    Mitch has gills? another conspiracy theory arises 👀 Kirstie holding down the entire middle with her gorgeous alto voice. Matt and Kevin building the entire structure and Scott doing what he does best...everything. This was phenomenal! Great reaction/analysis.

    This was the first time I'd seen Matt do a song that was originally arranged with Avi in mind (there's a video of it on the PTX channel, I think), and I think he did really well! It's gotta be a challenge to sing a song designed for a totally different person's voice and style of singing.

    My daughter and I refer to this as the “Mitch fish” song because the ONLY explanation here is gills. 🤣🤣

    And the fact that they aren’t looking at each other is something that people mention that they like but it is so difficult to not be looking at your fellow singers for all your queues when there are so many moving parts like that it’s so impressive and so good

    “Carol of the Bells” is my favorite Christmas song. We did it in choir in high school and it is not easy even with so many voices to cover your mistakes. Having only the five voices is just amazing. They did a exceedingly good job with it. My favorite version though is still the Mormon Tabernacle Choir from the 1960s. My Christmas playlist is starts with all the versions of “Carol of the Bells” that I have - Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Pentatonix, Lindsey Stirling, and Manheim Steamroller. Every single one is different.

    ✌😀They originally did this song with Avi (check official video) this is why Matt is talking about practicing a lot . He absolutely nailed his part!

    I must hold my breath listening because by the end of this song, I'm always feeling a little out of breath myself!❤

    This performance is a testament to their experience and skill, but you should check out the original official video. It's from 2012, when they were all fresh off the Sing Off and just getting started. This performance might be just a little more polished, but they were knocking it out of the park nine years ago.

    Love this & all your reactions. I have a question about breath support...is it harder to hold out a single note or do what Mitch did or are they the same? Because I personally feel like the rapid fire words would be harder but, I am not a singer & have no clue. Happy Holidays!

      Good Question. 🤔

    • @elizabethfelet4743
      @elizabethfelet4743 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      there is a slight, and I mean slight advantage to what Mitch is doing because there is are very, very tiny spots where he can take an almost imperceptible breaths. And, as his breath support starts to wane, because he is moving he can change his pitch to match. Holding a single note for a very long time means you have to maintain perfect pitch - even tiny variances in pitch can be heard and sometimes they will stick out like a sore thumb.

    • @IamTigger-qe4up
      @IamTigger-qe4up 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elizabethfelet4743 thank you for that information. I know nothing about singing or breath support. It just seemed harder to me cause the enunciation is constantly changing.

    • @creativecrewfam
      @creativecrewfam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      In my opinion, and pretty similar to what Elizabeth said, is that it’s harder to hold a single note. You have to maintain pitch and ask the question of should I add vibrato or not because that will change the precision as well. Where’s the sweet spot? With moving lines, you’re not necessarily having to find the “drop and lock” position like you would for a single note. With that said, moving lines require an insanely good ear, agility that is free and 0% tense, and crazy pitch accuracy. Both are difficult in their own right, but it honestly boils down to the person and their voice. For me, I can belt a note for days before I can do moving lines, not because of pitch accuracy but because I haven’t worked on agility as much as breath support and ear training.

    I'm surprised that you didn't pick up on the fact that the intro and especially the final half of the song was arranged in 3 & 4 voice counterpoint. So few modern song arrangements utilize counterpoint I thought theory and music teachers would be more happy to hear 4th & 5th species 3 & 4 voice counterpoints in modern arrangements. :)

    Pentatonix are basically the Acapella class president. Polished and professional presentation, smooth and very 'finished'.
    Home Free are the tailgate party. Lots of skill buried under tons of fun and laughs and good times.
    Voiceplay are the theater kids. SO crazy GOOD at everything they do, and doing their own thing hanging around in the background except when they're on stage.
    I love all three groups. LOL. They're all wonderful.
    This arrangement was really good. Totally, Mitch just tried to convince us all that he's something more than human and doesn't require oxygen! LOL. (Yes, I know he's breathing. But still! Holy crap the control he has!!)
    Love that full alto middle sound, too. And OMG the bass line on this! Does not get enough credit. Just my thoughts. :)

    Chris, listen to “Libera”. Since you teach, then you should enjoy this boys choir. They are hands down the best boys choir in the world. Yes, much better that Vienna Boy’s Choir.
    Libera - “Carol of the Bells”, “Ding, Dong, Merrily on High”, “Sanctus”, “Salva Me””walking in the air,”, but one of my favorites is “Cum Dederit” original go ally by Vivaldi’s “Nisi Dominus”. Boy’s soloist is Dominik Clarke and well just see for yourself.

  • @edsartistry
    @edsartistry 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    When Mitch starts singing the lyrics is where you really need to pay attention to his lack of breathing. He must have fish lungs that take up more than half of his body. 😯 Kevin is right, if you don't know your individual part really, really well things could go very wrong. This song really shows their talent in a huge way. After this song and "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies" they have definitely proven there is NOTHING they can't do . And THAT is why they are the TOP a cappella group.

      @@creativecrewfam you mean Matt sang it. As he has been singing as Avi's replacement on everything they sing that goes back to the first 6 years.
      Nothing new at all in that.
      Matt does sing some nice new arrangements done for him and around his vocal strengths that you might try instead like The Grinch.
