    thoughts by song
    1. sound identical
    2. original sounds funkier
    3. the less full sound of the original makes for a sound that does not sound like a normal guitar sound and make the original sound more special in that regard
    4. for the intro part of paradise city the original has this great retro chorus sound that just sparkles through the mix and make the song sound brighter and more like the original recording. for the later parts i cannot tell the difference between them
    5. the modern pedal has a warmer sound for the whole part
    6. the more scooped nature of the original suits this song better and makes for a better sound blend overall
    7. sound identical
    overall more sounds that the original provided that i liked but both are great

  • @WillMaskellTaylor

    It's a subtle chorus but I love the sound. It's the kinda thing I'd keep in all the time as it just adds some extra spice to a guitar sound, it's very musical

    This video is so informative, so good, so purple that it has an old purple pedal, new purple pedal and new purple Tshirt in it, the only thing missing is Purple Haze or Purple Rain being played and the ultimate purpleness would have been achived.

    The difference is pretty subtle, The waza seems a touch clearer and brighter, but I also don’t mind the warmth of the older one... I think I prefer the Boss Super Chorus!

    I had the original.The new one with its multi-button is killer.Miles better.
    You summed up the original perfectly.
    Back in the day, the choice was very narrow.
    Often, I'd only use one mode but it was lovely for the time.When guitar effects all sounded fresh.

  • @OfficialKevinFox
    @OfficialKevinFox 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I like the waza because it does sound more natural. The original almost had a chorus effect on it, which goes with what you said about the original, sounding like the sound is being "effected" rather than the sound just doing it.

  • @nikopappas8484

    Interesting comparison! Love these two pedals. I want to say you scored a great original. Mine had a noticeable volume drop, especially with gain. The Waza is about as flat as it gets; no boost or cut.

  • @VicCross
    @VicCross 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think the best thing that these comparisons demonstrate is how close to the original the new toggle switch is. I think the did a really good job capturing the old pedal sound and then adding to it.

  • @aidenraine
    @aidenraine 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    not a huge difference between the two overall. the original DC-2 sounds like it has a little bit of signal degradation that's more noticeable when using the distortion, though.

    @woofystevenson2943 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I just like the effect , its sparkley and makes the guitar sound wider

  • @KingBlonde
    @KingBlonde 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If there's a slight SLIGHT difference, it's that the waza is brighter and possibly has more headroom. But I think this difference can be from old caps on the original DC-2. Perhaps something to do with the new chipset being reworked for stereo, which could affect initial gain-staging before the difference in volume was made up with other components. This is all speculation though.
    Great video again man!

  • @DefconMaster
    @DefconMaster 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I don't hear much of a difference between the 2 when the Waza is in standard mode, although the original seems a tad bit warmer, which is commonly attributed to the difference between NOS and modern production MN3207s. The SDD-320 mode is quite a bit brighter though, and sounds "wider" as well. Both sound similar enough to my clone (built on the Blueshift board by Aion) that I'm in no rush to upgrade!

  • @robertstapleton3598
    @robertstapleton3598 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks! I really enjoyed this. At first I thought the Waza was a little brighter and it seemed like the level on the original wasn't quite as loud. But the more I listened the more I heard the volume differences between chords on the same setting - just a small difference in the playing. Maybe when things are this close to sounding alike it would be a good idea to use a looper so that the same signal is fed into each one. Just my two cents.

    • @ScienceofLoud
      @ScienceofLoud  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure which video you watched my dude, but reamping the same signal through both pedals and then A/Bing them in edit is EXACTLY what I did.
      If they sound so close that you can't hear a difference it's because they are so close that you can't hear a difference.
      Spend your two cents more wisely next time.

    Without a side by side comparison I don't think I would have known this was two different pedals. But compared to the original, the waza sounds a bit more natural. Some chords on the original just sounded like they were coming out of a tin can. That was the only difference that I could hear. It was always in the chords.

  • @thesucculentcity

    I hate to admit this, but the original sounds better. The new one has a strange bump in the upper midrange. There is also something going on with the low-mid of the original, like the chorus is more evenly applied?

    I bought a DC-2 in 1989 (actually got it buy 1 get 1 free and like a dummy sold 1 a decade ago for only $100) but the DC-2 seems to have more of the 3D chorus effect, and shimmer, of the rack Digital-D from which the circuitry was taken from. I tested a DC-2w and it felt too "digital" - like an Axe Fx chorus - and it lost about 5% of the "3-D magic" and that 5% is where the magic happens. I'll buy a used original before the waza redo!

  • @shoominati23
    @shoominati23 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The dimension D was the better pedal anyway, I use it exclusively for chorus in every pedal setup I use. I wonder if they plan on releasing it. They probably do, but the want the milk out the max $ from the each waza release.

    I dont get why musicians need 1000 pedals. Just learn to play and you wont have to waste money on stuff to mask your bad/basic playing. If you are a noob and need to mask all your errors then buy a multi pedal. Im not sure how people dont realize multi sound pedals exist 30 years after their creation

    • @likeanuuk6612
      @likeanuuk6612 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      i cant believe people are still dumb enough to make these comments. effects are not to "mask bad playing", its for people who want more than the generic guitar+distortion and nothing else. you know, MUSICIANS.

    • @ScienceofLoud
      @ScienceofLoud  5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Well Shawn, this has got to be the dumbest comment I've seen in a long time.

    • @raymondclay5822
      @raymondclay5822 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try telling that to Paul Gilbert. I can assure you that he is in complete disagreement with your statement. Imagine that: an elite badass guitarzan has hundreds of pedals in his collection and goes out on tour with a pedal board. He must be a pretty dumb guy to be collecting all those pedals that he uses to get paid big money.

    • @maidenthe80sla
      @maidenthe80sla 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excuse we mere mortals that may like to occasionally flavor our sound with effects. With some musicians, their creativity can be sparked by using them as I know they have for me. Plus, they are fun to work with.
      So, if boiled meat & potatoes with a tiny bit of salt & pepper suits your everyday meal by all means go for it; but some of us like a treat and go out taste the richness of prime rib, lobster, tempura prawns, etc... (others around the world pick your favorite meal). Or a daily meal of blanched non-seasoned produce vs grilled vegetables brushed with a fine olive oil & herbs for my vegetarian friends.

    • @nikopappas8484
      @nikopappas8484 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I played for 10 years without pedals. But now that I have them, I have never, NEVER found a pedal that "masked bad playing". If anything, your bad playing will just be made more noticeable with effects, particularly delay and compression. You'd also sound worse with any dirt pedal because if you're bad at playing, chances are you don't know how to EQ your pedals with your rig.
      So yeah, your argument has zero depth to it.
