Agreed. I'm tired of "PR training" being used as a crutch for how media corporations basically make these celebrities have to act like robots just to keep their bag secured.
That’s literally the first thing I thought. Stan culture has been around for decades but with how popular kpop is today, people see that everything idols do is curated for the image companies want them to portray, and people are trying to apply that too western artists now….

It does suck to see authentic celebs have to essentially be 'toned down' for the masses, but tbh I do think that media training is vital for the job - not even as a means of controlling the narrative or what have you, but as a safety measure. Sad to say, but the public def seems to think that a celebrity becomes public property when they become famous. It's obviously not right, but we all have to remember that 'the public' is comprised of everyone from every walk of life, including many, many people that simply do not care to understand nuance, or are willing to act in bad faith in interpreting what these celebs say. In the same way that sarcasm or ironic joke statements are hard to understand over text, celebs need to be able to protect their own image, and unfortunately one of the only ways to do that is by being very careful with what they say.
I agree with most of this but including Blake Lively is a miss. Tone deaf, rude, out of touch and failing to address the serious topic of the movie, which is problematic AF to begin with. It’s dangerous to normalize and be so light hearted about something as serious as DV as a public figure. That’s not media training that’s common sense

We don’t need to be confusing or excusing people with genuinely horrible values and character traits by saying “oh, so people can’t have a personality anymore??” They can, just not a horrible one. This seems like an obvious notion…
I think Blake Lively is older and had a pre-curated image that people felt she broke the illusion of really harshly and people found it jarring. I don't think it's quite the same as Rachel Ziegler or Chappel Roan since those women are younger while Blake has experience. 😂 So yeah, with Blake starting in a movie about DV I think it was fair for people to expect some tenderness and seriousness instead of the weird flippant vibe she was giving the press tour.
