Funny thing to note is that the top 2 are broken by having FPS and fighting game mechanics, respectively. They break the game by being outside the genre.
Eh, cheesing an enemy with ranged isn't exactly outside the RPG genre, can argue that it's actually part of it. Main thing with prompto is cheesing the aggro range, which is kinda common in MMORPGs at least. And the fighting game part is more of a QTE before it became a mainstream thing with all games.
Honorary mention: FF6 Sabin suplexing a train.
While not the most damage, just the ability to suplex a train is hilariously broken.
This is probably reason enough to never remake FFVI 😅😅

Cid Orlandeau is a beast. He was so OP that when I had it, I thought he was a limited time character.
Yeah the first time I played Tactics I thought he was a God-send. Every time I play FFT now I debate whether or not I want to add him to my party when he shows up as it just makes the rest of the game too easy

Apparently if you level up Edward (FF4) until the 70s his stats start to grow better than anyone else. For some reason.
He's still a spoony bard. More of a big badass ladle perhaps?

Correct but for the parts where he is temporary he's pure CRAP since his max HP is so low the bosses he can fight before you first lose him may kill him in 1 hit.

Love the Quina respect here. It can be a pain to find Blue Magic and catch 99 frogs, but a cheap, consistent 9999 attack and the versatility they provide with all their other abilities make them the MVP every time I fight against Ozma.
Yuffie is better than Aerith in Rebirth imo. Notice how all of Aerith's traits are buffing Yuffie. Arcane Ward on Yuffie's doppelgänger, Atb ward on Yuffie's brumal form etc
Yeah if I had to include one on a list like this from rebirth it would be Yuffie. But I'm not sure I would include any of them because on their own they're just not as game breakingly busted as all the others on the list. They are very strong though
tifa is the best solo character, yuffie+ aerith probably strongest combo late game

yuffie can literally crash the game with just doppleganger + plasma from enemy skill 😭

Nice list, but I feel like including Selfie because of the pausing glitch is stretching a point. She’s not broken because of a specific strategy, but by abusing a software bug.
Not quite as good but you can use defend to make her immune to physical damage and auto-reflect for normal spells.
That only leaves bosses exclusive magic-based attacks that can't be reflected.
Balthier doesn't get enough credit for his FFT appearance. Nobody is surviving a barrage from him with a halfway decent weapon
Berserk Balthier with Genji accessories in OG 12 was absolutely busted and mandatory for Yaizmat
He’s a great character, but he’s overshadowed by others in his own game. He’s probably the 4th best character in WOTL, but given how broken the other 3 are, he deserves a mention.

You could steal their weapon and reequip lol. It's what he has over Orlandeau let alone more speed if he has haste. A fun way to troll I did a vid with was using a poison crossbow and giving poison to a 2nd enemy on my last shot. Funny for those weaker enemies.
@user-uw2zl4kx5v nah he's number 1 with monk setup upon joining (level 6 monk, unlocks geomancer so you can get attack boost right away after barrage let alone habe counter or critical recover Hp which helps with his high HP to usually go into critical) and he can steal weapons with better rates than a thief or disable the others. People just like Orlandeau because he does big damage without learning anything, and isn't a hidden character. 4:15 is proof of that as holy sword isn't busted at all. It's Orlandeau's high stats, unless you want me to arcane strength iaido everybody.
I was pretty surprised to see Wakka on here. Yeah, his attack reels do the most damage in the game with his celestial weapon and max stats, but the setup to get there is extremely long and fairly difficult. Since you have to effectively master blitzball. Which entails recruiting the right blitzball players and also playing it enough to level them up and get the right skills and then also have to play through multiple tournaments and leagues. Which is kind of a waste of time when you have Rikku and Tidus, who have two fairly quick and easy celestial weapons to get. And you can just abuse them mashing OD and quick hit. In the time spent getting Wakka to max out, you could have done everything already. So I wouldn't really call him broken because of the time investment needed. I'd say that Yuna is more broken, since you can pretty easily get Zanmato to come out and one shot almost every enemy in the game.
Tidus crest (or was it his sigil) was a pain to get. Damm chocobo.
Rikku definitely busted, she is the easiest character to solo run the game
Zanmato is the key. Wakka's full Attack Reels are awesome, hitting up to 12 99,999 caps, but being able to one shot Penance in exchange for just gil is the most broken.
Blitz all is only hard at the start with the basic team.
The ships pilot is a broken BB player, he is one of the fastest and all his stats besides maybe catch are higher than every other player. He can field any position (besides maybe goalie) I had him in middle. He would one shot their midfielder and would be able to shoot straight away. I swear one game I got over 10 goals with him.
@@slobiden.2593 Yep; I always start by recruiting Brother (the pilot, Rikku's brother) as the midfielder, Ropp for defense, and Wedge as a forward. Wedge has dominant stats for breaking through defenses as well as access to tackle slip early. Pairs well with Jecht shot eliminating defenders on the other side. Brother's early game stats are dominant and will regularly win possession as well as recovering fast enough to help the defense, and Ropp is a huge boost in the back over the default Aurochs. Then you just have to save scum and run games while you pick up your preferred end game roster. For me that's Nimrook in goal from the Al Bhed Psychs, Kulukan/Vuroja/Larbeight from the Kilika Beasts, and I keep Ropp and Tidus with Wakka on the bench for nostalgia purposes.
Celestial Weapon actually don't affect Overdrive damage, only the Strength stat does.

I know you said no classes, but the Monk from FFI deserves an honorable mention. He requires no Gil for equipment, and at higher levels he is capable of defeating Chaos with a single attack.
alot of people dont understand that you can equip multiple of the same materia and link them all with different support Materia and the single spell will receive the benefits from all the buffs. Only one you cant stack is magic focus
I feel like being a little more generous and describing broken characters within their games.
FF6: We have a few contenders here. But 'psycho Cyan' and gau are typically known ones where if you get the right rages, gau can solo the game.
but... there's also Mog... mog's dances are always able to abuse, and it's always easy to learn Mog's dances. Mog also has some of the highest all around stats, uses polearms which is great if you want to go the dragoon route, or be a mage tank. Can equip the snow scarf which is the best accessory in game AND... mululu charm.
ff7 base: Yuffie has some of the strongest limit breaks, being in backrow is a huge help AND she has the best full slot and ultimate weapon with Oritsuru and COnformer. The levels of difference in these compared to the others is massive. She can also overflow glitch Emerald the quickest with All creation +5 hero drinks. She's also incredibly useful for stat farming and is your go to for the 3 to use for 'materia leveling' with the rising sun also being the strongest double weapon for it. Tifa may have the most busted weapon for speedrun, but outside of that, all strengths go to Yuffie. Especially since Tifa caps out pretty early and never gets better.
ffX: It is slightly correct to say wakka can do the most damage...sometimes. Kimahri actually can do the most damage when you have a version that allows you to hit the 999,999 limit. Nova is so strong that he doesn't need to max his stats to max that damage out. It's AoE, ignores magic defense, so even on 'tanky enemies or physically immune' it still maxes out.
i think in rebirth aerith was only "ok", yuffie on the other hand.. oh boy that girl fits so many carried fights into her
your FF12 job assignments are the same as mine except Penelo was the black mage and Ashe the white mage
“The End” by Selfie was the most broken of all, it ignores whatever hp or even its a boss, everything will be 1 hit.
I feel like there should have been a few honorable mentions like Jecht from Dissidia and Dissidia 012 since he can block nearly any attack, including HP attacks, which are normally unblockable. And Exdeath from the same game who can also block nearly anything and counter with his own move to boot.

@@LocalChoker nice try kid, but with Beat Rush (or Bum Rush for us puritans) Sabin moves so fast he doesn't even have to punch the enemy to absolutely decimate them.
He can also suplex himself which is even more impressive IMO

People took Quina as a joke when FF9 was new. I don't fight Ozma or Hades without her.
And Orlandu might be the most broken character in all of FF.
Too bad it's a PAIN to get blue magic, Quina's normal attacks do random damage, and how Quina doesn't add much to the story.
I actually think back in the OG PS1 version Orlandu is not even the most broken thing about the game, have Ramza yell or scream to 50 speed and he'll be attacking 10 times in a row.
And I specified OG because OG Calculator didn't need MP to cast magic, you can just use a full party of Knights with Excalibur and Calculator command spamming Holy. You don't have to move a single step in the entire battle to attack potentially every single enemy at the same time while healing your whole party.
@@manidavis4126Personally i always thought that it was fun to enter battles and find new magic spells. As for their role in the story you're kinda right but even then that fits Quina, they didn't even need to join the party yet they tagged along just to taste food around the world. Quina is a character that is supposed to represent the simplicity of life and they do that perfectly.
Quina’s one of those characters that sucks when you don’t understand them, but really good when you know how to use them. Personally I think Zidane/steiner + 1 or 2 of the other mages are better for like 90% of fights in the game, but I’m definitely gonna have to try the magic hammer strat on ozma. The only thing that makes that mf hard is meteor so if you can turn that off, it should be gg
Someone forgot the arithmetician, dual wield blood sword and faster Balthier for Orlandeau, but yes Quina is similar to ff5 chemist or ff6 gau where you gotta research to exploit the game. Setzer kinda counts too, with pixel remaster allowing boost so his fixed dice with rapidfire and a black belt can do a ton (and you can turn off encounters in kefka's tower to get fixed dice first thing world of ruin).
While not broken on its own, I do like that Amarant's upgraded MP restoration skill is MP positive to himself. It's fun to use the flashy inefficient spells/summons and have him make up for it by, functionally, being an infinite use MP restoration item.
Woooooo! Deuce for the win! Side note...for replay missions, you can rack up mad SP with her by giving her support songs, and she just force berserks your random charater into destroying everything, plus the healing song keeps em going till they leave. That and a protect spell -chef kiss-
Ace was pretty broken too with the right set up..i loved that game. Sad i feel im the only one -.-
Type Zero is the only FF I played that reached 999:59 hours and I main Deuce, she's just too strong

I love Type-0 too and think about how we will never get Type-Next almost everyday, that secret ending was sick.
Other broken members that I remember:
- Gau: By having stray cat he can easily kill most of the early game enemies, not to mention his Wind God mod.
- Edward: With his final weapon and hide ability makes him a beast.
- The Warrior of the 1st Final Fantasy: High attack, high defense, yo don't need anything else, 4 warriors a couple of potions and you can kill everything.
As for the jobs, the alchemist from any FF game that has it and the matematician from FFT, attack to whoever you want, move wherever you feel like, not even Orlandu dares to be this broken.
You should've put a Bonus tier, Vincent or Barret's error attack that kills everything in one hit
Cid really is the GOAT. Everyone said everything there is to say about him in FFT, so I'll mention something else. In FFXIV, they even nerfed him, cause he was wiping too many parties in the Alliance Raid he's in. Post nerf, he still does anyway. He might be busted, but he's too badass to not like. I just love that in FFXIV, we're on the other end of what we did to enemies with him back in the day lmao
No.1 is definitely Orlandu because everything about him is broken. He is not conditional on anything either. He comes with one of the best gears of the game, so many of the best abilities in the game all in 1 character. He is just too good and doesn't sacrifice anything. He can regain HP majorly by just attacking, can break oppoenent's equipment including the weapons. None of his abilities carries any MP cost, risk or cooldown and have great range. Plus he is a party member that you get by just playing the story. There is no condition to unlock him. Compared to others 1. Zell - he needs to use limit break and low health or else he is the same as other characters. 2.Prompto - has quite low stats and die easily if you get too close to the enemies and don't abuse AI ignoring you from range. He does good damage but so do other members of that game. 3. Rikku - also conditional, she has to have full limit break bar to use those broken moves and cannot do every single turn like Zell or Orlandu. 4. Zidane, Freya, Quina - they need farming certain things to obtain 9999 damage. They are not given for free. Also those abilities cost MP. 5. Selphie - Broken but not spamable. Need to abuse things like opening disk reader for PS1 or else you are racing against time to use this ability while the enemy has free attacks against you. 'The end' is not in all table chart. Some chart do not contain it, you could look for ages and don't find it. 6. Wakka - Post game he is the same as other characters outside the limit break. You get the full picture. Orlandu is most broken. The others are not even comparable.

FFT is a highly exploitable game if you know what you're doing but even for a player that doesnt, Orlandu does it for you. Most of the characters on this list require knowledge to make them broken. The Thunder God simple joins your party and immediately lives up to the name.
Im happy to see my girl Deuce on this list, on the playthrough that i beat ff type 0 on i decided to play her as a shitpost but it turns out she's genuinely beyond cracked

i love how ff8 takes up two slots, i love you can break ff8, on the other hand you can make the game tougher by not using the junction system. even with two of the most broken characters its still a challenge.
Seeing Vanille, Selphie, Rikku, and (sorta) Yuffie up there makes my heart smile! FF Perky girls for the win!
if THE END NEVER triggers Selphie goes from 100% broken to being pure CRAP in FF8.
In FF7 Rebirth its 4 times quake if cast with Yuffie when she had a clone active and you casting it while you stand in the circle.
Idk if it counts but ffta blu using matra magic would switch the targets hp and mp… usually reducing them to single digits since everyone starts with 0 mp, u could use a fusilier to ether shot the blu to give them mp and then the blu could 1 shot an enemy that hasn’t had a turn yet or just get them low and snipe them with a ranged attack
TYTYTYTYTY for putting Vanille and the FF7 Remake Trilogy Aerith on here!!! Also, the ability that lets her fire off a second spell if she’s standing in the ward is “ARCANE WARD” not “magic ward, and that second spell isn’t fired off for free, just at a reduced MP cost.

Every time, I feel like the others require some setup or knowledge. But getting the best weapon in the game FOR FREE with the best class is crazy. Even if you don’t understand the mechanics CID is too good. He will be #1 in my book for being easy to use.
@@danielhaugh4730 agree. the game will become a walk in the park once you acquire him. And the fun part is, you'll only need to do story quest to get him unlike others that requires side quests like baltier and cloud.
Minwu is the type of broken character where they're so OP you already know their fate. Just like Orca from Dot Hack.

i like the infinite ATB exploit with Yuffie and utilising arcane ward wherever I can, but as someone who has completed the rebirth platinum i would hardly say they're game-breaking or broken. The game itself is though, some of those brutal and legendary challenges are way overtuned
Anyone who has seen a Final Fantasy VI speedrun or glitch exhibition knows that Relm is the most broken character. Her sketch ability bends space and time.
For people who don't understand just how broken Rikku is; a solo run of the game with Rikku without leveling up a single time is not even considered a challenge if you're allowed to use her overdrive.
Basically, she is so busted that you can easily beat the entire game by herself without leveling up a single time. Wakka surely is strong and the next strongest character in that game, but he's only that strong when he has the equipment and stats to back it up.
As far as classes go, the Alchemist from X2 has to be up there. Thier Stash command allows you to use items that you don't even have, and if you don't mind a huge grind, that includes free Megalixers. Every turn. Drink up, it's ladies night!

I honestly never really played Aerith in Remake AND Rebirth. Her health is just to low or I’m just to bad.
So as soon as i got Yuffie I sticked to her and she carried me in so many situations 🙌
fang is better than vanille. yes vanille's death comes in handy for obtaining an early growth egg and turtle farming but once you're maxed out the true strongest character is fang by a landslide. highwind is too good.
I remember when i finally learned of Quinas lvl 5 death. The rest of the game was kind of a breeze once i had killed of dozens of those dragons with it 😂
Right now its Yuffie with Enemy Skill(Plasma Discharge) + HP Absorb/ Haste/ Doppleganger + Mug. Who allowed this girl to be a literal Pikachu flavored Super Saiyan 😭.
Gau in FF6 can break the game, including soloing kefka with one of his Rages. I believe it's Rafflesia.
I agree with everyone on this list though. Havent played Type 0 though.
Yeah Rafflesia inflict the same statut as Goddess, which no bosses is immune to.
for those who don't know about Rikku's Hot Spurs and Eccentrick Mixes is that they do stack
cid is absolutely the number 1 most broken character. No other character was so completely broken from the moment they join you. Tactics goes from being a moderately difficult game (especially if you're new to the genre) to a brain dead easy game the second he joins you. No other character in the series has ever had such a profound effect on the overall difficulty scale of their respective game.

Interesting about zell I never really used him in ff8 so I had no idea he was so broken.
I thought Night was Quina's worst ability. I tried one time on my first playthrough and just thought it sucked. I might try it again. I already knew about Limit Break and Frog Drop but since IX is so easy I really never made the effort to try and break the game.

Final fantasy tactics is my second favorite game in the franchise..might be a controversial take but the Chemist is probably the best job/class in the game..or at least the Item ability...have a chemist or put the item ability on a character or two that mastered chemist and your party will almost never go down if you keep up your supply of items which are really cheap and more reliable than white mage cures
Vanille's death is not broken simply because it's an instant kill with no resource cost. It's also broken because Commando buffered Death does insane damage up to 1m. And the cherry on top, unlike other characters like Snow or Fang who have 1m damage moves, Death does not end stagger. Vanille will carry you into all the late game fights even for monsters immune to death. In terms of her strength proportional to the game I still think it's only in the middle compared to other games since FFXIII has very few ways to not play the stagger game.

I played FF8 when it first released. Thought it was okay, but I only knew the minimum about junctioning and levelling. I didn't even do much with triple triad. About 5 years ago I stumbled across a video about how broken it can be so I had to try it again and it was a blast!
FF8 is great! My personal favorite of the series
OG FF7 Vincent.
65,535 kills = overflow glitch for his Death Penalty weapon, allowing you to one-shot almost every enemy in the game, including Emerald Weapon.
One single attack is roughly 1.2 million points of damage.
Barret can achieve overflow as well, by loading 8 mastered KOTR in his Missing Score and feeding him Hero Drinks.
And yes I’ve acquired both.
Doing both for that in FF7 even on the PS4 remaster Infinite HP MP limit cheat + 3x speed still takes TOO long and even with 3x AP rate weapons to KoTR Ruby/Emerald weapon to death on disc 2 Cloud or Cid only still won't have to mastered AFTER both are killed by it.
I love Quina's Matra Magic but deym the accuracy is fooking low! hahha

For Jobs, I think the only version of Summoner that isn't busted is the one in Bravely Default (which you may not be counting as an FF game). Summoners usually get offensive, healing, and support summons, making them a stronger version of both Black and White Mages.
Red Mages are also always strong. They either get Dualcast to make other mage jobs ridiculous, or essentially end up being nearly as strong as Black Mages while also having access to healing and support abilities.
For physical jobs, I don't think there's ever a bad instance of Knight/Paladin or Monk, though they won't usually break the game. Rangers and Ninjas, on the other hand, are almost always the best damage dealers due to getting free hits in some way.
For a more obscure job, the Assassin in FFTA is broken. They have the highest speed in the game, and essentially have 4 different ways to kill opponents (KO, Stone, Sleep+Doom, and high damage).
Jugglers are another Job from FFTA I really like. Early game, just use Dagger to deal about as much damage as your Archer/Sniper/Hunters basic attacks while also potentially inflicting Disable. Late game, just use Smile on your Assassin to have them take another when out before the opponent's team even gets a turn.
It’ll be an insane list honestly.
Red mage is OK but duel cast takes TOO LONG 999 AP to learn in FF5 and even then IT doesn't WORK for bahamut.
@@veghesther3204 Yeah it absolutely takes forever to learn, but what do you mean by it not working with Bahamut? I've only played the Adv version where Dualcast works fine with him, and I couldn't find anything about a bug on the original that prevented you from using the two together.
For nearly EVERY version of FF 5 I played duel cast never really worked with Summons or Blue magic just black and white spells only even FF5's Quick spell didn't allow 2x Bahamuts to be used in 1 turn/

Ramza ability to scream break the game. Giving one speed ma pa and 10bravery is op when abused. Ramza start to have crazy stats when spammed. It break the difficulty of the game.

Steiner is a broken character even with weak weapons because on Trance mode his attack will be 4 times I puffed him with Ekio’s might, MP attack, berserk close range attack using ice based element weapon ( Ice Brand ) with 12 attack points turned into 9999 damage

Haha yes. It was a mistake on my script. I ended up shifting things around near the end but missed some clean up on my writing.
I actually would have gone with Barrett in FF7R. Lifesaver uses 1ATB and will absorb all damage taken by the party until he has 1HP. As long as he doesn't die, you don't even need to recast it. You can pair this with the Enemy skill Self Destruct (that would normally kill you) and Barrett will tank all the damage without dying. Use Chakra with Barrett and repeat. It's also accessible very early in your playthrough.
Sabin. Magic is the most important stat in FF6. Level him with an esper and his blitzes will guarantee 9999
Regen is short for "regenerate" so it's not pronounced "regain".
You must've really done your research to make a list like this dude. I find it fascinating that magic is actually broken in a Final Fantasy game. Also, yes, Quina is pretty broken, I'm surprised you didn't bring up the fact that they can eat some bosses.

Gau in FF6 with the right rages wrecks house from the moment you get him. Stray Cat gives you the most damage out of anyone super early on and it trivializes an already easy game.
I'm playing ff6 for the first time and the guide I'm using mentioned this. I just did the Opera House and Ultros and got Terra back.... I decided to pull Gau out of my party because he was just single-handedly wrecking everything... even though I'm staying fairly low level, only using 0.5x xp. Lol
Don't forget that Relm's "sketch" truly can BREAK the game in ways and boundaries still being explored to this day!
He has one where he can literally make it so enemies can't hit you. Including Kefka.

@@EchoFoxtrot21 Gau isn't as powerful end game as a bunch of the roster, he doesn't compare to like Locke who can Genji Glove + Offering for like 80k damage.

Irvine is limited by his number of Ammos, with high strength and Luck tough you can pull off 50 shots each dealing 4000-4500 with Crits damage dealing up to 200-225k in one turn, not as much as Zell can pull off in one turn (he can very well deal 1 million damage in 1 turn if you get the highest timer and are very fast with the inputs), but the animation is much faster.

Fusoya from FF4 would be my only addition. Hands down the best character in the game, and so broken that you only get him for a very brief time.

About that even with 255 Str I still only had AP/Pulse ammo be the only ones to do 9999 per hit EVEN AFTER using Meltdown against Omega AND those 2 ammos are SO SLOW to fire I only got like 3 to 4 shots of AP/Pulse ammo off PER turn though you CAN get the full 100 Pulse ammo on disc 1 you just NEED Kiros Laguna and Ward ON DISC 1 DURING the FIRST Lunatic Pandora scenario ALL at lvs over 30 each Laser Cannons you steal off of Lv 30+ Elastiods = 5 Pulse ammo each the Lionheart ON DISC 1 needs 12 of it.
But you can still steal enough Laser Cannons TO make the Lionheart have 100 Pulse ammo AND have Quisis learn a Limit break off of a Laser Cannon.
Rikku and Wakka can blast everything in that game. They are absurdly OP.
You left out Edgar from ff6! Dude can literally walk through the monster arena uncontested as long as you don't try to fight chuppon. Being able to hit for max damage 8 times and just going again is pretty busted. I know you can teach every Character all the magic but you can make Edgar king of the arena by only teaching him quick and giving him the genji glove offering combo with attack weapon and ragnorok or illumina. Just sell his tools and don't grab the chainsaw til after you complete the arena in the end of the world. He will never lose in the arena like this.

Golbez does have a good start, but he does fall short by the endgame

About that if you use the same FF4 party members that KILL Zeromus in their own game Cecil Rydia Rosa Kain and Edge SEVERAL of them IE more then 1 have a break 9999 damage cap that's why Golbez is pure crap even when NOT using those moves since Bahamut should still do 9999 per use when Rydia summons it at lv 55 in After years.
