@peachcookie6624 I feel like that's a pretty negative take. It is true, some people will only echo it as long as it's a trend, but for some it has the potential to become a mindset. & to me those little wins are netter than no wins at all. In an ideal world, yeah, everyone would change their mindset & stop overconsumption on their own, but the fact is this is a less than ideal world in so many regards. But your perspective is up to you. Either take the small wins as they come, or focus on what we still lack and focus on the larger losses. Or a bit of both
It's the same push to be mindful of your consumption repackaged under a different name, and as long as it gets more people thinking about their spending habits and impact on the environment I'm all for it. I just want it to create lasting change, instead of being just another buzzword to be tossed out and forgotten.
Girl really said "office siren" like babe that's just called being dressed inappropriately for the workplace, you are not Julia Roberts and this is not a movie
As a fellow office woman, I HATE that trend like bbygirl ion know what corner of the internet lied to you saying a cropped blazer miniskirt set is standard, but you’re not the main character here, you’re breaking dress code and having grown ass married men break the code of ethics.
@@niasemii I think the implication of “office siren” is that this is how a woman should dress in order to be “the hot woman at the office” (think Julia Roberts in some of her movies or Joan from Mad Men), and it’s not, it is how you get sent home to change or fired, because, again, real life isn’t a movie. If it’s just a “look” intended to be worn on the street, then sure, but I don’t think that’s what is intended.
I think there's good and bad sides to this trend. I like that it might combat the ridiculous culture of hauls, fast-fashion overconsumption, and constant buying into the evolving trends and "cores" of tiktok. I'd say it's a bit different than minimalism that millennials made popular in that it isn't always advocating for getting rid of things or being super bare and neutral. It's an extension of the deinfluencing trend that's been going around too. What you have is good and serves you well, you don't need to buy things you didn't need until you saw it on tiktok. However, I think that it is also at risk of being forgotten and moved-on from just like every other trend if people don't truly understand that over-consumption is bad for their wallets and the environment/society. Under-consumption is really just normal consumption but we've become so used to over-consumption that it seems like a big jump.

I think when it comes to people labeling things like this as an aesthetic or core it’s because they’re trying to picture themselves from the outside in. to act the way they want to they must imagine the outside image of that. and outside image has always been considered aesthetic and such. i would say it’s like making a character of yourself and imagining how something like underconsumption looks in your life and assigning yourself to follow that rubric. people probably use social media to look into what underconsumption looks like- heavy emphasis on that last part.

Yess, so many videos on this in the last few days and not enough are linking it to minimalism properly. I do wonder if people are put off 'minimalism' as a term because of the cold white wall decor style
Ngl - I would probably murder for a small walk-in freezer. Spent the last four years in a rental with a freezer that gets filled with four bags of frozen veggies and I miss being able to meal prep in bulk. The amount time i need to spend on cooking and prep to avoid food waste while eating healthy is exhausting. I just want to spend a weekend cooking soups, stews, sauces, and other freezer meals, thaw one chunk of something a week and just relax for the month, adding in fresh produce and freshly cooked grains. 😅 Tl;dr TIME is the luxury I really miss
This I wouldn't consider excessive if one was able to get. I would adore this, too. I got used to having my own fridge and now I don't and am on the hunt for a chest freezer as it will help my family. Being able to meal prep more as I work a lot of hours (hospital NOCs) and this would keep the guess work out of what I will eat at work. Unfortunately, "some" in this movement would akin it to being an over consumer, when it's not. It's helping me stay healthy and I need that with my medical issues. Better than expensive grab and go because I am too exhausted to cook much. Thought have been bringinf my rice cooker to work with one pot meals in it. Game changer.
I worry that because its a trend, people will get bored of it and move on, as they do with all trends. I hope this one sticks around (sun emoji) also, I'm obsessed with your hair! It's so cute!!
You know I've been noticing this all over my YT feed. Click right away because it finally made sense. Now we have underconsumption influencers. I wonder who underconsumes the most. 😂
I’ll take aestheticizing being normal over making waste and overconsumption normalized! I’m ready for a shift, I’ve been on a super low buy and it’s so nice
sun emoji lol (I can't actually type a real one :P) I'm just glad this will get people thinking about reducing their consumption. I think it's normal for children and young people to want categories so they can feel like they belong and have acceptance. Nuance, self-assurance and integrity of your own beliefs come with age.
one trend i actually like (and can participate in!) i really like this shift towards underconsumption and i've been doing the #shopmystash where we rotate products from our own inventory each week so it feels like we're using new makeup to avoid the desire to buy new ones
Im excited for this, im 29 and for a couple years ive been disconected from beauty and other social media stuff cuz i didnt feel it aligned with my views, this is up my alley now and im so excited and happy for this. I had my makeup addiction for like a couple years and YEARs later still have the collection that i cant use all. :) so ive not bought any makeup besides the regular stuff u gotta replace after a certain amount of time ( mascara and stuff) but underconsumption is a breath of fresh air
This was a wonderful commentary. I disagree that flex culture started from Black culture. Keeping up with the Joneses has been a thing all the way since 1913, and flexing outrageous wealth has been a thing long before that.
I'd never followed a lot of people on YT or social media until maybe a couple years ago. That is about the same time I stopped following some of the larger influencers. I found many of the smaller channels far more relatable. I love to see what people like me are using to clean their house and how they do it, or how people get the most out of their products and belongings.
🌞🌞🌞I definitely went through my overconsumption period. Now that I’m retired and not buying clothes, makeup ect I feel so much better! I’m using what I have and actually decluttering.
New subscriber 🌞 happy to see some other commentary on this and you brought up some things others really haven't. I went to college and got licensed to be an RN (currently working in acute care inpatient psych). So i make decent money. I sont really worry about paying my bills or whatever. I dont really want for much. I still cut open toothpaste tubes and repurpose stuff. I spent a good amount of my 20s into early 30s couchsurfing, living in my car, or temp apartments. I had grandparents who were raised during the great depression and my parents (big ups to my pops who passed some years ago mow) who were raised in immediate during WW2 and Vietnam War eras. I geew up with hearty farming and "we made do with what we had" folks. I hold thoae values close to my heart as its all i know and lived more od my life not having much than how i am now. My dear Taller Half is the same. We have a comfortable life, but we still work hard and remembee where we came from. We try to excessiveness to a minimum; quality over quantity is the rule in our home.
Please normalise this and not label it as a “core”. Under consuming could mean fast fashion brands actually shifting to create great quality products again and less pollution!! Let’s all start doing this ❤❤
Love it!! Although as a "gen z-er" I do disagree with the idea at 14:30ish that the younger generation needs something to be an aesthetic/-core to participate or follow it, I think it has wayyy more to do with what algorithms favor and how things can more easily gain traction online with searchable terms like "underconsumptioncore", regardless of the generation participating. It's mainly a symptom of the algorithm
When youtube just started, thats exactly what bloggers were - relatable everyodat people. By the time gen Z started using social media, the OG TH-cam creators who got rich and famous have become unrelatable, but they also served as an inspiration and aspiration for a new generation of content creators. While the pendulum may seem to be swinging back to relatable content, the masses were always interested in the lives of celebrities, and of course every infoyencer dreams of becoming rich wnd famous through their content, so for better or for worse this excessive consumption and bragging isn't going anywhere.
Ngl I really don't like Zoe unlimited. I loved a couple vids like her Emma C one, but I thought u touched on exactly what she failed to grasp in her trad wife one. Her analysis of nara was basically "people are jealous of her and that's why they don't like her" but it's like, if I said that ab the Kardashians or even other influencers you'd see thru that argument right away and see why it's a cop out. I liked ur use of the word soft flex bc that'd exactly how her and Ballerina Farm feel

I feel like while having something to incentivize consuming less is probably good it also feels like partly misery pr0wn (misspelled on purpose) and partly "slumming it" from the past. Like tourism? It'll probably continue for a while, but it's likely got a shelf life similar to the last minimalism fad. Soo... 3 years or so. For other similar trends compare "pre stressed jeans" I'm on a phone so... lets try :sun:

The fact that it takes adding -core to the end of anything makes it trendy just sends me... Underconsumption is great, now how about volunteercore, votercore, pro-choicecore, goodparentingcore, and investing-in-educationcore?
This exact trend comes and goes, minimalism by any other name...it'll be gone in a week and we'll be back to restocking all of those shelves and drawers we just cleared out
☀️ Thanks for the video! I think flexing should go back to when rich people commissioned oil paintings of big cows they owned, much more interesting imho 🐄
Part of me feels like the Stanley Cup craze is a big part of what started the 'new' trend. People realized it's wasteful and saw the heat people were taking for having so many cups they will never use.
Your hair looks very nice, and side note I think we the world could change for the better if there was a trend for it. Kinda of like those old head memes where it’s like #jumpoffabridgechallenge and then the kids do it, like a legit Mr beast recycling challenge would be crazy
I think things like this have to become a “trend” to be acceptable because of the lack of safety many of us feel for being human/ourselves. If I see someone living a life similar to me then I feel “safe” and accepted. As a generation, we’re always trying to find ways to fit in and unfortunately trends are ways for us to feel noticed when at the end of the day, we are all worthy of being seen just by being ourselves. It sucks because for as long social media exists, being “normal” won’t always feel comfortable and safe, and who knows what the next trend will be where being a simple human is looked down upon again. I will say, I feel like the “under-consumption core” stems from the “I’m just a girl” trend, where girls were able to share their truth/reality that felt comforting to other girls who are similar, which is great! BUT all of these trends are catered mostly to women and I think that’s where the problem lies because we’ll always be finding ways to feel safe/accepted in a society that feeds off of our consumption regardless of how big or small it is. At the end of the day, womanhood is constantly being juiced into different trends and used for companies to benefit off of which really makes me wonder when we’ll be able to truly just be our authentic selves because we feel safe to😅
I think some people may take it seriously but to me the name is ironic right? Like “underconsumption core” but the joke is it’s just a normal person living their normal life
☀hopefully this doesn't come off as a ginormous rant but I don't understand why everything has to have "core" or "aesthetic" slapped onto it...and these aesthetics are getting more and more ridiculous---I didn't even know what an "office siren" is, like...???? And even though I can't stay off social media like I'd like to, because that's where I mainly show my artwork, I just really wish I could unsee these so called "influencers" and what they think is luxurious, attractive, cute, whatever the case is🤦🏾♀🤦🏾♀
its sad how materialistic american society is, and since the country is powerful, smaller countries "look up" to this type of lifestyles, which are unattainable for more than half of the population of the earth 😂
I feel like calling it an aesthetic/-core is being mostly ironic - like yeah, most ppl live like this, and we hate overconsumption, let’s call it underconsumption-core then lmao
celeb/people try to build a tank to cover their natural self by flex and possession, and when viewer fed up with the content, they sway into a quiet luxury, under-consumption core. overall, human are all human pleaser
Not every collection is over consumption it depends on the reason for buying it. I collect several things like MLP, meemeows, cans that i like, Taylor swift, dead things i find and turn into displays.
I appreciate what under-consumption core is trying to do, but it is still being MARKETED to us as a trend, which almost guarantees it will not be sustainable. It doesn't present itself as a movement to me. It's the re-marketing of being normal
Under consumption core is literally just being a normal person😂. But it being an aesthetic is just wilddd what a time we live in man

Tl;dr TIME is the luxury I really miss
This sounds like heaven 😩 freezers really do need to be bigger
I had to get off tiktok i was toontowning myself into the internet fr! thank you for being such a breath of fresh air
We used to call it cheapskate instead of under-consumption core… 💰. 🌞
i feel like underconsumption is just living regularly
I worry that because its a trend, people will get bored of it and move on, as they do with all trends. I hope this one sticks around (sun emoji)
also, I'm obsessed with your hair! It's so cute!!
🌞yeah I’m hoping this one sticks, but it is giving minimalism for gen z. Thanks for watching
People who hate on frozen food are idiots. Its the best way to prevent food waste and save money.
You know I've been noticing this all over my YT feed. Click right away because it finally made sense. Now we have underconsumption influencers. I wonder who underconsumes the most. 😂
I'm an elder millennial 😂 So I remember the show "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" from the 80's 😬
Gen z is broke and are getting to the age where you get kicked off the family insurance. The esthetic here, is finally adulting
I’m so glad you talking about this cause it made me cringe like why is everything a trend?
Definitely behind this tread 🌞
Love to see the plebeian lifestyle getting some recognition. ☀️
Enjoyed this. Great points and observations.
God, your hair is so gorgeous ❤
I just found you channel recently and I love your videos!
Building trees to grow vegetables. Interesting 😄
Sorry, had to comment, now ill finish the rest of the video 🤗
🌞i really hope it sticks around i love seeing ideas for stuff that you can find and use.
Thank you for the video, really enjoyed listening to you 💌
Loved this video & also that bob length looks amazing on you ☀️🌞⛅️
Your hair looks amazing 🤩🤩🤩
sun emoji! I liked this video a lot and I hope at least people approach luxury items in the under-consumption way... in general being more intentional with consumption
☀️ thank you for another wonderful video!
hiii i just wanted to say that i haven't really been watching a lot of yt these days, but your channel is so wonderful!! it's been such a relief to sit down after work and watch your vids. Thank you for reminding me about lil tay omFGGGGG
Thank you so much!!
For other similar trends compare "pre stressed jeans"
I'm on a phone so... lets try
:sun:
Excellent points. Also i loved the transitions lol ☀️
Thank you 🌞😆
just found your channel this morning and ive been binge watching as i get ready for my day!! i love that you dont add a bunch of random stuff! ❤❤ and i was so surprised to see how little of a following you have!! good luck on this youtube journey:)
also your hair looks adorable in this video!!
Thank you 🌸
The fact that it takes adding -core to the end of anything makes it trendy just sends me...
Underconsumption is great, now how about volunteercore, votercore, pro-choicecore, goodparentingcore, and investing-in-educationcore?
🔥🔥🔥
If it takes something to become a core in order to lower capitalism, i'm here for it. But I hope it stays.
Randomly had a video of yours suggested by TH-cam! They struck gold again, loving your channel! I'll hit that "join" button as soon as it's an option!
Aww thank you 🙏🏾
This exact trend comes and goes, minimalism by any other name...it'll be gone in a week and we'll be back to restocking all of those shelves and drawers we just cleared out
☀️ Thanks for the video! I think flexing should go back to when rich people commissioned oil paintings of big cows they owned, much more interesting imho 🐄
😂that would be cool
absolutely loved this video 👏🏻
Thank you 😆
🌞 really appreciate your take
Thank you 🌞🌞
Part of me feels like the Stanley Cup craze is a big part of what started the 'new' trend. People realized it's wasteful and saw the heat people were taking for having so many cups they will never use.
Next thing you know rich people are going to cosplay as poor people like us.
That's been happening. But we'll see it more soon.
A different take on “under consumption“ - its recession behavior lol ☀️
To be so fair to me my makeup, soap, and lotion don’t expire until I do 😂😂
☀️ thank you for the video ❤
Thank you for watching thru 🌞
god gen z can't have shit. can we please have this at least damn especially because it's better for the environment 😭😆
Underconsumtion core seems to be an evolution of the beauty communities project pan movemnet but made to seem more cool for easier mass consumption
Your hair looks very nice, and side note I think we the world could change for the better if there was a trend for it. Kinda of like those old head memes where it’s like #jumpoffabridgechallenge and then the kids do it, like a legit Mr beast recycling challenge would be crazy
Thank you, and that’s so true
At the end of the day, womanhood is constantly being juiced into different trends and used for companies to benefit off of which really makes me wonder when we’ll be able to truly just be our authentic selves because we feel safe to😅
Thats a really good analysis. Felling the safety to express yourself is probably a big factor in all of this.
In the US it's a revelation and trend. In rest of the world it's common sense.
Wondeful video☀️
Did Kim just say organic... trees?!??!?!!
Crazy that now that we have so much stuff like the rich they have now focused on having quality food and free time as their flex of wealth.
off topic but i love your hair :) ☀️
So it’s back to normality?😂 Oh reminds me of my 90s childhood 🥹
Frugal living 👍🏾
I feel like calling it an aesthetic/-core is being mostly ironic - like yeah, most ppl live like this, and we hate overconsumption, let’s call it underconsumption-core then lmao
Why is everything a core now? Haha. First time watching! 🌞
☀️ I loved this video
Thank you 🌞
celeb/people try to build a tank to cover their natural self by flex and possession, and when viewer fed up with the content, they sway into a quiet luxury, under-consumption core. overall, human are all human pleaser
Bring back minimalism
I like underconsumption, but not as a trend. I want it to last beyond a typical trend cycle. I want it to really catch on this time.
I think that frugal life is happend just in media class, and in cities. Poor people life frugal because there is not choice😅
Not every collection is over consumption it depends on the reason for buying it. I collect several things like MLP, meemeows, cans that i like, Taylor swift, dead things i find and turn into displays.
Taylor Swift? Grow up.
I appreciate what under-consumption core is trying to do, but it is still being MARKETED to us as a trend, which almost guarantees it will not be sustainable. It doesn't present itself as a movement to me. It's the re-marketing of being normal
