  • Many recommended Edge Tamers from R2Manufacturing, so we put them to test with our first big snow of the year here in SE Ohio. See how they performed and what challenges I still faced on our hilly gravel driveways.

    Are your tires loaded with rimguard/fluid? If not I recommend getting them loaded so you'll be able to get better traction in general in all conditions and that includes snow.

      They are not and I’ve considered it but haven’t done it yet. One concern is mowing around my pond, I’m afraid it will cause more issues around the pond bank. It’s still on the radar though.

    Using the FEL float works great with the EdgeTamers. What you really need are some driveway markers so you don't misplace the driveway. Enjoy. I didn't plow our 5 inches this time - got new tires on my 4x4 truck.

      Thanks for the tip! I thought about it as I was using them but since they never dug in I didn't... however, I probably would have had more control and less of the ski effect on the front end.

    Doesn't that tractor have float mode. When you were sliding, I wonder if you had down pressure and losing traction in the front. I have concrete thank god, but I am going to bolt some poly under the bucket and my tractor has float. I had a little JD 430 Yanmar 20 hp was a snow hog! and it was fast. We're going to see how the South Korean TYM T264 does this year. Based on last spring summer and no fall I hope to be impressed.

    • @HardyBrothersOutdoors
      @HardyBrothersOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep has a float mode and I'd have to watch again to see if I was using downward pressure or not, likely was. The challenge is leaving too much snow since its an uneven gravel drive. Love to hear how the TYM works for ya, we took at look at them at the Ag Expo and they were nice for sure.

    Looks like a lot of fun!! We just don’t get snow like that anymore. Think it’s been 8 years since we had 8”. Thks for sharing!!

      We don’t get snows like this very often. Maybe once a year, twice when we are lucky. But with what we do get it definitely helps to get it cleared due to the hills.

      r2manufacturing.com/ is the company that came up with these. They are nice and heavy duty and have a few other attachments. I was just just using my trailer hitch ball on the one the other day.

    For a driveway that long you’d love a snowplow. So much quicker.

    The Tamers work very well for me - 3x3" on my JD bucket. One caution to all: take the time to check and tighten them every plow or two. They do loosen and you can easily loose one in action.

    • @HardyBrothersOutdoors
      @HardyBrothersOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great tip! Mine worked loose and I tempted fate for a bit before I decided I needed to tighten them down. Will keep the ratchet on the tractor in the future. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      You could probably eliminate most of that if you put a jam but on that bolt so you could double nut it. On either side of the bolt where it passes through the bracket

    I also own that tractor and absolutely love it. I use chains on the tires which really helps in plowing snow. Good video!

    Good video. Yeah I would agree ice is big factor for you and thus chains. How much snow and how often do you get in SE OH to warrant getting a Snow Pusher? I'm jealous of the heated gloves. Here in Mid-Michigan, I have plowed once with 4 inches of snow back on Jan 7th. Since then, it's just been miserable cold and we barely have any snow left. What is left is hard crunchy. 13F here this afternoon.

    • @HardyBrothersOutdoors
      @HardyBrothersOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! We don't get enough snow to warrant a pusher or a blower in my opinion unless I can get a good deal one. We might get 3-4 snows a year and I may only be at this property for 1-2 of those snows a year. I do it more because I enjoy it and to help my neighbor that doesn't have a tractor... their alternative is paying someone to come plow with a truck... Maybe when we move there full time I will invest and it will be easier but at the moment I have more attachments than I have places to store them. 24 here today! Thanks for watching and commenting Bob!

      I’d love to have one but maybe after we move to the hills full time. Snowfall isn’t significant enough at the time to make me want to pull the trigger but it will likely happen when we are there full time.

    Were you using the float on the FEL?

    • @HardyBrothersOutdoors
      @HardyBrothersOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was not. The tamer guys said to feather it back a little so I didn’t ever run it in float loads this time. Should have tried it. I did in a prior video without the tamers.

      It's busted and taped on with gorilla tape... This tractor sees a lot of use in the woods and i busted that w/in the first 6 months I think. I need to replace those brackets...

    • @jasoncomstock2350
      @jasoncomstock2350 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thx for the demo. I have a set, but haven't had enough snow to yet plow. I have the issue of busting off my turn signals as they are on the outside and up high on the ROPS. I had a local machine shop make a big u-bolt that will go over the light, but not block the light. I'm hoping that will take care of the lights get broken in the woods.

      @@jasoncomstock2350 shoot me a pic of that solution. I may just have to bite the bullet and replace that side... but this tractor gets tractored and not babied so it may just stay the way it is for a while. haha...
