Delighted to discover a teacher speaking English! I have really enjoyed the music of Mehdi Aminian and would like to learn a lot more about the lips and tongue mechanics with the Persian ney. What is going on behind the lips and teeth? A few drawings would help to illustrate. I believe many Westerners would love to play the Persian ney, as it is discovered on TH-cam.
Hi. I couldn't find anyone that explains the mechanism of sound production...in Arabic ney, the air stream is split on the sharp edge, which produces the sound... In Persian ney i hope it will help me get sound if i know what produces it...? Is the tongue making a fipple...? On what edge is the air stream splits..?...or maybe the tongue is vibrating like a reed...? The tongue...is it also going "over" ("inside"...) Or just the tip of it on the tip...?...do the tongue touch the teeth...?...and if so...where..? Thanks
Hi, I did another tutorial I invite you to check on my vids. But the short answer is, the sound comes from “frequency harmonization” between air flow and the instrument. the tongue adjust the flow and the vibration.
Good explanation, but I don't get it, don't know what to do with my tongue. What should the airstream do? Blow into the Ney, or on the rim? I have an arab Ney and learnt to play the arab way with the lips, but the persian way seems to have a more colorful playing and I want to learn it. Do I need a persian instrument for this technique or should it work on an arab Ney too? Thanks for an advice
@ahmadchamseddine6891 Try not to force it. I know it’s frustrating. I have been there too but my teacher was surprised that no sound could come out of the ney with all the intensity I put into it. I think the key is consistency and softness. The sound comes at a certain frequency, the goal is to try them all, not to force it. Keep trying and hoping to read from you again.

How did you remove the metal baspar from the top and bottom of your ney? Mine look like they’re glued on.
Mine had a metal baspar on the bottom only..
