Thank you, Phil. I'll look into it. It's already a bit confusing, as at a glance it seems The Swingles change over the years and go back to the 60s. Probably an interesting avenue to explore.
My dear Dominik, so good to see you and glad to hear you enjoyed Christmas with family and friends, just as it should be! I am so glad that I got to be a tiny part of it, together with Pentatonix who certainly made this performance one to remember! All the best to you Kiddo, in the coming year! You've made this one a great one for me along with quite a few friends I've made through music this year. ❤❤❤
Thank you, an enjoyable reaction. To me, it is so impressive to perform a song like this with such great timing. I have no idea how they do it, but they're masters of it.
I have decided that I don't need to know everything. It's enough that I know that I don't know. 🤣 That certainly does not stop me from thoroughly enjoying this immaculate performance. Glad you did too! ❤
@@AleksReacts True, sometimes enjoyment becomes even more pure if we don't know. More mysterious 😉. But I can't imagine this was done without real effort and practice.
Greetings from Scotland! He's right, Carol of the Bells is extremely difficult to get the timing right, I had to do it with a choir in school, and honestly, we thought we would never get the timings right! But there seemed to be a lightbulb moment when it just "clicked" and I will never forget that moment! The relief was palpable because we were running out of time! However, Pentatonix's version MAY have been just a tiny bit better than our version was! 😂😂 For me one of the best Christmas sounds ever!
Even to a layman it must be clear that this is not possible to work out without every single person "knowing their place in every single second". It is clear that it's a very tough one to perform, let alone live, but they nailed it. I've honestly never, ever heard it performed better. I'll take your word for it being "a tiny bit better" 🤣 May you and your family have a wonderful Christmas (it's still Dec. 25th) and a very Happy New Year! Most of all, I wish you what you wish for yourself in 2025. 🎄🎄🎄Love to Scotland the Brave from Serbia!❤❤❤
@@AleksReacts Thank you Aleks! For me, a full Male Voice Choir (preferrably Welsh) performing this is breath taking, but this was astoundingly well performed! The only difference between theirs and ours were the numbers of people. We had around 20 (ish) people as far as I remember and initially it's chaos! Less people, less chaos! Took time but the end result is so pleasing, it was worth it. We had a short, furious, little female music teacher, but nobody messed with her! Mrs. Pugh! Any messing around got a wallop with a hockey boot - sadist, but good teacher for all that! 😂😂 I assume you also celebrate tomorrow, 26th (Boxing Day) or do you have something else?
I'm very glad you enjoyed it, hopefully both their live rendition and the reaction. This all worked out thanks to @technodevilexe, without them there'd be no reaction. ❤❤❤
I sure did, heard it at least 50x so far in just a couple of days and it's not even Christmas over here. 🤣 I'm a tad bit obsessive like that, if I hear something I like I play it on repeat. Hope you've had a lovely Christmas Day and wishing you a Happy New Year too! 🎄🎄🎄
I've heard this song a million times, never as beautiful as this. Thank you so much, Jairo! ❤ The tree is the first one I've had in about 20 years or so. Never got one when I was renting and now, for 2+ years we live in our place. Haven't taken it down that entire time. I think this year we finally will. 🤣 And a continued thanks to @technodevilexe for being kind enough to share this with me, so I can share it with all of you.
When I was younger, I learned that this song was called "The Ukrainian Bell Carol". One day I found out everyone else just knew it as "Carol of the Bells." Whatever you want to call it, PTX does it beautifully!
I didn't know any of this, but sometimes I do a bit of research before reacting. Might as well know what I'm reacting to, if I can. Of course we agree that PTX does it beautifully, I really haven't heard a better version yet.
I hadn't seen this one before...thank you for posting it. There are quite a few videos where Matt's wonderful voice has it's part. I would recommend some, but they are all worth a visit. Keep up the good reactions.
Thank you so much! I am continuously grateful for the support fans give PTX as well as other artists. In this case, I wouldn't have seen it either but for @technodevilexe. I'm sure as I keep discovering more music from PTX there will be quite a few performances where each of them will have a chance to shine.
Some great songs with some Matt solos - O Holy Night, Kiss from a Rose, Your a Mean One, Mr. Grinch. Mitch has definitely had a lot of different looks. He has had a mustache before but then it went away and it came back about 3? Years ago now. I didn’t like it at first but now I do. Love this version of the song and great reaction.
Thank you, Christine! Very glad to hear you enjoyed this! I've only scratched the surface and am yet to hear Avi more than once, but I plan to listen to PTX for a while. So far, I've really enjoyed their style and obviously I'm not the only one. Of course, I jotted down your suggestions for my future reactions. Have a lovely Holiday Season! 🎄🎄🎄
Glad you enjoyed it! I'll keep repeating this until my fingers are numb. This all worked out thanks to @technodevilexe, without them there'd be no reaction. ❤❤❤
Loved your reaction Aleks! Noting escapes your super hearing...Will be waiting for the next PTX reaction. Check out O Holy Night or Hallelujah. Their mash up of Pure Imagination/Christmas Time Is Here is heavenly.
Thank you so much! Not sure about nothing escaping, this was a LOT, but in the best way possible. ❤ The good news is that I did check out Hallelujah and you can find it under the video on the PTX reactions list, alongside The Sound of Silence and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (for now, but the list is growing). Added all other suggestions and I will get to them, slowly but surely. Have a lovely Holiday Season! 🎄🎄🎄
Thanks for this! I love the official video from their early years and have listened to it often, but have never heard a live version and not with Matt. Love it!
@@AleksReacts I hope you enjoy the original video too ( when you eventually get to it). Then you will get to hear it with Avi too. It is great booth ways.
I really enjoyed your reaction to this! I watched them sing it in concert from the front, and I specifically stared at Mitch to see if I could figure out how he was getting air. I still don’t know, lol! Maybe he pulls it in through his hair or something. 😂
You got to hear this LIVE??? I'm guessing half the world is jealous! I realized I don't care how he does it, as long as he keeps doing it. 🤣 You do know you're the 3rd person here we can connect to LotR (we have a lovely lady hobbit and myself, also an elf). Then again, your inspiration may not be Tolkien. Have a lovely Holiday Season! 🎄🎄🎄
I don't even speak Elvish, but even I know what Mae govannen and Mellon means. Thank you kindly for calling me friend. I haven't watched Firefly, as a huge fan of Tolkien, should I?
@ it’s a space western, so it’s not exactly similar other than being another example of speculative fiction, but many of my LotR fan friends also like it and I always recommend it. It was only one season, and it’s disappointing it didn’t get another, but the fans put up such a fuss they were able to release an excellent stand alone major motion picture called “Serenity” with the original cast a few years later that also offered some closure.
It is a joy to listen to them and I'm not even into Christmas and all that. A big welcome to the channel! I hope you'll love the community, as well as future reactions - all wonderful people, really. Not just saying that. Have a lovely Holiday Season! 🎄🎄🎄
Speaking of Carol of the Bells, I would like to point out Geoff Castellucci's latest production, which is very remarkable in terms of arrangement, scenography (in this case a real one, in a castle), vocal expression, editing and production (he had to do it all in 5 hours because the location was rented and cost a lot). Obviously, as usual, he did it all by himself (even though there are five of them) with the help of his wife. th-cam.com/video/0bqiBpRvEwc/w-d-xo.html
Thank you, Vincenzo! This Geoff Castellucci guy keeps popping up, but it seems he's worked with VoicePlay as well as solo. I'm thinking I hear them together first and then see what he's all about on his own (or with the help of his wife). Of course, that only means a delay, not an ignore. I believe Christmas in Italy is now, so to you and yours I wish a very Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎄🎄🎄
@@AleksReacts Yes, Geoff (pronounced Jeff) is one of the founder of Voiceplay and yet are working together. Thanks, and yes in Italy is Christmas too so Merry Christmas to you and hope happy new year 👍
In reply to your statement that this song is not readily available on TH-cam by PTX, I beg to differ. Following is a link to a live performance by PTX in December of 2012, back when they first began performing it (with Avi Kaplan as bass). This is on the CBS show The Talk, which was very popular back then, and if you watch closely, you can see when Mitch takes a breath. It also allows you to compare an Avi bass version with that of Matt. th-cam.com/video/O7BZxBj0Hm8/w-d-xo.html
Perhaps I was unclear, as what I meant was this particular version is the one that was often recommended and this is just the one I could not find (other than in distorted form, not really suitable for a reaction). Of course I could find the official video, so definitely not the song that was missing from YT. Thank you for sharing another version that I didn't come across when searching, especially as it allows for comparison with Avi. 😊 Oh, Mitch has certainly perfected his performance since then. Seems that breathing technique is really, really hard, given that he was really good and the one I watched was beyond reality. Thank you again!
Hi Alex, I know Christmas has passed but I wanted to point out, for your collection, a version of Silent Night/Stille Nacht in Czech (Tichà noc) sung by coloratura soprano Patricia Janeckova recorded 9 years ago. It is meant to be a memory of a very talented singer who two years ago announced in a video that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and that she would be taking a break for treatment. Unfortunately, a year after surgery and chemotherapy she left us at only 25 years old, barely having time to get married. I know, it's a sad story, but life is also made of this and her voice survived. th-cam.com/video/g8uQUPtcvWU/w-d-xo.html
Dear Vincenzo, Christmas has not passed yet, and this year it did not include enough Christmas songs from varied countries. I'm a newbie, so ideas come as I go. However, next year, I'm going to try to include more representatives from other countries, which is only slightly attempted this year. A big plus for me is that I have until Jan 7th to keep listening to Christmas songs, until it really passes in Serbia as well, so 6 more to go this year and thanks to you and some other recommendations, next year it should be an even more colorful Christmas season. Is there an Italian well known Christmas Carol I should include for next year? Something you'd recommend that every Italian knows, ideally in a classic performance that is best known in Italy.
The trend of incorporating the Baroque era into a cappella bands was initiated in the early 1960s by the Swingle Singers, founded by the sister of Michel Legrand (composer of Yentl), who specialized in delightful Bach-inspired arrangements. Personally, I adore the Baroque period (my favorite), tolerate the Classical period, detest the Romantic era, and approach the Contemporary era with great caution. That is to say, this reference to the Baroque and the sparkling quality of their remarkable vocal performance inclined me to appreciate this video more than usual, even though I still prefer vocal groups that combine intense emotional depth with vocal technique, like the heart-wrenching "If I Leave" by Forestella : ❤ th-cam.com/video/ruLxZr-ZN1Q/w-d-xo.html
I wasn't sure if my ears were deceiving me, but it seems not. We partly agree, as seems to be the trend for us. I do love baroque, am ok with the classical period, but unlike you I enjoy the romantic era, while on the contemporary we wholeheartedly agree. That is an excellent description of my approach as well - I expect the best and the worst from it. For this particular song, I actually enjoyed the flawless technique without looking for the emotional aspect of the performance. In fact, that it was flawless allowed my emotions to flow freely instead of follow the ones exhibited by the performers. Although in general, I do prefer to feel/hear emotion in the artist as well, so I understand what you mean, this just fit as is. Oh, and since I have not yet caught up with all the comments and I know there are some of yours to cover, I'll take this opportunity to wish you a cheerful holiday season, in whatever aspect you prefer to enjoy the calm of this period. ❤
@@AleksReacts I wish you, too, excellent celebrations for the end of this year and the beginning of the next… though, beyond theory, it is often hard to determine exactly where the boundary lies between the end and the beginning. Arrabal wrote a beautiful book, "Festivals and Rites of Confusion", which would aptly illustrate the blur of horizons and borders. Why do I prefer emotionless Baroque to Romanticism, yet favor vocal bands with emotion over those without ? Contradiction or paradox ? A mystery !
@Hundhammer I'm going to leave that one to simmer until next year. No rush, as you know... But I have it jotted down for Christmas specifically. Schöne Feiertage! @continentzero7572 I believe it might be because Baroque can be very chaotically emotional, while Romanticism is mushy. Still a mystery, or has it been partly solved? You've made this one a great one for me along with quite a few friends I've made through music this year. ❤❤❤
@@AleksReacts 🥰
Thank you, an enjoyable reaction. To me, it is so impressive to perform a song like this with such great timing. I have no idea how they do it, but they're masters of it.
I have decided that I don't need to know everything. It's enough that I know that I don't know. 🤣 That certainly does not stop me from thoroughly enjoying this immaculate performance. Glad you did too! ❤
@@AleksReacts True, sometimes enjoyment becomes even more pure if we don't know. More mysterious 😉. But I can't imagine this was done without real effort and practice.
There is no way any of this could have worked out without practice. 🤣
Happy Holidays -- Awesome Reaction!
Thank you! Happy Holidays! 🎄🎄🎄
Thanks technodevil 😘
Awesome react ❤
I cannot thank @technodevilexe enough! ❤❤❤
Of course, I'm glad you enjoyed the reaction. ❤
It's a shame this version is no longer on you tube as it is the best.
I agree, it is the best one I've ever heard.
For me one of the best Christmas sounds ever!
Even to a layman it must be clear that this is not possible to work out without every single person "knowing their place in every single second". It is clear that it's a very tough one to perform, let alone live, but they nailed it. I've honestly never, ever heard it performed better.
I'll take your word for it being "a tiny bit better" 🤣
May you and your family have a wonderful Christmas (it's still Dec. 25th) and a very Happy New Year! Most of all, I wish you what you wish for yourself in 2025. 🎄🎄🎄Love to Scotland the Brave from Serbia!❤❤❤
Merry Christmas Peter! Y'all enjoy some beautiful holidays, may the music always be with you! Peace and love from Bavaria ❤
@@Hundhammer Aww, thanks Dominik! You guys have fun there too! Christmas in Bavaria is pretty special! Hugs from Scottyland!
@@peterhowells7309 They have orthodox Christmas like Diana... :)
Lovely! I’d never seen that performance before. Such a treat!
I'm very glad you enjoyed it, hopefully both their live rendition and the reaction. This all worked out thanks to @technodevilexe, without them there'd be no reaction. ❤❤❤
Loved your reaction, and I hope you'll enjoy watching again at your leisure
I sure did, heard it at least 50x so far in just a couple of days and it's not even Christmas over here. 🤣 I'm a tad bit obsessive like that, if I hear something I like I play it on repeat. Hope you've had a lovely Christmas Day and wishing you a Happy New Year too! 🎄🎄🎄
Wow... all I can say is magical!🤩 I love the tree 🌲
And a continued thanks to @technodevilexe for being kind enough to share this with me, so I can share it with all of you.
That was perfection. I enjoyed that very much...Thank you! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas Aleks.
Thank you! About their performance, I agree, perfection indeed. A Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours! 🎄🎄🎄
YES!!! My favorite version of this! Too bad it’s only available during the month of December on BYUtv (but thankful they still do make it available)!
Obviously, we agree! This was excellent in every way possible! ❤❤❤
Really enjoyed seeing this recording of the song - have only viewed the older official video. Thrilling! Thank you for your reaction ❤🎄
Love it!
Thank you! I'm yet to listen to the official version, kind of got stuck on this one after reacting to it. ❤ Obviously, we both love it!
@@AleksReacts I hope you enjoy the original video too ( when you eventually get to it). Then you will get to hear it with Avi too. It is great booth ways.
Enjoyed the reaction and the music!!
Thank you, Dave! 😊
I really enjoyed your reaction to this! I watched them sing it in concert from the front, and I specifically stared at Mitch to see if I could figure out how he was getting air. I still don’t know, lol! Maybe he pulls it in through his hair or something. 😂
It’s his skin…like an amphibian 😜
You got to hear this LIVE??? I'm guessing half the world is jealous! I realized I don't care how he does it, as long as he keeps doing it. 🤣 You do know you're the 3rd person here we can connect to LotR (we have a lovely lady hobbit and myself, also an elf). Then again, your inspiration may not be Tolkien. Have a lovely Holiday Season! 🎄🎄🎄
@ Shiny is from Firefly, and Elfriend is absolutely definitely Tolkien! Mae govannen mellon!
Thank you for appreciating their talent. Merry Christmas. I look forward to seeing more PTX reactions. I just subbed.
It is a joy to listen to them and I'm not even into Christmas and all that. A big welcome to the channel! I hope you'll love the community, as well as future reactions - all wonderful people, really. Not just saying that. Have a lovely Holiday Season! 🎄🎄🎄
Recommend their liv performance video of Kiss From A Rose.
Thank you! Added to the list.
@@AleksReacts Buon natale!
Oh, Mitch has certainly perfected his performance since then. Seems that breathing technique is really, really hard, given that he was really good and the one I watched was beyond reality. Thank you again!
Can Mitch circular-breathe?
Anything is possible, right? 🤣
This is produced. You hear zero breaths
I know I hear zero breaths, but would PTX really call it live if it was heavily produced?
@@AleksReacts For the Italian Christmas carol I answered you in the reaction a few days ago (in Angelina Jordan reaction)
I'll try to find it, it's getting a bit overwhelming, but I'm still kind of keeping up. Thank you so much!
A mystery !
@@AleksReacts Joyeux noël
@@Hundhammer Maligayang Pasko sa inyo. Yes, a joyful tattooed princess, our Gigi.
Joyeuses fêtes!
Happy Holidays to you both! 🎄🎄🎄
