According to Ibn Kathir: ‘Asma was ten years elder to her sister Aisha [Al-Bidayah wan Nihayah (8/371)] Now let us look at age of Asma (ra) when she passed away: According to Ibn Hajr Al-Asqalani: Asma (ra) lived for 100 years and she died in 73 or 74 AH (Taqrib ut Tahdhib) So Asma was 28 when she migrated to Medina. That means Aisha (ra) was 18 when she migrated to Medina. And she shifted to the Prophet’s ﷺ house within a year of two after the Hijrah (migration). There are at least 14 hadiths Sahi that spoke about her age 6/7 yo when she got married and 9yo when he consumed the marriaged. Moslim 1422 , Bukari 5134 In the hadiths we read that she played with dolls and swung on a swing.

Girls were usually betrothed before they reached puberty - majority of the time the marriage would have consummated when the girl reached puberty, and that was usually between the ages of 8, 9 or older,(Note: when a girl reached puberty prior to the 20th century, she was considered to be an adult in most cultures/societies). In this article I will mostly quote Scholarly sources to prove that marriage in ancient Israelite times took place at a very young age, sometimes the girls who were married off were pre-pubescent. DID your mum have sexual intercourse when she was nine, would you be ok with that? If your mum had sex at 9yrs old or if you had daughters would you be ok with them having sex at 9yrs. Please can you explain to be also how you accept, like when Muhammad defeated that jewish tribe and rounded up all the male members of that tribe and any that had reached puberty and I think that was done by if they had pubic hair, he had them all beheaded and that night raped the wife of the chief of that tribe. Ms Rana Not much physically. Women are still gaining height until their mid-teens and our pelvises are still widening until our early 20s. Having an fully-grown adult male, who is going to likely be larger than a teenager, mate with a young teen is not in the girl’s best interest physically. Not to mention the increased potential for abuse due to the increased disparity both between physical size and societal power on many levels.

17 years ago, my husband was 25 years old and his father thought he was too young to marry. If my children want to marry at 18 years old we would be worried of how they will handle family. Personally, if a person were to ask me whether or not the Prophet married a child, I would answer by saying, "you tell me what you think her age was: the books of history show that she was mentally stable to the point that she was abe to do household chores, interact and debate with people at an intelligent level despite them being senior to her, witness battles and help treat the wounded, and was able to do all that without suffering any psychological or emotional setbacks. So now you tell me how old do you think she was?" What I'm saying is that after giving all the evidences proving her maturity as an adult woman, I would ask that person to ask themselves how old they think she was. They'll definitely say that it sounds like she was in fact a fully developed adult, and that way I don't have to give them a free lesson in human anthropology :D

Except that 9-year-olds, even mentally mature ones, are not physically developed enough to safely bear children. Since the age of onset of menstruation has gotten younger over the centuries, it’s very likely that he consummated the marriage (when she was 9) before she even began menstruating, before she developed pubic hair, and possibly before she even had much breast development. Physically, a child, and no where near old enough to safely (on average) make it through a pregnancy and childbirth.

However I still have concerns with child brides being allowed in Islam and that Muhammed who is considered the best role model for humanity married a child for many reasons. - women/girls who are silent are considered as giving their consent - if these women/girls are married off then they need to constantly attend to the sexual needs of their husband even if they don't want to and even if its during when they're riding a camel (marital rape) - There is no family planning and the child/woman must continue to give birth at the risk of losing her own life because healthcare wasn't as advanced back then and even if they were too poor to raise their children (if either they have little income or end up with too many children). Normally most of these children are then sold of to slavery or the weakest are left to die - It is encouraged in the Quran to first verbally admonish, then forsake in bed and then strike against married women/girls who 'show disloyalty or ill-conduct' by their husbands (psychological abuse and domestic violoence). This leads to many women and girls ending up in abusive relationships because men take advantage of this verse. There are many videos like this one here or the one your reference stating that Aisha was taken well care of by Muhammed and never once abused her. And yet there is the hadith from Aisha herself stating that Muhammed stuck her in the chest and caused her pain after he confronted her and realised that she followed him that night. This is without following the paramaters commanded in the Quran. I am aware that historically child marriage was considered normal at the time. But Islam did not completely stop this tradition like it did with burying daughters alive, nor did it at least set parameters to protect women and children from ending up in abusive relationships or even recognise their proper rights to consent for marriage, sex and child labour. Do you have any more information that addresses these specific concerns?

In the same way you can't judge Prophet Muhammad by our standards today. He lived 1500 years ago. In his time, the common culture of the Arabian peninsula and the World at large especially and including Europe was the marriage of young girls. Not only was the Prophet mentioned multiple times in Isaiah (such as the oracle concerning Arabia in Isaiah 21:13-17) but his name was mentioned in Shir Hashirim (Song of Solomon) 5:16 (Machamadim). In fact the entire narrative in that chapter talks about prominent events that happened in his life. Those verses describe exact circumstances that happened in his life when angel Gabriel revealed revelation to him.

Isn't it ironic that only recently people have brought up the marriage of Aisha (RA) as an issue but nobody during the Prophets time used that as an excuse? If they were created with any room for error, they wouldn’t pray or have the need to ask for forgiveness. And you’re right the Quran and Hadith can never change and unlike many Holy Scriptures never did change, but there is a concept of evolving contexts. That is why we have scholars to debate on circumstances today. Many women during the prophets time, even before the prophets time, got married young, and had kids at the age of 12-13, even the mother of Jesus, Maryam. Age difference was not a problem during those times that is why no one sought to attack the prophet with that until the 21st century
PhD Alex Jonson Dude were just gonna go on and on. I’m going to just sum it up here. In Islam, 3 things are required for marriage from a females perspective. Puberty, maturity, and consent. Our mother Aisha (RA) had all 3. And comparing the Earth is flat to this is utter nonsense. If the Quran said the Earth is flat, I would not be a Muslim today. There is scientific justification for that. Quran is the way of life and any ambiguities are to be interpreted through the prophet. The psychosocial maturity of Aisha surpassed that of most 9 year olds in today’s time period as did the mother of Jesus and thousands of other women at the time, who were marrying at much greater age differences than that of the prophet. In no way am I claiming the Quran and the authentic Sunnah to be wrong. Understanding society, women, and marriage at the time of Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, and today are crucial. Similar to how people today view the hijab. Christians will come up to a Muslim woman and claim it’s oppression, backwards, and downright barbaric. However in the meantime, the mother of their Lord wore the exact same thing.

Unfortunately the name you carry is that of a woman who was so bad and disrespectful to the Prophet, that Allah gave the Prophet the option to divorce her and put her in the same class as with the wives of Noah and lot. Sahih Muslim 1479 a 'Umar b. al-Khattab (Allah be pleased with him) reported: When Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) kept himself away from his wives, I entered the mosque, and found people striking the ground with pebblesand saying: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) has divorced his wives, and that was before they were commanded to observe seclusion 'Umar said to himself: I must find this (actual position) today. So I went to 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) and said (to her): Daughter of Abu Bakr, have you gone to the extent of giving trouble to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)? Thereupon she said: Son of Khattab, you have nothing to do with me, and I have nothing to do with you. You should look to your own receptacle. He ('Umar) said: I visited Hafsa daughter of 'Umar, and said to her: Hafsa, the (news) has reached me that you cause Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) trouble. You know that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) does not love you, and had I not been (your father) he would have divorced you. (On hearing this) she wept bitterly. I said to her: Where is Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)? Shesaid: He is in the attic room. I went in and found Rabah, the servant of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), sitting on the thresholds of the window dangling his feet on the hollow wood of the date-palm with the help of which Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) climbed (to the apartment) and came down. I cried: 0 Rabah, seek permission for me from Allah's Messenger (way peace be upon him). Rabah cast a glance at the apartment and then looked toward me but said nothing. I again said: Rabah, seek permission for me from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). Rabah looked towards the apartment and then cast a glance at me, but said nothig. I then raised my voice and said: 0 Rabah, seek permission for me from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). I think that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) is under the impression that I have come for the sake of Hafsa. By Allah, if Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) would command me to strike her neck, I would certainly strike her neck. I raised my voice and he pointed me to climb up (and get into his apartment). I visited Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), and he was lying on a mat. I sat down and he drew up his lower garment over him and he had nothing (else) over him, and that the mat had left its marks on his sides. I looked with my eyes in the store room of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). I found only a handful of barley equal to one sa' and an equal quantity of the leaves of Mimosa Flava placed in the nook of the cell, and a semi-tanned leather bag hanging (in one side), and I was moved to tears (on seeing this extremely austere living of the Holy Piophet), and he said: Ibn Khattab, what wakes you weep? I said: Apostle of Allah, why should I not shed tears? This mat has left its marks on your sides and I do not see in your store room (except these few things) that I have seen; Ceasar and Closroes are leading their lives in plenty whereas you are Allah's Messenger. His chosen one, and that is your store! He said: Ibn Khattab, aren't you satisfied that for us (there should be the prosperity) of the Hereafter, and for them (there should be the prosperity of) this world? I said: Yes. And as I had entered I had seen the signs of anger on his face, and I therefore, said: Messenger of Allah, what trouble do you feel from your wives, and if youhave divorced them, verily Allah is with you, His angels, Gabriel, Mika'il, I and Abu Bakr and the believers are with you. And seldom I talked and (which I uttered on that day) I hoped that Allah would testify to my words that I uttered. And so the verse of option (Ayat al-Takhyir) was revealed. Maybe his Lord, if he divorce you, will give him in your place wives better than you..." (Ixv. 5). And if you back up one another against him, then surely Allah is his Patron, and Gabriel and the righteous believers, and the angels after that are the aidera (lvi. 4). And it was 'A'isha, daughter of Abu Bakr, and Hafsa who had prevailed upon all the wives of Allah's Prophet (way peace be upon him) for (pressing them for mote money). I said: Messenger of Allah, have you divorced them? He said: No. I said: Messenger of Allah, I entered the mosque and found the Muslims playing with pebbles (absorbed in thought) and saying: Allah's Messenger has divorced his wives. Should I get down and inform there that you have not divorced them? He said: Yes, if you so like. And I went on talking to him until I (found) the signs of anger disappeared on his face and (his seriousness was changed to a happy mood and as a result thereof) his face had the natural tranquillity upon it and he laughed and his teeth were the most charming (among the teeth) of all people. Then Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) climbed down and I also climbed down and catching hold of the wood of the palm-tree and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came down (with such ease) as if he was walking on the ground, not touching anything with his hand (to get support). I said: Messenger of Allah, you remained in your apartment for twenty-nine days. He said: (At times) the month consists of twenty-nine days. I stood at the door of the mosque and I called out at the top of my voice: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) has not divorced his wives (and it was on this occasion that this) verse was revealed:" And if any matter pertaining to peace or alarm comes within their ken, they broadcast it; whereas, if they would refer it to the Apostle and those who have been entrusted with authority amongst them, those of them who are engaged in obtaining intelligence would indeed know (what to do with) it" (iv 83). And it was I who understood this matter, and Allah revealed the verse pertaining to option (given to the Prophet (may peace be upon him in regard to the retaining or divorcing of his wives).
“O Prophet, why do you make impermissible that which God made allowed to you, seeking to [simply] please your wives. God is All-Forgiving, All-Merciful. Allah has already ordained for you [Muslims] the dissolution of your oaths. And Allah is your protector, and He is the Knowing, the Wise. And [remember] when the Prophet confided to one of his wives a statement; and when she informed [another] of it and Allah showed it to him, he made known part of it and ignored a part. And when he informed her about it, she said, “Who told you this?” He said, “I was informed by the Knowing, the Acquainted.” If you two [wives] repent to Allah , [it is best], for your hearts have deviated. But if you cooperate against him - then indeed Allah is his protector, and Gabriel and the righteous of the believers and the angels, moreover, are [his] assistants. Perhaps his Lord, if he divorced you [all], would substitute for him wives better than you - submitting [to Allah ], believing, devoutly obedient, repentant, worshipping, and traveling - [ones] previously married and virgins.” [66:1-5][
Allah also in this verse Allah tells the Prophet if you divorce them I will give you wives better than them. So if this is the case how is Aisha this great woman she is made out to be.

My own mother Allah bless her was 16 when she met my father and barely 18, she had her first child, my big sister and then 5 more kids followed over the years. She was protestant n my father muslim. They were together until she died 3 years ago at 51. Oh three weeks to her death she decided to revert to Islam out of her own will. Those days it was normal for girls to even have kids at sixteen. Now you wyd be imprisoned in my country. Age of consent always increases with time.

Aisha r.a is one of the most respected women in her time till now in Islam. We don’t talk abt great women of Islam without including her in the conversation. So dignified was she! If her marriage to the Prophet (pbuh) is so despicable in her lifetime, her reputation would have been reflected as such.

Child marriage is not only a problem with Muslims, but in the USA several states have introduced Age limits between 2017 and 2019. Progress is slow, but happens. This contrasts with Iraq where the government tried to introduce a law lowering the maarriage age to 8 (2017) and yemen where clerics blocked raising the marriage age. Generally speeaking child-marriages are increasing in many Islamic countries. Do you not think that degeneration is partly owing to Muahmmed/Aisha's example?
@@cbcc3029 absolutely not, the example of Mohammad SAW and Aisha RA has as much to do with lowering marriage ages in Muslim countries as the engagement ages of Mary AS at 13 to Joseph AS at 90 years to is to the increasing marriage ages in Christian countries, meaning absolutely nothing. The reason I brought Mary AS and Joseph's example here also had partly to do with making you realize that even though these ages were widely held to be true about them, current researchers hold that there is no proof or basis to those numbers. The same goes for Hazrat Aisha's RA age, where one scholar a long time (ago 200 years after her death) wrote that he heard his father say that she was 6 years old at the time of nikah and 9 years old at consummation, also that particular scholar when narrated these 2 narrations was said to suffer from memory loss during that part of his life by many other scholars. Exactly in the same way, many Muslim researchers today hold that there is no proof of her age at the time of marriage, except for the 2 narrations by a scholar whose memory was doubted by other scholars of his time during later part of his life. Secondly, as it is clear from the above video and you can search in other places as well, lower marriage age has been the norm in asian countries (India, china, arab etc.) since before the time of Mohammad SAW, even if we are to believe that Aisha RA really was 9 at the time of consummation, this marriage was not setting a trend rather following an existing trend in the continent. At that time even european countries and the west had the same age of marriage, that is puberty. A boy and a girl were considered eligible for marriage all over the world at puberty. Today however the west is increasing the legal age of marriage. Not just the age of marriage but even the age of dependency, meaning in many western countries fully grown people are considered CHILDREN until the age of 20. those 20 years olds in a vast majority of cases have become parents of 2 children themselves while still being considered CHILDREN by the state. Now sir, I have a question for you. Do you think that in the western countries, the alarmingly high number of girls 12 to 13 years olds sleeping around with older men, sneaking boys into their bedrooms, teen moms whose children not only become a burden on state financially but a burden on the mother who can not focus on the children who suffer due to the absence of a father and develop psychological problems, the majority of the population of the west being born out of wedlock has something to do with the increasing age limit of marriage (the most fertile time of the human lifecycle they are not allowed to marry, so they find other ways to fulfill their biological urges)? Not to mention the trend marrying late despite whatever the legal limits?

I've always thought it contradictory for anyone to use the Hadiths that mention her age to criticize the prophet but completely ignore the entire rest of the Hadiths that demonstrate her strength and confidence and the Hadiths *from her directly* regarding how she felt back then. Truly a disservice to her and everyone she helped and inspired. This was the one topic that had my faith shaken and this video was the most concise and informative one I could find to dissuade my doubts. I have watched a few other videos that seem very emotionally charged rather than intellectually honest but this video has cleared me of doubt Alhamdulillah. 1. The Prophet married her when she was at least 17-18 years old. Aisha had a sister-Esma who was 10 years older than her. She died in 73 (Hijri calendar) when she was 100 years old. (You can find it in all sources). It means that during hijrat (in 622 AD) she was 27 years old. So, her younger sister was 17 years old. And as the marriage between them took place after hijrat SHE WAS AT LEAST 17 YEARS OLD. 2. Arabs consider age of the women not from the birth of a child, but from the time when they reach puberty. So, in hadith it says that she was 9 years old when they married and it means thet it was 9 years that she reached puberty, NOT THAT SHE WAS 9 YEARS OLD. Aisha was engaged with a man called Jubair who and whose family were idolaters. They rejected her because his family was afraid that she will turn them into Islam. If Aisha was 9 years old in 622, it means that she was born in 613 when Quran has been already revealed. And Quran forbids a muslims to marry non-muslims. So, if Aisha indeed was born in 613 , her father (who was among the first to accept Islam) will never engage her with a non-muslim. So, we came to conclusion that she was born many years earlier. ”And do not marry polytheistic women until they believe. And a believing slave woman is better than a polytheist, even though she might please you. And do not marry polytheistic men [to your women] until they believe. And a believing slave is better than a polytheist, even though he might please you. Those invite [you] to the Fire, but Allah invites to Paradise and to forgiveness, by His permission. And He makes clear His verses to the people that perhaps they may remember” Al-Bakarah-221.
@Syed Rafsan Imam Historians agree that Asmaa’, Aisha’s sister، was at least 27 during Hijra, as referenced by the great historian and biographer ibn-ul Atheer in his book Ussd-ul-Ghaba. Since Asmaa’ was at most 10 years older than her sister (as ibn Abdel Barr said in his book al-Istee’aab fy Ma’rifat il-Asshaab), that puts Aisha at the age of 17 at the time of Hijra, which makes her at least 19 at the time she married the Prophet (pbuh).

If any hadith is not in line with historical facts or other hadiths it leads to questions right? 5 reasons why Aisha was at least 18 years old when she got married to the Prophet Muhammad (pubs): 1-In Bukhari, Kitab-ul-Manaaqib, it is narrated that Aisha said: لم أعقل أبوي قط إلا وهما يدينان الدين ولم يمر علينا يوم إلا يأتينا فيه رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم طرفي النهار بكرة وعشية فلما ابتلي المسلمون خرج أبو بكر مهاجرا قبل الحبشة “I became conscious of the world after my parents had accepted Islam. And every day, the Prophet (pbuh) would visit us twice, earlier and later in the day. After the community went through severe trials (when Islam was publicly pronounced) Abu-Bakr decided to head to Abyssinia (to flee persecution ) When does a child reach the age of consciousness? At least at the age of 5 or 6 right? Aisha was telling her memories, remembering the Prophet’s visits to her house when she was young. The trials of the Muslims started with the public pronouncement of Islam, which happened in the 3rd year of the Prophet’s mission. This precipitated a severe wave of persecution for the Muslims. They had no choice but to flee Mecca in the 5th year of Islam. This indicates that by the 5th year, Aisha was at least 7 or 8 years old. If Hijra took place in the 13th year, then she must have been at least 15 or 16. If she got married to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) over 2 years after Hijra, then she must have been at least 18 when it happened. 2- In Bukhari, Kitab Tafseer-ul-Quran, it is narrated that Aisha (RA) said: لقد أنزل على محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم بمكة وإني لجارية ألعب بل الساعة موعدهم والساعة أدهى وأمر “It was revealed to the Prophet (pbuh) in Mecca, while I was a still playing as a child, the ayah [from surat al-Qamar]: “The last hour is the time when they shall truly meet their fate; and that last hour will be most calamitous, and most bitter”(Quran 54:46). So Aisha was conscious enough to understand the verses of the Quran and remember their meaning. Surat al-Qamar was revealed in the 6th year of the Prophet’s mission as Qurtubi mentioned. Now how old Aisha must have been at the time? At least 8 or 9 I would say. If Hijra took place in the 13th year, then she was at least 15 or 16 at the time, which puts her at the age of 17 or 18 when she got married. 3- Imam Ahmad narrates the circumstances of Aisha’s marriage to the Prophet (pbuh). He says that al-Mut’am b. A’dy proposed to her for his son Jubayr. When the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) approached Abu-Bakr asking for her hand in marriage, he told him that another family already approached him about the same thing and that he had to honor that. Later, Abu Bakr met al-Mut’am and his wife. He sensed hesitate from the mother of Jubayr. She said: “أخشى أن تُصبأ عائشةُ جبيرا” or “I worry Aisha would convert my son Jubayr to Islam". Abu Bakr asked the father about it, and he said that he had a similar concern as his wife. The marriage was called off and Abu Bakr told the Prophet (pbuh) That Aisha was available. How old must she have been in order to have this kind of influence? She must have been a charismatic, eloquent adult for Jubayr’s family to be concerned that she might convert their son to Islam. She definitely was not a child. 4- Muhammad b. Is’haaq, the great historian and biographer of Islam, and the teacher of ibn-Hishaam and Tabari, created a list of the first people that accepted Islam in his book as-Seera an-Nabawiyyah. He places Aisha at #19. Since the first 20 conversions must have happened in the first year, then Aisha was at least 5 years old to have that kind of consciousness (she was probably older). If she was at least 5 in the first year, then at Hijra she was at least 18 right? Which puts her at the age of 20 when she got married to the Prophet (pbuh) two years later. 5- Historians agree that Asmaa’, Aisha’s sister، was at least 27 during Hijra, as referenced by the great historian and biographer ibn-ul Atheer in his book Ussd-ul-Ghaba. my great grandma married at 10 and got 14 children, my grandma also married at 10 and got 9 children, i looked up their pictures, back then they really look like grown up lady compare to kids nowadays. At 6 they master all chores, learning herbs and very well handle with animals, while kids nowadays only know smartphone games. How different our lifestyle is.

Yes there is Hadith in Bukhari that Aish’a age was six when she married then her marriage was consummated at 9. What a horrible thing to say about the prophet. So I did some research concluded her age was between 18-22 based on the following:- 1) Most if not all the people who reported this took it from one source, Hisham ibn Orwat Ibn Al Zbeir Ibn Al Awwam who was born after Aisha passed away. Hisham is a trust worthy source in general. But get this, he lived in Madina for 71 years, never said anything about Aisha’s age then moved to Iraq in the last 10 years of his life where he suddenly narrated this. It was mentioned that his memory and mind was weaken with age to the point that biggest scholars of Islam like Malik ibn Anas refused to take anything he said after leaving to Iraq. He mixed the dates of Hijra ( when prophet migrated to Madina) and Bi’tha ( first revelation) 2) There are sources In Bukhari and other books saying Asma’ the older sister of Aisha was bigger than her by 10 years and Asma’ was born in the 27 years before Hijra which is 14 years before First revelation which means Aisha was 4 at that time and since the prophet married her 2 years from Hijra that puts her age to 19. 3) There is Quranic text that mandates physical and mental maturity for marriage. In fact Islam is the only religion that has this (quran 4:6) “Test the orphans until they reach the age of marriage, and then if you find them mature of mind hand over to them their property” Some ignorant opinions say Surat Altalaq (divorse) 65:4 that states if absolutely men need to divorce women they need to wait till they give birth if pregnant, or three months if they have no menstruation such as due to menopause or medical condition ( amenorrhea) and that’s to ensure they won’t be divorced while being pregnant. These ignorant people say no menstruation here include young children. How sick is this? A verse that is so feminist and all about women rights to be changed to include not only children abuse but also divorcing them. Crazy. 4) There are many contradictions that will stem from the assumption that Aisha age was six at marriage including taking her to war when she was 7 (Badr Gaswa) and when she was 8 (Ohod Gazwa). Of corse she was at least 20 years when she went to war with the prophet perhaps to render medical help. 5) Finally let’s not pretend that young girls don’t marry around the world. According to wikipedia as of today Massachusetts allows girls as young as 12 to get married, Utah 14 and Mississippi 15.

In my opinion the problem isn’t about aisha raa necessarily, the problem is that child brides in the middle east is far away from this story, when a girl is wed off she is cut off from her family, abused and crushed mentally, and what’s infuriating is that the Muslim imams and men in general they rarely speak about these issues and how to prevent/ handel them, they rarely defend women against misogynists who say women are dumb and only good for sex they shouldn’t have dreams aspirations or goals, even though aisha is prescribed as this strong opinionated educated women muslim girls are advised to be against that, to be silent, complimet and to endure injustice.

My critique of Aisha's age has nothing to do with colonialism or bigotry. My issue is that it centralizes culture over divine decree. If Allah is all knowing and all wise then Allah would know that child marriage is inherently problematic. The same with slavery. All notions of "it was normal at the time" doesn't address the core moral questions it raises. Finally claiming that human biology was dramatically different 1400 years ago is not proof that it was different. Today we know that the human brain doesn't fully develop until we're in our 20s. We would need to see hard scientific evidence that brains fully developed by the age of puberty back then.

But the Bible verses in Genesis will clearly tell us that Rebecca was not 3 years old during marriage. FACTS from Bible: In Genesis 22:23, Rebecca was born. In the same chapter, Genesis 22.5, Isaac was described as a lad (teenager), “And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the LAD will go yonder; and we will worship, and come again to you. And Abraham took the wood of the burnt-offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son”. The term “lad” implies that Isaac was still a teenager or a young man around the time when Rebecca was born. Then, in Genesis 25:20, Isaac was 40 years old and married Rebecca. So now, how can Rebecca be just 3 years old in Genesis 25:20 when Isaac was 40 because when Rebecca was born in Genesis 22:23, Isaac was still a lad at that time? Assuming the lad Isaac was 21 years old when Rebecca was born and he married at 40, then Rebecca age during marriage was (40 years less 21 years) = 19 years old. Not 3!

5 reasons why Aisha was at least 18 years old when she got married to the Prophet Muhammad (pubs): 1- In Bukhari, Kitab-ul-Manaaqib, it is narrated that Aisha said: لم أعقل أبوي قط إلا وهما يدينان الدين ولم يمر علينا يوم إلا يأتينا فيه رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم طرفي النهار بكرة وعشية فلما ابتلي المسلمون خرج أبو بكر مهاجرا قبل الحبشة “I became conscious of the world after my parents had accepted Islam. And every day, the Prophet (pbuh) would visit us twice, earlier and later in the day. After the community went through severe trials (when Islam was publicly pronounced) Abu-Bakr decided to head to Abyssinia (to flee persecution ) When does a child reach the age of consciousness? At least at the age of 5 or 6 right? Aisha was telling her memories, remembering the Prophet’s visits to her house when she was young. The trials of the Muslims started with the public pronouncement of Islam, which happened in the 3rd year of the Prophet’s mission. This precipitated a severe wave of persecution for the Muslims. They had no choice but to flee Mecca in the 5th year of Islam. This indicates that by the 5th year, Aisha was at least 7 or 8 years old. If Hijra took place in the 13th year, then she must have been at least 15 or 16. If she got married to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) over 2 years after Hijra, then she must have been at least 18 when it happened. 2- In Bukhari, Kitab Tafseer-ul-Quran, it is narrated that Aisha (RA) said: لقد أنزل على محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم بمكة وإني لجارية ألعب بل الساعة موعدهم والساعة أدهى وأمر “It was revealed to the Prophet (pbuh) in Mecca, while I was a still playing as a child, the ayah [from surat al-Qamar]: “The last hour is the time when they shall truly meet their fate; and that last hour will be most calamitous, and most bitter”(Quran 54:46). So Aisha was conscious enough to understand the verses of the Quran and remember their meaning. Surat al-Qamar was revealed in the 6th year of the Prophet’s mission as Qurtubi mentioned. Now how old Aisha must have been at the time? At least 8 or 9 I would say. If Hijra took place in the 13th year, then she was at least 15 or 16 at the time, which puts her at the age of 17 or 18 when she got married. 3- Imam Ahmad narrates the circumstances of Aisha’s marriage to the Prophet (pbuh). He says that al-Mut’am b. A’dy proposed to her for his son Jubayr. When the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) approached Abu-Bakr asking for her hand in marriage, he told him that another family already approached him about the same thing and that he had to honor that. Later, Abu Bakr met al-Mut’am and his wife. He sensed hesitate from the mother of Jubayr. She said: “أخشى أن تُصبأ عائشةُ جبيرا” or “I worry Aisha would convert my son Jubayr to Islam". Abu Bakr asked the father about it, and he said that he had a similar concern as his wife. The marriage was called off and Abu Bakr told the Prophet (pbuh) That Aisha was available. How old must she have been in order to have this kind of influence? She must have been a charismatic, eloquent adult for Jubayr’s family to be concerned that she might convert their son to Islam. She definitely was not a child. 4- Muhammad b. Is’haaq, the great historian and biographer of Islam, and the teacher of ibn-Hishaam and Tabari, created a list of the first people that accepted Islam in his book as-Seera an-Nabawiyyah. He places Aisha at #19. Since the first 20 conversions must have happened in the first year, then Aisha was at least 5 years old to have that kind of consciousness (she was probably older). If she was at least 5 in the first year, then at Hijra she was at least 18 right? Which puts her at the age of 20 when she got married to the Prophet (pbuh) two years later. 5- Historians agree that Asmaa’, Aisha’s sister، was at least 27 during Hijra, as referenced by the great historian and biographer ibn-ul Atheer in his book Ussd-ul-Ghaba. Since Asmaa’ was at most 10 years older than her sister (as ibn Abdel Barr said in his book al-Istee’aab fy Ma’rifat il-Asshaab), that puts Aisha at the age of 17 at the time of Hijra, which makes her at least 19 at the time she married the Prophet (pbuh). @/micdrop

The times I have come across Historians using marriage ages in the past they used mean age of first marriage not some legal age at which contracts were allowed. Those studies all showed mean marriage ages in the twenties in the West. So his facts are wrong and his extrapolation to the past is wrong, He also neglects to mention that the Romans had a Marrriage age of 12 for women and Muhammed would not have been allowed to marry Aisha at 6 or 9 if they had lived under Roman rule.. If the incidence of child marriage at the age of 9 was high in Arabia, the mortality rates for mothers and babies would be through the roof.

So Asma was 28 when she migrated to Medina. That means Aisha (ra) was 18 when she migrated to Medina. And she shifted to the Prophet’s ﷺ house within a year of two after the Hijrah (migration). That proves that Aisha (ra) was between 19-21 when she consummated her marriage with the Prophet ﷺ

Ayesha's age is a non-issue--except to haters of Islam. She was a remarkable person, and the Prophet (PBUH) was not just any ordinary human.

@F S In Biblical times people were married at a very young age. Girls were usually betrothed before they reached puberty - majority of the time the marriage would have consummated when the girl reached puberty, and that was usually between the ages of 8, 9 or older,(Note: when a girl reached puberty prior to the 20th century, she was considered to be an adult in most cultures/societies). In this article I will mostly quote Scholarly sources to prove that marriage in ancient Israelite times took place at a very young age, sometimes the girls who were married off were pre-pubescent. There was no law against a pre-pubescent girl being married off. Actually as you will read further, you will come to realise that the Mishnah gave approval for a Man to have intercourse to a betrothed girl, any-time after the age of three years old.

According to this Account, Rebecca was a very notable Girl at three years of age. But that a girl of three Years old is fit for marriage, is maintained very plainly in the Jewish writings; particularly, in Emek Hamelech, in the following passage, ‘our blessed sags, of blessed memory, say, that a female is not fit for marriage, ‘till she is arrived at the Age of three years and one day.’

Ms Rana Not much physically. Women are still gaining height until their mid-teens and our pelvises are still widening until our early 20s. Having an fully-grown adult male, who is going to likely be larger than a teenager, mate with a young teen is not in the girl’s best interest physically. Not to mention the increased potential for abuse due to the increased disparity both between physical size and societal power on many levels.

Personally, if a person were to ask me whether or not the Prophet married a child, I would answer by saying, "you tell me what you think her age was: the books of history show that she was mentally stable to the point that she was abe to do household chores, interact and debate with people at an intelligent level despite them being senior to her, witness battles and help treat the wounded, and was able to do all that without suffering any psychological or emotional setbacks. So now you tell me how old do you think she was?"
What I'm saying is that after giving all the evidences proving her maturity as an adult woman, I would ask that person to ask themselves how old they think she was. They'll definitely say that it sounds like she was in fact a fully developed adult, and that way I don't have to give them a free lesson in human anthropology :D
Well, the Prophet had to wait for some three years before the marriage was consummated. He did marry Aisha before the onset of her puberty.

Except that 9-year-olds, even mentally mature ones, are not physically developed enough to safely bear children. Since the age of onset of menstruation has gotten younger over the centuries, it’s very likely that he consummated the marriage (when she was 9) before she even began menstruating, before she developed pubic hair, and possibly before she even had much breast development. Physically, a child, and no where near old enough to safely (on average) make it through a pregnancy and childbirth.

@@13dr9 Thank you for sharing the video. It was informative and cleared that Muhammed was not a pedophile. However I still have concerns with child brides being allowed in Islam and that Muhammed who is considered the best role model for humanity married a child for many reasons.
- women/girls who are silent are considered as giving their consent
- if these women/girls are married off then they need to constantly attend to the sexual needs of their husband even if they don't want to and even if its during when they're riding a camel (marital rape)
- There is no family planning and the child/woman must continue to give birth at the risk of losing her own life because healthcare wasn't as advanced back then and even if they were too poor to raise their children (if either they have little income or end up with too many children). Normally most of these children are then sold of to slavery or the weakest are left to die
- It is encouraged in the Quran to first verbally admonish, then forsake in bed and then strike against married women/girls who 'show disloyalty or ill-conduct' by their husbands (psychological abuse and domestic violoence). This leads to many women and girls ending up in abusive relationships because men take advantage of this verse. There are many videos like this one here or the one your reference stating that Aisha was taken well care of by Muhammed and never once abused her. And yet there is the hadith from Aisha herself stating that Muhammed stuck her in the chest and caused her pain after he confronted her and realised that she followed him that night. This is without following the paramaters commanded in the Quran.
I am aware that historically child marriage was considered normal at the time. But Islam did not completely stop this tradition like it did with burying daughters alive, nor did it at least set parameters to protect women and children from ending up in abusive relationships or even recognise their proper rights to consent for marriage, sex and child labour.

The only mode of transport was the donkey so he rode the donkey however ridiculous it may seem to us in our age. You can't judge Jesus by our standards today. In the same way you can't judge Prophet Muhammad by our standards today. He lived 1500 years ago. In his time, the common culture of the Arabian peninsula and the World at large especially and including Europe was the marriage of young girls. That was the old World culture which some people still practice today even in America. It was as socially acceptable in those days as slavery was and many other things which we condemn today as socially unacceptable.

Not only was the Prophet mentioned multiple times in Isaiah (such as the oracle concerning Arabia in Isaiah 21:13-17) but his name was mentioned in Shir Hashirim (Song of Solomon) 5:16 (Machamadim). In fact the entire narrative in that chapter talks about prominent events that happened in his life. Those verses describe exact circumstances that happened in his life when angel Gabriel revealed revelation to him.

If they were created with any room for error, they wouldn’t pray or have the need to ask for forgiveness. And you’re right the Quran and Hadith can never change and unlike many Holy Scriptures never did change, but there is a concept of evolving contexts. That is why we have scholars to debate on circumstances today. Many women during the prophets time, even before the prophets time, got married young, and had kids at the age of 12-13, even the mother of Jesus, Maryam. Age difference was not a problem during those times that is why no one sought to attack the prophet with that until the 21st century

PhD Alex Jonson Dude were just gonna go on and on. I’m going to just sum it up here. In Islam, 3 things are required for marriage from a females perspective. Puberty, maturity, and consent. Our mother Aisha (RA) had all 3. And comparing the Earth is flat to this is utter nonsense. If the Quran said the Earth is flat, I would not be a Muslim today. There is scientific justification for that. Quran is the way of life and any ambiguities are to be interpreted through the prophet. The psychosocial maturity of Aisha surpassed that of most 9 year olds in today’s time period as did the mother of Jesus and thousands of other women at the time, who were marrying at much greater age differences than that of the prophet. In no way am I claiming the Quran and the authentic Sunnah to be wrong. Understanding society, women, and marriage at the time of Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, and today are crucial. Similar to how people today view the hijab. Christians will come up to a Muslim woman and claim it’s oppression, backwards, and downright barbaric. However in the meantime, the mother of their Lord wore the exact same thing.

So I went to 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) and said (to her): Daughter of Abu Bakr, have you gone to the extent of giving trouble to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)? Thereupon she said: Son of Khattab, you have nothing to do with me, and I have nothing to do with you. You should look to your own receptacle. He ('Umar) said: I visited Hafsa daughter of 'Umar, and said to her: Hafsa, the (news) has reached me that you cause Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) trouble. You know that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) does not love you, and had I not been (your father) he would have divorced you. (On hearing this) she wept bitterly. I said to her: Where is Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)? Shesaid: He is in the attic room. I went in and found Rabah, the servant of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), sitting on the thresholds of the window dangling his feet on the hollow wood of the date-palm with the help of which Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) climbed (to the apartment) and came down. I cried: 0 Rabah, seek permission for me from Allah's Messenger (way peace be upon him). Rabah cast a glance at the apartment and then looked toward me but said nothing. I again said: Rabah, seek permission for me from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). Rabah looked towards the apartment and then cast a glance at me, but said nothig. I then raised my voice and said: 0 Rabah, seek permission for me from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). I think that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) is under the impression that I have come for the sake of Hafsa. By Allah, if Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) would command me to strike her neck, I would certainly strike her neck. I raised my voice and he pointed me to climb up (and get into his apartment). I visited Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), and he was lying on a mat. I sat down and he drew up his lower garment over him and he had nothing (else) over him, and that the mat had left its marks on his sides. I looked with my eyes in the store room of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). I found only a handful of barley equal to one sa' and an equal quantity of the leaves of Mimosa Flava placed in the nook of the cell, and a semi-tanned leather bag hanging (in one side), and I was moved to tears (on seeing this extremely austere living of the Holy Piophet), and he said: Ibn Khattab, what wakes you weep? I said: Apostle of Allah, why should I not shed tears? This mat has left its marks on your sides and I do not see in your store room (except these few things) that I have seen; Ceasar and Closroes are leading their lives in plenty whereas you are Allah's Messenger. His chosen one, and that is your store! He said: Ibn Khattab, aren't you satisfied that for us (there should be the prosperity) of the Hereafter, and for them (there should be the prosperity of) this world? I said: Yes. And as I had entered I had seen the signs of anger on his face, and I therefore, said: Messenger of Allah, what trouble do you feel from your wives, and if youhave divorced them, verily Allah is with you, His angels, Gabriel, Mika'il, I and Abu Bakr and the believers are with you. And seldom I talked and (which I uttered on that day) I hoped that Allah would testify to my words that I uttered. And so the verse of option (Ayat al-Takhyir) was revealed. Maybe his Lord, if he divorce you, will give him in your place wives better than you..." (Ixv. 5). And if you back up one another against him, then surely Allah is his Patron, and Gabriel and the righteous believers, and the angels after that are the aidera (lvi. 4). And it was 'A'isha, daughter of Abu Bakr, and Hafsa who had prevailed upon all the wives of Allah's Prophet (way peace be upon him) for (pressing them for mote money). I said: Messenger of Allah, have you divorced them? He said: No. I said: Messenger of Allah, I entered the mosque and found the Muslims playing with pebbles (absorbed in thought) and saying: Allah's Messenger has divorced his wives. Should I get down and inform there that you have not divorced them? He said: Yes, if you so like. And I went on talking to him until I (found) the signs of anger disappeared on his face and (his seriousness was changed to a happy mood and as a result thereof) his face had the natural tranquillity upon it and he laughed and his teeth were the most charming (among the teeth) of all people. Then Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) climbed down and I also climbed down and catching hold of the wood of the palm-tree and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came down (with such ease) as if he was walking on the ground, not touching anything with his hand (to get support). I said: Messenger of Allah, you remained in your apartment for twenty-nine days. He said: (At times) the month consists of twenty-nine days. I stood at the door of the mosque and I called out at the top of my voice: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) has not divorced his wives (and it was on this occasion that this) verse was revealed:" And if any matter pertaining to peace or alarm comes within their ken, they broadcast it; whereas, if they would refer it to the Apostle and those who have been entrusted with authority amongst them, those of them who are engaged in obtaining intelligence would indeed know (what to do with) it" (iv 83). And it was I who understood this matter, and Allah revealed the verse pertaining to option (given to the Prophet (may peace be upon him in regard to the retaining or divorcing of his wives).
“O Prophet, why do you make impermissible that which God made allowed to you, seeking to [simply] please your wives. God is All-Forgiving, All-Merciful. Allah has already ordained for you [Muslims] the dissolution of your oaths. And Allah is your protector, and He is the Knowing, the Wise. And [remember] when the Prophet confided to one of his wives a statement; and when she informed [another] of it and Allah showed it to him, he made known part of it and ignored a part. And when he informed her about it, she said, “Who told you this?” He said, “I was informed by the Knowing, the Acquainted.” If you two [wives] repent to Allah , [it is best], for your hearts have deviated. But if you cooperate against him - then indeed Allah is his protector, and Gabriel and the righteous of the believers and the angels, moreover, are [his] assistants. Perhaps his Lord, if he divorced you [all], would substitute for him wives better than you - submitting [to Allah ], believing, devoutly obedient, repentant, worshipping, and traveling - [ones] previously married and virgins.” [66:1-5][
Allah also in this verse Allah tells the Prophet if you divorce them I will give you wives better than them. So if this is the case how is Aisha this great woman she is made out to be.

Now you wyd be imprisoned in my country. Age of consent always increases with time.

Child marriage is not only a problem with Muslims, but in the USA several states have introduced Age limits between 2017 and 2019. Progress is slow, but happens.
This contrasts with Iraq where the government tried to introduce a law lowering the maarriage age to 8 (2017) and yemen where clerics blocked raising the marriage age.
Generally speeaking child-marriages are increasing in many Islamic countries.

@@cbcc3029 absolutely not, the example of Mohammad SAW and Aisha RA has as much to do with lowering marriage ages in Muslim countries as the engagement ages of Mary AS at 13 to Joseph AS at 90 years to is to the increasing marriage ages in Christian countries, meaning absolutely nothing. The reason I brought Mary AS and Joseph's example here also had partly to do with making you realize that even though these ages were widely held to be true about them, current researchers hold that there is no proof or basis to those numbers. The same goes for Hazrat Aisha's RA age, where one scholar a long time (ago 200 years after her death) wrote that he heard his father say that she was 6 years old at the time of nikah and 9 years old at consummation, also that particular scholar when narrated these 2 narrations was said to suffer from memory loss during that part of his life by many other scholars. Exactly in the same way, many Muslim researchers today hold that there is no proof of her age at the time of marriage, except for the 2 narrations by a scholar whose memory was doubted by other scholars of his time during later part of his life.
Secondly, as it is clear from the above video and you can search in other places as well, lower marriage age has been the norm in asian countries (India, china, arab etc.) since before the time of Mohammad SAW, even if we are to believe that Aisha RA really was 9 at the time of consummation, this marriage was not setting a trend rather following an existing trend in the continent. At that time even european countries and the west had the same age of marriage, that is puberty. A boy and a girl were considered eligible for marriage all over the world at puberty. Today however the west is increasing the legal age of marriage. Not just the age of marriage but even the age of dependency, meaning in many western countries fully grown people are considered CHILDREN until the age of 20. those 20 years olds in a vast majority of cases have become parents of 2 children themselves while still being considered CHILDREN by the state.
Now sir, I have a question for you. Do you think that in the western countries, the alarmingly high number of girls 12 to 13 years olds sleeping around with older men, sneaking boys into their bedrooms, teen moms whose children not only become a burden on state financially but a burden on the mother who can not focus on the children who suffer due to the absence of a father and develop psychological problems, the majority of the population of the west being born out of wedlock has something to do with the increasing age limit of marriage (the most fertile time of the human lifecycle they are not allowed to marry, so they find other ways to fulfill their biological urges)? Not to mention the trend marrying late despite whatever the legal limits?

I've always thought it contradictory for anyone to use the Hadiths that mention her age to criticize the prophet but completely ignore the entire rest of the Hadiths that demonstrate her strength and confidence and the Hadiths *from her directly* regarding how she felt back then. This was the one topic that had my faith shaken and this video was the most concise and informative one I could find to dissuade my doubts. 1. The Prophet married her when she was at least 17-18 years old. Aisha had a sister-Esma who was 10 years older than her. She died in 73 (Hijri calendar) when she was 100 years old. (You can find it in all sources). It means that during hijrat (in 622 AD) she was 27 years old. So, her younger sister was 17 years old. And as the marriage between them took place after hijrat SHE WAS AT LEAST 17 YEARS OLD.
2. Arabs consider age of the women not from the birth of a child, but from the time when they reach puberty. So, in hadith it says that she was 9 years old when they married and it means thet it was 9 years that she reached puberty, NOT THAT SHE WAS 9 YEARS OLD.
Aisha was engaged with a man called Jubair who and whose family were idolaters. They rejected her because his family was afraid that she will turn them into Islam. If Aisha was 9 years old in 622, it means that she was born in 613 when Quran has been already revealed. And Quran forbids a muslims to marry non-muslims. So, if Aisha indeed was born in 613 , her father (who was among the first to accept Islam) will never engage her with a non-muslim. So, we came to conclusion that she was born many years earlier.
”And do not marry polytheistic women until they believe. And a believing slave woman is better than a polytheist, even though she might please you. And do not marry polytheistic men [to your women] until they believe. And a believing slave is better than a polytheist, even though he might please you. 5 reasons why Aisha was at least 18 years old when she got married to the Prophet Muhammad (pubs):
1-In Bukhari, Kitab-ul-Manaaqib, it is narrated that Aisha said: لم أعقل أبوي قط إلا وهما يدينان الدين ولم يمر علينا يوم إلا يأتينا فيه رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم طرفي النهار بكرة وعشية فلما ابتلي المسلمون خرج أبو بكر مهاجرا قبل الحبشة “I became conscious of the world after my parents had accepted Islam. And every day, the Prophet (pbuh) would visit us twice, earlier and later in the day. After the community went through severe trials (when Islam was publicly pronounced) Abu-Bakr decided to head to Abyssinia (to flee persecution ) When does a child reach the age of consciousness? At least at the age of 5 or 6 right? Aisha was telling her memories, remembering the Prophet’s visits to her house when she was young. The trials of the Muslims started with the public pronouncement of Islam, which happened in the 3rd year of the Prophet’s mission. This precipitated a severe wave of persecution for the Muslims. They had no choice but to flee Mecca in the 5th year of Islam. This indicates that by the 5th year, Aisha was at least 7 or 8 years old. If Hijra took place in the 13th year, then she must have been at least 15 or 16. If she got married to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) over 2 years after Hijra, then she must have been at least 18 when it happened.
2- In Bukhari, Kitab Tafseer-ul-Quran, it is narrated that Aisha (RA) said: لقد أنزل على محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم بمكة وإني لجارية ألعب بل الساعة موعدهم والساعة أدهى وأمر “It was revealed to the Prophet (pbuh) in Mecca, while I was a still playing as a child, the ayah [from surat al-Qamar]: “The last hour is the time when they shall truly meet their fate; and that last hour will be most calamitous, and most bitter”(Quran 54:46). So Aisha was conscious enough to understand the verses of the Quran and remember their meaning. Surat al-Qamar was revealed in the 6th year of the Prophet’s mission as Qurtubi mentioned. Now how old Aisha must have been at the time? At least 8 or 9 I would say. If Hijra took place in the 13th year, then she was at least 15 or 16 at the time, which puts her at the age of 17 or 18 when she got married.
3- Imam Ahmad narrates the circumstances of Aisha’s marriage to the Prophet (pbuh). He says that al-Mut’am b. A’dy proposed to her for his son Jubayr. When the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) approached Abu-Bakr asking for her hand in marriage, he told him that another family already approached him about the same thing and that he had to honor that. Later, Abu Bakr met al-Mut’am and his wife. He sensed hesitate from the mother of Jubayr. She said: “أخشى أن تُصبأ عائشةُ جبيرا” or “I worry Aisha would convert my son Jubayr to Islam". Abu Bakr asked the father about it, and he said that he had a similar concern as his wife. The marriage was called off and Abu Bakr told the Prophet (pbuh) That Aisha was available. How old must she have been in order to have this kind of influence? She must have been a charismatic, eloquent adult for Jubayr’s family to be concerned that she might convert their son to Islam. She definitely was not a child.
4- Muhammad b. Is’haaq, the great historian and biographer of Islam, and the teacher of ibn-Hishaam and Tabari, created a list of the first people that accepted Islam in his book as-Seera an-Nabawiyyah. He places Aisha at #19. Since the first 20 conversions must have happened in the first year, then Aisha was at least 5 years old to have that kind of consciousness (she was probably older). If she was at least 5 in the first year, then at Hijra she was at least 18 right? Which puts her at the age of 20 when she got married to the Prophet (pbuh) two years later.

my great grandma married at 10 and got 14 children, my grandma also married at 10 and got 9 children, i looked up their pictures, back then they really look like grown up lady compare to kids nowadays. At 6 they master all chores, learning herbs and very well handle with animals, while kids nowadays only know smartphone games. How different our lifestyle is.

Yes there is Hadith in Bukhari that Aish’a age was six when she married then her marriage was consummated at 9. What a horrible thing to say about the prophet. So I did some research concluded her age was between 18-22 based on the following:-
1) Most if not all the people who reported this took it from one source, Hisham ibn Orwat Ibn Al Zbeir Ibn Al Awwam who was born after Aisha passed away. Hisham is a trust worthy source in general. But get this, he lived in Madina for 71 years, never said anything about Aisha’s age then moved to Iraq in the last 10 years of his life where he suddenly narrated this. It was mentioned that his memory and mind was weaken with age to the point that biggest scholars of Islam like Malik ibn Anas refused to take anything he said after leaving to Iraq. He mixed the dates of Hijra ( when prophet migrated to Madina) and Bi’tha ( first revelation)
2) There are sources In Bukhari and other books saying Asma’ the older sister of Aisha was bigger than her by 10 years and Asma’ was born in the 27 years before Hijra which is 14 years before First revelation which means Aisha was 4 at that time and since the prophet married her 2 years from Hijra that puts her age to 19.
3) There is Quranic text that mandates physical and mental maturity for marriage. In fact Islam is the only religion that has this
(quran 4:6) “Test the orphans until they reach the age of marriage, and then if you find them mature of mind hand over to them their property” Some ignorant opinions say Surat Altalaq (divorse) 65:4 that states if absolutely men need to divorce women they need to wait till they give birth if pregnant, or three months if they have no menstruation such as due to menopause or medical condition ( amenorrhea) and that’s to ensure they won’t be divorced while being pregnant. These ignorant people say no menstruation here include young children. How sick is this? A verse that is so feminist and all about women rights to be changed to include not only children abuse but also divorcing them. Crazy.
4) There are many contradictions that will stem from the assumption that Aisha age was six at marriage including taking her to war when she was 7 (Badr Gaswa) and when she was 8 (Ohod Gazwa). Of corse she was at least 20 years when she went to war with the prophet perhaps to render medical help.
5) Finally let’s not pretend that young girls don’t marry around the world. According to wikipedia as of today Massachusetts allows girls as young as 12 to get married, Utah 14 and Mississippi 15.
Her age is mentioned in more than just one hadith. God bless you
1. al-Bukhari said the marriage was consummated when she was 9 (as you know, but you didn't mention that the Bukhari also emphasized that Aisha was still playing with dolls at the time)
2. Al-Tabari also says she was 9 when the marriage was consummated
3. ibn Ishaq / ibn Hisham also says she was 9-10 years old

This was normal in those times. There are some girls whose body matures early, especially in the Arabs .. At a time when your grandparents used to put iron clothes that had a lock on his wife's vagina and they treated her as a kind of animal, Muslims used to treat women lightly and follow the words of the Messenger when he said: Be gentle with the bottles (he meant women) as a metaphor for their tenderness and weakness, and he used to say: Your best is your best for his family .. And he said: I recommend you to women well .. He used to compete with his wife in running .. and he used to help her in household work despite his preoccupation with the affairs of the state and so much more.

In my opinion the problem isn’t about aisha raa necessarily, the problem is that child brides in the middle east is far away from this story, when a girl is wed off she is cut off from her family, abused and crushed mentally, and what’s infuriating is that the Muslim imams and men in general they rarely speak about these issues and how to prevent/ handel them, they rarely defend women against misogynists who say women are dumb and only good for sex they shouldn’t have dreams aspirations or goals, even though aisha is prescribed as this strong opinionated educated women muslim girls are advised to be against that, to be silent, complimet and to endure injustice.
And if it were really different back then what children were like at 10 or 12 years old, why were the people who threw stones at the Prophet (saw) also called children when they had the "maturity" to take stones with them Glue thorns and let them dry in the sun?

My critique of Aisha's age has nothing to do with colonialism or bigotry.
My issue is that it centralizes culture over divine decree. If Allah is all knowing and all wise then Allah would know that child marriage is inherently problematic. The same with slavery. All notions of "it was normal at the time" doesn't address the core moral questions it raises.
Finally claiming that human biology was dramatically different 1400 years ago is not proof that it was different. Today we know that the human brain doesn't fully develop until we're in our 20s. We would need to see hard scientific evidence that brains fully developed by the age of puberty back then.
Yes ofcours that's a fair point but you should put in mind that the criteria islam uses for marriage to be normal is not BY AGE because people are different rather the criteria is "if there is no harm physically or psychologically caused to either parties the man or the women than it is fine"

But the Bible verses in Genesis will clearly tell us that Rebecca was not 3 years old during marriage. FACTS from Bible: In Genesis 22:23, Rebecca was born. In the same chapter, Genesis 22.5, Isaac was described as a lad (teenager), “And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the LAD will go yonder; and we will worship, and come again to you. And Abraham took the wood of the burnt-offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son”. The term “lad” implies that Isaac was still a teenager or a young man around the time when Rebecca was born. Then, in Genesis 25:20, Isaac was 40 years old and married Rebecca. So now, how can Rebecca be just 3 years old in Genesis 25:20 when Isaac was 40 because when Rebecca was born in Genesis 22:23, Isaac was still a lad at that time? Assuming the lad Isaac was 21 years old when Rebecca was born and he married at 40, then Rebecca age during marriage was (40 years less 21 years) = 19 years old. Not 3!

People don't accept Islam because Muhammad was an Arab but they forget that Jesus and most of the biblical prophets were very close cousins to the arabs. Muhammad said salaam alaikum, Moses said shalom alekom and Jesus in aramaic said Shlam lekon.
In conclusion, God is One and his religion or message or teachings are One and consistent, the messengers or prophets changed due to time and location. Believe in One God and All the prophets from Adam to Muhammad.

People at that time and place matured at a very young age physically and psychologically and mentally and emotionally. A time where the thing you should think of is how to live another day, not which kind of food is your favorite. 5 reasons why Aisha was at least 18 years old when she got married to the Prophet Muhammad (pubs):
1- In Bukhari, Kitab-ul-Manaaqib, it is narrated that Aisha said:
لم أعقل أبوي قط إلا وهما يدينان الدين ولم يمر علينا يوم إلا يأتينا فيه رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم طرفي النهار بكرة وعشية فلما ابتلي المسلمون خرج أبو بكر مهاجرا قبل الحبشة
“I became conscious of the world after my parents had accepted Islam. And every day, the Prophet (pbuh) would visit us twice, earlier and later in the day. After the community went through severe trials (when Islam was publicly pronounced) Abu-Bakr decided to head to Abyssinia (to flee persecution )
When does a child reach the age of consciousness? At least at the age of 5 or 6 right? Aisha was telling her memories, remembering the Prophet’s visits to her house when she was young. The trials of the Muslims started with the public pronouncement of Islam, which happened in the 3rd year of the Prophet’s mission. This precipitated a severe wave of persecution for the Muslims. They had no choice but to flee Mecca in the 5th year of Islam. This indicates that by the 5th year, Aisha was at least 7 or 8 years old. If Hijra took place in the 13th year, then she must have been at least 15 or 16. If she got married to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) over 2 years after Hijra, then she must have been at least 18 when it happened.
2- In Bukhari, Kitab Tafseer-ul-Quran, it is narrated that Aisha (RA) said:
لقد أنزل على محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم بمكة وإني لجارية ألعب بل الساعة موعدهم والساعة أدهى وأمر
“It was revealed to the Prophet (pbuh) in Mecca, while I was a still playing as a child, the ayah [from surat al-Qamar]: “The last hour is the time when they shall truly meet their fate; and that last hour will be most calamitous, and most bitter”(Quran 54:46).
So Aisha was conscious enough to understand the verses of the Quran and remember their meaning. Surat al-Qamar was revealed in the 6th year of the Prophet’s mission as Qurtubi mentioned. Now how old Aisha must have been at the time? At least 8 or 9 I would say. If Hijra took place in the 13th year, then she was at least 15 or 16 at the time, which puts her at the age of 17 or 18 when she got married.
3- Imam Ahmad narrates the circumstances of Aisha’s marriage to the Prophet (pbuh). He says that al-Mut’am b. A’dy proposed to her for his son Jubayr. When the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) approached Abu-Bakr asking for her hand in marriage, he told him that another family already approached him about the same thing and that he had to honor that. Later, Abu Bakr met al-Mut’am and his wife. He sensed hesitate from the mother of Jubayr. She said: “أخشى أن تُصبأ عائشةُ جبيرا” or “I worry Aisha would convert my son Jubayr to Islam". Abu Bakr asked the father about it, and he said that he had a similar concern as his wife. The marriage was called off and Abu Bakr told the Prophet (pbuh) That Aisha was available.
How old must she have been in order to have this kind of influence? She must have been a charismatic, eloquent adult for Jubayr’s family to be concerned that she might convert their son to Islam. She definitely was not a child.
4- Muhammad b. Is’haaq, the great historian and biographer of Islam, and the teacher of ibn-Hishaam and Tabari, created a list of the first people that accepted Islam in his book as-Seera an-Nabawiyyah. He places Aisha at #19. Since the first 20 conversions must have happened in the first year, then Aisha was at least 5 years old to have that kind of consciousness (she was probably older). If she was at least 5 in the first year, then at Hijra she was at least 18 right? Which puts her at the age of 20 when she got married to the Prophet (pbuh) two years later.
5- Historians agree that Asmaa’, Aisha’s sister، was at least 27 during Hijra, as referenced by the great historian and biographer ibn-ul Atheer in his book Ussd-ul-Ghaba. Since Asmaa’ was at most 10 years older than her sister (as ibn Abdel Barr said in his book al-Istee’aab fy Ma’rifat il-Asshaab), that puts Aisha at the age of 17 at the time of Hijra, which makes her at least 19 at the time she married the Prophet (pbuh).

You can't judge a 9 year old by today's standards to a 9 year old 1400 years ago it just doesn't make sense. At the time Aisha was both physically and mentally mature enough to be considered an adult.Their lives were completely different. 12 year olds back then already had CHILDREN. Heck you can't compare a 9 year old literally 50 years back to a 9 year old of today. Only two generations back it was normal for a 10 year old to get married can you imagine 1400 years ago? Ofcourse not! Life has changed 9 year olds today aren't capable of getting married because they aren't mature both physically and mentally to do so. Today marrying 9 year olds is haram(forbidden) in Islam becuase it will harm them.
The times I have come across Historians using marriage ages in the past they used mean age of first marriage not some legal age at which contracts were allowed.
Those studies all showed mean marriage ages in the twenties in the West. So his facts are wrong and his extrapolation to the past is wrong,
He also neglects to mention that the Romans had a Marrriage age of 12 for women and Muhammed would not have been allowed to marry Aisha at 6 or 9 if they had lived under Roman rule..
If the incidence of child marriage at the age of 9 was high in Arabia, the mortality rates for mothers and babies would be through the roof.
