I felt the spirit so strong. I used to have so much doubt but when I took a leap of faith I learned to combat doubt and trust god.

The word of God is true, the Bible can answer all your questions. Humans have many opinions and suggestions.

Yikes. This is telling you to ignore factual evidence that contradicts the Book of Mormon. That’s so different than what Christians teach. We encourage doubt. Doubt leads to questions, questions lead to answers, answers lead to facts, and facts lead to truth. So leave your brain at the door, and take this as 100% true? I couldn’t imagine being part of a religion that discourages questions. God help all of you.
What an absolutely clear and kind way of helping the doubting know how to find the faith to get back on the boat that leads to spiritual safety. He said, "doubt is not wrong unless it becomes a hand in itself." Doubt just needs to be changed to inquiry into trustworthy resources.

@@sylvialewis9903 the doubters weren't the moles it was the questions. Even for me when my questions have been answered, years go by and i forget the answer to that question and i have to research it again. The main point of the talk is that you have to have a spiritual witness and have faith in the church and to have a testimony.
Why are you attacking and shaming those who have doubts? For the most part these are good people who are sincere seekers of truth. Consider the part that the church has played in this, namely withholding information about church history in order to control the narrative.

They are not attacking those who have doubts. They are saying we have to have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. What they are saying is to go to the Lord before you trust in the scholars of the Church. Take the Book of Mormon Central for example. There are good people who write their articles, however, there are those who write the articles and doubt the revelations of the Presidency. The Church actually does not either withhold their history from anyone. Like most people, we often do not study the History enough. So enough with the bigotry.
Robert Wood I agree that they aren’t saying that having questions is a bad thing, but there is no denying that the church withheld information that would cause doubts. I personally choose to believe that it was done with good intentions, and that no part of this information is proof that the church is false. In fact most of it is faith promoting, as long as you look at it without the exemormon lens.
@@KingPoseidon02 , I don't think Jamin was being bigoted, as you seemed to suggest. Before the internet, access to aspects of Church history was carefully controlled, and scholars who published the full story were excommunicated. It wasn't a matter back in the 1980s of members failing to study their history. They were told that certain scholars were simply "anti-Mormon". I assume you're aware of the "September Six". The paradigm has shifted - the challenge now is move toward a narrative where the warts of Church history are acknowledged (and learned from), along with all the glories. It appears that the Church is moving along this pathway, maybe a little late and a little slowly for some, but it is a challenge for leadership to find the right balance, and try to accommodate all member demographics world views.
I consider myself this kid in the video. I have had experiences where Satan causes obstructions that challenge my beliefs. Like President Uchdorf said, give Truth a chance". Church history whakamole is inevitable.
I loved this! I understand that doubts are natural, and as we seek for answers, we shouldn't let them control us. We can press forward in faith with the knowledge that we do have until we obtain the answers we seek! Also, using spiritual means to find answers about spiritual questions makes SO much sense.
As a member of the church who is currently having a lot of questions and doubts I have to say that this talk was really hurtful. I didn’t feel any love in it. Only judgement, and even a bit of manipulation. Was really disappointed with the overall message which felt like an attack on and belittlement on those who doubt. Without given any real acknowledgement to the reasons a lot of these questions are valid. :/
Fully agree. The best thing to do with doubts is to research them into the ground until you are satisfied. Stuffing them away helps no one at all. This talk was simply saying one should ignore doubts and carry on. That's a harmful message. Instead it is best to pursue doubts until they bother you no more.

I can understand and sympathize with your point if you still have questions I would definitely check out Latter-day Saints’ Q&A they have great videos on a variety of topics. I like the Groundhog analogy because for me I've received a lot of answers two questions about the church I would say that I squashed all the groundhogs but within time those groundhogs re-merged. I have felt the overwhelming groundhogs of doubts and questions but answering those questions does not lead me to have more faith in the church just makes me intellectual satisfied for the moment. I believe this talk was trying to emphasize personal knowledge of the gospel through the Holy Ghost and that with constant affirmation we can rely on the single truth that stop out all doubts.
A good suggestion is to read the Bible starting with the New Testament, try to read it through the eyes of a child. God bless you

Elder Ballard offered a much kinder approach to those with questions in his talk to the Saints in Utah back in September of 2016. From the talk:
“Let me make sure that you are hearing my verbal epistle and that you understand this important point. There is absolutely nothing wrong with asking questions or investigating our history, doctrine, and practices. The Restoration began when Joseph Smith sought an answer to a sincere question.
You parents; auxiliary leaders; Church teachers, including seminary and institute; bishops; and stake presidents: when someone comes to you with a question or a concern, please do not simply brush the question off. Do not tell him or her to not worry about the question. Please do not doubt the person’s dedication to the Lord or His work. Instead, help the person find answers to their questions.
I am concerned when I hear of sincere people asking honest questions about our history, doctrine, or practice, and then being treated as though they were faithless. This is not the Lord’s way. As Peter said, “Be ready always to give an answer to every man [or woman] that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you.”[6]
We need to do better in responding to honest questions. Although we may not be able to answer every question about the cosmos-or about our history, practices, or doctrine-we can provide many answers to those who are sincere. When we don’t know the answer, we can search to find answers together-a shared search that may bring us closer to each other and closer to God. Of course, we may not always find satisfying answers to our questions. At such times, it’s good to remember that there is still a place in religion for faith. Sometimes we can learn and study and know; sometimes we have to believe and trust and hope.”
When there is so much history that’s been withheld, a lot of questions are going to come up. It’s important to make people feel loved through these questions rather than label them as perpetual doubters or snotty children not enjoying a ride. Love to anyone with questions. You are beautiful, needed, and strong!

Different talks help different people. This talk was just what the doctor ordered for me. I'm so grateful for the inspiration this apostle followed.
I love my Church. I love the general authorities. I do see that at times they can get things wrong, misrepresent, over-generalize, and stigmatize some of the members of the church--even if it is not their intent.
Joseph Smith had doubts about current religious teachings and it brought him closer to God and helped urge the Restoration. I hope the Church can understand that questions and concerns are not coming from people "not wanting to believe" but "true-blue believers," and can create a class, hold firesides, create support groups, have podcasts, do what it takes to help members address real questions. This will, more importantly, help such members NOT feel alone, shunned, over-generalized, or belittled. I hope the church can stress LOVE not Divisiveness. There is more than one way to "mormon."
I got your point brother. Unfortunately, church leaders do not understand members who are experiencing faith crisis.
You can't stop members to doubt. It's human nature to question everything they see.
What they are doing, is they are trying to create fear to those who have doubts.

"Hey, you know those devotionals that the entire world watches, including thousands of hurting members who are struggling with a faith crisis? We should compare them to petulant children jumping off a boat to their death because they didn't get Perrier and croissants.Then we should characterize the spiritual struggle of working through complex historical topics (things which we ourselves still don't have good explanations for!) that millions of members experience seem like a giant no-no to be ashamed of. That's what Jesus would do!"
Actually Jesus would say to them, "Oh ye of little faith!"
I think the idea of the analogy was that the person lost at sea (we've all been there) was focused on everything negative and what he didn't understand, instead of the the fact that he'd been saved. His perspective was distorted and ungrateful. I know I've been there. There's no shame in noticing the problems with the boat. Focusing on the problems and forgetting faith is when we're in trouble. And as this address covered--we'll never have all the answers in this life. Jesus Christ will someday resolve them all. Doubt is sexier than faith, but trust in the witness you've received. You can have a revival of faith. I'm a witness of it.

Actually this is very appropriate. You see, there are things that come up for many people in the Church that can become stumbling blocks instead of stepping stones. The key here is to understand that, no matter what, the Church is essential for salvation through the Grace of Jesus Christ despite the blemishes of the Church and its members. It is true.
Whoever a talk comes from concerning doubts, whether Elder Uchtdorf, or Elder Ballard, or Elder Renlund, each talk has something different for each person. Its kinda problematic when I hear people say "such and such talk by this apostle was better". Maybe, that's a big maybe, I think it also has to do with if we have eyes to see and ears to hear what the apostle is teaching. Just because you didn't get the parable of boat does not mean there is nothing to get because for you the apostle worded it poorly...
Please create a Mormon Message with that wonderful boat parable! And please include the wonderful reminder that even if the Lord did not put those dents and that peeling paint in the boat himself, he is certainly aware of them and uses them for his purposes.

This talk was highly offensive and dismissive of people who have real questions. People don't doubt for the sake of doubt. Finding out the gold plates weren't used in translation AT ALL isn't a few chips on the boat it is like finding out the boat actually has missing planks. the list goes on and on, it's not doubt it's primary sourced information from recognized church history sources. These are liars making snarky comments to cause people to not think for themselvs.

If the captain of the boat can explain to his young passenger why his boat looks in such poor condition and possibly in unseaworthy when asked would allay the young boys fears.
Like wise if the church was accurate in its portrayal of church history from the beginning then members wouldn't be having to question their faith. You say to trust the captain but trust is earned because the captain proves his loyalty to his passengers by being skilled, knowledgeable a man of integrity and honest.
It appears to those having doubts that the captains of the church have been less than honest in all matters.
Faith does take work but it takes work from both the Professor and the student, don't just blame the students if they are failing. If we as members in the church are failing then maybe the members are struggling to recieve it in the manner its delivered.
Jesus knowing that not all will understand doesn't blame His sheep but he leaves 90 and 9 and goes earnestly looking for the 1.
I think you make a good point that the analogy is more complicated than what they have shown. I think we do owe an explanation for some of the chips and bumps in the boat and over the years the church has provided those through gospel topic essays as well as other research from BYU. I think the point of the analogy was to say don't let bumps and the scuffs in the boat overwhelm you and lead you to think that you'll be better off in the water than in the boat. And I think one of the things they were trying to get across is that you need to have a testimony of the gospel and a personal witness before you go squashing doubts so you are not feeling overwhelmed and wanting to get out of the boat.
@@MrMovie at some point those doubts aka hard facts simply sink the boat. Faithful members put too much emphasis on "personal revelation" or spiritual experiences as truth. I.E. you have a testimony that the earth is flat. You prayed and got the answer. Living it and paying 10% for it has benefitted you. But facts eventually slaps you in the face 🤔 and you have to decide between feelings and just what is true. I had many witnesses myself or so I believed. My faith in God and Christ got stronger after leaving the boat that sank 👍
