Thank you, this is a very helpful explanation of the steps one would need to take to determine the root cause of the issue, and possibly fix it oneself . Really appreciate that you shared your knowledge.
Well they aren't wrong on charging. They have a business and are the professionals. They are super easy to replace. Maybe about 30 minutes. I always suggest doing it yourself. Saves money plus you learn cool things
same issue here, but mine gave out todaysmall bottom link at the chord end at the bottom where I guess the motor is located? and as I'm learning here on TH-cam what happenned, one thing stands out, ''Hot Water'' not sure how big an impact this has but if that doesn't make sense, what if your water is very ''hard'' ie corrossive like our water in the Las Vegas area, either way, the thing I'm wondering is, why would a stainless steel model be more resistant to these type of leaks? I don't see why they would, but that's what some say is the problem, your average garbage disposal has galvanized steel, but to me that does not explain all of it, I've had some garbage disposals with light use last less than 3 years.
@olliestagg04.. (you've probably already figured this out) but No, you do Not need to shut off the water main to work on a garbage disposal- just off at the faucet is all. *The thing I Would do tho' is unplug the disposal from your electric prior to working on it.. especially if there had been water leak(s) coming thru' the housing itself.
I liked the areas covered, but unfortunately nothing was said about it leaking from the bottom, which is probable and is the area mine is dripping from several places. It is bad enough, I cannot use the sink til it is figured out.
@@davidrivas2211 Hi, thanks. I had ended up 2 months ago, getting someone from Angi's list here and just had the whole garbage disposal taken out and just had pvc installed instead. Never really liked having it anyway, plus they smell at times too. Sorry about my first message, I just now reread it, I typed it too fast, I didn't even quite follow it.
@@KS-oe6kd yeah, a bypass is a good work around. I seldomly use my garbage disposal but it does come in handy. We have a drain catcher to help with things going down the pipe but it still happens from time to time. If you ever decide to get another garbage disposal, you can clean it with ice bi-weekly to keep the blade sharp and the disposal fresh. Some put 1/2 cup baking soda and a cup of vinegar. Another thing to consider is running the disposal with water until you hear the motor get up to speed and almost quietly hum. A mistake I was making was using it simply to make the water go down, so just a second or 2, but I found there was still food bits in there and it should have this hum about it. That takes about 4-5 seconds or until you stop hearing food noises.
At the 1:36 mark it states to tighten the ring clockwise. I did that and the unit fell off. Had to tighten it counterclockwise (to the right) to tighten it. This is the same as the installation instructions online. Sorry but thumbs down.

Would those compression gaskets become bad and need replaced and if so, can you buy them at any hardware store?
What if it is leaking on the bottom
Might be a dumb question but do you need to shut off the main water line when doing any repairs on the disposal

Flip the relay in the fuse box. That's what I'll be doing to be safe
king
so there is no way to fix it from leaking from the bottom?
I thought the dishwasher discharge line violate the code
Nice quality are you recording using a flip phone? lol

skipped most important-- how to detach metal flange mounting assembly from sink??
Screw driver through the circle slots on the metal ring. Sorry I'm 9 months late
Great video, but for a 2 year old video, how did you manage to record this on a potato? XD
