- The Rock is a 1996 action film that primarily takes place on Alcatraz Island, and the San Francisco Bay area. It was directed by Michael Bay, director of Bad Boys, and stars Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage, and Ed Harris. It was produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, producers of Top Gun and Crimson Tide, and released through Disney's Hollywood Pictures. The film is dedicated to Simpson, who died five months before its release.

This was one of my grandfather's favorite movies. He was a fighter during the Korean War. He died last December at age of 87 from a brain aneurysm. I chose the first half of this song as funeral music for him. RIP Fafa. Harold Brewer (1933-2020)

It's a tribute to how good an actor Connery was that he is rarely discussed as an action hero but his action resume is as impressive as anyone.

Strangely he doesn't seem to rate it himself. He's been touring lately and the concert features things like TDK, Lion King, Inception, Crimson Tide, and POTC, but not this. A shame, as this was prob his first really great one, and the one many of us were first exposed to.
Just hearing those words, "They're not coming for us, are they sir?" gets me every time. Makes me think of all the real soldiers who have said those words over the years, those left in some shithole to die.

Why am I not surprised this is Hans Zimmer? Brilliant composer.
Actually it's mostly Nick Glennie Smith and not Zimmer (Zimmer worked on it though and produced it, NGS was part of his company Media Ventures, at the time)
There was something about the scores Hans Zimmer produced in 90s and early 2000s. he did so many action movies at that time, and they all had this loud electric guitar energetic patriotic style

Omg.. remembering this as a 16 year old first time crying in a cinema ... the shower scene with the navy seals getting shot to sh*t while their commander can't give them the order to stand down... such epicness i have yet to see...

This is one of the best movies sean Connery was a part of in his later years. I love the theme, and the movie. Ed harris, and nicholas cage did excellent work in this movie. John spencer was great in this movie as FBI director Womack. Rest in peace all the departed actors and crew of this movie.

I was just a kid when i watch this movie. That intro with this music already sent shivers down my spine. Every now and then I'd look for this theme just to reminisce it again.

Correction, yesterday I rewatched this movie and it has not aged well. The editing is a nightmare, the needless slo-mo and unnecessary explosions gave me a headache. Plus the continuity is non existent. So basically, Bay never made good movies! Plus the theme is identical to POTC, I know this came first but it was distracting.

I saw this movie in cinema for the first time when I was 11 and it’s still one of my favourites, 25 years later. And I often have to watch it again. Simply great!

I HAVE to believe that The Rock HEAVILY influenced Kojima's direction for the Metal Gear Solid Series. Patriotism, betrayal, politics, high-stakes tactical espionage action.

This was (with Crimson Tide) the first time, I really began to love Zimmers work.
Such an underrated movie, Ed Harris and Sean Connery two titans sharing the screen, Micheal Biehn (one of my favourite actors) Tony Todd, William forsythe all great in their performances, even cage and the actor who plays womankind, David Morse another favourite actor, the thing that gives me goosebumps though, is THIS music with Hanz Zimmer (and forgive me another great composer) I watched this last night. It's an epic movie.

War, historical and epic action movies are just not as nearly epic without Hans Zimmer soundtracks.
I guess he was in a same "mood" when he composed this and Crimson Tide (submarine movie from 1997 i think) soundtracks
dont get me wrong, but I think action, historical and war movies were most epic from period of late 90s to the early 2000s. After cca 2005 there is only bunch of commercial shit everywhere.
But when I hear one of these soundtracks from 90s movies, I remember my childhood when i was about 7 years old, when I just waited for one movie like this to show up on TV, and the soundtrak of Hans Zimmer on intro of the movie was a best sign that movie is some high budget epic masterpiece. I didnt know who was a composer back then or who even made these songs, but I recognised that signature sound.
Hans Zimmer is a best composer for me, and generaly speaking, Hans and Clint Mansell are 2 best soundtrack composers ever, alongside with Jack Wall that made a soundtrak for Mass Effect game (well that is my personal op.)

Awesome soundtrack indeed, Hans Zimmer is just genius. Playing this song on guitar, high volume, high reverb, a bit of delay echos = simply amazing.

I was visiting alcatraz November 2019 when I was informed that a good friend of mine died. During that moment I was listening to this soundtrack. It will always remember me of him.
