That hive is amazing. I'm going to try and build one similar with 4 supers too. Great work.

I thought the reason for the long hive was so you dont have to lift heavey boxes. You just remove honey frames once they are filled and capped. frames are

I split the hive on mine. Just want to lift the hive once and leave them. That's why I build Long Hives.

Hi i was thinking about building a long langstroth hive from your Experience do the bees build faster on a long lang. Or in a traditional langstroth hive ?

I'm intrigued by this 2x long design, but have some questions. Now that you have worked both the standard vertical Langstroth hive and the horizontal long version, which one do you prefer? Was the long hive more or less labor intensive to work than the standard vertical? Did it require more or less manipulation of the comb? Some beekeepers claim that bees in long hives are less temperamental than in other hive types, in your opinion, is there any truth to this? How much honey did you get from the supers, compared to ones on your vertical hives?

Hi Trev, nice video and some size a hive!! few questions for you?
what type of bees do you work with buckfast or carniolan ?
Also why have you got a brood box on top of the suppers on the beebox hive behind you?

Hello Trevor, I noticed that on several of your hives, certainly the long hive in this video, and the Paradise hive in the background, you have two entrances, one direct to the brood box, and one direct to the honey supers, above the queen excluder. I wondered what are the advantages of this, and presumably it is only of use when there is a strong nectar flow? I suppose foraging bees can unload more quickly if they go direct into the honey supers? Regards, Chris

Noticed that during inspection of base and you found queen had been in the outer frame. Did not see that she had been in any other frames as you went towards center. What was your thoughts for this?Best; Tom

Just now trying out the long boxes, i went to a single long box. Double looks like trouble, with cross comb, fat comb ect.. I like not all of the lifting. But still need to split em up... kinda dammed if we do, and dammed if we don't, It cost more to make long boxes, but the good thing is don't hurt your back.. Well that a problem working with to many bees. Why need to split em up. another reason to split em up is takes to long to work em... They become angry... and even harder to get em back into the box.. Yes they like big colonies. Just to hard to work em. I get to many i let em swarm back into the wild, but they always come back he hee Cheers thanks for the blog

If you want to avoid the heavy lifting you might want to look into the Layens hive. Never lifting anything other than the deep frames. (Bigger than the langstroth deep frames) A lot of people are getting away from the langstroth for the very reason.
