I have to thank you for helping me connect to god and follow/understand the gurus true teachings. I am a gori, who came to Sikhi on my own, and married to a Singh from Kashmir. We both took Amrit together when we got married though he was already Amritdhari. I had already accepted Sikhi as my path long before though. And I love my life and where I am spiritually (and have had some very deep experiences) I can't imagine any other path. But I just wanted to say that in 2007 Akal Takht issued a hukamnama stating anand Karaj can only be between two Sikhs and that in case of a convert, they must have already changed their name in legal documents (to show sincerity). In Sikh Rehet Maryada it says Sikh must marry a Sikh (a daughter must be married to a Sikh - and by extension son must be married to a Sikh girl as well as nothing is directed at only one gender in Sikhi). I had to have my name legally changed prior to anand Karaj. And to avoid two complete name changes I had to take a sikh first name prior to taking Amrit (I was going to wait) but it is not easy process to do name change!

      Harkiran W Kaur: These guys are rehat maryada followers. Rehat Maryada is not stated in Guru Granth Sab. Given Sikhs only follow GURU Granth Sahib, these people are impostors to impose their cultural views on you or anyone else! PITY THEM!

    • @HarkiranWKaur
      @HarkiranWKaur 8 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Rani Matar If you have taken Amrit you are bound by Sikh Rehet Maryada. Gurdwaras who fly the nishan sahib also are bound to follow it. Just found out recently that Bhai Daya Singh Ji Rhetnama is closest to what Guru Gobind Singh Ji taught / intended and you can find puratan version translated by Dr. Trilochan Singh Ji. That Rhetnama is closest to Sikh Rehet Maryada, teaches equality of all Sikhs (regardless of caste, colour, creed, GENDER, rich/poor etc) and yes it does specify that Sikhs must marry under anand marriage rights and must marry a Sikh. If you are not Amritdhari, then you are not bound by Sikh Rehet Maryada, and can marry whoever you want I guess... just not by Anand Karaj. You can do a court marriage. Nobody will condemn you for it.

    Being in Chandigarh all my life, I have seen soooooo many cases where men have grown a beard almost 2-3 cms long to have an Anand Karaj in the Gurudwara and on the same day before entering the marriage party venue they shave off the beard and remove their turban. Why would our Gurudwara leaders keep doing these false Anand Karajs and weaken our faith?
    Why don't just tell them to go and have a Court Marriage?

    • @ParamPanesar1808
      @ParamPanesar1808 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      What u saying is they are not pure or complete sikh ... but the point here is tat they are not muslim or christian just growing beard and doing marriage... and den going back to islam or christianity tat is not tge case right .. their roots are sikh but they dont follow sikhi completely ... so this much flexibility hav to be there with a hope that they will learn later in life n become pure or complete sikh... the point is tat its not a interfaith marriage its just people who dont follow sikhi completely so i guess this is important and hence little leniency is shown by gurudwaras !

    sikhi is clearly NOT for the kid asking the questions. why should sikhi change for people. people should change for sikhi. if you dont want to then its a great loss to you. i hate that some sikhs try to twist/ignore the gurus message to suit themselves. if people are so concerned with the whole liberalism/equality thing then they should step away from religion entirely. people try to take advantage of how accepting sikhi is. its the only major religion i know of that does not discriminate however this also does not mean that anyone can jump on the bandwagon without any deep thought about what they're actually doing.

      Why would I care for either of those religions? I respect and love the Guru, and have recently found God through science, altruism, and the journey of life. It is a shame that Christianity is being slaughtered off the planet by fascists with a prophet that lusts for children and homicide. There's little I can do in this unfortunate, turbulent world aside from spread peace, and on fewer occasions joy.

    • @adriennejoybalderas7362
      @adriennejoybalderas7362 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Preferably to marry same faith is good in Christianity.. But if you love and willing to marry someone from another faith, then be a blessing to that person by livibg a Christlike life, by doing that your partner might willingly believe follow Christ. It is still depends on the unbelieving partner to believe in Jesus or not... But as long as they love and respect each other and grow together in the relationship, become responsible parents and faithful to one another, then I think the couple is still obeying the highest commandment of God..

      Bhai Jagraj gave an answer to my question on another video, and I'm satisfied with the answer.
      There's no need to be rude. We're all Sikhs, we're all learning things one step at a time here. Sikhism isn't dying out. It may be becoming unpopular amongst the modern youth who follow the YOLO ideology, and the reason for that is lack of education. What happens if somebody looks like a Sikh but he is not following Sikhi and Still he can have Anandh Karj .so why not another faith believer can have anadh Karj then. Gagandeep Singh You do not understand Sikhi at all.. Did you even watch the video? Why add fuel to the fire instead of removing the issue at hand. It’s simple and plain: if you do not take SGGS Ji as your Guru why do a Anand Karaj at all. If you do not know what an Anand Karaj entails please go read the English translations. It’s not hard to understand: Anand Karaj is your marriage to the Guru, if you not believe in the Guru then why do the Anand Karaj ceremony?

    • @coolgarrysingh
      @coolgarrysingh 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Balpreet Singh Paji I don't know that where you bring this ideology from " that Anand Karaj is our marriage to the Guru ". However, Anand Karaj is a commitment between two souls and their families in the Present of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, that they gonna live together happily. So if someone from other belief is happy to do that commitment in front of our Guru then there should not be any problem.

      Have you even read the meaning behind the Lavans? In fact just the first Lavan is about devoting both members to the Perfect True Guru... so how could a non-sikh devote himself to the true Guru when he is not a sikh!? If a Sikh wants to get married to a non-sikh; that’s not a issue. But it is a issue if they wish to partake in the Anand Karaj ceremony which entails both members devoting themselves to the True Guru. How can this be done if one member is a non-sikh? Simple. Please go read the meaning of the Lavans and you will understand. May SGGS bless you with understanding..

    • @coolgarrysingh
      @coolgarrysingh 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Common Paji, a non-Sikh can also devote to GGS if he respects him. someone doesn't need to be a Sikh only if he wants to devote. GGS has bani of Muslims, Hindus and other faith as well, so when you devote to GGS it doesn't mean you are only devoting to our Gurus only you are also devoting to other religion saints as well who has their bani in it. GGS is not only for Sikhs it's for all human race. so who the hell we are going to decide.So leave it to the Guru.

      Gagandeep Singh there is absolutely no point of continuing this conversation further if you will not go read the Lavans for yourself and understand what they mean. In the Lavans it clearly states: worship and adore the perfect true Guru (SGGS) Thus, how can a non-sikh believe, worship and adore in SGGS Ji when they already follow someone else. Logic. Please just go read the Lavans and you will understand what they entail. And if the non-sikh is unable to follow the entailments then what is the point of doing an Anand Karaj ceremony? As you would just be lying to the Guru

But if you don't and have say an athiest marage with a sikh, an interfaith marriage you build it on a secular, shared value basis. I believe the course that was mentioned is a good idea, however I think it won't be too long before that system gets corrupted, without money gudwaras cannot operate, the amount of money the gudwaras generate from weddings has got to be a big proportion, this pays for the food that feeds everyone, salaries etc etc so on the flip side if these non Sikh weddings were to stop, I can see gudwaras closing down due to lack of funds, its a catch 22........

      @rajinderdhanoa4348 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ajitpal Singh Yes it is for the whole world but the copyright is the Eastern Civilizations(India, Sikhs). Spirituality began with the Eastern Civilizations Arabs,Egypt,Persia,Isreal, and India. India is related to all the religions because she was the creator. It had nothing to do with the Europeans, Africans, Orientals. The Pharoahs symbol was the Lotus Flower but corruptions(Babel) scattered them some went to Isreal, others to the Middle East, and India. We are a dysfuntional family. As Sikhs we were part of Asia Minor. Jesus' real name was Yeshua and 2000 years before his story of the virgin birth, the first True virgin birth was Buddha's mother, the Indian Queen during the Ashoka empire. GOD directly blessed the Indian Queen. Buddha's mother was taken to heaven on a Lotus Flower and God directly spoke to her that she will carry the enlightened one. The Sikh Gurus honored the female energy by calling them Kaurs(princesses) SHAME SHAME on males that have shamed their women by violence. If you will not respect your women then other civilizations won't either. Whether they are Europeans, Africans, Orientals they will rape your truth and call it their own. And this is what is happening, Look at the Middle East it is Mad Max. The Arabs cover their beautiful women in sheets and like the dog Osama Bin Laden marry a African women? The influence is turning the Muslim religion evil. They need to free their women so she can protect her country from negative influence. With female surpresion the Middle East is just rituals, brutality and has forgotten God. Shame Shame We came from Kings and Queens and now you talk like Ghetto hip hop garbage, even Ghetto people want to improve themselves. Shame Shame where is the sophisticated language of Sanskrit or Punjabi poetry. India is a global country and survival is doing business with over 30 European countries and the sophisticated business world that feeds your children DO NOT speak Ghetto. Any civilization that honors their women by education, arts(learning piano) is successful e.g.America, Canada, Europe, Orient. God is Knowledge. Light a candle and ask for knowledge and wisdom to help the great country you came from and the country you are in. Love your children, wives, have good morals and be very gratefully that God blessed the Indian female.

      +Ajitpal Singh I did not say Spirituality only belongs to east, I said that Spirituality began with the Eastern Civilizations. The message of Jesus(Yeshua),Buddha was meant for the world but their beginning creation belongs to the Eastern Civilizations to the female energy that was blessed by God. Racism began because that truth has been manipulated for power. No I am not comparing races of the earth but IDEAS, yes some civilizations are better because they have developed better ideas, less corruption. In order to have good Ideas you need to be educated, creative, be fully aware of the entire planet. You need to have the wisdom to know which ideas are not good and which are harmful. You need to know how to protect your home and at the same time how to make it beautiful. At the beginning the God energy was equal in everyone but survival, manipulation, corruption by man has today made it NOT equal. And NOT equal means no peace and some civilizations will survive better than others. The middle east is losing it's energy because it has not been paying attention to the rest of the world but instead caught up in rituals not focusing on better ideas but negative ideas like Wahhabism(Voodo), Suppression of Women, Muslim Brotherhood, Terrorism. When the Middle East was dominant was when it was a trading route with Jews, Europeans, Indians doing trade and bringing new ideas but now it is Mad Max. My point is that if India/Sikhs are to be successful we need to be focused on the rest of the planet and be connected to God(it's our DNA), but not get caught up in rituals. Have a realistic world view point. We need to be aware which ideas are good, helpful and which are bad, harmful. We need to survive with Knowledgeable Love NOT Blind Love because blind love will lead us to corruption, ugliness, poverty, pain and death. Knowledgeable Love will lead us to riches, peace, beauty, success, happiness and glory.

    But I think we should have empathy for two people that love eachother and wants to spends the rest of their lives together. These people want to celebrate with their families and the Sihk in the relationship has probably dreamt of this ceremoni his/her entire life.
    So if its not possible to do the exact same ceremoni then don't just send them down to the town office for a marriage license. Let's bring as much of the celebration and ceremoni as is possible to make sure these 2 people feel as loved as possible.

    'm a little confused, so do you have to be amritdhari/practicing sikh to have an anand karaj? A lot of people see the anand karaj as a cultural/ritual aspect and don't actually practice Sikhi. I have seen a lot of people grow there hair and beard, just for the anand karaj and then shave/trim their hair/beard for there reception party.
    Perhaps interfaith marriages should not be allowed. However, then majorly of the sangat should not be allowed to have an anand karaj. As they do not believe or practice sikhi.
    I think anyone committing to an anand karaj should be educated on the concept and purpose, if they are willing to accept the values of sikhi only then they should be allowed.
    Another question I have the gudwara is open everyone, who respect the protocol of then gudwara regardless of faith. I have seen people from other religions mata dehk and show their respect and appreciation to Sikh Dharam through seva, is that wrong as well?

    In reply to basics of Sikhi -very interesting reply ,but my key point is that within GGS context,Bani is Guru....,You cannot say the Bani of the Bhagats is less superior in status,all the Shabads form the body of GGS.To my knowledge this statement has never been challenged by any known scholars.GGS belongs to all Humanity,eg followers of Bhagat Ravidas are all Sikhs,why push them out.Maskin witnessed Gurdwaras that use to be filled with Hindus and Muslims living in harmony.

    Paji i m still not convince about the arguments u put for anand karaj. I got a feeling tht here you narrow down the teachings of guru nanak. guru nanak didnt teach us to be so narrow minded.
    A point u make regarding kabeer ji and others. Pls dont make no1 or no2 in Guru Granth Sahib. We as sikh believe in Shabad Guru and every shabad in guru granth sahib has same respect.

    As a Hindu, I totally agree with this statement. I obviously have found a guru, who I find is very good. Many ‘Hindus’ I meet do not have a guru, or know who their guru is, and are therefore confused about many of the steps they should take in life.
    You are correct that a Murti cannot be directed regarded as a guru because he cannot speak to you although Krishna (In Hinduism) is considered as a jagatguru as he clarified many of the teachings laid out in scripture, through the Bhagavad Gita. We do murti puja as Murtis are considered to have the Atman of Bhagavan in it, and by concentrating your mind on the Murti, you are able to concentrate on Bhagvan, but in order to do murti puja, you need to be initiated by a reliable Guru and instructed on how to do it properly.

    People need to understand what the Anand Karaj ceremony is. It is two people promising to have Maharaj at the centre of their lives and live according to the teachings of the Guru. They are making a promise to Maharaj as well as each other. If they know they will not live a Sikhi way of life together, then they shouldn't do the Anand Karaj ceremony. It will just be a performative photo opportunity without spiritual depth.

      No god doesn't about that. Sikhs aren't against inter-faith marriages. It's about the ceremony that's meant for 2 sikhs getting married who accept sikhism when you take part in the ceremony. So if you are not a sikh, why bother with the ceremony? that's falsehood.

    • @HarkiranWKaur
      @HarkiranWKaur 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Sikhi is not against interfaith marriage, court marriage etc are fine. It's just that anand karaj is not even about the couple. If you read the lavaans they are speaking about the souls journey toward Waheguru. So the couple now as one are taking that journey together in Sikhi. If one partner does not believe in Sikhi then how can they agree in front of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to truly follow that path? If they convert then great! I was not born Sikh! But if they do not profess to follow Sikhi then why go through a religious ceremony where the symbolism is them making a commitment to follow that path? It would be a sham! Just get a court marriage!

      Easy, get a court marriage and problem solved! Why so interested in going through a religious ceremony for a religion you don't believe in? It would be same as wanting to take Amrit, even though you had no intention of following Sikhi. Should we allow non Sikhs to take Amrit to go through that ceremony too?? Its same thing. As the lavaans have NOTHING to do with the physical couple being married, but rather with the soul. In the lavaans you are matha tekking to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as your Guru. Would the non Sikh, remain standing? Then how can they agree to what is being imparted on them? It would be a sham. If you want to be married Sikh to non Sikh easy just get a court marriage! What is so wrong in that?

    These UK Sikhs going around stopping marriages where one partner is a non -Sikh is sad and Wrong. Most Sikh persons partners want to have Guru in their lives and marrying in front of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is start of their journey and learning of Guru words. I have deep respect for these couples to take their bows in front of the Guru Granth Ji.
    These people come covering their faces with balaclava - these people are cowards. 95% of Sikhs in the UK are against how these people have disrupted peoples special moment in front of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Our Next generation will marry some one of another faith, pushing the Sikh to a register office is not RIGHT.
    We can make all happy , may person marrying a Sikh can go through a Sikhi class to learn the wedding process and meaning and its what SEVA means to Sikhs and our Specials Sikh days.

They can follow and practice their own religion after marriage like if a sikh and muslim get married after marriage they are free to follow their own beliefs, they will still live peacefully and happily by following different religions. I thought the same. But me and my cousin came to a conclusion for this doubt.
      First of our question was If 'Ik onkar' (One God, One truth) then why can't we have Anand Karaj with a non Sikh?
      And our conclusion was that a non Sikh would not without any hesitation bow down to any form of any God. In Gurbani so so many forms of God's are mentioned. Allah, Prahlad, Ram, Rahim, Krishna, etc.
      Whether a non Sikh would give a heir life for the safety or protection of some other religion?
      Probably not.
      Yet Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji had.
      AND if the person is of any non Sikh religion, for example, let's say hindu
      And has no absolute hesitation to pray or meditate on any form of God, whether it be Waheguru, Allah, Ram or any one, Then the person would also have no hesitation to be a Gursikh.
      They would have no hesitation on bring Amritdhari.
      This is my take on it. Pls do add your thoughts

This life feels so real much like how some dreams feel real, yet when we wake up from the illusions and temptations of the world we see it’s just a play it’s just like a dream.
