    To round out the large Philippine indigenous denominations, there's the Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI; the Philippine Independent Church, commonly called the "Aglipayan Church") that broke off from the Philippine Catholic Church; and the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name, Inc. of controversial pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy. Pastor Quiboloy is noted for his claim that he is the "Appointed Son of God" and for his involvement in politics.

    I want to relay some more information regarding some things discussed in this video. Disclaimer: I am no longer associated with this church but I was for a long period of time since I was young. I am only relaying information.
    His teachings are founded from Bible verses and while he can cite them, I can't. I remember the teachings and when there are Bible verses associated with a particular thought but the specific verse I don't remember. For this reason, I'm going to put "(BV)" on phrases that have a bible verse attached to it.
    11:19
    Faith alone saves.
    His teaching regarding this one is founded on two principles: Christ is the arm and word of God (BVs) and God is all-knowing (BV). As said in the video, his teaching is that God is the arm and word of God and that Christ came from God himself, then Christ is also a God therefore, they have the same powers albeit God is more almighty. God the Father can see the heart of man (BV) and Christ as well. God can see is all-knowing, and he knows what can and will happen in the future (BV). So when Christ saw the heart of the thief, he knew that if the thief was spared and was given a longer life to live, he would use that life to commit himself to the teachings of the word of God- which why he was spared.
    13:05
    There are multiple bible verses that he pertains to as proof that speaking tongues is actually the work of the devil to keep christians away from the true church of God.
    14:40
    To add on his view of sexuality and baptism:
    He had a television segment called, "Itanong Mo Kay Soriano" translating to "Ask Soriano". It is a segment wherein he is connected via call to different locales of the church wherein anyone who set an appointment to ask something about life really, he can provide answers backed up by multiple bible verses. (My parent actually tried this which convinced them to join)
    In this segment, I remember that a transwoman asked him if she could still join the church and enter heaven if she does. He alluded to a bible verse saying that anything God cleanses is already cleansed and is absolved. So basically what he said was, since she already transitioned and if she is baptized, God accepts her whole being as how she presented herself. Since God cleansed her, she will be saved provided that she follows the word of God. However, the bible prohibits homosexual acts so basically she still couldn't be herself. (🥴)
    17:05
    There are actually high ranking women within the church as a whole and within locales in the church however, his main teaching is that women can't be church leaders- like the highest leader within the church.
    17:30
    He encourages other people outside the church to go out and seek preachers so they could have a wise judgment on whether or not they should join the church. I remember when I was young, he actually encouraged members to do this too but in later years of his life, he was saying that there is no reason to seek for other teachings if you already found the true one. A principle upheld to this day.
    17:40
    The church actually release information on how many people are baptized after there a scheduled mass baptism. They release this information every time during "Thanksgiving". There is an intricate schedule of church activities a member needs to attend religiously since not attending is alluded as a sin.
    His adept knowledge and brazen behavior in inciting a debate regarding teachings of the Bible is what made him a charismatic preacher. He wasn't like the others- he had a foul mouth and an even more foul temper when he spots what he deems untrue principles or principles that aren't within the Bible. However, the reason for my disassociation is due to certain issues that can be deemed as ALLEGEDLY "cult-ish", "controversial" and "corrupt" among others.

It's part of their doctrine that they have to be "members" of that 1st-century Christian Church founded by Christ. They are sola-scritura and has restorationism view.

    Very interesting; I have a friend in the Philippines I talk to on a daily basis, I will be interested to show him this and see what he thinks. To my mind, these guys are mostly right up my alley. I agree with a lot of their "statement of faith" or whatever, and don't see any serious errors. (Just what I think, everyone is free of course to agree or disagree.)
    I have one suggestion for your videos, friend: can you somehow incorporate the textual content of your thumbnails into the title of your videos? Many times I want to find a video you did, but can only remember the words in big colorful fonts that were in the thumbnail. I have a hard time finding the specific video in the future, because none of the words in the thumbnail that I remember, are indexed by TH-cam; they only use the video titles as searchable metadata.
    I appreciate that you keep it to "just the facts, ma'am" in your videos, and your video thumbnails often veer into clickbait? Like many channels, you may rely on outside help for that kind of thing, and they're designing the thumbnail to generate a lot of traffic... which I totally get. But the tone of your thumbnails is not at all similar to the tone you maintain for the video contents.
    Thanks for the video again.

    • @mercster
      @mercster ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Specific to this video: the thumbnail has in huge font "THE CHURCH OF MASS INDOCTRINATION." Technically this is true, but any reasonable person can understand that this is misleading and fails to give context, thus leading to a more negative evaluation to someone who does not watch the video. This church seems to have reappropriated the term and used it in a very literal positive sense, that being the indoctrination (to teach a doctrine) of the masses (as many people as possible.)
      But anyone who is honest will know that "mass indoctrination" will be taken as a slur to any english speaker ;-) So I think the thumbnail is inappropriate.

      What about the omnipresence of God? "If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there." -Psalm 139:8 Also I am having a hard time understanding how the thief was justified by faith for an hour, but you cant be justified by faith and go to heaven in a week without good works. "But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." -2 Peter 3:8. I am just curious as to where the consistency is. This Filipino pastor says we are saved by works but if we can't do good works than we are saved by faith and I agree which is why I say this- man cannot do good works, all the works we do are by God working through us. Therefore we can't be saved by works because there are no good works for us to be saved by. It is only by Faith we are saved." For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is
      not your own doing;it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." -Ephesians 2:8-10 God bless!

    • @mercster
      @mercster ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @simon blankenship Yeah the "God is not omnipresent" seems wrong. But I don't see this necessarily a salvation issue, do you know what I mean? Let's say you keep God's Word in your heart, you have put faith in Christ, as God who came down to die for our sins. And you get to the "Pearly Gates" (I'm being ridiculous here, only for illustration purposes, I hope you understand ☺ ) and God says "Well, nope you were wrong on the omnipresent thing... have fun in Hell." There are some points of faith that, while sounding entirely wrong or even crazy to us, may not in the end be necessary for living a good Christian life and making it into the kingdom. God bless.

Of course, many churches are dead wrong about a lot of things that ARE essential. But this? Seems more like a bullet point in a statement of faith, confession, or catechism that really has no bearing on our eternity. Hope I've been clear.

      Believers in this case are those who after attending the indoctrination sessions believe and accept the doctrines and are willing to be baptized of their own volition. Those who attended but don't believe won't be baptized as compliance to Christ's teachings according to Him must be voluntary. Undergoing baptism is indeed necessary to those who have already heard Christ's teachings over the indoctrination sessions because it is God calling them to receive Him through His words. @mikesolns1364 my friend, this has been a few months ago. But to be honest with you, I got (and I'm getting) a little confused, haha. I had a talk with some friends of mine (of my own denomination), and they told me I made a mistake here.
      Though I found no misunderstanding, when I thought that if I were to do something, even if no one is looking, God sees and God knows. But I guess that would mean he's all-knowing, and it is not his presence that is in question. I guess it was just the fact that Eli said that God's presence will not be in the bad places, and I believe that to be true.
      But, my friend, I still believe he is omnipresent because in the scriptures, it said that "If two or more are gathered in my name, there I will be in the midst of them." So his presence could be in my church and in yours at the same time that if I call for him, He will be there. And there's no limit as to what place he can be and where his presence may be.
