This guy Jose is being honest. There are places in Florida that are ghettos. Many people up North buy homes in Florida and pay too much. If you want to buy a home in a low income area fine, but investigate and don't overpay.

Exactly! I live in Utah, have lived in Vegas as well. There are bad areas in every town and city I have been to. I have a villa in sebring, and it's a retirement/hospitality based city. You have high, medium, and low class subdivisions there, just like every other place in America.

Florida is a mixture of experiences. Weirdest things I saw through the state were things most people don't expect. I saw a man eating a can of cat food at the convenience store in Key West, so not everyone is well to do there.
I was stationed in Key West.
I was in W. Palm Beach & a man named Mr. Bivens caught snake & froze it in freezers he had. His wife was a housekeeper for the wealthiest gate enclosed places, where rich came down to stay in the winter. These houses had 4 couches, ceramic white rabbits on pink carpets & that's just one of the places she cleaned. No one was there so she would polish the silverware & dust.
When I lived up near Jacksonville, one neighbor shot squirrels out of the tree in his front yard & brought them in the house.
The man who had a video store down the street used to work barefoot. He was a very nice person.
I came out of my house to go to work one morning and a neighbor had fallen asleep in my bushes. He and his girlfriend lived down the street but he claims he got drunk and passed out. He was also barefoot. His girlfriend said she hadn't washed her hair in 2 weeks. Their house had no electricity & they must have been behind on their bills.
My husband was a manager at a major truck stop. He came home and told me one 19 year old man was applying for work. One of the questions asked why you left your former job and he had written on the application that it was because he had no shoes.
We were living in a rural area outside of Jax.
There was a gator sunning himself on the next street & the Wildlife crew had to come and retrieve him.
Homeless people were everywhere. The rural locals looked like the movie Deliverance.
The irony of it all, is I have a cousin who was born in the wealthy area of Palm Beach and near Boca Raton. Her father was wealthy and the lifestyle was completely different in her area. She had a Corvette when she turned 18. Her husband owned a large company.
You can drive a half hour from some areas that are well kept to finding a completely different stratum of society. Florida is unique.

Thank you..this is 100% accurate..I lived in north Florida..Caravelle 2 and a half years, than key large,2 and a half years..and did a lot of traveling all over the state...unless you have serious money you are living on the edge and worse..poverty, crime...and in those cases you are so vulnerable when hurricanes..and now a pandemic ravages ths state..I moved out of the state when the Keys became so over priced regular workers, even police officers could not afford to stay..Really heartbreaking...You have done a beautiful job with the video...Until people recognize thd truth it will only continue to deteriorate.

I lived in Miami/Opa-Locka until my kids were born. Miami for me was very depressing and stressful due to high crime rate, poverty, low pay, traffic congestion and folk moving there. You have to be bilingual in order to get a job, and the rent is ridiculously high. I am grateful with the decision I made to move out of FL to ATL. Now I have a better life living stress free and getting paid what I am worth. ++ If you want better, do something about your situation no matter where you live ++

I will say there is some really good people in Florida even in the smaller places, that being said, there is some hateful people too. I'm also a native Floridian, and I have lived in some of the smaller places in Florida as well as a couple of bigger cities too, and I have seen how people can be extremely racist, and I've also met some great people who were not racist at all. I will say though I remember in Mt. Dora back in the early 90's the KKK showed up in the middle of a parade to do a hate demonstration, I was so infuriated with that crap! Although I will say racism is not just by whites, I've seen it in all nationalities here. I want to make that clear, because ignorance comes in all colors, it's not a whites only thing. So many people hate each other. Everyone bitches about the secret ones in power, but what do we do, we still fight with each other over piddly sh** and let that distract us from the real corrupted ones.

@@patrickglennon6834 Miami Beach isn't anything close to "Hell" if you've got money. Miami Beach is packed full of expensive high rise condos that can be extremely nice, but they are very expensive (remember Miami was the cocaine capital of the U.S. for decades). But the city of Miami (not Miami Beach) on the other side of the bridge has some really, really, bad areas. Miami is a very diverse city and segregated into different communities based on race. The entire state of Florida is separated by the very rich and the very poor. There is almost no middle class (or it appears that way).

Most people were very rude and there was still alot of racial divide... but I will admit that I am starting to like it here. There's been an exponential amount of growth and you can see it in the housing market. Jacksonville is great if you're into having investment properties. This city has SO MUCH potential. The main issue I see in Florida is the amount of drug users. It's very sad to see so many broken people in such a beautiful state. Also, Florida residents could benefit so much from baiting in tech companies, etc.. There is not a lot high paying jobs in this state.

  • @scottperry7311
    @scottperry7311 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I think you did a very good job with this video. You don't pull punches or try to be politically correct. I have lived in South Florida for almost 25 years, and I have visited and worked in a number of the places you mentioned. One thing I noticed is that if you go to an area and everyone has fences, especially covering the front yard and driveway, watch out it a pretty bad area, unless its very wealthy. The Homeowners associations for the newer neighborhoods can hide bad neighborhoods to, because they look good due to the rules of the associations, but that is just the outer appearance Basically any area that is good or decent is pretty expensive in a lot of South and Central Florida now. Room is running out for new construction in Broward County and now the trend is to start to build up.
The traffic hear is getting like NJ and NY, and even outside of rush hour in Dade county there is tons of traffic. Iv been to lots of places in the U.S. and drivers here are the worse iv seen in the U.S. One of the big problems is that many people are from somewhere else and some of them act like they are the most important people in the world because they have arrived here, this is true of Americans moving here from the North and West, as well as people from South America, the Caribbean, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. The attitude towards work in South Florida is sloppy and you have to double check everything because so few people do a decent job at the work they do.
While I like Florida and plan to stay here, it is not the paradise people think it is. It is a lot more expensive here than it was 20 years ago but wages are pretty flat. New money from people moving here from colder parts of the U.S. and from the rest of the world is constantly pushing up housing prices. Not only this but a lot of drug traffickers, money launderers, organized crime and people with lots and lots of money fleeing foreign countries for various reasons live here and have unbalanced the economy here for the last 40 years.
There is a lot of poverty here, far more than people realize. The fact that its warm almost all the time helps hide the fact that there are a lot of homeless and very poor people that live in structures that they would not survive in through a northern winter.
I fear with all the northerners fleeing the failing northern tax ridden bankrupt northern states, that Florida might start down the same path that is causing the collapse of some of those states because they have not learned from those disasters.

Had family in the area- there are a "lot" of illegals in the area. Immokalee also has a huge drug problem, and the casino in the midst of a poor and working class area does not help at all.
When Rick Scott was still governor but running for the Senate, he met with a group of Pastors from there and other areas, they asked him for assistance with getting a Detox/Treatment facility out there due to the drug use etc.
There is mostly farming, and cattle, some hospitality industry...then of course the indian casino in the midst of all the poverty.
There is drug and human trafficking in these types of areas. It is great for the traveling traffickers of human misery to go through and offer their goods and re_supply their sellers I am sure.
      It is sad.

I was sent to America by a European country (exchange teacher) in Florida actually. I rented a car from the airport but I got lost trying to go to Pompano beach. I found myself and my daughter in a ghetto and we were the only 2 white females in a nasty mini market. A "black angel" (sent by God) approached and whispered in my ear that that was a really dangerous place. He offered to lead us to Pompano beach where he first stopped at the Fire station to assure us about his good intentions. The guard agreed that indeed we were in a bad area but now we were safe! I had in my suitcase a bottle of fine cognac and I offered it to this so kind black man who rescued us. Later on I bought a townhouse in Kendall Miami, a pretty nice area...but life made me and my daughter relocate to VA, NC, GA, SC, KY. I'm surprised you didn't include Lehigh acres. Because the crime there has gotten so out of control. The drugs on Fort Myers beach, took my only son last March, beware of even the "wealthy areas". So why are Florida's rural towns and newly developed cities poor?
    1. Rural towns - no "industrial" jobs, no service jobs since no one afford services. Not unique to Florida. Exception that I am aware of - Perry, FL is booming with industrial development and looking much better in the last 10-20 years.
    2. Poverty in the cities - low wages in an expensive area. Illegal employment is rampant and is driving down wages. Not unique to Florida.

Mostly older retired people or in my case. All family members worked at the Cape. I prefer Northern Florida. However all places have there own set of issues.

In Northwest Florida housing is not commiserate with income anymore. Hurricanes and tornados regularly take out blocks of neighborhoods and new homes are not being built to replace them causing an affordable housing shortage. Also, we absorb each other's displaced residents after disasters, contibuting more to the lack of housing and the predicatable housing price gouging that ensues. I think your title should specify that you cover South Florida ONLY. There's A LOT more to Florida than just the tip and a lot more poverty and blight and crime than you give us credit for..

Graduated high school in 1961 in Vero Beach Florida . I left in 63, I have no intentions of ever going back if I can avoid it. there was no jobs for high-school kid, the only thing you had was the service industry. if you were lucky you could get a job at Piper aircraft but they were due to a lot of layoffs. I don't have any desire to go back to any part of Florida.

There is always a seedy neighborhood in every town. If you have money you can build or buy a beautiful home in Fort Myers. I don’t find this area rude at all.

Born and raised in Miami here. I once took the Metrorail (if you're from Miami you'll know what I'm talking about) to the wrong stop, I forget if it was Overtown or Brownsville but when I got off and went downstairs there were about 50 Black kids yelling and screaming curse words at me telling me they were gonna rob me and kill me if I didn't give them my money. LOL. I was scared shitless. It was the wrong stop. Thankfully the old station attendant told me to get out of there before I get beat up or worse. The police did come eventually and kicked those kids away. NW Miami is VERY rough and if you're not from the neighborhood there and Black you need to stay away. Lots of angry African American folks live there who hate Hispanics and White people and anyone else who's not Black.

@@vickipaez6945 South Florida has become a nightmare. It's not just the crime but it's become a sort of LA or NY of the South. Way too many people, too much traffic, bad attitudes, rudeness, no sense of community, and it's gotten so expensive. I actually never really liked it there and have been living away from there for the most part since 2002. My family kept me moving back a few times after living in New York and out West. I finally left for the last time and never looked back, in 2015. I now live in Arizona and love it here. It's way better.
