Fantastic results for your rag quilt. Surely this quilt is going to make someone very happy. Thank you for sharing and I’d like to wish you a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS.👍❤️😊
Oooh rag quilts are my fave....so cosy and snuggly. Ive only ever done squares same size so looking forward to trying your mixed size version. Im a cotton flannelette girl (born in 1960s) lol. Thanks for a fabulous how to video.....youre an amazing and lovely teacher xx❤❤
Your rag quilt is, as usual, very lovely. Whoever receives it is a lucky person. I’ve made two of these quilts. The second one was made out of leftover flannel with an outdoor woodsman print. This was given to my grandson as a gift for his birthday a few years ago. The fabric was leftover from a quilt I made for his Father ( not a rag quilt), long before he was born. I was so excited to make the second rag quilt but my excitement has been satisfied, no more for me….too tedious. ❤
That quilt is beautiful. You are quite skilled at hand sewing, as well, as I've seen in your other videos I just recently found your channel as it popped up in my feed one day. I have been crocheting for about 50 years, knitting for about 35 years, and I have made 2 quilts which I pieced by machine and hand-quilted in frames. One was a nine-patch alternated with appliqued blocks, and the other was a pattern called Bear's Paw here, but you might know it by another name. I made each of those as gifts years ago, and have all the pieces cut for a 3rd quilt top. Those pieces have been put away for about 30 years now. Watching your channel has reinvigorated my interest in quilting, so I'm going to dig those pieces out and finish the top. It has curved seams and sharp points, so I was doing it all by hand, and planned to hand quilt it. I guess I got tired, put it away, went on to other projects, and never picked it up again. I am keen to try your hand-quilting-on-your-lap technique. It looks so soothing and meditative. I recently retired, and have been crocheting a lot, but I think I will start working on that quilt again. I think the pattern was called Turkey Tracks, which I found in a book of quilting patterns. Love your channel, and I will be watching some of your older videos for tips. I will never be too old to learn new tricks. Hah! One tip that you might think goes without saying, but I've taught sewing classes and now know not to assume anything. Whatever type of craft you're working on, wash your hands and do not use lotion before picking it up. You just pet the dog or cat? Wash your hands again. Dirt, lotions and body oils will dirty your thread and leave smudges on your work that might not show up right away. Merry Christmas to you from Huntsville, Alabama, USA.
❤❤❤ I love it. Using a flannel sheet for the inside is a great idea and allows you to cut at the same size as the block. Great job! That’s a lot of work. Thanks for the tutorial. ❤🎄 Merry Christmas
Beautiful! Love the batiks in with the denim ! Flannel instead of batting is a great idea ! Merry Christmas to you and your family from New Brunswick, Canada !
I’ve made many rag quilts, mostly with flannel. I use the same scissors as you and found that holding a metal ruler along the seam prevents me from clipping through the thread. I also wash and dry mine at a laundromat with a pair of sneakers as it helps with the fraying process. And my machine always needs a good clean afterwards with all the flannel fuzz! Beautiful with the denim and batik!
This video is just what I needed. I have a rag quilt to make and I had forgotten how I did the last one. Love the batik fabric with the denim. I was planning to use the leftover bits of batting but I may switch so the seams are fluffier. Thanks Rachel.
Fiskars makes specialty rag quilt scissors. They help tremendously and were worth the price. I like the denim fabric. The two I made were made with flannel front and back (1 had flannel for the center layer, 1 had no center layer {my favorite}) . They are very cozy and warm. Good tip about the duvet cover as my dryer was a shocking mess.
The Denim and Brights combo feels like how I wished my room looked in the Early 2000s lol, Rag Quilting has absolutely been Mysterious to me until now so I'm excited to finally have the secrets and give it a shot!
Love this! I have been trying to decide what fabric to pair with fishing fabric I have for our grandsons. I will be purchasing this denim! Thank you & Merry Christmas to you ans your family🎄❤️🎄
Oh my goodness the colors are beautiful! Wonderful gift. Here is a tip…if you change your needle plate to the one with just a small hole instead of the slit, your fabric won’t get eaten when you are stitching. Someone shared this with me and it works perfect. So I’m passing it on to you.
I want to make this exact quilt. ❤ I have an inexpensive brother sewing machine and I’m a little worried it isn’t powerful enough to manage the layers. I will need to do some test blocks and see how it goes. Maybe I’ll start with a rag potholder. 😂
My sister has an inexpensive machine and she has made a rag quilt, the lightweight denim i used is like thick cotton so very easy to sew with. Just go slow and with a denim needle 💖

Love it, Rachel! Beautiful job. Love Rag quilts. Merry Christmas!🎄🎁⛄️♥️❄️
Lovely rag quilt! You can also use flannel yardage for your middle later, but I’d bet you found a more affordable option in sheets. Great idea.
This might be my first quilting project. I absolutely love it!
Hope you enjoy it!

I have made so many baby quilts out of flannel just like this, so fast - it’s a one day project! I want to do a denim one, to use as a picnic quilt.
That would be wonderful 💖
That is beautiful and looks so cozy.
Wow! I never thought I would like a rag quilt, but your version is beautiful… the batik 4 patches shine like jewels in the cozy denim 💕

Hi Lisa, that is a great tip but sadly my machine doesn't come with additional stitch plates but definitely on my list to buy
I’ve been wanting to make one of these for ages, you’ve made it look so easy and simple to make. I wonder if I can get one made before Xmas 🤔
Hi. I am wondering how many hours you spend on this quilt? I really like the fluffy seams
