Why Ephemeral Rift Is Quitting ASMR

  • Ephemeral rift is quitting ASMR. For years, ephemeral rift has helped millions of people. Growing his channel to 1.18 million subs and the better part of 2,000 videos. His ASMR videos contain sleep for the sleepless, boardwalk candy, Arkham ASMR role plays… so on and so forth. Soft spoken, trigger assortments, story times… Lately he has changed to doing nature videos. A recent video now states that this is the end for his ASMR.
This video explains the timeline up till this time. If you want to know more about the ephemeral rift drama, checkout the JoJo ASMR video about ephemeral rift on Twitter and his use of particular words that have landed him in trouble. While uncle e has had an interesting 6 months, he is still one of the greatest ASMR artists of all time. Ephemeral rift quitting ASMR is gonna be a big blow; however, he is only one of the individuals who is quitting lately.
It seems like offerings from fredsvoice, ephemeral rift, and many others are getting fewer. Maybe it’s TH-cam, maybe it’s artists getting fed up with the life and the demand of everyone telling the artists what to do. Either way, we salute you ephemeral rift, and I hope you find happiness in whatever you do next.

It's a real shame because i really enjoyed his weird avant-garde ASMR. I was having a real hard time going to sleep after I left his channel but I've luckily been able to find others like Cosmo.
Also my favorite Ephemeral Rift video was probably was The Candy Man sorting sprinkles for delivery.

ER was my go-to channel (that honor now goes to Lloyd). Out of all the triggers he had, the tissue package was my favorite.
It’s one thing when he drops the soft “a”, but minimizing the Holocaust was the red line for me. That’s my view though.

I'd say the horror more goes on the expansively anti-human side of the same argument you're saying is the breaking point for you, rather than the specifically anti-holocaust one, as its more alarming, but sort of historically, and morally, I get your point.

I'm pretty sure for the past year or so, Paul has been going through a sort of crisis. Since he completely quit making ASMR content and shifted towards doing "relaxing outdoor videos", his viewerbase just hasn't seemed to click with that content. He's seemingly completely abandoned the Rift Universe for content that he can make in a "less controlling environment".
He said in that vlog of his that you mentioned that he quit making his traditional ASMR videos because of how much of a controlled environment you have to be in when filming, and how he often felt he had little "control" over how his videos were created. I don't mean to psychoanalyze the dude or anything, but I genuinely think that he had a mental breakdown last year and has now decided to pin the root cause of it on creating ASMR content, because of how much of a controlled environment you have to film the video in.
He's still one of my favorite ASMRtists out there and I really hope he'll go back to making his Rift Universe videos soon. So do many others, I feel.

I can say with absolute certainty that his stance on meat and anti-humanity is a direct result of beginning to listen to Cattle Decapitation. If you're not familiar, they are a metal band whose lyrical themes deal with death, gore, societal collapse, mistreatment of animals, the world dying, and so on. He even did a video about their albums in great detail around the time those tweets were out.

What got me about his stance on meat and such is that he's not even a vegetarian. He says meat is worse than the Holocaust yet eats meat from the grocery store which is absolutely insane. A thing is worse than the Holocaust in his mind, but he still actively engages with and supports that thing? The implications of that are very bad. If you think it's that horrible how in the world can you still partake in it?
Meat is worse than the mass murder and torture of millions of people...but he's still down with eating meat! Like, huh? o_O

Yyyeah - Ive watched him for years.
Im 19 and struggle with mental health, i have since i was a child. The first video i watched of his was for Anxious, Worrying and Ruminating minds - I just watched it again, even, though i first saw it when i was.. 14, maybe? After looking for something to help my panic attack.
It leaves a nasty taste in my mouth to think of the.. Questionable things hes done and said. But he really helped me, and, clearly, millions of others.
I do respect his decision to follow what he wants to do. Regardless of what the fans want, he's not obligated, no one is, to entertain to a viewer's standards. He just wants to create, and that speaks to the artist in me very much.
Hell, i interacted with his 'Coloring Outside the Lines' video, and my own entry was featured - Thats what i loved, him reaching out to bring his community in.
And, at the end of the day, there's SO MANY videos he's made - All different, all unique, I'm sure I haven't even seen a sizeable fraction of them.
He's been doing this for so long - Quite honestly, he deserves the break. Even with the problematic things surrounding his name right now.

I honestly never enjoyed ER. Too strange for me, but ASMR really does have a super positive impact and it’s cool that you are trying to make sure both sides of his story are represented.
Also wanted to say that your videos help me in that way. I have a really busy job, I’m a creator myself and the mean things people say can get to you, no matter how successful the content is. Your video help ease that when it gets the best of me. Thanks man.

I think he’s made some mistakes and has some very questionable ideas about some things, I’ve also heard some really disturbing things about him from people who have worked with him. Overall I think he just should stay in his sweet spot which is making creative content about the universe he created. I think I should try to stop watching him.

@@QuietCavalierASMR I just remembered it vaguely from years ago, didn't remember the 'benign' part though.
My concern was that it had grown and slowly started to influence his behaviour.
If that isn't the case, seeing as it is 'benign' according to Paul himself, then I'm honestly disheartened by his actions- the use of slurs and alleged misogyny, not his shift to outdoor ASMR that is.
It would still be terrible, just soemwhat more 'digestible' if this was caused by an illnesses and not his personal beliefs.
      All say that;
one should take care not to put too much stock in one's personal opinions regarding another human based solely on one's pararsocial relationship with said macro-influencer on TH-cam,well honestly, _any_ platform.
In the end I would seem that: everyone fail to live up to the expectations you set for them- even those expectations you would assume were a given: _Dont be a shitty person._

This is my first video of yours, and I saw this video thumbnail and the title and it immediately extremely sour vibes and gave me a click baity adversion (I think your choice of red in the thumbnail text for some reason really conveyed… something.) I have to tell you though within less than 15~ seconds evaluating your the serious but concerned tone you actually sold me very well!
It’s almost… disillusioning keeping my finger on the pulse of this whole ordeal. I have watched him since 2017 (7 years); I have bought TH-cam Premium to specially watch asmr, where on this account I have at least a minimum of 10,000 hours of TH-cam Premium watch time just on rifts channel, and this is not hyperbole in the slightest.
You’re completely utterly right. People do want to feel connected to their asmitist. For the past 7 years I opened ephemeral rifts at least five times a week to see his new catalog of fiction role plays. And now, since the racial things, I have unsubscribed and have not watched a single video of his.
We need an Emphrmeral rift substitute. There is a niche right now I genuinely think of at least 100,000 people want to be filled, and I can’t wait for someone to fill it in a more responsible way. There is something about his audio balancing, beautiful 4k resolution, black background, minimalistic poses, and fictional dialogue that I don’t feel the need to focus on while falling asleep that leaves me speechless.
Thank you for this really objectively portrayed outlook on the experience. I will be looking at your home page and definitely scrolling.

I’ve heard about the controversy surrounding Paul, and while I may not agree with everything he’s said, I’m not going to chastise him for it. We’re all human. Every single person has said and done things in their life that are less than admirable. Nobody should be judged solely on their worst moments. He’s helped countless people via the content on his channel (myself included). That counts for something.
All good things come to an end. When Paul decides to hang it up, I will wish him well in his future endeavors. It’ll be sad to see him go, but we should be grateful for the 10+ years he has given his audience.

@@AgencyIsland He wasn’t paid a lot of money to start. He had to put in countless hours before making a dime off of his channel. And even after he began making money, it still costs him time and energy to put out content. And regardless of whether his goal was to help people or not, that was indeed the result. And for those people who’ve benefited by watching him, I’d argue that matters more than his intent. Many people have good intentions and are judged negatively when their actions result in the harm of others. As someone who has had personal experience dealing with such a person, I can assure you their intentions matter far less than the negative effects of their actions.
I’m not saying intent means nothing, but there are other factors to consider. And who cares if he did it to make money? He still chose to create content that others ultimately found enjoyable, relaxing, etc. Not once have I seen/heard him ask for his audience to gift him money, and not every creator can say that - not that there is anything wrong with doing so. If their audience finds value and wants to support them, then that is fantastic. Many people make money on TH-cam. Does that mean none of them care at all about their audience?
I’m aware I’m not going to change your mind. But I just wanted to point out there are other factors to consider before passing judgment. Have a great day 🤙🏻

I came to watch some of his ASMR, again, and then I see this... Well... if he does leave, that's really a shame. He was easily one of the most prolific ASMRtists out there, and I remember stumbling across some of his earliest ones, with like washing the potato in his basement.
As much as I'm sad to see he might be leaving or at least winding down to an eventual exit, I can't blame him. And it's not like he's left us high and dry, so being angry isn't right, either.
It makes me feel worse that at some points, a few years back, I had criticised some of his more political/controversial videos. I avoided a lot of those, when he did them somewhat more frequently, but I still kept watching his other content, because he really was/is an amazing ASMRtist, regardless of which opinions of his I may have disagreed with.
Any controversial content taken into account, he never failed to keep people relaxed and help them during tough times. I feel bad to see him go, and it's probably not worth much now to apologise for any shade I might have thrown on the most extreme/controversial videos of his. He really was always a great guy, and his work will definitely be missed.

I honestly think it's kind of silly to judge a public figure by their thoughts, opinions, and even sometimes the words they say if they're not actively hurting someone else, especially if that person is an artist. I think all of his viewers expect him to be/act a certain way based on the person he presents to us in his content, and seeing him act differently outside of his art disappoints people.
Is saying racial slurs right? No. Should it detract from how we can appreciate his art? I don't think so. Just because we listen to his voice doesn't mean we have a say in how he acts, nor should it. If he WAS actively harming people, that would be a different story (like all the public figures who have been exposed as predators). But writing someone off for offensive things they've said even after they've acknowledged those things and vowed to never do them again is reductive. Life is more nuanced than getting offended by words and never going near that person or their art again.
