That was really helpful. My 530e touring is being delivered tomorrow and after seeing a number of reviews that said the power would be impacted when battery is nearly depleted, I was a bit concerned. Thank you for the content.
If driving in a sinuous road in sports mode, the battery on my 530e actually recharges. So if in a specific trip you are so concerned about power output, you are probably willing to have less milleage per gallon than you would in hybrid or electric.
Very good video, I own BMW 330e. Actually it can run out of battery when you continuously flooring the gas pedal when your battery is very low... For e.g. your battery has 4-6% of charge, and you floor it for 20 seconds, it will drain the battery completely and the car will purely run on engine power only... But this is extremely rare case...
Thank you, this was a very informative video, I did have one more question. If you can never charge your battery because you live in appartment, how long does it take in the Battery Control mode to charge your battery from low battery to 100%?
Hi, it is approximately 30 min driving at 90km/h. Most likely this does not differ too much on different speeds, but you can look into my other video, I have made a bit of comparison and fuel consumption while charging and while driving in auto;)
Hi, nice videos! May I ask what was the battery performance over time? How did it degrade and if you lost any range? (what's your mileage now if you don't mind)
Hi, as the battery in general is very small I do not feel degradadion. Range more depends on a temperature outside and driving style. Even if there is 5% degradation it is not noticable.
@@RomasLTU1 Thanks for getting back to me. I'm slightly worried as in UK the battery pack (whole) costs over £8000 to replace. Hello,i have question because I am buying 530e 2020, so I saw most of your comments and sorry if I ask something you already answered but let me be as simple as I can🙂 1. You can drive this car on few mods -only on battery( range cca 30 km) -only on fuel (range cca 46l- 450-500km) -together battery and fuel( in that mod consumption of fuel is low ,around 3l, and my first question is, in that mod how much battery I use? If I drive on both, fuel and battery?) And second, if I drive 1000 km ,i have full tank of fuel(46 l) and full battery, and I drive on that hybrid mode(both fuel and battery) ,after some time, lets say 200 km my battery is empty, and can I turn charging battery with petrol and after battery is again full can I continue my drive on hybrid mode( on fuel and battery together)? Sorry and I hope you understand what I want to ask..thank you
Hi, will try to answer;) There are 3 modes: 1. Electric only (eDrive), you are correct. You can drive in this mode at max 130km/h. If you will press accelerator to total max (till clicker), ir will turn petrol. 2. Auto eDrive (hybrid). Basicaly the car will drive on electric (same as 1st option) till you have battery. It will turn petrol if you will accelerate more than 60% and it will drive electric till max 90 km/h speed. After battery is empty it will drive petrol, regenerate energy while braking and will drive electric on low speeds (as Lexus or Toyota does). So to evaluate comsumption approximately you should calculate that same 30 km will be on electric and the rest on petrol. 3l is possible only on short city drives, but for long roadtrip it will be petrol mostly 6-7l. In city conditions car regenerates more, so you will make some electricity for more electric drive;) 3. Battery control mode. It will charge battery from petrol engine (high consuption 9-10l) and aftery battery will be charged to the level you set, it will continue driving on petrol. Also in low speeds electric drive will be activated. In all modes if you hit accelerator to 100%, both engines will work (eBoost). The car always keeps some battery reserve for this situation;) Charging battery from engine is not economicaly reasonable, because using petrol engine to charge battery you have some enery loses, better just drive on petrol. Due to the reason you regenerate some energy you always have electric on low speeds. On high speed electric is not working if you not have full battery (same as other regular hybrids).
@@RomasLTU1 thank you for answer, so what you recommend if I go lets say 2 or 3 times in year to a long jurney, lets say 1000 km in one direction( on holidays)?
@@RomasLTU1 ok,I also thought that would be logic choice, and last question, i am buying 530e 02/2020, not facelift, has that 2020 bigger battery capacitet? I have read that models from 2020 have around 47 km on battery 😁?
hello friend, your videos are very good, so good that I bought a 2019 bmw 530e a few weeks ago, but, I have two questions for you, I hope you can help me, 1- when the car is charging the battery, sometimes, activate the motor fans with great force, has it happened to you? It is normal? 2- with the car turned on in P, if I open the driver's door to get out for a moment, the car turns off automatically, if there are passengers inside at that moment, this situation is very annoying, how do I make it stay on?
Hi, regarding 1. It happens to me also, I think car is cooling battery that way while charging in warm conditions and regarding 2. There is a setting in “doors and lock” section, i think you can turn this off and on.
Hi, i’ll recommend autoedrive mode, because after electricity will end the car will switch to auto anyway if you start on max edrive. Battery charging mode does not have sence on long trips also;)
It has eboost functionality and my car outputs 280 HP with boost. But on registration document I have only 184HP. I think they have messed up during registration process and marked only petrol engine power;)
Do you have to have full throttle to get extra torque from electric motor? Or do you also get it in sport mode for example with half throttle so you can ride the torque like a diesel?
Yes, I get extra torque from electric motor on full throttle. Also at low speeds you get extra torque, e.g. while starting from red light. The system works automatically, so all the time you puch accelerator stronger - electric motor helps.
@@RomasLTU1 but at half throttle as well? So if crusing at 80 kph and then give half throttle, do you get Electric help? So you might get 350nm for example, not the full 420, but more than gas only?
So the result is following: if you cruise lets say on 80kph and you accelerate, you get help of electric motor. But if you push accelerator up to 40% - electric motor only is working, if you push somwhere 40-70% - petrol engine is working and if you pusn more than 70% then both. Also if petrol engine is cold, both engines ar working even on lower acceleration. All this info is from the displays in the car, maybe reality differes;)
