If you need a substitute for it, get Bluesky. You can customize what you see and the system for the most part won’t shovel crap down your mouth since its algorithm is fairly limited, people on there so far are decent nothing to complain about frankly. Dont wanna see politics at all? You can customize that option. Avoid fights online, even if it’s nut jobs saying crazy stuff. Half of the time they’re trolls who only want a reaction out of you, the other half will most likely lead you into a multiple day long argument with no end. Even if some one is genuine, an internet fight even if you have all the data isn’t worth your time, it rarely changes anyone’s mind not matter how objectively right or wrong you or they are. Say your peace and go about your day. You could go cold turkey all together and respectfully just touch grass, purge your phone of all social media, if not your phone as well, get active in the outside world. If you’re into politics organize. If you’re not, do things that’ll give you peace in mind. If you’re a TH-cam junky like me, find channels you resonate with but do not get attached, rookie mistake. For me there’s been a trend of smaller channels popping up in my feed, between a couple hundred and a couple thousand subscribers, make great content even for how small they are. Sometimes they remind of old TH-cam where they talk about their life or rant bout something on their mind and stuff. Stay away from short video content/tiktoc style content. You may come in only for one video but before you know it you’ll be hundreds of videos into a rabbit hole. No Doom scrolling, period.

That comment about latin America is surely a jab at Brazil's public ministry, which shut down Twitter for a few weeks after Twitter decided to ignore some brazilian laws regarding how the company is run
On the rare times I use Facebook anymore, I already find the amount of hate speech unbearable. I can't imagine what the combo of AI slop plus less content monitoring will have the site looking like.
"High severity violations". Like every time you post a (legal Spotify or TH-cam Music) link to a 70s rock album with a naked breast on it, it gets taken down within minutes. Racism is fine, but we can't have links to Jimi Hendrix songs.
Worse than that, Racism and Genderphobia is now perfectly fine for the platforme (except if it's illegal by the laws of where you live. But you can post it without problem from the platform)
Most people can't even consume a 3 minute video without 2 videos and catchy sentences every 10 seconds to keep their attention. Imagine fighting for something collectively
I read through all the comments but I didn't see anyone say, the system you're describing is called a monopsony. It's a situation where there is only one buyer but many sellers.
I've been stuck with Facebook all these years because peer support groups and even patient organizations have moved their entire internet presences there. It's exactly the AI slop & ad filled hellhole you'd expect. That makes me suspect one major motivator for Zucc was to enable forcing more and more AI generated content down everyone's throat. Meta is really banking on AI getting normalized, and that will mean a lot more AI generated fakes and chatbot profiles you can't tell from real content, not to mention the inherent unreliability of gen AI. If there's no fact checking, though...
Without effective fact-checking the only way we'll be able to tell the difference between AI hallucinations and MAGA lies is that the MAGA profile pics will still be drawn in crayon.
I left Facebook 12-years ago, and over time social media feels more and more parasitic and unhealthy from my perspective. I recommend everybody try leaving, maybe you’ll get to where I am, and rejoining such a toxic cesspool feels inherently distasteful.
Instagram is heavily controlled if you're not conservative. Anything positive towards bodies that aren't slim and tall are regularly moderated, information on peoples bodies are controlled heavily.
It's not just "progressive content" (the quotes are there because I don't think labeling certain type of bodies are pogressive or conservative is a good thing to do). It also masks messages that are clearly harrassment. However, Instagram is also designed to get you to engage, and you engage more if you're angry, which is why Instagram loves showing trans content to transphobe.
he's only one step removed from the days when he had 24 identical grey T-Shirts so that he never had a decision to make about what to wear on any given day.
As someone who runs a Facebook group; the solution to being crap at moderation is not to do less. It's to do it better (And not just use shitty AI which is keyword based and terrible). The official Facebook admin channel this news did not go down well and they had to close off comments.
Makes me wonder if theyre predicting the end of advertisers subsidizing these platforms. I think controlling the narrative is more profitable at this moment for them than advertisers. Twitter lost 80% of its value, but Musk gained more than that the first day of trump winning through stock appreciation of his various other companies (spaceX is private for now, but definitely gained value given his greater control of the political landscape). Perhaps they are seeking to diversify their portfolios in a similar fashion and only rely on their social media arm to control the general populations thoughts and opinions.
Advertisers were willing to pull out of Twitter because it's smaller than other major social media platforms, and they didn't generally spend that much money there to begin with. Same isn't true of Facebook, and the political moment is different now too.
Obviously he's trying to appeal to a certain audience, but to the average person, dialing back moderation in order to allow more definitionally reprehensible content is not going to make them want to go on Instagram/fb
Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg remind me of that 80s movie "Can't buy me love". Nerds who use their money to buy into cool and in the end everyone including their nerd pals hate them.
You hate the Zucc because he wants to become the next Elon Musk. I hate the Zucc because he attended the $600 million wedding in India and became a ‘watch aficionado’ right after. We are not the same.
I think one of the biggest ironies here is that we are entering an era where Meta no longer has to rely on filters ro remove content as they now have powerful AIs that could do a significantly better job at flagging harmful content, yet they choose to go backwards with the solution? Things that make you go hmmmm
Facebook is already absolutely horrific. If it wasn't for a few niche groups I need access to i would happily get rid of it. My prediction based on these actions is that a lot of people will just leave
I did a "deactivate except for messenger". I do have a few friends and family members that message me on there that I care about and it's a lot of trouble to make them switch. But I don't think I need an endless feed of advertising, AI, and everyone's hateful views.
Extreme centrism is thinking everything needs to be exactly in the center and any deviation from that is bad. If a centrist police jailed conservatives and liberals for the sake of moderates then most would call that extreme.
I have tried deleting my accounts over the years, multiple times and even though it will take me almost 20 mins to get it figured out, my account is never truly deleted.
I opted to deactivate but not delete my account, that way someone else can't try to steal my identity on Facebook. Not that I'm famous or anything but I've heard of people getting their identities stolen by scammers trying to target your family and friends if you totally deactivate your account. if you just deactivate you'll still be in the friends list of people you knew so they will know it's not the "real you" on the off chance it happens. You can't post or go on your account while it's deactivated, so I still think it sends the same message to Facebook that I am not interested in their content and I'm not helping them monetarily because I'm not interacting with any of their advertisers.
This is pathetic, even for zuck. Wtf does he think he should have a say in how foreign countries run themselves? Not every country has pur free speech ideas.
Not onlly submitting to TFG but also to Elon Musk. They, all 3, probably divided up the netscape amongst themselves. Corporate bs at its best. Oligarchy strikes again.
Also feel like it's not a coincidence he's acting like this while TikTok is on the way of being banned from the US, mainly because the US doesn't have control of its contents, so he's advertising that he's willing to cater his version of TikTok (Instagram reels) for Republican media control.
From my conversations with Americans and fascists from elsewhere, I compiled a bunch of conclusions: - "Freedom is when corporations are free to do as they please" (corporations, after all, are people - and unlike actual people, they can afford their rights) - "Censorship is when the rich can't say slurs" (Meta officially answered that you can, indeed, call for removal of [t-slur] from schools) - "Every racialized immigrant is illegal, regardless of documentation" (this particular one is Spanish)
If you want to remove perceived bias from your teams, place them in Wisconsin. Going from California to Texas is just flipping the same shit coin to its other side.
If you make decisions on what does and does not get published/promoted on your platform, and make decisions on what individual users see - that makes you a publisher in my mind, and should be regulated as such.
Its time to build community in our towns and cities. Reach out to your community centres and the activist groups in your area. Its far .ore fulfilling and more effectual than using these dying social medias.
19:21 I genuinely think this, right here, is the key motivation here. Trump’s flip-flop to supporting Tik Tok, rather than supporting a ban on it, has been in part (in his own words) out of a resentment that Meta in particular would benefit from people moving to Instagram Reels. If Zuck cozies up to Trump, maybe (Zuck might think) Trump will cool it with the support for Tik Tok. It’s in service of regulatory capture.
Who says that's not who he is trying to emulate ? I could very well see a new civil war between the Consuls of the American Republic, Lord Musk, Lord Zuck and Lord Bezos, ending in one of them winning over the others and declaring the birth of a new Empire...

I was shocked at how much Zuck folded, but my first thought before watching this is still true, this is a good excuse to reduce wages costs to moderate
Will he be able to apply these same 'freedoms' to the UK though? Our rules on free speech aren't the same as the US. Hopefully, the UK government is going to make all media outlets responsible for their content, so if racism etc is rife on any platform - regardless of who posts - then the company is liable...

O Xandão já pediu explicações pro Zucc sobre isso 🤣🤣🤣🤣
On the rare times I use Facebook anymore, I already find the amount of hate speech unbearable. I can't imagine what the combo of AI slop plus less content monitoring will have the site looking like.
Texas should be renamed Notaxes
"High severity violations". Like every time you post a (legal Spotify or TH-cam Music) link to a 70s rock album with a naked breast on it, it gets taken down within minutes. Racism is fine, but we can't have links to Jimi Hendrix songs.
Worse than that, Racism and Genderphobia is now perfectly fine for the platforme (except if it's illegal by the laws of where you live. But you can post it without problem from the platform)
Revolutions need to happen
we need to organizing and build for us to win one. Wr are NOT ready yet
Most people can't even consume a 3 minute video without 2 videos and catchy sentences every 10 seconds to keep their attention. Imagine fighting for something collectively
I think it is high time this continent of ours banned Twitter, Meta and TikTok.
whats Tik Tok doing wrong?

Your billionaires are upset they can't run a surveillance state as intrusive as the one in the USA.
Elon Musk was named after protagonist 'The Elon' from a scifi novel written by former nazi rocket scientist Wernher von Braun.

I only use failbook for the free online marketplace, but even that's sh*t now, full of ads, bots and scammers.
I read through all the comments but I didn't see anyone say, the system you're describing is called a monopsony. It's a situation where there is only one buyer but many sellers.
A foreign concept to most of us.
so basically Muskification will be the analogue to enshittification but for people.
Billionaires should not exist.
Tax the rich.
the state shouldnt either, and believing the state will help us is naive. We need to organise ourselves.
Thanks for dropping the background music. It makes a BIG difference.

Instagram is heavily controlled if you're not conservative. Anything positive towards bodies that aren't slim and tall are regularly moderated, information on peoples bodies are controlled heavily.
they really are keeping fat people down, it's a conspiracy
I can't hear your mumbles through that mouthful of fries you're inhaling lol
Throw in anything that is lgbtqia+
Instagram made so many people worldwide anorectic it's crazy how they can keep getting away with it
It's not just "progressive content" (the quotes are there because I don't think labeling certain type of bodies are pogressive or conservative is a good thing to do). It also masks messages that are clearly harrassment.
However, Instagram is also designed to get you to engage, and you engage more if you're angry, which is why Instagram loves showing trans content to transphobe.

As someone who runs a Facebook group; the solution to being crap at moderation is not to do less. It's to do it better (And not just use shitty AI which is keyword based and terrible). The official Facebook admin channel this news did not go down well and they had to close off comments.
It's absolutely INSANE how you people are literally reliant on a government backed entity that CENSORS people.
Do you understand how insane that is?
Why is Zuck not worried about advertisers?
He's going to make fake AI users to bulk out numbers. Literally their plan. Dead internet theory is being made manifest.
It's a gamble he can make. If he loses everything he'll still live a comfortable life being a right-wing troll, only his employees will feel the fall.
Obviously he's trying to appeal to a certain audience, but to the average person, dialing back moderation in order to allow more definitionally reprehensible content is not going to make them want to go on Instagram/fb
Should we be looking forward to more videos in the coming days? Keep up the momentum....
That’s the plan! A couple a week!
Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg remind me of that 80s movie "Can't buy me love". Nerds who use their money to buy into cool and in the end everyone including their nerd pals hate them.
Facebook STILL refuses to take down comments about "Austrian Painter" for inciting hatred or violence
You hate the Zucc because he wants to become the next Elon Musk.
I hate the Zucc because he attended the $600 million wedding in India and became a ‘watch aficionado’ right after.

different ideas, yah, ideas like "these people I don't like are degenerate"
Zuckerberg must think he's so smart and we are so dumb!
I think one of the biggest ironies here is that we are entering an era where Meta no longer has to rely on filters ro remove content as they now have powerful AIs that could do a significantly better job at flagging harmful content, yet they choose to go backwards with the solution? Things that make you go hmmmm
This is the strangest hostage video I’ve ever seen
Facebook is already absolutely horrific. If it wasn't for a few niche groups I need access to i would happily get rid of it. My prediction based on these actions is that a lot of people will just leave
I did a "deactivate except for messenger". I do have a few friends and family members that message me on there that I care about and it's a lot of trouble to make them switch.
But I don't think I need an endless feed of advertising, AI, and everyone's hateful views.
Let's see if we are allowed to post pro Palestinian content

Facebook had discussion boards back in the day, and they were great. If he hadn't scrapped those, Twitter/X would never have become a thing.

Oh sorry I thought you meant centrist was a new extreme
Extreme centrism is thinking everything needs to be exactly in the center and any deviation from that is bad.
If a centrist police jailed conservatives and liberals for the sake of moderates then most would call that extreme.
How do you look 25 and 45 at the same time

watching zuck clumsily trying to recapture marketshare in anticipation of tiktok being banned is hilarious
I haven't used my facebook account in several years now. I think it's time to just delete it.
And it is HARD to delete it!!!!
Not every country has pur free speech ideas.
this isnt free speech. Stop giving them that term.
Eric Zuckermusk looks different here.
From my conversations with Americans and fascists from elsewhere, I compiled a bunch of conclusions:
- "Freedom is when corporations are free to do as they please" (corporations, after all, are people - and unlike actual people, they can afford their rights)
- "Censorship is when the rich can't say slurs" (Meta officially answered that you can, indeed, call for removal of [t-slur] from schools)
- "Every racialized immigrant is illegal, regardless of documentation" (this particular one is Spanish)
If you want to remove perceived bias from your teams, place them in Wisconsin. Going from California to Texas is just flipping the same shit coin to its other side.

I feel like we're gonna turn into Russia real fast 😭
If you make decisions on what does and does not get published/promoted on your platform, and make decisions on what individual users see - that makes you a publisher in my mind, and should be regulated as such.

I love how Tom gets a frickin Lego ad. 😂
We're in trouble. Big, BIG challenges ahead.
Get a better perm Mark, you look like Caligula
Who says that's not who he is trying to emulate ? I could very well see a new civil war between the Consuls of the American Republic, Lord Musk, Lord Zuck and Lord Bezos, ending in one of them winning over the others and declaring the birth of a new Empire...
Community Notes on FB is going to be mental
I signed up to do Community Notes on Twitter/X and it is absolutely chaos on there and the lag is sooo slow as the notes have to be verified by other community members.
Also just seems to be a way to not pay people to do this job, removing the responsibility from the company and onto the 'community'

Will he be able to apply these same 'freedoms' to the UK though? Our rules on free speech aren't the same as the US. Hopefully, the UK government is going to make all media outlets responsible for their content, so if racism etc is rife on any platform - regardless of who posts - then the company is liable...
Regardless, I've deleted my Instagram and Threads account and won't be using Facebook. Unfortunately, WhatsApp is a useful tool so I'm keeping it. Fortunately, I don't think it makes Zuckerberg any money, so there's that.
Nope. He would be punished by fines like X is.
