    Those designs widly used in agriculture the screw "Augar " for moving grains from combines,wagons,and feed bins. the chain bucket system used in grain elvators in the "leg" to move grain up to tubes feeding grain into storage bins

      How it starts? There's nothing special with starting, it's the same as in continuous operation, someone or something has to power it e.g. by turning a crank on one of the wheels. It doesn't operate on its own, no pumps can do so.

    And both of these pumps existed in Nubia, Ethiopia and Somalia ergo Sub-Saharan Africa before Europeans!
