every single item that comes out of this bag is marked with your name (if practical) or some other unique mark. I use an etcher on scissors but also mark with an odd color of nail polish - not pink or red - something weird like vivid purple or blue. That way, no disputes about what belongs to whom.
Laura - thank you SO MUCH for this video! It's very helpful and you have a lot of good suggestions on things to bring that I wouldn't have though of. I also appreciate how organized you are.
Thanks for the great tips. I'm a relatively new quilter and will be attending a class in a few weeks so this message is timely for me. I just ordered one of those bags so I didn't have to try to carry mine to the class out of town. You showed me things I didn't know about the back which is helpful and I will be downloading the sheet too. Thanks a bunch!!😀👍
Going on my very first quilting retreat and I'm so very excited and so very nervous. I won't know anyone there so stepping out of my comfort zone. THANK YOU for this video and the printable list!
I had to fly to my first quilt retreat (my carryon was a Tutto suitcase with machine inside) and bought fabric there, SEW I mailed home my dirty clothes via flat rate USPS. It was cheaper than checking a bag, I didn’t have to fool with baggage claim, and I was in a bigger hurry to play with fabric than to do laundry. Priorities. P.S. Mark your rulers, rotary cutters, scissors etc to facilitate them going back home with you when you travel even to a sit-and-sew at the quilt shop or friend’s house.
Wow! I'm definitely not using my sewing tote efficiently. Idea for you: I bought extra large pill boxes (compartment for each day) and put most of my machine feet in these- even takes my larger 9mm. very handy for retreats or at home. I label the top of each box. Great as I have multiple machines so they don't get mixed up in my drawer. thanks, heading to great 4-dy retreat in mid-Sept.
Oh boy! I'll bet there's someone at every quilting retreat you go to that has saved a place for you to sit next to them! Ha! ("Because I know Laura will have packed whatever I might have forgotten to bring. And she's such a nice lady, I'm sure she won't mind lending me a sewing or quilting tool for whatever unexpected task the teacher suggests we use.") It reminds me of an old TV show. When you walk into the room, instead of hearing, "Norm!" everybody will have a big smile on their face, and wave their welcoming arms for you to come to their table as they call out, "Laura!" Have lots of fun for me on this retreat, okay?
I kind of figured that you were organized now I know that you most definitely are! Enjoyed this video I have avoided the Tutto bag for a long while because I didn't think I really need it, may have to rethink that.
That is a great idea. I have a bag for my machine and I bought a (large) tool box for everything else which works a treat however it is two things to carry where as this is all in one!
I bought a roller bag at your local fabric store, paid like almost 100.00. I figured they are all the same, not! First of all my sewing machine doesn't fit! My machine is wider so it's tilted as I drive around looking for my class! My poor machine! Then my other stuff is in another bag, okay huge bag, and I've tried bungee cording it to top, big fail! So I'm caring that in my other arm! I just ordered this baby! Yes I will have such better control of all my tools and sanity! That is worth millions, and the price was not that much more then the one I originally bought that was a waste of money. From now on I'm not purchasing anything without looking on your site for your recommendations! Thanks for all your tips of the trade. You make everything so much easier so it can be fun!
Oh, I'd love to have a friend that sews. My friends and I are all artists in many different medias. We get together to work but I'm the only one who sews. I need more friends.
Laura, what size is your TUTTO? I like it because you can fit so many things besides your sewing machine in it. If you get one a little bigger. I have a fw too. But I don't bring it to classes. Love your videos to. Thanks for sharing.
AlexaY82 thanks, I didn't hear her say that. So I watched it again. And then I heard her. I have to stop watching, when I'm watching baseball at the same time. 😜
Is there a source for the multi color marking pen in the US? The company that sells it is in Canada & while the price is not unreasonable (11.99) , the shipping cost to the US is $20.00!! Yikes! Love the suitcase. For all it holds, it's not overly expensive. Have never seen one like it anywhere else . May want to order it. Louise
gdtwin1 Thanks, I looked it up and I guess it would be hard to get a good one. There are several small machines out there now and I will probably pick up one of those. Great case!!

Thanks for the tip. I ordered one today. Hope it gets here by next Thursday. I am going on quilt retreat.
Great ideas. I too have certain bags and tools for a retreat but it would be nice to carry only one. Thanks for the great tips!!
Thanks so much. I have not made time to go on a quilting retreat. I will be adding this to my due list of things. Thanks and take care.

OMG I have never heard of a quilting retreat
Sounds very exciting!
I am going in Oct and you have given me lots of things to think about - thanks

Oh, I picked up at small wooden box yesterday at the craft store - I like the sturdiness of it. :-)
That is a great idea. I have a bag for my machine and I bought a (large) tool box for everything else which works a treat however it is two things to carry where as this is all in one!
great video and suggestions..I go to retreats and this was a wonderful presentation
Thank you for the retreat packing tips! I do have a Tutto and learned a few things about the exterior straps! The list is a wonderful idea!

Hi Laura, what portable lighting do you recommend?
Can you buy Tutto in Canada? Your link and other links I have searched bring up US sites.
I do not know, perhaps if you ask your local shop they might be able to get you one:)
Found one!! Picked it up today, and smiled aaaalllll the way home! What travel iron do you use?
LOVE IT! Thank you.
That is one fantastic case I was just waiting for the kitchen sink to come out 😍😍😍 noticed you don't take your rings 💍💍
I make sure I wear one that will not catch on my fabric:) Did you get my email!
Oh, I'd love to have a friend that sews. My friends and I are all artists in many different medias. We get together to work but I'm the only one who sews. I need more friends.
I can be your friend, what state are you in
Same, I need quilting friends. I'm in Idaho.
Brilliant!
Yes!!!! I've been waiting on this!
Where can you find quilting retreats? Anyone????
Laura, what size is your TUTTO? I like it because you can fit so many things besides your sewing machine in it. If you get one a little bigger. I have a fw too. But I don't bring it to classes. Love your videos to. Thanks for sharing.
Hi! She said it was a "large".
AlexaY82 thanks, I didn't hear her say that. So I watched it again. And then I heard her. I have to stop watching, when I'm watching baseball at the same time. 😜
haha yes it is a large, but you can even get it bigger!
I've just collected everything to make a Featherweight case like yours. I'm surprised you don't take it on retreats...
if my case is full I do:)

Does anyone know if the medium size will work as an airline carry-on?
you need the small 17" one for that. store.tutto.com/17-red-small-carry-on-size/
Laura, what type of small sewing machine do you have there?
Marilyn Jemison I'm not Laura but it is an antique Singer Featherweight. Great machine!
gdtwin1 Thanks, I looked it up and I guess it would be hard to get a good one. There are several small machines out there now and I will probably pick up one of those. Great case!!
It is an antique Feather Weight and if you can get one you will love it:)
Where are all these great retreats? Would love for you all to share your favorite ones :)
check with you local quilt shop or quit guild...they will know:)
What about flying with your machine I worry it would get damaged in this bad
Quilting retreat sounds expensive.
Are you selling the bag or telling us what to bring to the retreat??!! LOL
more on what to bring, but I did get a few questions about the bag so I thought I would show it at the same time:)
