Too often these days, people don't want to talk about the downsides of something for fear of being labeled "negative". You're doing a great service to be honest about the cons/problems.
My husband and I moved to Venice FL in March 2015 from Vermont. The first 3-4 mo. were ok. After 6 mo. he was diagnosed with an inoperable very large stomach tumor. Certainly took the wind out of our sails. Hated all of the traffic even in the Summer, spent every week going to doctor's office, difficult to get to anything, heat & humidity really wore me out, missed my children and grandchildren, missed all the Summer flower that I could grow in VT that I couldn't grow in FL, missed the change of seasons & Fall foliage, difficult shopping as my husband did most of the driving and we only had one vehicle. Then I started having heart problems and knee issues. After exactly 2 years moved back home and the doctors here removed his tumor and 2 years later corrected my heart issues, a year later I had knee replacement. We are both on the mend and happier to be back with our immediate families nearby. So now here's the virus - best place to be to get through it is Vermont.
I'm originally from Vermont.Have been down here since 92.it sucks.if I could afford Vermont now,I'd move back in a heartbeat! So glad you n hubby are getting the care you deserve.take care.
Jerry and Linda: Thank you for being honest and straight-forward about living in The Villages---it's not for us, but we appreciate your candor, and we wish you well.
You guys are the SWEETEST! couple. Down to earth, easy going, easy to listen to. Thanks for sharing. You are helping a lot of people make good decisions for their retirement. Keep up the good work!!
We got tired of nothing but old people. Even though we’re also old. It’s not healthy to be around nothing but people your own age. So we moved out and are much happier.
@@JERRYANDLINDA After 9 years I feel just the opposite. We use to go to Florida Mall in Orlando or Oaks Mall in Gainesville, or even the outlet malls in Tampa and Orlando. Being around that many young adults with children is a little unsettling when you have been away from it for so long. I prefer people my own age now. The people in The Villages I hang with are all young in one sense, we go to MVP Gym several days a week and work out and 18 holes of golf a day or two a week, I do more activities now than ever.
Give me old people living next to me any day than a family with a bunch of teenagers who think it's fun to blare their nutty music all day and most of the night, throw wild parties, etc. I love peace and quiet and living with people who still remember what it's like to be courteous and polite.
@@loisaustin6200 yes Lois, I agree. I'd rather be around people my own age or near it too, but where I lived in a senior high rise there was lots of misery. I think living in a neighborhood that is considered mature is best, Like where my house was. When I bought it I was 39 and probably more young than my neighbors. I liked it. But of course as time passed that neighborhood became gentrified and now it's filled with younger people. I found a new mature neighborhood that is affordable and I'm happy again.
Please, move to 🇨🇦 Canada. We would love to have you as our close neighbor. Love your videos, informations, personality and your dedication 👏. All the best. 😊🍁
Nice video. Honest and sweet. Retired also. Just moved from forest hills queens 2021to st.pete. but never owned a car. Then moved to tampa on riverwalk 2023. Too expensive. Not even here 1 year and my hoa is now 861.09 a month and the condo wants 4 thousand dollars for a roof assessment. Have a real estate agent now. Selling. Moving to Dunedin. Buying a smaller place with s newer roof and a 600 dollar a month hoa. Good luck at the villages. Much happiness. 😊
Thank you. So challenging living in the sunshine ☀ state. I am inspired to write 📝 a 📙 book about the challenges especially coming from the blue state. Dealing with hurricane 🌀 people no car etc insurance but I am too busy moving. Meeting great real estate agents.😊😊😊. My golden years are sure getting rusty quickly. 😮😮
I enjoy your videos so much. The two of you are relatable, logical and honest in your presentations. Such a lovely couple. Keep making these videos for us. 💕
Thank you Jerry and Linda for your honesty...wish you all the best...we’re moving to Florida in 6 months and will be reuniting with family and friends after 30 years of separation...we love Florida...the good...bad and ugly...just like anywhere else...it’s all What you make of it.
You are so gracious. Loved your video on what you don't like about the Villages. So far nothing that would keep me from moving there. Love you two!! Sorry to hear the family wasn't on board, but you have to do what's best for the two of you.
I agree totally, I like being around people of all different ages, especially younger ones, who I often find like being around older people and are very nice to them, we learn a lot from each other, at least in the condo I live in , where there are really nice people around.
Glad I found your channel. Live in Orlando ~ we’re considering a community like the Villages so helpful info from you. We do get tickled when up north people say oh my how can you deal with the heat ~ we laugh and say we do what you do in winter ~ stay inside and enjoy our air conditioning vs. heater
I lived in Orlando and moved to The Villages and I love it. Been in the Villages for 7 years. Do not believe everything they are saying. Do a lifestyle visit and see for yourself. When you visit talk to people that live in The Villages.
EXCEPT... the heat is uncomfortable and causes one to PERSPIRE! The winter cold, IF NOT PROTECTED, KILLS YOU! a very minor distinction I enjoy pointing out!
I love your honesty. My plan was to move to Tampa area for retirement. However, the house prices are out of reach for me now. I made a decision to build a small home in Shenandoah. I love the mountains and the seasons. I have decided to start a nonprofit for taking in cats, which I love. I will still visit Florida a few times a year. But, mountains are beautiful and my roots are there. Also, I'm a cancer survivor and my medicine makes me extremely sensitive to heat. That solidified my decision.
😮 Due north, just far enough away I won't be able to smell the Florida stinch. After 29yrs. I had planned on my Retirement! Changes were on the way I was not paying $$2,200.00 a mths. Rent period. Therefore I lost 2yrs. pay and $100,000.00 Florida stold from me. I will never return here and will discourage as many people as I can from moving here to leave it to the a Rich & Not so Rich. No wonder CRIME is picking up the pace. Shootings, Robberies, Traffic, Road rage and who knows what else. People here are very rude and inconsiderate of others! Got to get out of this undesirable state of mass confusion. Not structured for 3 million people moving here by 2024 and prices will continue to destroy your budget. Many here are simply waiting for their LEASE to end, for a new beginning in a whole different state! I could go on and on for days about Florida but no need to depress others. Pack it up and get out and you will be much happier. I checked prices elsewhere and you can buy a house for less than rent here in the Sunshine State that has become way to cloudy for me! Pass it on! #sunshinestate #floridarentals #costoflivinginflorida
Two weeks ago I went to Tampa. The Real Estate market started changing. The houses are not getting sold as fast as they did 3 months ago. That is the best indicator that the Real Estate market is slowing down and house's prices should start decreasing in order to be able to sell the properties. Patience is the key to buy a nice property when the prices get lower. Good luck!
Great video Jerry and Linda, my husband and I are considering moving to a 55 plus community and I had some of the same questions that you were answering. Thanks for sharing your experiences living there.
What most people gloss over is leaving your family. It is the single hardest part of moving away and strains relationships. Even snow birds have an issue with being apart from their loved ones.
Grown Adults should not be effected by what negative family members have to say! "Oh no, loosing our Free babysitter " is usually on their minds. Go live Your life to the fullest and to heck with everyone else.
@@daughteroftheking2200 - it’s funny you said that, in our case it’s 100% true. We have 5 daughters. They had 11 kids between them. First in ‘93, the last in 2010. We were the babysitter. One night a daughter called asking what we were doing for dinner, I replied nothing. She said great, we’re all going to Outback for dinner. I said good, I like Outback. She responded “I’ll drop the kids off at 6:30.” I was hurt. Another time...same daughter...asked me to sit her 3 year old and two month old. We were still working then, so I said don’t be too late, we get up at 6am to get ready for work. They never picked the kids up.....never called. We were up all night calling hospitals, frantic they were in an accident. We both had to call in at work, took a vacation day. At 11am she called. She said they got home late and decided to “LET THE BABIES SLEEP”, and went home to bed. I was beyond furious. Too many incidents like that, too often putting their hubby’s family first, never considering how they were hurting us. We eventually retired and moved 600 miles away in another state. We see them once per year....on our terms.
@@mchapman132 My mom babysat for my 2 sisters. 4 kids in total M-F from 7-5 and whenever they went out. Never once did they pay her. She did this for years. Never being able to go anywhere. I was furious that she would do this for nothing. Just because they are your grandchildren does not mean you should be taken advantage of. My mom passed away in 2006. My sisters both in their 50s now ask themselves why they took advantage of her so. Not one of their children ever had a babysitter other than grandma. We were military and did not live close so grandma did not babysit my children.
@@gardenia1953 - they don’t think mom and dad should have a life. We never took a vacation for over 25 years. College, weddings, we had no money left for us. We started to cruise in 2018, once per year. Two of them complained “you can spend money like that, but not visit us more often in Florida”. When we do visit Florida, those two don’t change their schedule and we have to accommodate them, and we pay for everything. Three are much easier to deal with, those two are difficult. Sorry about you mom, but I’m sure she enjoyed the kiddies. Stay safe.
@@sheilaslattery5645 what’s your point Sheila? When I was a young lady I moved on my own…I saved and saved then got out of dodge…I made it happen on my own…so what is your point?
@@MaryOKC I like your comment from a year ago, asking the other commenter what is her point about no one helping someone move to Florida. You saved on your own, and moved out. At age 71, I sold my car in California, packed up all my books and furniture, and moved to New York City -- all on my own, without help, other than hired help. What is the original poster's point about no one helped her move to Florida? You and I both saved and did our moves ourselves. PS - I am so happy in New York City. I could never live in such an artificial community as The Villages. I cannot even bare to go visit my friend who moved there last year. Yikes.
@@MaryOKC Are you a wacko..... Her point is obvious ! Is that we all, understandably want and expect help from family where possible... I am older and I help my younger relatives move whenever I can.... I have ordered you a medal and "a chest to pin it on" for your oh so proud independence 🤣
Hope you two survived the hurricane. Many thanks for your comments. I had friends who moved there from Las Vegas and think about retiring there because the Henderson)Las Vegas area has become an urban sprawl, increased crime and always hit here too. Best to you guys
Jerry and Linda..! thank you so much for this insightful look into the Villages..! I have looked at retiring there and visited there about 6 years ago. I know a lot of the pros and cons but you guys really put into perspective..!
My parents lived in Sun City Center, FL, south of Tampa Bay. They had many of the same complaints. My husband has said NEVER will we retire to a senior community in Florida.
I am going to move to florida for my retirement life, I did homework for a couple month, but very few people like to introduce the negative things, these information are very helpful for us. I real like your video and appreciate for share with us. I expect to get more information from you in the future. Thanks.
Thanks for info. I'm from the Chicago area and it was my dream to live in Florida. Took me 30 years, but I got here. I checked out a lot of cities and landed in the eastern coastal area. I have always been a homeowner, but did spend several years in a condo. That taught me many lessons, mainly, not to live in a controlled environment ever again. I'm in a regular neighborhood, I prefer a mix of ages, don't want to be surrounded by "old folks" (I'm 78.8) the biggest advantage of living here is the affordability. Electric didn't go over $100 this summer, winters are $30-$40. Taxes went up to $560 this year. Oh my! I'm in a modest home, corner lot. I could never have afforded to retire in chgo area. The "winters " here are great, but the summers are getting hotter, for longer periods of time. BUT, I find that there is no real cohesiveness with neighbors, friends etc. Everybody is from some place else. There IS a difference between a midwesterner and a new englander. We really are different birds. I have lived here 13 years and I'm amazed that I want to move. I want to see real trees, breathe cool air, see big hills and not sweat for 6 months. I had considered the Villages, but houses are way too close, too many people concentrated in one area. I probably belong in the woods with 10 cats, 5 dogs and a goat. But I'm too old for that now. Kids, grands in N. GA, I pray I can get up there. I envy and respect your move from Indiana and your honesty about your decision. You are blessed to be enjoying your decision of relocation. Enjoy.
Your comment got my attention as I'm from downtown Chicago and moved to CA. I have to get away from the fires but not sure if to move to FL or back to shy town. The real estate taxes in IL have doubled since I was there. Such a shame. Is the humidity worse in FL than Chicago? Any thoughts or tips?
@@Oilofmercy Don't move back to Chicago. Born and raised and still here outside in a suburb. Taxes highest in nation, and of course crime spilling outwards like I've never seen in 64 years. Really just the worst.
Very good points. We had done that visit/stayover in the Villages, July 2015. We stayed at Lake Sumpter (I think that was it). It was really hot. And for me, I don't golf. So I needed something else (aesthetic). We recently finally ordered a house in a 55+ community in coastal Southeast Delaware. 12 minute drive and I can get a large Dunkin Donut coffee and watch the sun come up on the Atlantic Ocean. That's me, but not everybody is me. The Villages have huge allure for many people. Your review is very helpful.
Thank you for the Great Video! My dad is coming down for his "visit" in November and I am so excited for him! Maybe he could meet you sometime? We lost Mom this past March and Dad has always wanted to winter / move to Florida. He LOVES to Golf. I think the Villages is the perfect place for him! I am sorry your family was not supportive. I am encouraging my Dad to live his best life from this point forward.
I was thinking about Florida as a snowbird myself in my future retirement. I go down often for vacay. But all the complaints I hear you talk about and the comments are what I have been worrying about. I get a little taste when I'm there. I may just go down for a few weeks and vacay around the state and keep me a small place in the Virginia piedmont area. Definitely do your homework and test the waters. I wouldn't live in the middle of the state though. Bugs just love me. I would be held hostage up in a screen porch. I appreciate your candor. You guys are adorable.
Sorry folks but it sounds awful to me. No one is telling me what colors I can have on my house or what I can put in my yard. I don't want neighbors on top of me and I HATE heat and humidity. Its bad enough for 3 or 4 months here in Wisconsin. I'll stick with my open land, privacy and yes ,snow. Your house looks very nice and you are a great couple, so as long as you're both happy I guess that's all that matter. Interesting video.
It was hotter, and gloomier, in Columbus OH and Louisville Ky summers than my 20 years in Naples FL. I moved from there to NM. After TWICE being assaulted violently. One a break in by a Realtor through my door lockbox. Last by a psycho guy who bought in my building of 13 years. Attacked. Injuries. No witness. The police do nothing to men with records, who attack a deaf woman who doesn't. I moved to keep from killing the last one.
@@ttnnaples8060 I moved from Louisville to Brandenburg 20+ years ago. I can go outside and most of the time enjoy our weather during the summer. My parents lived in Naples and could rarely go outside in the summer. Their golf course rates went from $150 a round to $25 during the summer. 🤔 Hmmm We winter 3 months and get back home to our gated community and enjoy the summer on our lake. 😎
I am a snowbird for January-end of March. I spend lots of $ and help the economy while I am here. The other 9 months I pay taxes and association fees. FL needs to appreciate the snowbirds. I would never live in FL year round.
I think you guys are doing a Great Service by putting the Pros & Cons out there. You guys are So Generous with your time and you are So Pleasant:-). We are just thinking about getting a Winter Home somewhat related in Florida. We live in Alabama but my Daughter lives in Ft. Pierce, Fl. Being able to get tee times would be Important to Both of Us:-)
I used to live in Ocala, Fl. I hated the villages and our taxes kept skyrocketing to the point that our house was foreclosed on. Our house taxes quadrupled in only a matter of 3 years.
@@JERRYANDLINDA That doesn't make any sense because Ocala is 25 to 35 miles away from The Villages. On Top of the World or Stone Creek and few other places on RT 200 would have more effect on property taxes in Ocala. Even that doesn't make sense because the buyer of a retirement community home would be totally different than someone buying in Ocala.
Your home looks lovely. I’m 69 and living in adults only (55 & up) apartments in the high desert above Los Angeles, Palmdale Ca. I have a two bedroom apartment with a floor to ceiling river rock fireplace. I wish I had more friends to socialize with, but I’m making the effort. It’s less expensive than living in my home town at the beach, as it was going sky high for houses and apartments. Everybody is having to move somewhere else because they can’t afford to live in their own hometown any more.
You two are so sweet. I would never leave the 4 seasons of Canada. We are coming to Florida as snowbirds one day soon for 6 weeks..but want to be at a beach. These videos are very informative as people need to get an idea of the various places down there.

Thank you, Nan. We appreciate it. We do want you to know that The Villages are actually quite nice we just want to give the absolute full picture to people that want to be well informed.
Love your input about the ends and outs of life in Florida ! So happy to hear you are from Indiana, I live about eleven miles from downtown Indianapolis, born & raised my whole
My husband and I are in Southwest Florida and love it. You hit the nail on the head on the negatives, but the positives for us totally out weigh the down side. We have lived here for 4 1/2 years and wouldn't change a thing. My family got mad at me too and some friends, but when I thought about reversing the circumstances, I would never be mad at them if they wanted to move. They are finally visiting for the first time this Christmas. I drew on the Bible verse of "a man shall leave his mother and a woman leave her home, they shall go and find a place of their own." It was HOT this summer! We have decided to go on Northern vacations this summer, although we visited friends and family up North and found it to be just as hot.
An enmeshed family is not a got thing. I feel people need to raise their children and move along. I'm creeped by people who are obsessed with clinging to adult child, then grandchildren and eventually great grand children. Family is good but then have your own life.
Another great video . . . Our family is similar to your’s .... and some of our close friends ... hey, we miss them, also but we all have one life to life and why not make it as happy as possible!! God bless you both. 💕💕💕💕💕
I am not happy with where i live but i do not want to live anywhere where they have association fees. Thank you for the information you are entitled to your thoughts
They NEVER give you your money worth. I live in an over 55 community and would get a lot more for my money if I kept my house. Lower taxes and only have to pay for want I need or want. I didn't have to pay for what the rest of the community wants. There all big businesses.
The nice thing about HOA's are they usually tend to try and keep the community looking nice which is why rules are put into place. My parents lived in Tavares and visited the Villages quite often. It was a more active community than where they lived down the road. They just moved to Las Vegas to be closer to my brother and I, and his kids. They live in a 55+ with an active HOA and the community is beautiful. May be cookie cutter to most, but you also don't have a row of neutral color homes and then one blazing purple or pink exterior colored home. Another with a broken down car in the driveway, or a camper/RV parked in the street. Just an opinion though.
Jerry&Linda, thank you again for your latest honest & so informative video, we sure appreciate your efforts in sharing your thoughts about the villages.
Going to Arizona but Florida looked beautiful thanks to you two. Just too much humidity for this wet gal from Washington State. I have really enjoyed your company so much. Until then Penny

Thank you for the videos. I moved to Fl and planned to retire there. However, had to move back to Midwest to help my daughter during/after divorce, but I know the Villages well, as I had planned to move there from Mt Dora after retirement which was my commute to Orlando while working. Love your happy faces, and even the negatives are not as bad as the winters in Midwest. Spent several weekends shopping in the Villages and listening to the bands. Sad / Retired in the cold.

@@JERRYANDLINDA I'm actually relocating soon😳 at 58 it's scary. I'm alone and my rent here out west went up so high I can't afford it anymore. So I'm moving to my Tribe's Reservation in Louisiana. Me being an elder allows me to live in special housing set aside for us. Like the way the Japanese revere their seniors, my tribe feels that same way. Sorry, went off on a tangent lol But I will be in the most humid, hot weather there. Right on the Gulf. What do you all do about mosquitos?
You guys are cute. I had no reason to watch this . I’m just a dog groomer in Port Charlotte, Florida with no plans to move but I did watch it and you are both adorable. Enjoy your new home and welcome to Florida ♥️
Hope all is well with you right now with Ian. I am in northeast FL & dreading this storm. You never get used to these hurricanes or the suffocating humidity! NEVER!
So much for being able to do what you want. I guess moving back home isn't a option? I couldn't handle someone telling me what to do with my house, especially my retirement house.
But that is what you get when you move into a place like this...they are not hiding anything and it is much like any other hoa property...If you dont like that kind of thing then dont buy in one. There is land all over the world...pick a different place its easy
I JUST THINK YOU 2 ARE ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE! PROS AND CONS - RIGHT ON IN MY OPINION! We just moved here 4 weeks ago. My Dad lives has been here for 9 years. Thanks for sharing!
I live in a Shea Trilogy community in AZ. Feel your pain. So many things were not made transparent when I bought the house. This had to be my last move because of health. 700 homes now. Planning 1500. HOA is run by reps from 4 builders here. Extremely high fees. Most classes and functions cost. Sadly Its been a disappointment.
The bloodsuckers pass the for profit encumberances with the land and toadies seeking to overlords the "community" and/or voting suckers with new rules and votes shoved down dissenters throats with a "but you can always sell" horseshet awaiting for new suckers..
We visited and took the tour and determined that the entire community is reminiscent of the "Stepford Wives" We ended up buying home in a small community (only75 homes) on the close outskirts of Naples ( better weather, better restaurants, great hospital and doctors, better shopping and a lot less HOA drama
I’ve never been to The Villages but I did live in Orlando for 8 months a number of years ago and Stepford was *exactly* my impression. The Villages sound like Orlando on steroids to me.
I like your video. In response to your desire to have a kayak, I wanted to share that Oru makes wonderful folding kayaks. I have had one for a few years and I love it. Takes about ten minutes to unfold and fold and weigh less than thirty pounds. I'm five feet tall, a hundred pounds and I lug my Oru all over the place.
The biggest problem in Florida is it's popularity is growing every year - this results in rising prices. High demand = higher prices. This includes maintenance fees/lot fees which over time can rise substantially. There are very few "bargains" left and the days of inexpensive "snowbird specials" are gone forever.
I understand completely about the family situation. We've been here just about a year as well an have been struggling over leaving our family behind, and how upset they were that we chose to leave. I hope they will eventually come around.
I live in ft myers. I miss Indiana. I’ve been here since 1992. I’m ready to get out of Florida. It’s become so expensive for the average person. I also lived in an HOA based development and it’s horrible. I don’t mind following rules and regulations but they just take it to a whole new level.
You two are adorable. Thanks for the honesty. I’ve lived in Polk for nearly 40 years (from Illinois) and raised two kids here. Yes it’s hot 😂 but I’ll take that over shoveling snow.
Thanks Jerry and Linda for your honest opinions. We are from N.H. and tired of the cold and snow but don't necessarily love the extreme heat either. You reaffirmed what we pretty much knew. You don't stand outside at -10 degrees in the winter and you won't stay outside at 90 degrees and humid in the summer, but at least you don't have to shovel the heat!
@@vickirobles3406 I agree N.H. is near perfect in 3 seasons. The winters as you get older are a lot of work if you own a large home. Plowing, shoveling, walking and driving on ice is treacherous. If you Ski, Snowshoe or Snowmobile its great.
Another great video. As far as family being hurt by leaving them behind and moving to the villages is sad. People should be supportive and understand that folks move their for lifestyle and, for some, affordability.
My wife and I really appreciate the time and effort you took to put out the good and to put out the bad we have chose new construction in Palm Coast low taxes no HOA.Thanks again
@@JERRYANDLINDA Thank you so much for responding. The “no HOA” was the deal maker for us so northern Florida here we come lol good luck and we hope the village’s work out for you.
Thanks for the vlog! Been here since 2010, very close to the Gulf and have never had any property damage from hurricanes! but had a few close calls. Mostly from tropical storms coming in or close to the Spring hill area, but never really a prob. And yes being from NY the heat & humidity is pretty bad starting in around late April!. The only prerequisite for living here in FL, gotta have a pool! Cheers,🍷🍷😎
I spent my childhood in Miami with NO AC. I can still hear the palm tree under my open window at night. But at 14 I decided I didn’t like Miami and within 18 months I met a charming boy from Boston, MA and married him. When I first arrived in Boston I loved it when I saw the quaintness and history. I absolutely love the change of seasons which Miami didnt have. Although the ex-husband is now living in Orlando, I prefer New England. I know what its like in Florida and I would never retire there. (My youngest daughter lives in Ft Lauderdale.)
I know what you mean about living without A/C, I grew up in St. Pete and we didn't get a window A/C until I was about 15 in 1965. I've lived in St. Pete, Pensacola, Savannah, Atlanta and Baltimore and now the Villages since 2011. I'll take The Villages. Weather is ideal, golf courses, the gym, 3 different squares with a live rock band everyday, 8 different Publix, 3 Walmarts, 2 Aldis, 2 Winn Dixie all in The Villages and accessible by golf cart. It's a big place now, about 40 square miles and 130,000 per this year's census. I-75 and the Florida Turnpike are both right here 5 miles awy, so within an hour you can be in Orlando or Gainesville, or Tampa.
Curious... horrible compared to where? Are you aware of the population increase in the US and its effects everywhere? TV traffic, at the height of snowbird season at rush hour, is but a TINY fraction of the traffic I deal with daily in California. Just curious where your point of reference lies? It could help me a lot.
Figured out why I liked your channel so much..it is your fun and pleasant personalities. What a nice marriage you have..and to think you met in High School. You can tell that you were professionals before. Glad you have found a way to express your creative energies and make a few dollars. I have lived in Florida and had parents who were snowbirds. Personally, I think Florida has changed, and has too much crime and is very expensive. Never quite felt safe there.
Too often these days, people don't want to talk about the downsides of something for fear of being labeled "negative". You're doing a great service to be honest about the cons/problems.

Sorry for your troubles, but glad you're doing well!
Health care in Florida is not the best
I'm originally from Vermont.Have been down here since 92.it sucks.if I could afford Vermont now,I'd move back in a heartbeat! So glad you n hubby are getting the care you deserve.take care.
So glad you all are.on the mend, I would take Vermont over Florida any day!
Never been to Vermont, but I encountered some uppity, elitist people in Naples, FL. I have very little interest to return there.
Thanks, Thomas! We appreciate it very much.
I think it's so important to see things from both sides-thank you so much for sharing.
We got tired of nothing but old people. Even though we’re also old. It’s not healthy to be around nothing but people your own age. So we moved out and are much happier.
Really? We live here and don't know any old people.
We agree, Howard!
You are two of the sweetest people I've ever met...stay together and stay just as sweet as you are...I love you guys!
Debbie, to make such a comment you must be one pretty sweet person yourself. Thank you so much.
Please, move to 🇨🇦 Canada. We would love to have you as our close neighbor.

I like how the couple interacts, obviously loves and respects the other! Bless you both! & Thanks!
Thanks Cecilia, we appreciate it.😁😁😁😁😁😁
Good luck. that is a beautiful area. we had relatives that lived in Dunedin for years.
Thanks for your candor. I've been to FL many times, ...couldn't handle the humidity, hurricanes, crocs, and bugs. Other than that, it was ideal! LOL
I enjoy your videos so much. The two of you are relatable, logical and honest in your presentations. Such a lovely couple. Keep making these videos for us. 💕
Thank you Jerry and Linda for your honesty...wish you all the best...we’re moving to Florida in 6 months and will be reuniting with family and friends after 30 years of separation...we love Florida...the good...bad and ugly...just like anywhere else...it’s all
What you make of it.
You are so gracious. Loved your video on what you don't like about the Villages. So far nothing that would keep me from moving there. Love you two!! Sorry to hear the family wasn't on board, but you have to do what's best for the two of you.
Linda your smile is infectious...it shows in your entire face! Sweet couple!
Oh, Susan! How nice of you.
I like living around younger people. I learn a lot from them. I like more diversity! Keeps me informed and in the now.
I agree totally, I like being around people of all different ages, especially younger ones, who I often find like being around older people and are very nice to them, we learn a lot from each other, at least in the condo I live in , where there are really nice people around.
Villages is only 55 and over
@@showgirlsaroundtheworldada4484 yes we know

Therefore I lost 2yrs. pay and $100,000.00
Florida stold from me. Pass it on! #sunshinestate #floridarentals
#costoflivinginflorida
Two weeks ago I went to Tampa. The Real Estate market started changing. The houses are not getting sold as fast as they did 3 months ago. That is the best indicator that the Real Estate market is slowing down and house's prices should start decreasing in order to be able to sell the properties.
Patience is the key to buy a nice property when the prices get lower. Good luck!
Great video Jerry and Linda, my husband and I are considering moving to a 55 plus community and I had some of the same questions that you were answering. Thanks for sharing your experiences living there.
Our pleasure FriscoRed. We are so glad that you enjoy them.

Yikes.

Very informative. Thank you and wishing you both many more years of good health & happiness :)
Hope you two survived the hurricane. Many thanks for your comments. I had friends who moved there from Las Vegas and think about retiring there because the Henderson)Las Vegas area has become an urban sprawl, increased crime and always hit here too. Best to you guys

My dad just bought a house there. He loves it. We love it. Very happy for him
Wooaaahhhh ! Too far with the wind chimes . Luckily I live in a lower income neighborhood and I have tons of wind chimes. It drowns out the sirens 😆
I am so sorry your families aren't more supportive. My family is helping me pack-can't wait to get rid of me! Thanks for another great video.
They should be ashamed!
My parents lived in Sun City Center, FL, south of Tampa Bay. They had many of the same complaints. My husband has said NEVER will we retire to a senior community in Florida.
Gosh I'm so sorry about your lack of family support. Not surprised. Remember, friends are the family you CHOOSE. :)
I am going to move to florida for my retirement life, I did homework for a couple month, but very few people like to introduce the negative things, these information are very helpful for us. I real like your video and appreciate for share with us. I expect to get more information from you in the future. Thanks.
You two are too cute. Perfect example of compatibility, love, and respect.

Thanks for sharing your story! You inspire us! Wishing you both a Merry Christmas from Kentuckiana!
Enjoy.
Thanks for your comments, we appreciate it!
I went to Brenau College decades ago, and still remember the Gainesville area fondly. Go!!! 😊

Thank you for your honesty, I have been thinking of moving there just today.
See you when you get here!
Thank you for your candid thoughts! You've provided so much great information AGAIN! Thanks!
We are thinking about moving to the villages from Missouri. Thank you for this wonderful, honest assessment. I sure hope we can meet you.
See you when you get here!
Did you ever move to the villages?
Great Video, I appreciate you sharing your honest opinions! Thank you!
It’s great that everyone can craft the life they want, set their priorities, and find what they like. We have endless variety.
@Mary H Renting a home in AZ this winter. The weather is fantastic! Need to stay hydrated here.
I've lived all my life in 4 distinct seasons, have no desire to give that up!
Snowbirds are smart. Spend the best 4 months that Florida has to offer, then head back north to avoid the hottest 2/3 of the year. :-)
🤔 Hmmm
We winter 3 months and get back home to our gated community and enjoy the summer on our lake. 😎
I'm sure many more people would do that if they could afford it.
I am a snowbird for January-end of March. I spend lots of $ and help the economy while I am here. The other 9 months I pay taxes and association fees. FL needs to appreciate the snowbirds. I would never live in FL year round.
This is our plan.
I think you guys are doing a Great Service by putting the Pros & Cons out there. You guys are So Generous with your time and you are So Pleasant:-). We are just thinking about getting a Winter Home somewhat related in Florida. We live in Alabama but my Daughter lives in Ft. Pierce, Fl. Being able to get tee times would be Important to Both of Us:-)
No place is heaven on earth or we'd live forever here. Thank you for your honesty!!!😂❤
I used to live in Ocala, Fl. I hated the villages and our taxes kept skyrocketing to the point that our house was foreclosed on. Our house taxes quadrupled in only a matter of 3 years.
Hating The Villages because you live in Ocala sounds like hating Tennessee because you live in Kentucky.
Ocala is in Marion Co. The Villages (for the most part) is in Sumter Co. Your reasoning defies all logic and reality.

Put your wind chimes in the house in front of a fan.

Love your input about the ends and outs of life in Florida ! So happy to hear you are from Indiana, I live about eleven miles from downtown Indianapolis, born & raised my whole
Hello Lynda
How are you doing today/
I always enjoy all your videos. thank you!
Another great video . . . Our family is similar to your’s .... and some of our close friends ... hey, we miss them, also but we all have one life to life and why not make it as happy as possible!! God bless you both. 💕💕💕💕💕
Thank you for your videos. We are Buckeyes and appreciate the straight forward Hoosier talk.

I just started watching your videos! It’s interesting to see other places. You guys do a great job!
🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
I can’t thank you two enough for being so positive and providing context. You two really are salt.
Henry, Thank you so much!
Thanks for taking this on and sharing your experience. Very helpful
Thank you! I will never move to such an institutionalized and prison- like environment. Very good report.
I can't help but wonder in another 20 years if most people will be gone from there? After the honeymoon. Phase all wears off
@@suzsnnesanders4742Good Comment. 👍🏻.
We talk, but usually have to initiate it.
I live in ft myers. I miss Indiana. I’ve been here since 1992. I’m ready to get out of Florida. It’s become so expensive for the average person. I also lived in an HOA based development and it’s horrible. I don’t mind following rules and regulations but they just take it to a whole new level.
go back. bye.
Excellent information. Thank you for doing this video.
Good one... about shoveling the heat!! 😂
Those who have nothing to worry about, will worry about nothing.
My wife and I really appreciate the time and effort you took to put out the good and to put out the bad we have chose new construction in Palm Coast low taxes no HOA.Thanks again
David, we gave Palm Coast some very serious consideration before we moved here. It looks like a lot of fun living on those canals.
Cheers,🍷🍷😎
You are a cute couple and I see the love and affection you have for each other....so nice to see!
Thanks, Toneman!
THE VILLAGES FLORIDA NEWCOMERS w
Agreed, i am retired in Las Vegas. We do have some winter that I enjoy!😀
Been here 20 years. You’ve only touched on the negatives we have experienced. Traffic is horrible! Keep up the info!
Curious... horrible compared to where? Are you aware of the population increase in the US and its effects everywhere? TV traffic, at the height of snowbird season at rush hour, is but a TINY fraction of the traffic I deal with daily in California. Just curious where your point of reference lies? It could help me a lot.
Thank you! I love Florida this was very informative.
Hello Carol
How are you doing today?
