    Thank you, just bought the 530e, to be honest the hype of the edrive in my opinion is wack but the car it self and the drive interior tech is amazing!

    Thanks for this. Very good explanation of how this car works. I’m getting a 330e but I’m gonna guess the principal is the same.
    Just confused as to why you wouldn’t have battery charge set to 100%, but I’m sure it’ll become clear when I get mine.

    How do you save fuel on these electric cars I have a bmw 530e ?

    Thanks for the insight! From you experience, how long does it take to fully charge the battery via engine? What limitations are there to consider?

      Debends on battery temperature. I can measure winter charging time with my 740le👍

    Really great video. I’ve got a 530e and it’s wonderful it’s not middle of June and not put petrol in since middle of March, I know I get over 100 mpg. I’m just getting a X1 plug in hybrid so hope I can get good mpg in that.

    Thanks mate that’s brilliant. I totally missed the battery control option as I was looking at the computer on the left rather than the dash. Even the guy at the dealer said you can’t change this car whilst driving and I thought that’s weird cos that’s one of the main reasons I got this car. Will try it out tomorrow and see how much fuel it uses

    I’m having problems with my 2019 BMW 530e - I got a power supply message and vehicle shut down. I put it to charge and it would not charge. Prior to this happen a drive train message would appear and ac would blow hot. Any idea what this can be ?

    • @DawgWillFixIT
      @DawgWillFixIT  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmmm sounds tricky. I had drive train issues. When the cells in the battery failed. Bmw replaced the cells u der warranty and fixed the issues.

    I wanted to ask if everyone measured the additional percentage of fuel consumptions while charging by engine? I plug-in my 740Le at home, then I drive around 20km full electric (until 12km E left) and then 40km with 90-100km/h which I consider to be a good time to charge up the battery again, since the engine has not much to do keeping the car @ 90-100. But the yellow consumption bar in the dash says it doubles the consumption (5,5L/100km to >10L/100km) which I can't believe. Any real-life numbers?

    • @carlssonlim
      @carlssonlim 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My 740LE can run about 20+km per charge too. And it runs about 10km/litre on petrol. Total combined consumption (battery counted in) is 6.6ltr/100km. The claimed figure by manufacturer at 2.8ltr/km is not realistic. I wonder how they achieved that. If charge everyday and usage within city is below 20km, then is possible to achive that over period of time as you basically not using petrol at all

    • @carlssonlim
      @carlssonlim 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      About your question. Never measured before. As is not ideal to charge battery while driving as you can see the fuel drops very fast. The fuel tank is small at about 43ltr which is good for 350-450km range fully on petrol only. Together with battery charging power I'm getting over 800km per tank

    I charge my car to 92% on a 30 minute journey. Battery save mode is ok but for maximum charge put it in sport mode. Charging at home with a 3 pin plug charger takes up to 2 hours, a 32amp charger (7.2kw) takes 60-90 minutes. On my 2017 day average 100mpg driving motorway speeds. On electric only I can reach 32 miles. Hope this info may help some people

      Hi yes helpful. I’m a bit confused by all this battery control. If I set at 80% should my battery retain 80 % of its charge and then use the ICE to charge back up to 200% because when I set at 80% my battery goes all the way back down to Zero after about 18 miles. I have a 740 Le thanks

      Oops meant back up to 100% not 200% 😊

      @@Synycom1 I have a 2021 330e. Battery control allows you to put charge into the drive battery using the engine alternator. This uses a lot of horsepower, and your engine will spend lots of additional gas doing it. So much so, that there is basically no situation where this would make economic sense. Start with a charged battery and on your trip when it is spent just let it stay spent. Some energy will be recovered back into the drive battery when braking/coasting, and that is basically free energy which is great. But any energy you put into the drive battery from the engine will cost you a lot of additional gas consumption to the point that you are better off not doing it. Should you still want to do it (for reasons beyond logic), you set it to X% and hit the button. The engine alternator charges it and holds it there. You then switch battery control off. If the car is in hybrid mode, it will use the drive battery sometimes when appropriate until it is spent. If you put it in electric mode, it will use the drive battery until it is spent.

      @@KungPowEnterFist Thanks. Found out my instruction manual is wrong as it said you can set battery control via Idrive which you can but it doesn’t work. However, if I press eDrive and cycle through to Battery Control it works. This whole BMW hybrid is a complete farce. My range even when ‘conditioned’ beforehand on electric is about 12 miles. BMW dealer thinks that’s ok 😧

      @@Synycom1 I get a pretty solid 25-28 miles on all electric in city driving and I don't pre-condition or skimp on the A/C, etc. I don't drive aggressive, but also not like a granny. That's enough for me to drive to and from work and/or local errands without using a single drop of gas for weeks or even months at a time. It's not until I need to get on the highway and go on a road trip that I need gas. And when I do that, the cost per mile is sensational. In few words, this car is cheaper to operate and maintain than Tesla's cheapest to operate and maintain model both in city and highway driving. Unfortunately, Tesla lies...a lot. And most Tesla owner's help perpetuate the lies until enough is enough and Tesla is forced to release the software update that reveals the lie. The only luxury car that has a chance to unseat the 2020+ 330e as the very best all around upscale electric/hybrid is Mercedes upcoming 2022 C300. Supposedly, the PHEV version is going to get 50+ miles on all electric. That's the holy grail if they can pull it off without reducing the overall range too much or substantially less performance numbers (0-60, 1/4 miles, etc.) or a poor ride/handling. The car itself looks like a work of art, especially the interior.
